CA Bakehouse still is popular. There were regulars lining-up at 1pm to order products by the door. Customers still weren't allowed inside the bakery area. One queue was for online orders (recommended by the bakehouse) and the other was manned by an attendant with a tablet and a printed menu. Parking wasn't a hassle this time as there were plenty of spots. Add the fact that we were now familiar with Vietnam Town. We got our usuals with choux (Kaya and Ube), Pandan-Coconut Milk Bread and Banh Bo (honeycomb cake). The mention worthy Guava filled Mochi Cake was so good! A yummy tip that elevates this baked good was when I toasted it (4 minutes) in an airfryer. Both my sis' would grab my favs: durian egg tarts, ube croissant, coconut milk bread and now cookies are also my fav! I can't tell you how much Mama Lam has these baked goods down! Portuguese egg tart: amazing! The perfect hybrid of a Chinese and Portuguese egg tart because it's not too sweet like a Chinese egg tart but still has the amazing flakiness of a Portuguese egg tart. This Vietnamese bakery bakes up unique baked goods that's not typically found at other bakeries. The hours are impractical for a bakery though. Most bakeries are usually the 1st businesses to open everyday, but this bakery is the last to open in this entire Vietnamese strip mall. They open at 12pm 1. Original Green Waffle (3.5/5) The green color is from pandan leaves. The waffles were a bit too thin and soggy/floppy in my opinion. Takes 15-20 minute to make 2. Portuguese Pandan Flavor Egg Tarts (3.5/5) The crust was a bit hard. I prefer the flaky ones. The inside custard part was too thick and gelatin like. It was also lacking the pandan flavor. Because it's supposed to be pandan flavor, it also masks the usual eggy flavor of the traditional egg tarts 3. Choux Pastry (4/5) This is similar to cream puffs, but with a unique twist in that they top the outside shell of the puffs with a layer of almond crunch, which I liked as it gives it additional crunch and texture. My personal favorite was the guava mochi cake! The guava tasted very fresh and sweet. This was delicious! The kaya croissant and Ube+Taro croissant were both filled generously, however the flavor of the filling was too subtle - to the point where I could not really taste the kaya and Ube/taro. Similarly, the egg tarts didn't have much flavor. The filling in the hojicha choux was too strong for us. I am not a big hojicha fan so I didn't enjoy this but if you like the flavor, you would probably like this dessert. I'm glad I finally got to try CA Bakehouse. The desserts looked very aesthetic and the flavor choices were interesting, but the flavors were hit or miss for us (either too strong or barely there). Because we weren't allowed inside, it was difficult to see the offerings, and the menu was just text with no images, making it hard to know exactly what I was ordering. Despite the chaos, the staff was able to pump out my order very quickly, and the pastries were quite delicious.
