Kouign-amann is a delicate sweet sugar-crusted croissant type pastry that often is in the shape of a popover. Looks just like a puffy muffin. Craftsman and Wolves is a killer crafts bakery that makes the perfect Kouign-amann. The shop does many things including a signature bread pudding, small in size but big in flava. Measures maybe two and a half inches diameter, an inch thick. Packs a wonderful wowie punch with the seasonally ripe berries and fruit, plus a few pieces of specialty chocolate. My friend who knows from excellent pastries says the goods at C and W are special because the sugars in each item are balanced, not excessive. The goodies we sampled together were scrumptious. Somehow even my pedestrian palate senses that these dessert thingies are distinctive and of ultra quality. Ambiance-wise, it's a noisy place with a few tables lining the windows. You are elbow to elbow practically against neighbouring tables. I know I heard every syllable of the conversation going on to my right-hand side. I also knew it was Korean, so I couldn't successfully eavesdrop... boooooo. Very unique metallic artsy fashioned chairs make the space seem modern. There's merch in the corner and on a wall. You can get coffee drinks too. Service is excellent: the majestically tall staffer -- who I thought was manager but isn't -- was the kindest friendliest soul, very pleasant to chat with. Craftsman crew were mad busy, but always with smiles and ready to help customers. You won't find any bakery bites that are not delectable at Craftsman and Wolves. I've always heard of their SF location but never had a chance to visit. I was pleasantly surprised to find a newer location in Mountain View in a pretty new apartment/retail complex. Small coffee shop sized with maybe seating for a dozen inside and a few small tables outside. I wasn't too familiar with their offerings, but I did know that it was chef driven and dedicated to quality. And in my short peek, I somewhat was able to confirm that. Drip Coffee (4*) Solid, bold and enough smoothness for me to want to savor it. Not as dark and roasty as Peets but good enough for me, especially to go with their delectable pastries. Kouign Amman (5*) I love B Patisserie's version that is flaky but saturated in buttery sugar, that I can only tolerate 1 of those at a time. Very rich and decadent. I have never seen a version quite like Craftmans and Wolves but that is what I found adoring. The exterior almost seems fried like a doughnut/cronut but totally not sure. It kinda had that bubbled exterior but not blatantly obvious. And there was just enough sugar cooked into it that it made it stealthy sweet, I'd say easily half the amount of sugar as B Pâtisserie's. Not that I would eat 2 of these in one sitting, but I easily could. Croissant Pudding (5*) They do these tiny mini bread puddings that can be heated up. We chose it as is, room temp and it was still fantastic. They use croissants as the 'bread' so it isn't as dense as a regular bread pudding. But their custard to bread ratio was masterful and this version (think they change the variations often) has burst of fresh raspberry and chunks of Dulce which is like a caramelized/browned white chocolate made by Valrhona. (I had to look that ingredient up as I never heard until now.) And to take alternate bites between the flaky and unique Kouign Amman and the creamy and slightly dense pudding with sips of quality black coffee, just initiated me an avid fan of Craftsman and Wolves. Cute bakery and cafe! There is some seating inside and some nice relaxing seating outside although it can get a little windy. Their menu has a lot of sandwiches and coffee! I tried the decaf hot mocha and thought it was good! Not super sweet. I got the yuzu sando and thought it was not bad. They had a lot of celery bits in the egg mixture which I wasn't super crazy about but that's fine: I thought the sandwich could have used some salt so I asked for salt and they gave this cute plastic vial with some salt! The salt was a bit reddish and I think it was a little spicy which was interesting! It did make the sando pretty good. My spouse got this funny succulent dessert! It was interesting! Came here on a Sunday morning around 10am and it was quite busy! There's a lot of outdoor seating, some indoor seating, but it was pretty full by the time we got there. We were able to snag a table right as someone was leaving, but we definitely saw people walking around looking for a table. ~the food~ - Fritatta sando ($13.5): Very fluffy bread with an egg frittata + mushrooms inside. Not bad, I really liked the bread as it was very fluffy and had that nice milk flavor, but I think the egg frittata inside was a bit underwhelming. It seems like it was potentially microwaved, but not sure. Not worth the price imo, but not bad! - Black sesame kouign amann ($6): the kouign amann had nice layers, and the caramelized sugar crystals on the outside was super nice! One of the best pastries and desserts I have ever been to! There is a garage in the lower level for customers, which is quite nice and spacious there. You just have to take the stairs up and the restroom is also in the parking building instead of inside the store. The staffs were friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. You can always trust their recommendations if it's your first time. Their Secret of Eden is my favorite. We always have to get this everytime we visit. It has a nice texture and balanced flavors. Not too sweet or plain. Their other cakes and desserts are also great! Haven't have a bad one from here. For the drinks, I like their matcha latte. It was sweet naturally with no added sugar. I ordered a Fauxquito and CRX (croissant) Pudding both warm and for here, and a couple to-go pastries. The cashier and barista were both friendly - welcoming and quickly attentive. The coffee was delicious - coffee flavors came thru and the vanilla and coconut were delicate, not overpowering or overly sweet. The warmed CRX pudding was good. It was a bit more like a French toast. The top was crispy and there were hints of orange. It was good but very sweet and I'd probably only order if sharing (didn't finish it). I really appreciate the ambience. The black and "greige" colors were somewhat soothing and gave "chill vibes". Music selection and volume were great. Over head lighting was well done too. The cakes are a bit on the pricey side, even as compared to other Palo Alto and Mountain View patisseries. I hesitated to try some of the 14-16 mini cakes. By the way, I wanted to knock out a few emails, but arrived with a dead laptop. I didn't see any outlets (which I can respect) so do come powered up. I used to go to the original Craftsman and Wolves in the Mission when I lived closer, so I was happy to see they opened a location in Mountain View. Funny enough, I've passed by San Antonio Street so many times and never noticed it was there. A hidden gem for sure. I stopped in around 1 p.m., which might have been too late because the pastry selection was pretty limited by then. We ended up getting a regular croissant and the avocado toast. The croissant was classic and well done, and the avocado toast was loaded with different ingredients--layers of flavor and texture that made it much more interesting than the standard café version. I also ordered a chai, which tasted good but came out lukewarm. I wish it had been hotter to match the chilly afternoon. Got the harvest sage biscone twice. The first time, the teenaged cashier asked if I would like to pair it with their mushroom gravy. I asked if it's gluten free. They mentioned it's vegetarian. The interior is industrial modern but there's not many seating available inside. Staff there are helpful and friendly when giving recommendations. Overall, nearly 4* but I think there are things that definitely need improvement. Matcha latte: 5/10 I wasn't very impressed, I wished it was a lot stronger. It wasn't bitter but probably due to it being a blend of ceremonial and culinary grade matcha. Muffin: 4/10 Pretty dense and the majority is made up of the crumble instead of the actual muffin. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I've been to the location in SF before and I first found out about the rebel within muffin from the palo alto farmers market on sundays about 2 years back. I was very excited about them opening a location in the pennisula area! I haven't tried too many of their items besides the kougin amann, morning bun, and the rebel within. I tried the regular and the elote rebel within flavors here, both were very yummy! I love how unique the muffin is with the egg in the middle and runny yolk. I also like that it comes with the himalayan salt for you to add to the muffin! Absolutely delicious! Came here on a Friday after visiting the dentist. It was around 1:30 PM. I was surprised to see that they had the Rebel Within at that hour, so I went and decided to get it since it's one of their signature pastries. It was $9.50 so quite pricey for a muffin. I also got a Savory Croissant for $6.50. Decided to also get a dulce de leche latte. The Rebel Within was a bit cold and kind of underwhelming, especially for the price. I didn't realize it came with a small tube of pink salt, but it didn't really need it. Not sure I would get it again.. The Savory Croissant was surprising, mainly because I didn't know there was ham in it! To be honest, I didn't know what to expect. Nonetheless, I'd consider getting this one again. Came by again on a Wednesday around 11am to see if they'd have the rebel within muffin and lion's head stack in stock this time, and they did! Employees were super friendly. They asked if I wanted the pastries warmed up and I'm glad they did and would highly recommend doing so. The rebel within muffin was just alright. A bit overhyped and overpriced in my opinion. Flavor and texture wise it was a bit heavy, dense, and mushy. Came with a tiny tube of the sea salt flakes. The lion's head stack was amazing though! Would get this again and I personally think it's worth giving this bakery a shot just to try this pastry. Stumbled across this place as I was running errands. I had no idea what to expect. The decorations are super minimalistic. There's some seating inside and outside. There is parking under ground but there aren't too many spots. I was drawn into the pastries due to the pretty display. They also sell coffee but I didn't get any -kouign amann: 2.5/5, I like kouign amann when it's formed in a circle because there's more layers of sugar and butter. This one had a square shape on top. It was flaky but I wish it was more caramelized. Compared to other ones I've had, it needed more of the crispy exterior. -triple chocolate croissant: 2.5/5, the croissant itself was good but the chocolate flavor didn't really stand out. I was excited to Craftsman and Wolves opened a location in Mountain View and tried a few of their unique items: the Rebel Within, Lion's Head Stack, French Onion Biscone, and the Strawberry Kouign Amann. The Lion's Head Stack was certainly a unique and interesting dish. I also had the French Onion Biscone, which was exactly what you'd expect from a savory biscuit/scone. The Rebel Within, a signature item, was a bit of a disappointment for me as it was a little on the dry side. My favorite by far was the Strawberry Kouign Amann. The filling had a perfect balance of sweet and tart, and it added a fantastic new texture to the pastry. It was definitely the highlight of my order and something I'd get again. At long last, Craftsman & Wolves has finally opened their storefront in the South Bay in Mountain View off of San Antonio a block east from El Camino. I had a chance to stop by the weekend after their opening and caught the tail end of their pastry selection a little after noon. It's a compact space that considerably smaller than their Valencia flagship store with dark grey wooden shelves and light grey counter top with a polished concrete floor. The furniture inside is pretty neat with the angular copper chairs. They have a lot of goodies such as their own confectioned salted caramels, vials of Tabasco salt and bags of roasted coffee for sale. I found the line to be a bit awkward. As you enter the door, it wraps toward the left against the wall, past two tables where people are seated. I was trying to keep some distance between me and a seated couple, but I was only about 3 feet away from them. They had only three of their signature Rebel Withins, two regular and one elote. I opted for the elote. Later at home when I actually ate it, the dough around the egg was actually fairly undercooked. I had to open it up and bake it for about five minutes to harden it sufficiently. I've had Rebel Withins from their Valencia location and don't recall it ever being that doughy. I also ordered the Coconut Banana Bread and Lime Wire, which is essentially an espresso tonic with a heavy infusion of lime elements with a double shot of espresso. It was rich in flavor, but may be an acquired taste for less-seasoned coffee drinkers. While I was seated, I watched several customers walk up and ask for savory items. The staff informed them that savory items were not yet available because the appliance they ordered to make them arrived broken. Rebel Withins were all gone around 12:30pm on Saturday. I went for a second round to try the Dulce de Leche Latte, which has a heavy caramel flavor. It tasted good, a bit sweeter than I usually prepare my lattes. I also got a pastry called Summer Choux that had Guava Calamansi cream inside of a crackled red shell. It had a pleasant citrus flavor and would go well with a pour over or Americano. I look forward to returning when I'm in the area and trying more of the pastries and savory items once they are available. read more

Did I miss the parking garage? Either way this coffee shop is right off the San Antonio Rd right next to Bank of America. Walked in and immediately saw the simple coffee menu and the copious amounts of pastries including the ones they are popular for. The cashier shared what was popular in both savory and sweet pastries. They all looked beautiful but I ultimately opted out of any pastries this visit. I knew I wanted to try the 24 hr strong af cold brew and asked how sweet the dulce de leche latte was and she was open to adding milk instead of the condensed milk. I opted to have it how it comes and was not disappointed. It was a yummy drink. It was sweet but not hurt your teeth sweet. The cold brew lived up to its name because it was strong af. Added a splash of oat milk and it was a go! I enjoyed both my coffee drinks. The cashier that helped me was very sweet and answered all my questions. She made the space welcoming.
