5 stars for the soy garlic wings. They are double fried and always crispy. They are usually plump and juicy. They are not dried out or thin wings. I like the Sunnyvale location the best. I've tried other locations and the wigs aren't cooked enough or just right. Our family of four orders the medium 24 pieces with radish or coleslaw. If we have other food with the wings, it's enough. If not, then we order the bulgogi fries, fried zucchini, and/or rice. We have tried most of their sides and they are ok but the star is the wings. Of course for convenience, it's easier to order sides to go with the wings than to make another stop. Wings are usually done when they say. Service is usually young adults ready to help at the register. We always get our wings to go. There is a sit down eating area with tv's but not my scene. It's very open and seems great for young people. There's a big lot to park and you might have to walk. It gets very busy occasionally due to the other businesses in the complex. read more

I'm sad I have to leave such a low review for Bonchon. They used to be my favorite, good priced wings in a family bundle with some Soju, was the best after work! Now they don't have that bundle anymore, they're skimpy on the radish, they're skimpy on the sauce, the wings are insanely expensive and they reduced portion size. Wholesale a pound of wings is around $3, that gives 9-12 wings depending on the size. For 24 wings, it would cost them max $7.50. 24 wings now costs $42 on their menu. Final Thoughts: 4.47/5 We've been to Bon Chon lots of times now. This is my first time coming to this specific location though. Apparently this is their first location, but no one quote me on that. Simple lunch/dinner meal. Overall, good experience from beginning to end. Food: Mixed 6 Wings and 3 Drumsticks: 4.5/5 Personal preference for me is the combination of drumsticks and wings, so you get a little bit of everything. These flavors are also a fave for me. We got half yangnyeom and half soy garlic today. The yangnyeom sauce is one of their newer flavors that I've tried. Similar to soy garlic, but with a Korean sweet and spicy kick. Quite umami; nice balance of sweet, salty, and spicy. For the garlic soy, this is always a solid option for me since it is one of the original flavors. The flavor is like a teriyaki sauce. Sweet sticky soy sauce with the flavor of garlic mixed in. That combined with the crispy chicken is really good. My one note though is that I don't think the chicken itself is seasoned enough before frying. This means that all of the flavor is on the outside skin. Once you get to the actual meat of the chicken, there's not much flavor on it at all. Perhaps this is where some additional dipping sauces will help. It's not too big of a concern because the coating of sauce on the outside does a really nice job with adding flavor, but it was just something that I've consistently observed. The chicken is also very crispy. My friend mentioned that the batter and outside crust seems to be thicker. Small note, but something I do appreciate is that they specifically label which sauce is which with a little toothpick "flag". This is genuinely what I need because I can usually never tell which items are which when given to me all at once or on the same plate. Fried Shrimp Shumai: 4.0/5 Simple appetizer item for us. They give you the option for steamed or fried and we went with the fried option today for that crisp. Quite nice presentation. The dumplings are placed on a bed of shredded cabbage with spicy mayo and soy garlic sauce. The flavors work quite nicely together. Perhaps the shrimp was too finely chopped because there wasn't really a bite or crunch to any big pieces of shrimp. That or the dumplings were too small to have those bigger pieces be filled inside. The sauces were nice. Spicy mayo was very light. Just a slight kick to it. Soy garlic was flavor was also very light and contributes nicely as a sauce. For texture, I like the different components. The cabbage added some crunch and a little freshness to it that we could eat with the dumplings. The shumai was also very crispy and it wasn't hard or dry. Coleslaw: 2.9/5 This is one of their complimentary sides. This or the pickled radish. Personally, I like the radish for that tartness and crunch. We did go with coleslaw today. It wasn't bad. I'm just not too fond of the excess liquid that pools. Flavor gave the meal some freshness. The veggies added another texture component too. --------- Quality: Aight They quality is alright. When the chicken and shumai came out, both items were not piping hot like they just came out of the frier. It felt more as if it came from out of the food warmer. Perhaps I would be more alright with this and can pass this off if the place were packed and very busy, but it wasn't at the time that we went. Usually the chicken would be hot to touch, but it wasn't and that goes the same for the shumai. Not that I would want to burn my tongue, but temperature does affect quality for me. For the three of us, it was $39 total including tax and tip. If you do decide to get other or more items, it might end up leaning on the more expensive side. Service: Pleasant Our waitress was very sweet and cute. We were able to sit where we liked perhaps because it wasn't super busy at the time. She refilled our waters, got our food items out as they were done, and checked on us. Ambiance: Late night adventure vibes Typical little fried chicken restaurant. This is honestly the scene that I imagine for a late night adventure. Dim interior, quite spacious, and just enough tables to fill the space with optimal room to walk between the tables and seats. Location/Parking: Spacious It's located inside of a plaza and right at the corner of the top right corner of the side when you're looking from the street inward. I don't understand how I've never reviewed Bonchon! It's the first KFC I tried, the OG - and the best, hands down. We've sampled others in the area but always end up back at Bonchon, mostly for the soy garlic fried chicken. Generally we get a wings/drumstick combo for the family. Soy garlic is great for anyone averse to spice, though my family usually wants half/half spicy. Last time I tried the new Korean BBQ flavor, and it adds a little spice (but not too much) and a bit of tang, also. I love the pickled daikon, though my family usually wants some cole slaw too (which I find meh, personally). We often add an order of Jap chae, which is decent. If we are eating in (seldom) we might add fries or pajeong (pancake), but those don't hold up to takeout so I haven't had them lately. Atmosphere is pretty bare, with TVs usually playing sports. Anyway, for KFC, don't go to the others (unless you like some other weird flavors, like honey or parmesan), just get Bonchon! read more

I am a huge fan of soy garlic and have to get this flavor all the time. It is had so much umami and flavor. The wings were pretty big and juicy, so a small was good enough for 2 people. You also can't go wrong with the seasoned fries. The food was ready so fast that we were probably in the restaurant for a total of like 25 minutes. We looked for a spot for lunch on a holiday Monday, and they were open with a lot of seating available. We got the combo with soy garlic and spicy, seasoned fries, and tteokbokki. The chicken has a hard layer of batter that is well coated with sauce. Biting into it gives a satisfying crunch. Only bad thing is after a while, you realize that all you're eating is a bunch of batter, even though it tastes delicious and has all the flavoring. The meat itself is juicy and tender enough to easily fall off the bone. Both flavors of chicken are good, but I prefer soy garlic. Soy garlic has a sweet taste to it, while spicy was just straight up spicy. It could have been because it was super hot, but I couldn't really eat the spicy one because it hurt lol. The fries are fine. They are crunchy and flavorful, topped with what tasted like cheese. The tteokbokki has some good and bad to it. The tteok is soft and chewy; perfect. It came with rice cakes and what may have been carrots and onions, and two fried vermicelli rolls on top. These are good. The sauce however is more like soup; a big bowl of red soup that was super watery. There is a mild taste of your typical tteokbokki flavor, and it wasn't spicy. read more
