Ordered food from Amazing Katsu's Sunnyvale location on October 8 for a family dinner. One of the items was a Pork Tenderloin Katsu Deluxe Set. When we got home and opened the box, the pork katsu was completely missing! Just rice, cabbage, and sauces. How do you forget the MAIN item in a katsu meal? But what really made this experience unacceptable was what happened next. Their Sunnyvale location operates as a pickup-only kitchen with lockers and no staff available to help customers. I called their phone number, but nobody answered. I sent a text message and got no response. I was even willing to drive back to pick up the missing food, but there was absolutely no way to reach anyone. So we didn't receive everything we ordered, and ended up without enough food for our family. I understand that restaurants make mistakes. That's not the biggest problem here. The real problem is having absolutely no customer support when something goes wrong. If you're operating a pickup-only business without staff available, you need a reliable way for customers to contact you and resolve problems. Otherwise, customers are simply stuck when their orders are incorrect. Tried to reach out via all contact info they list, text email.. no one respond after 7 days. Very disappointing experience. Wow this is probably one of the better and most authentic tonkatsu places I've had outside of Japan. I can't speak for the other selection but the tonkatsu (pork) was on par with something I can get in Japan. The exterior was very crispy, the cutlet was thick and pretty juicy, and the katsu sauce was good as well. The cabbage was fresh and cut super super thin, the rice was good, and they even provided Japanese mustard. Not a lot of places give you a side of karashi... but this goes well with the katsu. Miso was so so and the curry was a little sweeter than normal but good and goes well with the rice. I door dashed it so not sure about the store itself. But I will definitely come again for tonkatsu. This spot was definitely unique, they operate out of a ghost kitchen so it's only pick up and it's a little complicated but once I got the food it was good. This place was a bit far from my house but the first time I got it, the katsu stayed crispy the whole time. I honestly liked it a lot the first time that I came back to get it again the next day, but it tasted less fresh and crispy the next day, so a little inconsistent. I got the set with shrimp, pork, and chicken and it was fire. I've been coming here to pickup lunch regularly (ghost kitchen). The Santa Clara and Sunnyvale location and about the same, can't tell any difference in quality. My favorite is the shrimp with the tartar sauce. The fry they put on the Katsu is also special, much flakier and crispier than a typical fry. Amazing Katsu really shines where it counts: the katsu itself. Both the chicken and pork katsu are consistently excellent--crispy, perfectly fried, and still juicy inside. No heaviness, no grease. Just very solid comfort food done right. The double meat katsu does not come with curry sauce, even though the name and the photo make it seem like it does. What actually comes out is a lot of cabbage, a small amount of rice, and no curry. You can order curry sauce on the side, but it's a very small portion for the price--more like a dipping sauce than something you can really pour over your katsu and rice. Because of that, we usually end up making our own curry and rice at home to pair with their katsu. I personally skip the premium tonkatsu since it's a bit too fatty for me, but the regular pork and the chicken are both excellent and dependable. We read Yelp reviews so we ordered online to avoid having to wait, and it worked! Our food was ready shortly after we arrived. This location is a pick up location only so there wasn't anywhere to sit. We ended up eating in our car however we were not provided with any utensils. We gave this place two stars because although the food tasted good initially, it was very heavy and greasy. We felt very bloated and felt like the oil that was used was most likely a cheap oil which made the whole meal not as enjoyable. It got to be too much and I didn't even want to finish it. I found something in my food that shouldn't have been in there - which is the one knock we had against the place. I have ordered this via Doordash for pick-up and delivery. The first time was a disaster since the delivery driver dropped off the wrong order. As a few have mentioned, it's a "Ghost Kitchen" so there's a few stores there. But this was a Doordash issue so we tried again with a pick-up to be sure. Third time was delivery and that worked fine. Had the pork loin,tenders and shrimp combo. Now that's thick, juicy and lean pork tenderloins. Good size shrimp too. The batter is light, airy, and tasty. I was concerned that with the thick cuts it would be overly oily, but found more juice than oil so surprisingly not overly oily. Maybe because I picked up about 20 mins late and provided more time for oil to drain. I've read some people being critical of the pork being light in flavor. I would say a bit watery to substitute the oil with. With that the Katsu sauce is typical and good, but a bit underwhelming, too light for this thick and juicy stuff. Now the curry sauce hits well and highly recommend to provide the perfect Katsu experience. Some prior ad pics show what appears to be scoops of potato salad. We ordered the cheese katsu and pork lion katsu deluxe set. Overall, the cheese katsu was good, but the pork lion katsu was a little dry for my taste. We waited about 50 minutes for the food- which is honestly a really long time. After FINALLY getting our food and driving home, we realized we weren't given our rice and cabbage included in the deluxe set. Disappointed, yes. Super annoyed, forsure!
