Great Japanese operated sushi restaurant serving traditional high quality food. Don't expect to find "crazy rolls" here with cream cheese and stuff that doesn't belong inside sushi. They have great nigiri and sashimi, the original selections. I really like their chirashi here (sashimi over a bed of sushi rice). Inside is small but the service is fast and good.
I think it's time that I bumped this up to five stars. We've been many times, and it's consistently my wife's favorite sushi spot. The sushi tastes fresh and quality, and the service is always quick and polite. We try to get there around 5:30pm to beat the rush.
This is the sister store of Tomi Sushi in San Jose Moorpark Avenue next to Mitsuwa supermarket. There is a parking lot across from the restaurant. It has the same lunch special menu from Monday to Friday , plus Saturday and Sunday . Daily lunch ends at 1:30 pm . We love the lunch menu . You can choose from two items or 4 items bento . You can choose sushi rolls , sashimi , grilled fish collard collar , tempura, tonkatsu or teriyaki chicken . Prices are super $19.99 to $22.99 for good quality of sashimi or chicken and pork , etc . If you like to order omakase set , they have then available as well . Wines and beers menu has great choices as well . You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu !
6/5/2026 Friday Dinner I haven't been back for ages. We were the first party to arrive at 5pm. and opted to sit at the counter. They have a $70 ten piece omakase and $110 omakase with appetizers. We didn't find the apps very appealing so we went with the $70 one. Fish quality was fine. 4-stars because they served the nigiri on a plate all at once instead of serving single piece at a time so it doesn't matter whether you sit at the counter or table. We also ordered the aji tataki for $21.50. The fish was a bit small. The wait staff will take the fish head/bone back to the kitchen and deep fried it, and was done very well.
Was in the area and wanted affordable but delicious sushi. Reddit states this is the best sushi in MV *shrug* ***do not forget to look at the white boards and the plastic Saran wrapped bento for specials*** REGULAR NIGIRI: ONLY MISO SOUP! No salad included! The sushi rice was disgusting let alone the rolls themselves. I don't know if it's because they forgot to flavor the rice or what, but something was very off about the rice. Most of the fish wasn't very fresh either, making me regret that I did not just take advantage with ordering the lunch nigiri. Wasabi automatically included in each nigiri, not the fresh type. LUNCH BENTO, 2 items for $17.90 - salmon teriyaki was literally boiled salmon with grill marks and a slather of teriyaki sauce on top - tempura was nicely fried, nice mixture of vegetables - wished there were ground daikon to be mixed in with the dipping sauce - salad was a light mayo vinegar dressing - two orange slices - miso soup was tasty probably due to hunger - great affordable option - ask about their lunch special (it's usually laid out and wrapped in plastic as you're walking in) SERVICE: Attentive. Bubbly personalities. If you don't order right away, they kind of just forget about you. AMBIANCE: There's Japanese traditional partitions and decor. Casual dining. Very quick turnarounds especially for sushi and sashimi. Owned by Chinese. Lots of Mandarin speaking individuals dining in. Located in the deserted MV downtown with poor, lackluster signage. However, there's a free 2 hour private parking lot across the street (but people fight for spots...)! Would I come back? No.
Our family of 4 arrived on a very wet and rainy Saturday around 6 PM. This specific location in Mountain View normally has a long line and waitlist since they do not take reservations. We were pleasantly surprised that the wait was not very long at all. Probably due to the weather. The normally packed parking lot across the street was almost empty. We waited about 15-20 minutes before being sat at my favorite table near the window. We always order the extra special nigiri and a few additional pieces à la cart. We were lucky enough to try the 4 piece Japan fish combo special this time as well. My youngest orders the galbi and a side of rice. The galbi was extremely thick! I was so surprised. She really enjoyed it. Every table was packed per usual, including the sushi bar. I especially appreciate this family friendly spot for it's consistent service and value. You can't beat the nigiri special price! Just be prepared to wait if you arrive during prime dining hours. Service has always been consistently good here which you wouldn't expect for such a busy restaurant. Nothing fancy or stuffy.
Sushi Tomi is a little tight-knit with a lot of seating (and was fairly full on the Thursday night I went) but overall clean. Service was efficient and helpful as well. I ordered the Combination Special Dinner with Tonkatsu and Salmon Sashimi. The presentation was a little more on the basic side but the portions were great and satisfying to taste.
The special sashimi was incredible. The cuts were thick and incredibly fresh. The fish melted in my mouth. The super bomb roll was too much rice that took away from its flavor, but it had a very chewy texture. The staff was super nice and friendly. The shop was cozy and very clean. The tables and seats are positioned very close to each other. There was a 10 minute wait on a Friday night and a long line forming by the time we left.

The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance, but it's pretty cramped so definitely not a lot of space to move around. It's pretty popular and they don't have reservations so heads up!
Came here on a Monday night and it was a popular spot with the place full up. It has a homey vibe inside, not too fancy, wood panels everywhere. Got seated and they come to get ur order pretty quickly. Was recommend to get the Xtra Special dinner for the uni. I felt it was a classic nigiri set. Didnt feel it was super special. But the fish was good. The rice was a bit mushy and kept falling apart for me which i didnt like. It was a bit hot in there as well. Not my fav spot but decent sushi spot.
Absolutely amazing, so melt in your mouth delicious! Got a bunch of rolls to share with a group and every single one was a delight. Definitely pricey, and the place is unassuming so I was a bit concerned, but it proved itself a top sushi spot.
So fresh and affordable! This place serves amazing high-quality sushi in Mountain View. A friend who has been coming here for years recommended it, and I'm so glad they did. It was incredible. I had the extra special chirashi sushi and it was unbelievably fresh. I left completely full and felt it was absolutely worth the price. The service was also fantastic. The place fills up quickly. I arrived right when they opened at 5, and within 30 mins it was already full. Be sure to plan ahead. You have to try it. I will definitely be coming back. I'm already craving it!
Was recommended to us by a friend as an authentic Japanese sushi spot and it was a great experience! We got the lunch combo (with tonkatsu and saba) and both were pretty good! They were seasoned nicely, but we found that they were a little more on the dry side, and relied more heavily on the sauces. We also got the Extra Special Chirashi Sushi. I'm not sure what the distinction between the different tiers of the chirashi were, but the Extra Special version featured both Uni and Ikura. The sashimi was very fresh and they were generous in terms of the portion size. Based on this, I would recommend going more towards the sushi/sashimi dishes and avoid the rice/bento dishes. Service was great and seating was intimate and nice!
Always a fav with my son. We came here for dinner and as always there's a wait. The servers know my son pretty well and always happy to see him. We ordered my fav - the sukiyaki dinner bento with spicy tuna. Also ordered chicken teriyaki and a bunch of sashimi. A lively environment with friendly service and delicious food. I haven't been to Sushi Tomi for awhile now, craving for their hamachi don. Sushi Tomi is owned by Japanese (which in the Bay Area is feeer and fewer, most are owned by Korean and Chinese). Strangely, most of the waiters and serves are Chinese (spoke Chinese), and they really are not friendly. If I didn't know better, I thought I was at a Chinese restaurant, and the poor service is as expected. I dined in, as expected . I saw the person next to me (sushi bar) that ordered a sashimi dinner, and it looked so good, fresh, decent size pieces. So the next day, I went and ordered a sashimi dinner to go. I hate ordering to go! Look at the photo, I got a 7-eleven packet of dehydrated miso soup, and the sashimi was skimpy!!!! What a joke! Sushi Tomi is a great authentic sushi restaurant in downtown Mountain View. The vibe is classic down to the sushi bar and the decorating. The place seems clean but not new or modern. The staff is really friendly and actually pretty funny when you talk with them. The food is wonderful. The sushi is fresh and well presented. The agedashi tofu was delicious. And I highly recommend the unagi donburi. This is a definite place to go back ! read more

I first visited this spot over ten years ago when my team took me here for my birthday. I am a vegetarian and so I wasn't expecting to eat much. Clearly they chose the place keeping their preferences in mind instead of the birthday girl- ha ha. But this place surprised me. I could eat seaweed salad and also cucumber and avocado sushi. This was much more than I was expecting to get which was absolutely nothing. Fast forward to now, my daughter loves this place because I brought her here a few years ago when another one of my workplaces was at walking distance from here. So today I brought here for old times sake. Seeing her eat sushi with chopsticks at the age of 8 when I first ate it at the age of 23 is humbling. I feel grateful and also strangely emotional. So this is our place filled with memories and my personal growth. Gets very busy so would recommend getting here early before 11.30 am when they open. Closed on Tuesdays. They have excellent lunch specials if you eat everything. Would recommend. Very popular for work lunches. Ambience is casual. read more

Last time I visited this spot was last year! My favorite thing to order is the Tomi Special Roll , sooo delicious! The nigiri is solid too. We ordered a lot of salmon belly, and our server even gave us some extra marinated salmon belly. Loved it! This place honestly feels the closest to a traditional Japanese restaurant that I've been to. Just loved the vibe! read more
Started lining up for dinner at 4:40pm on a Saturday (20min before opening) with a party of 2, and we weren't even the first in line! Better get here quick to get a seat unless you can stand to wait. This time they opened 10min early, so we only had to wait for 10min. I always get the extra special chirashi when I come here and the quality has never declined. Definitely my favorite go-to dinner. This time we also got a chef's choice 3-part appetizer with duck, salmon, and white tuna. At only $18 this was daylight robbery steal. Highly recommend a try! read more

Definitely one of my favorite sushi spots in all of South Bay for casual nigiri and sushi rolls. All of the sashimi are so consistently fresh and high quality. The salmon pieces are so thick and amazing. The uni was so flavorful and tasted like the ocean (in a good way). Everything was super great value for the price too! My fiance and I came at 5:30pm on a Friday and were able to get a table immediately, we barely beat the dinner rush because by the time we finished ordering, the storefront started getting crowded with people waiting for a spot. The service is okay, friendly but not super attentive. Our server essentially only came by for us to order and then drop off the check at the end. But she did give really good menu suggestions. read more
We came here on a Saturday night and there was a wait, even at 7 pm. There was a line out the door and it was cold but we managed. A line says good things about the food right? We were seated after approximately 20 minutes. It was cozy and warm inside but there was enough space in between the tables to be comfortable. The staff is so courteous and helpful while also being efficient. The menu not having descriptions of the rolls felt like a little bit of a gamble but we went for it. We ordered the beef teriyaki dinner with soup and salad, the super bomb roll and the tomi special roll. The tomi special roll was our favorite- phenomenal. The super bomb was pretty good. We wrapped it up with a Matcha cheesecake. I don't typically like cheesecake but this was a really good sweet treat to end the meal. We would definitely come here again. read more

I don't remember if I came here during undergrad but I do remember hearing about it. Although it is a little pricey, the food is great. We got a variety of food. The grilled mackerel and black cod were well seasoned, the cod was very tender. The nigiri sushi was solid, I don't have anything particular to say about them. Ochazuke felt a little underseasoned for me. Green tea cheesecake to finish off our meal had a light tea flavor and wasn't overly really sweet. They do close a bit early, last orders at 7:45. read more

One of my favourite date night is four dollar sign omakase. But obviously that's not realistic on a frequent basis. When I'm craving for one of those date nights but don't want to spend four dollar signs, we go to Sushi Tomi!! We always know that we'll be happy because that's what Sushi Tomi is - reliable! We always ONLY get their nigiris (from their a-la-carte nigiri menu, not the sets) and we sometimes think that the freshness of their fish rival other high end sushi restaurants. IMO this is the best way to eat here - only get their nigiri's and try your best to order from their handwritten special fish menu. They probably make less money from fresh nigiri than a cooked bento box so that's why I think it's a better bang for your buck!! Their scallops and tuna are very good - the baseline for a good sushi spot ;) Uni can vary sometimes but still very good for a day to day spot. We also love the Eel Roll!!!! We get it each time and I always alternate between the nigiri's and the eel roll for the perfect bites! We've never tried their omakase as I enjoy selecting my preferred nigiris instead at a place like this. Before going, set your expectations and know that it will usually be at least a 30-40 minute wait for weekend dinners. Though annoying, I think it's a testament that I'm not the only one that think this is a great place! There is no online waitlist, you must be physically present to put your name down. I find that the wait here is longer than the San Jose location and the tables are tighter. The volume can also be quite loud here. However, we still opt to come to this location sometimes because we love walking over to Rootstock afterwards for some wine! While I love the nigiri's, a growth area for them is their service. They can be slow at times with getting items (such as chopsticks or refilling tea) but it doesn't stop us from thinking that's it's one of our favourite spots! read more

Sushi Tomi used to be a special destination, but unfortunately my most recent visit didn't live up to that reputation. The place is still very busy, with long wait times as usual, and service was decent--polite and efficient given how packed it gets. No real complaints there. The food, however, was underwhelming for the price. The quality of the fish has noticeably gone downhill compared to past visits. Hamachi was average at best Toro was disappointing--barely fatty and lacking richness Salmon was just okay Rolls were actually the highlight and still pretty good Overall, nothing was bad, but nothing felt special either--and at these prices, "mediocre" just doesn't cut it anymore. Sushi Tomi used to justify the hype, but with so many better sushi options around now, it's hard to recommend unless you're going purely for nostalgia. read more
Stopped in for a solo lunch after flying in from out of town and got seated right away. I ordered the lunch combination bento with tonkatsu and sashimi add-on. I wasn't sure if it was a special version of miso soup or just a usual house soup that accompanied it but I appreciated the pieces of cooked salmon in the soup. I also requested that my sashimi only be salmon instead of a mix with tuna and they honored the request just fine. I also liked the two large orange slices that came in the bento, a perfect dessert to end the meal. I heard that this place is an institution in Mountain View so I'm glad I got to try it. the sashimi here is so fresh and the salmon toro was especially fatty and not fishy at all! the yellowtail was really fatty and the best i've ever had i would highly recommend the super special chirashi bowl as it comes with a large variety of really delicious sashimi on top that pairs really well with the really seasoned rice and ginger! the server was kind and helpful. the ambiance was very lowkey and chill. read more
Came on a Thursday evening. No wait, but steady crowd inside. It's cute on the inside, totally unsuspecting from the outside. We were quickly seated and gave our order for omakase, we picked agedashi tofu and salmon kama for the appetizers we can choose. Also got 1 lb of the grilled crab leg special. We got a salmon treat on the house, that was so good. Agedashi tofu was good, Kama was undercooked but we ate around it haha but the server caught it and got it cooked for us and gave us 2 small dishes on the house. Service is chill but we appreciated the attention to detail. Omakase was ok. Didn't taste that fresh to be honest, they give you the fried shrimp head to go with the sweet shrimp and it was really good. If we came back we would try the sushi maybe. The grilled crab leg they cut up for you so it's easy to eat but it was way too salty.. read more
Came here on a Sunday night as a table of 2 around 5:20pm and added ourselves to the waitlist! We waited for about 20-30 minutes before getting seated. They open at 5pm and all the tables tend to fill up right as they open, so we got a table during their second wave! ~the food~ - Seafood salad ($16): I really enjoyed this light and refreshing salad! Iceberg lettuce, topped with a variety of sashimi pieces, which were pretty generous imo! The salad dressing was a light soy/ponzu based dressing that doesn't overpower the fish! Really enjoyed this; would be good appetizer to share too! - Tomi special roll w/ hamachi ($18): loved this! for the inside of the roll, you can choose between Hamachi sake (salmon), and spicy tuna; we went with hamachi as the staff said that was the recommended! Loved that they put the spicy mayo on the side of the plate, rather than on top of the rolls so that we can enjoy the fish without it being drenched in mayo! Overall, I think this roll was pretty filling, but not too heavy. - Caterpillar roll ($17): Also a pretty filling roll! A sweeter roll because of the sweet unagi sauce on top! I think this roll is a bit heavier since both the avocado and unagi adds some sweetness and fattiness to it, but we really enjoyed it! ~parking~ There's a public parking lot right in front of the restaurant and also lots of stress parking as well! ~overall~ While sushi Tomi tends to get pretty busy (especially on weekends), I think it's a pretty good local spot for some sushi! Everything tastes very fresh and not too heavy! High recommend getting here early, putting your name down on the waitlist and then walk around Castro St while you wait :) Pricing is a little high, but I think the quality makes up for it! Takeout was good albeit a bit confusing. Day I went, they ran out of miso soup so they gave out packets and green onion! Thought it was sauce so I was putting it over my mackerel and it was so salty. The fish was sooo fresh for the tuna and salmon sashimi combo, was so pretty and appetizing. The wasabi was great too. read more

Becoming my go-to place for sushi, this or the location in West San Jose. I got the Tomj bento box this time, and it was a good amount of food and every part was delicious. My friend got a tempura shrimp lunch set, which I was a little skeptical of because I thought the price was a little high, but they gave her a plateful of tempura which made the price make more sense. We came right at open and was able to get seated right away. Otherwise, be prepared to put your name on the waitlist and wait. They were super busy for a Sunday lunch so I imagine it's like that all weekend. This place is located in Downtown Mountainview a couple blocks off Castro. There's the usual parking garages for Castro, as well as nearby residential street parking near Sushi Tomi. read more

Sushi Tomi is always solid and a great deal! I got the extra special nigiri set and it was very filling. It was also only $38, which is a great price for the Bay. They give a lot of fish and the fish is very fresh. The only one I'd skip is the clam. The sushi tomi and spicy salmon rolls were also super good. Came on a Friday night and it was crowded. There's always a wait during peak times as it's pretty popular. For a party of 6 waited about 20-30 minutes. The restaurant is a bit small but the wait goes by fast. There's no reservations and you have to come to write your name down. There's also no seating inside so I recommend waiting in your car or walking around while waiting. Today was surprisingly not as busy as other days I've come to eat, so we were definitely in for a treat. The sushi were all fantastic -- we got a plate of hamachi, kanpachi, sake, and unagi nigiri, the salmon sampler, and a sake onigiri for the toddler. The salmon sampler was absolutely wonderful -- they were featuring Hakodate salmon which was to die for. I need to make my way to Hakodate now, or hope Sushi Tomi brings it over more often. The deep fried chilean sea bass was a bit dry though -- the mustard was overpowering and one of the filets was half in the sauce ... the egg salad-like tartar sauce was great and I could eat it on its own however. Overall it was just okay but I wouldn't get it again. Would've saved room for more salmon but they'd run out by the time I realized I wanted more. read more
Still a super solid spot in Mountain View for delicious, fresh sushi! We usually have no problem grabbing a spot when arriving at opening. I tried their sushi rolls for the first time in awhile (my go-to is usually the chirashi bowl). The caterpillar had a good amount of unagi and generous avocado on top. The salmon was very fresh and buttery in the roll. Both rolls had a good fish to rice ratio and I enjoyed the firmer texture of the rice. Recommend grabbing chirashi, rolls, or any of the sushi/sashimi meal sets! read more

There are 3 vegetarian/cegan options, I recommend the paella.
Are they open again? They've been closed due to construction when I last checked in early Aug (2021) -- would love to hear they're back up and running again.
I walked by on Saturday, August 14, 2021. Sushi Tomi was open but looked like for take out only. The dining area was still dark. The overall building remodeling is still in progress. I would imagine that we can dine in again in another week or two.

They should be, They are closed from 2pm to 530pm during the weekdays
