The wife and I were walking around Japan town on Saturday and I poked my head into one of the…read morestores there looking for a new Gundam kit but there was only one. I asked the owner and he mentioned Tatsu hobby as it wasn't far away. First off, this place is kind of hard to find as it is in a completely nondescript industrial complex and far back from the street. There is no way you would just be driving around and come across this place, you have to be searching for it. Also the layout of the store is weird. You first enter into a small room with a couple of display cases, (nothing you can buy I think), with a small desk and a cash register to the right. There was a small man sitting there having a conversation with a person so I wasn't quite sure what to do. My first thought was, "This is it?" But then I noticed there is another room through a open door in the back, so I proceeded through. This is where the kits actually are. The main room is pretty cramped with a few shelves of kits and a table that 3 people were sitting eating at and having nerdy discussions. I wanted to ask a question but I wasn't sure if they worked there or not. I didn't really see that there was really any sort of organization to the store other than the Gundams pretty much seem to be along the rear of the room and other types of kits are near the front. My biggest gripe is that none of the boxes have a price sticker on them. You have to ask the guy up front. Lame. And the couple of kits I asked about were priced higher than other places I normally buy from like Newtype. I'll just stick with Newtype in Union City from now on. Unfortunately they are only open M-F but they do ship and I usually get my orders in a day or two. I wouldn't bother going to Tatsu again.

We came on a weekday late afternoon and appreciated that they stay true to their business hours. They closed at 7 and we came around 6:30 ish. Eric is super knowledgeable and friendly. We were able to get an etb, booster box and some singles all at reasonable prices! Thank you, PokeVickie! We will definitely coming in a lot more!

From most card shops I've been to, this would be my least favorite. What threw me off was this box…read moreof bulk on the counter, I had asked one of the workers if I could look through it, he said yes. After 30 minutes of looking through the box, I was about to finalize what I wanted, but then a different worker came up to me and said he was still looking through the cards. Out of consideration, I apologized and told him he could quickly look through the cards I was interested in. He then took about 80% of card from my stack for himself. Honestly, it felt extremely scummy and inconsiderate. Taking advantage of my politeness and leaving me with maybe 7 out of the 30 I had originally wanted. I understand that they'd want to look through the bulk before letting their customers to see, but I was told that I was allowed to look through the bulk?? And on top of that, they don't price the cards in their binders and go by tcgplayer pricing, which makes it difficult to determine what cards are worth buying. And their bulk is extremely disorganized. I had asked if they had any vintage pokemon cards and they told me there might be SOME in the 5 bigass boxes of bulk they had laid out. I had asked if they would ever organize the bulk, but they never gave me a clear answer, leaving me a bit peeved. They take the more valuable and prettier cards for themselves. Go to a different card shop that's better organized and fair.

Employees are helpful and knowledgeable even when there's an influx of customers. Trades are done quickly and accurately. Good value on single cards and packs for the most part! Definitely check and do your research to make sure you're getting a good deal. A lot of the employees are better at customer service than a lot of card shops in the Bay Area. Would love to see more Japanese sealed product available too! A variety of different TCGs available along with accessories and merch! They also have a variety of video games along with consoles available for trade and purchase!

I had a pretty frustrating experience at GameTime Hobby Shop. I came in to trade some Pokémon cards…read morefor store credit so I could pick up an F1 Topps hobby box. When I first walked in, the box was clearly marked at $359.99. I went to the counter, and to be fair, the employee was helpful and gave me a reasonable offer of $365 in store credit, which I agreed to. No issues there. But when we walked over to grab the hobby box, the price had suddenly jumped to $510.99. That's a huge difference, and it happened while I was literally in the store. When I pointed it out, I was told they were "updating prices" and that they could only honor the original price if I had taken a picture of it. That's not how you run a business. Changing prices during store hours--especially while a customer is actively making a purchase--is unprofessional and unfair. Expecting customers to take pictures of price tags just in case they change minutes later is ridiculous. I understand prices fluctuate, especially in collectibles, but updates like that should be handled before opening or after closing--not in the middle of a transaction. This experience left a bad impression, and I'd be cautious about doing business here again.
