Combo #2
Tim L.

Came here after watching a movie at the AMC Theaters across the plaza. I really like the interior presentation. It's clean and well lit, although it's a fairly small unit. Service was quick, got seated immediately had their water includes a slice of lemon for freshness which I appreciate over plain tap water. I got their Combo #2 pho since I wanted to try out their oxtail. It was decent. Very flavorful and I don't if their jalapeños are fresh cut but after placing a few cuts in the broth, I could feel the spiciness kick in. Portion is smaller compared to the tradition pho places but overall really good and still ended up full at the end of the meal.

Great pho, the broth was really good. The place is kind of small, but luckily when we went it wasn't so busy.

I came here at night, and there was plenty of seating. The restaurant isn't too big, but it's clean and cozy. I ordered Pho with tai (rare steak), gau (brisket), and short rib with regular noodles. If you want to try the fresh noodles, there's an extra charge. The broth was flavorful and piping hot. One downside is that it was a bit too oily, even though I didn't order the fatty broth. The steak was tender and decent, and the short rib was also tender, though not a big piece. The side of basil wasn't very fresh, and I wish they gave a larger plate of vegetables. You order by ticking boxes on the paper sheet they leave on the table. Utensils and napkins were already set when I arrived. There's one thing I'm wondering about, the service fee they charged me, even though I was dining alone. It wasn't a big amount, but I think customers should be informed about it. I already left a 15% tip on my bill. -1

Brisket pho and brisket with beef ribs, pork and shrimp egg rolls

Came here for lunch on a Saturday late afternoon. I was worried they would be busy because of the farmer's market, but surprisingly it was not that busy. I like their custom menu of pho bowls. I had just their brisket, and my mom custom-ordered brisket and beef ribs. It was a lot of meat. Super considerate with the meat. The broth was also pretty good and I think it said, it was a 16-hour broth. The meats were very very tender. It melts in your mouth, which makes it very easy to chew. That's what my mom and I really love about. We also ordered Pork and Shrimp fried egg rolls. Couldn't really make out the shrimp tho... And it was very deeply fried. Not sure if they re-fried it. The restaurant is clean, but some of the tables weren't clean when we were seated, so we were moved. Overall, the experience was good. At least a goodbye or thank you would have been nice when we were leaving.... after I was about to say thank you (or wanted to, when I looked behind me as I opened the door to look at the staff as a courtesy)

Got the combo #3 with thin noodles. The broth was good and this place is the only pho place that will give you load of meats. We got our food pretty quick and I did appreciate their customize your own pho topping option. Will try that next time

Chicken Pho

Packaging is done well no food spills, ordered via uber eats and took advantage of the buy one get one free coupons, ban mi was pretty good and flavorful, chicken pho was alright as well. Didnt get any of the typical sauce packets you get at most pho places with the order so was disappointed. The chicken pho broth was good.

Review for take out only. Prob not the best not the worst pho I've had. But in terms of value, it can't be beat as long as they keep the Uber eats deal. There is currently a BOGO deal on certain items like the chicken pho, chicken rice dish, and grilled pork vermicelli. I really like the chicken pho and feel the broth is tasty and soothing. I also tried their grilled pork vermicelli dish and feel like the pork could be much better. It wasn't juicy and was a bit dry. Portions were solid no complaints. Overall, pretty middle of the pack pho spot but great value with the Uber eats deal and a solid option if you're looking for a decent pho in Sunnyvale.

came here twice. solid place. rolls are mid. bun bo hue also mid but pho was actually not bad. i do kinda like how you can pick your meat and what to add. service was friendly both times!

Clean pho spot in downtown Sunnyvale hut but pricey. Soup and noodles were OK. Egg yolk on side and pickled onions not worth it. Not a bad spot if you're in area but way better options in San Jose if you can venture out.

Grilled Pork and shrimp vermicelli

Grilled pork and shrimp vermicelli - the pork and shrimps are flavorful. Spring roll - very refreshing but the dipping sauce was not enough for 4 spring rolls.

Beef brisket and rare steak pho

Servers are nice and friendly. Quiet as not many patrons on a weekday for dinner. Egg rolls were flavorful and crispy. Pho broth had amazing depth of flavor. Love all the additions to the pho they offer. It's awesome that you can customize your broth, meat, and toppings. I also love that you can get fresh wide pho noodles for an upcharge.

I ordered takeout, so I can't review on the ambiance or service, but this was one of the better pho dishes I've had! The broth was flavorful, but maybe a little too salty for my preference. The meat was great! The dish had a generous serving of all the combo 1 meats (brisket, short rib and filet), and they were all very tender. I'll definitely come back to try other dishes!

Korean BBQ Short Ribs

Came here on a Sunday for lunch after a family Caltrain ride. Not too busy when we came and the dining area is very nice, bright, open and inviting. They had 2 tv monitors showing various travel scenes making me wish I was there. The service was nice and kid friendly as well. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. This is what we ordered and we liked them all: Shaking beef with garlic noodles Pho with various beef items Korean grilled short ribs with rice I'll be back in the future if I'm in the area and craving Vietnamese food!

Great BOGO order. Had to add some extra flavoring to the pho but can't complain for 2 bowls of chicken pho for $15!! (Uber)

Are they still operational ? We tried calling for pickup on Fri (2/12) and Sat (2/13).. no response.

They were probably closed for lunar new year celebrations

Are all of the vegetarian options vegan? Is the peanut sauce served with the tofu rolls vegan?

That's good question and I am not sure. I believe you need to specify vegan so they use proper broth/sauce. Check with them -- it will be worth it if they can go all in vegan.

Does the vegetarian Pho have msg?

100% NOT msg!

The ambiance is stunning -- stylish, modern, and definitely Instagram-worthy. The menu had some dishes that felt Korean-Italian inspired, and my uni pasta was pretty good, though overall the food was more visually impressive than truly memorable in flavor. A couple downsides: it can get quite loud, and the host wasn't always the most prompt when answering questions about larger party accommodations. Still, GIWA is a beautiful choice for group dinners if you value atmosphere and presentation.

I was once blown away by the quality and presentation of the food. I'm sad to say that present-day Giwa is a shadow of its former self. I used to recommend this place, but I no longer can. In the past two weeks, I've tried the tangerine tea, napolitan pasta, loaded burger, yuzu salmon benedict, chicken and waffle, and omurice. The benedict in particular is much worse than it used to be. The burger is extraordinarily average, and the napolitan pasta tasted like a ready-to-eat TV dinner. It's sad that Giwa seems to have relied on its old reputation and stopped caring about maintaining quality. With so much demand, I suppose there's little incentive to improve. Still, I would much rather pay more than get this. The service here is also notoriously bad, which I never really minded since I've always believed food over service. However, with the food being what it is now, a pleasant meal with good service is the least I can ask for, and you won't get that here. The service is brusque, and our table was rushed to leave before we had even finished eating. We asked for more time, but they came back and put boxes on our table anyway, even though it was already full, which made it even more cramped. I hope the chefs and team at Giwa can dial back time and return to what initially made them so special. They truly were a standout gem in the bay area, and they could still be if they continued to prioritize their own craft.

I hadn't had it for a couple years, and I'd forgotten how magical it is. Came here in a group and did a family style order including the okonomiyaki "sampler." The four items in the sampler were the first four items completely eaten by our group! Maybe all okonomiyaki is this good and I'd just forgotten. Or maybe Fugetsu is really special. Deep red chili oil on top, beef broth underneath that tastes like it actually simmered for hours, tender braised beef, bok choy, scallions, and cilantro finishing it off. Heat builds slowly and stays there, not the cheap instant burn you get at lesser spots. The clear broth version is clean and comforting, more for the purist crowd, but the spicy has way more depth. Noodles are the real deal. Hand pulled in house, chewy with that perfect pull when you bite in, holds up in the broth without going soggy halfway through. You can order different thicknesses, which is the move. The cucumber salad appetizer is a must. Whole cucumber fanned out like a dragon coil, dressed simply with garlic, vinegar, and chili. Crisp, cold, cuts through the spice of the soup perfectly. Get one per person, trust me. Service is fast, prices are fair for what you get, and the bowls come out hot and massive. The flavor profile is deeply reminiscent of a HK pork chop baked rice if juicy pork meatballs were used. The service is always friendly here and our food came out quickly! My only minor gripe was the pacing as we had 3 dishes on our small square table at one point in the meal. I understand though, since they clearly had a busy night ahead as the restaurant filled up quickly after 7:30 PM. Ambience is kind of loud due to the chatter and closely spaced tables.
