I've driven past Preligen so many times thinking I should try it but never made it in. Finally I was passing by during the breakfast hours and decided to stop in. Holy moly, why didn't anyone clue me into this place?! This is a true Parisian patisserie unassumingly on the corner of Meridian and Hamilton in a fairly rundown strip mall. It's a tiny shop with barely any seating, so plan to take your bounty home with you. The butter croissants (the only way to measure) are crisp, flaky heaven. They have a spread of other pastries but it's hard to choose anything different. Dare I say my favorite croissant in the South Bay, and reasonably priced too! Cherry on top is that they serve Chromatic Coffee, and the lattes are excellent. It's a new weekend staple for us. read more

This was my first time here and I was actually down the street getting some breakfast sandwiches at Madys when my aunt texted me asking if I could pick up an iced mocha for her. I looked up the area and I found this place on Yelp! They had really great deals on pastries, considering most places charge six dollars on pastries, so I thought there were a reasonably priced. I also got my aunt an iced mocha and she loved it!! My niece loved the blueberry muffin I got and the chocolate croissant was perfect and crisp with just the right amount of chocolate. I also thought it was really sweet. How this quaint little shop had a bunch of regulars in it!! As I entered, the gentleman behind the register greeted me and another customer came in and he knew that Customer by me. So cute!! They use high-quality coffee beans, Chromatic, although I haven't tried it. I've tried a lot of their pastries, however. They are definitely unique flavors. I have yet to try their croissants, but I plan to try them. Their hours are a little bit odd so make sure you check their website. I think they're closed Monday through Wednesday. It's a huge bummer because sometimes I have Mondays off and I wanted to get a cup of coffee and then I found out they were closed. There is not any place to sit, unfortunately otherwise I would come much more often but that's probably a good thing for my waistline ;) Parking is a little bit tight. Stoped by for the first time. I happened to be picking up an order next door and saw their sign. I was warmly greeted by the owner when I walked in. He explained that they are a small batch bakery. All the pastries, behind the glass, looked amazing and were decorated so beautifully. I decided to get one Lemon-Raspberry Meringue Tart and one Mix Berry Vanilla Creme Tart. Mr. Manaois boxed up my selections and helped me at the register. They also gave many varieties of hot beverages, sweet and savory scones and sweet and savory croissants. There are also a lot of different pastries. This would be a great place to have a small relaxing breakfast. There are several places inside to enjoy your goodies. Both desserts, that I purchased, were so delicious. My favorite was the lemon raspberry meringue tart. To add to my previous review, I have found that they offer a bag of "day-old" pastries for $8, and it's really a bargain! I was going to a party, so I picked up a few bags and laid everything out on a platter. It was a nice mix of sweet and savory, and nothing about it tasted day-old to me! Came here Friday morning with a friend. When you first enter into the store, you see on full display all the pastries and cakes that are available that day behind the glass separator. Everything looked really good and they were already sold out of certain items. The store has minimal decoration, but an open concept, so you can see the pastries being prepared. I ordered a latte and a ham and cheese croissant, which the cashier offered to heat up. You have the option to eat in as there are a few tables inside and outside the store. The latte was pretty standard, but the ham and cheese croissant was pretty flakey and had a generous amount of filling. Service was extremely fast. I got my order within minutes, although we were not there during a rush. However, there was a steady stream of customers coming in while we were there, so I can imagine this place gets packed during the weekend. The store is located in a small plaza with a few other stores, so there's some parking, although it filled up by the time we left. I did a search of almond croissants and this place came up. I had never heard of them and was surprised to learn they have been around for 2 years. They are in the front of the strip mall at Meridian and Hamilton avenues. Unfortunately, they were out of the almond croissants when I got there. Instead, I tried a mini lemon meringue tart and a chocolate hazelnut dome. Usually such artistically designed treats are lacking in flavor, but not these; both were very good. They are a small bakery and I've been here twice. In search of tiramisu, Yelp and Google led me here. The first time I came was October for my mom's birthday. My mom loves tiramisu! I'm so glad I came. I, myself, have not loved tiramisu much, but Preligen changed that for me. So much that I came back yesterday for my stepmom's birthday! It's small inside, but it's a quick in and out situation. I ordered online both times just to reserve the cake. I feel that the price of the dessert is justified as it really is that good. In October, I did their day old grab bag and ended up with a few ham and cheese croissants. I sound like a hater, but I'm not a fan of ham and cheese either, BUT these were DELICIOUS! I popped them in the oven and I couldn't stop eating! This round, I opted to buy their butter croissants and panna cottas. I haven't eaten the panna cottas, but my husband ate two of their croissants in one sitting. It was like an ethereal experience tasting the butter as I took a bite. I could just picture the butter sheets that went into that croissant. Now you're probably wondering why I don't have pictures posted. I. Was. Too. Excited. Both times we dug in too quickly. Just a note: my dad ate a whole slice all by himself and when he does that, you know it's good. My cousin was so full from lunch then said the slice was too big and proceeded to eat the entire slice the fastest I've ever seen her eat anything. I was first introduced to this bakery when a colleague bought a selection of pastries for a nonprofit fundraiser dessert silent auction, which I got to only eat with my eyes. Thanks to Too Good To Go (TGTG), I not only get to finally taste these pastries; I also discovered this french artisan bakery owned by Chef Preligen is a kababayan (fellow countryperson). He is a pastry chef with many years of training and baking sweets at high end Vegas hotels like Bellagio while got his savory baking muscle through SF Baking Institute. My original plan was to pick up my TGTG and leave then the jars of "avocado chocolate & coffee" in the cold case & Chef Preligen tidying up in his chef's coat gave me pause to engage in a chat with him while I window shopped. Learning more of his story and after carefully checking out each items, I bought a savory Rosemary, Sun Dried, Parmesan scone, 3 tropical inspired puddings/mousse, and tiramisu to add to my TGTG bounty. He's had this storefront for one year since Memorial Day 2024. It is on a busy corner of Meridian & Hamilton with a two bistro tables outside if can handle the traffic noise. Fortunately, the property owner landscaped area with thick bushes for a sound and visual buffer. Otherwise, enjoy your beverage and baked goods indoor on the welcoming sofa. I visited in late Sunday morning and there was a comfortable stream of patrons visiting. When I arrived there was someone enjoying their food outdoor. While I was window shopping, a pair came in to order tiramisu. A couple was entering while I was leaving. Sampled the coconut macaroon, savory scone & dairy free tapioca during lunch. The macaroon, the size of an oversized truffle, was satisfying for Dad. I took a nibble, appreciating the moisture, texture, and the not overpowering coconut taste as I don't usually enjoy coconut forward sweets. Scones are another baked item that doesn't rank high on my list. There is only one bakery/cafe in Palo Alto that I will always buy their scones. Now, I can add Preligen's yummy scone recipe to that list. The savory mixture intrigued me, so took a chance to taste test and was super satisfied. It ate like a heavier biscuit, moist without being too crumbly and slight sweetness. I enjoyed with a salad. The mixed fruit in the dairy free tapioca was crisp and fresh, the gelatin layer and tapioca pearls brought out the little girl in me so can play with it in my mouth as I ate it. I didn't miss the dairy in this "dairy-free" dessert. Enjoyed the a slightly warmed berry croissant using toaster oven for dinner dessert. It was crispy on outside with layers and layers of lamination. The lemony cream inside paired very well with the plump, firm & sweet berries. The full size cheesecake, tiramisu, and chocolate entremets prompted me to make a mental note to order in future for a special family gathering. While Chef Preligen always has at least one whole cake in case, he encourages pre-ordering. Will share my discovery with fellow #FilAm #Foodies so can support Chef Preligen. Stopped by Preligen Bakery and was pleasantly surprised! I ordered a cappuccino and an almond croissant, and both were delicious. The almond croissant was especially good, and the staff member was kind enough to heat it up for me, which made it even better. Apparently, the 4th time is the charm. I have tried coming here multiple times but it has not worked out since they close early at 3pm. , I finally made it today, and what a great little spot! They have savory and sweet items. The desserts are French style, so not as sweet as typical American desserts. My first time here on a recommendation from a friend. Chocolate croissant was perfect - soft, flaky, just the right amount of chocolate. I also tried the cinnamon sugar scone which was moist and delicate with a understated flavor. My latte was just right, drinkable and not too hot. Service was wonderful. It's a small store front, so there is just one set of couches and one table, but comfortable and welcoming. I'll be back for sure. I took home the tiramisu, yes, that was perfect as well. New bakery alert! A coworker sent this to me and I stopped by on a Sunday (and hit up the Goodwill across the complex, scored a sweater). This bakery offers classic baked goods (with some fresh flavor combos) as well as some higher end French tarts and dairy based desserts like panna cotta. I ordered: - bacon, cheese, and jalepeno scone: Perfect light and flaky crumb, but the add in flavors weren't coming through as strong as I liked - valerian chocolate coffee tart: fine, decent chocolate and coffee flavors, - chocolate chip cookie: I cannot stop thinking about this. Crispy edges, crumbly center, studded with mini chocolate chips, but the kicker was that it was sweetened with honey or jaggery or coconut sugar or something more sophisticated and alluring than plain ol brown sugar. This flavor has me in a chokehold and I want to eat more. But it is worth coming to! I wish I had time to come back one more time because everything looked amaaaaazing! My go tos are usually a plain croissant and an almond croissant in order to check out how they do theirs. But the woman in front of me ordered a bunch of different pastries and she was a regular because they knew her by name. The owner was working behind the counter and that's a really good sign how much he cares about his products. Lots to choose from! Oh and don't get me started on the refrigerator case! since moving from SF, i've missed having a staple bakery to go to. and since finding this spot, have been returning to try the entire menu. i highly recommend warming up your pastries if you'll be eating on the spot, which they're always kind enough to offer. the butter croissant is flaky and you can see and taste all the layers. the ham and cheese is my personal favorite and is delicious for breakfast. i found the outside to be a bit crunchier(?) than soft, so it is different from other spots i've tried, but i still enjoy the texture. i've always tried the mixed berry and strawberry passionfruit pastries. both are delicious, but different in texture since they are not warmed up. i'd like to try them when they're fresh early in the morning if i ever get the chance read more

FOOD A quaint pastry shop that is known for their pastries and desserts. Very consistent and solid with their baked goods. A few savory pastries but most are sweet. Ham and cheese is not a thin slice of ham, rather a rectangular prism of ham. It's cheesy enough and the flaky croissant encapsulates both. A very solid choice. Chocolate croissant has two small strips of chocolate. I prefer a lot more chocolate but that can get messy. This is a solid choice for the person on the go. The strawberry passion pastry is a must. Don't wait to eat it; just do it when you get it. Truthfully, I wish they were more buttery but Preligen satisfies my croissant/pastry needs. I must mention that the ube desserts are strong recommendations. If you have any Filipino friends who have offered their ube-filled/flavored desserts, these will ring true. The ube panna cotta and the ube cheesecake are must-tries. SERVICE Staff is courteous and friendly. Owner is almost always present and busy. Upon request, they will warm your croissants: usually 3 minutes at 375 degrees in their little oven. AMBIANCE The times I have gone (Weekday AM and weekend PM), it has not been busy. Maybe 1-2 people in front of me but not really packed with people lounging about. However, I have heard that during the Weekend AM times, it can get busy. Limited seating but while I was there, available and simply arranged. Parking lot in front is tricky to get in and out of, especially when Meridian Avenue is busy. Use the back parking lot as it offers an easier and quicker in and out. EDIT: Forgot to mention 10% discount to nurses. This place has hands down the best croissants in the area - crispy from the outside, flaky from the inside, perfect size and price (around $3.5-$5 per croissant as opposed to $6 from Manresa etc) This unassuming little bakery in a strip mall, is packed with flavor and artisan dessert items. Most of the popular items do run out later in the day so be sure to go early. We have liked everything that we have tried so far - sweet and savory croissants, the avocado chocolate coffee jar, the tapioca jar etc. They also have a morning special for coffee and croissant. The service is fast and friendly - and it is mainly a to-go place with only 1-2 small tables for seating (maybe they will change this soon). read more

I have NEVER tasted a croissant like the ones I've had from here EVER. And I've been to France twice!! And if you lined up a bunch of varieties including, plain, chocolate, vegetable, cheese, or meat filled, the bottom of that on my list would be the ham & cheese version. I had a Preligen's Ham & Cheese croissant and it was so deliciously outstanding that I had to have a second one and that was also a first for me. It was as if they were marinated in butter (but of course that doesn't make sense). The cheese in the croissant was a flavor that I had not tasted before. And the ham (which is usually so undesirable to me that if say for example it was on a pizza, I would remove it) was so rich in taste and had an unusual texture. I would rather sausage, bacon, or even pepperoni any day over ham. If the Ham & Cheese Croissants are so unique and stellar in flavor, I cannot wait to try others from their, including and even a plain one. By the way, I called to ask what the secret ingredients were that made their ham & cheese so unusual. Preligen (who is the owner's first name) said that they use Gruyère cheese. I've been wanting to try Preligen for such a long time since I've heard so many good things since it opened! We went later in the day so we knew there wouldnt be much left and ended up getting a lemon tart, fruit tart, another chocolate tart (forget the exact name) and a few butter croissants! Everything was really good! The creme in the fruit tart was perfect and the lemon tart was so airy! I'll have to come back earlier in the morning though for a better selection! The owner was really nice and they were staying open on Christmas morning for cake pickups!
