Original Gyudon Beef Bowl® with Veggie
    Jonathan C.

Haven't been here in a long time, maybe 10+ years, but I happened to drive by and decided to stop in for a quick lunch. Overall, it was a solid experience. The beef was tender and had good flavor, which was definitely the highlight. The veggies could have used a bit more seasoning, but they were still decent. All in all, it's a good spot if you're looking for a quick and satisfying lunch!

My rating here is for the quality that this Yoshinoya serves within the Yoshinoya chain and compared to many other fast casual restaurants. I've been to Yoshinoyas in SoCal (where there is competition every other block) and this is store is still amongst the top Yoshi that I've been to overall. The food is meant to be Asian bento fast food, and if you go in expecting that, then there is very good bang for buck value here. Servers are all nice, and their cheap milk tea is really good for the price as well!

    Karaage and Beef

I was driving by and seen Yoshinoya. It's been many-many moon since I've been to one. So I stopped and when I went in, it was nostalgic. I first went to Yoshinoya in Los Angeles in my teens. It was good back then. They had one in SF that I tried too. However, they all closed down except for this one in the South Bay. Food was just edible. It wasn't bad or it wasn't great I guess my taste buds have changed a lot since my teens. Would I go back? Probably, over McDonald, Jack in the Box, Taco Bell, etc. I do plan on going back to get that Karaage though.

    Chicken teriyaki bowl

I was looking for a quick spot to grab lunch that isn't fast food and came across Yoshinoya. It's located at the corner of Stevens Creek and North Portal. It has a decent sized parking lot. The menu is simple, almost similar to Sarku Japan menu. They offer four sizes, bowl, large, combo and combo XL. All their sizes come with mixed veggies, your choice of protein, noodles or rice. I opted for a bowl, udon and chicken teriyaki, total $11. Sauce options were soy and ginger. The bowl was sufficient with 4 slices of teriyaki chicken. The chicken wasn't dry or overly sauced. The skin was pleasant to eat. The ginger added a palette cleanser in between bites of the udon and chicken. The udon was cooked al dente. The bowl is a perfect size for anyone watching their food servings. The bowl may look like it's meant for kids but it's fulfilling. The staff were efficient, I didn't wait too long for my food and there is a designated online pick-up order area. There are several dining tables as well.

3.5 rounded up. I've never had Yoshinoya before, but am a big fan of Gyudon. I've also driven past this establishment for so many years (I can't be the only one!) despite it being the only Yoshinoya location in the entire SF Bay Area. At an attempt to try new things, I stopped by for my first time and was pleasantly surprised at the value and taste. They definitely use a nice thin cut of beef that resembles gyudon, though some pieces can be more on the stringy side. They also have fried chicken (Tokyo chicken is what I think they call it) for $3.50 but had over 6 pieces, a really great deal! Dining in can be tough because it's really hot and no AC. Download their app for really great deals and rewards. Edit: One more thing, their milk tea boba is terrible. Like it's not even worth it if they give you one for free (which they do in the app). Save yourself from that experience and just grab milk tea boba from somewhere else in Cupertino, there are a lot better places!

Came in today and got the combo bowl and the meat portioned seemed way smaller than last time

I ordered takeout, where's my chicken???????? I didn't get any chicken. After eating half of it, I realized it was all beef.

Randomly had a craving for Yoshinoya after not having it in years! I got a combo with 2 proteins: chicken teriyaki and original beef gyudon. It comes with rice and vegetables. Service was efficient - my order was ready within 2 minutes! Although it's considered fast food, you can't go wrong because it's delicious, affordable (my total was $12.97 including tax), and they give huge portions (lasted me for 2 meals).

I've been eating at Yoshinoya since 1980 and I still crave the beef bowl to this day. The beef is thinly sliced, tons of flavor with Japanese style rice. I got even better, there's a new Tokyo fried chicken, which is chicken karaage. It's very good! I have karaage at many authentic Japanese restaurants, and no kidding, Yoshinoya's version is delicious! I was impressed. The gyoza was average and spring rolls just ok. Order from the app and get promo and specials. You earn points for free stuff. Ask for free extra beef sauce if you like extra juiciness.

I got the Kiwami Vegan extra spicy and my friend got the Kiwami Tonkotsu spicy (adding spice costs 50c more) and we received our food after 20 minutes. Kiwami Vegan (5/5): This was delicious! The curry broth and the plant based meat were well seasoned and the yuzu gave the dish a nice citrus kick. I love spicy food and usually feel like ramen is not spicy enough, but this was the perfect level. Noodles were tasty and there was a good noodle to soup ratio. My friend gave the Kiwami Tonkotsu a 4/5 and said it could be a bit more flavorful. She tried some of my Kiwami Vegan and said she would order that next time instead Overall, amazing vegan ramen! Although there isn't a vegetarian option, the vegan option is plenty flavorful on its own and I didn't feel like I was missing anything. Ramen Hajime now joins Marufuku Ramen in my list of favorite ramen shops in the bay. I would definitely return!

Being a broth lover, I can assess the authenticity of a ramen place by tonkotsu broth. And this place really does an excellent job in delivering a savory fatty bowl of tonkotsu ramen. I also added duck breast to mine. $6 for 4 pieces of duck breast is actually no bad of a deal, especially considering the quality of the duck breast slices. They were not super thick, but got enough bite in there for you to enjoy the texture of the duck meat. It was not overdone and did not lead to a less than desired rough sandy texture. Rather, it was possibly slightly undercooked. The skin was intact and the fattiness from duck skin just brought so much joy to every bite. I savored every bit of that in silence. Service was good, servers were attentive enough. Make sure to go in and put your name down on the tablet device. Do not wait outside "in a line" cuz they only call people by the tablet.

The flavor profile is deeply reminiscent of a HK pork chop baked rice if juicy pork meatballs were used. The service is always friendly here and our food came out quickly! My only minor gripe was the pacing as we had 3 dishes on our small square table at one point in the meal. I understand though, since they clearly had a busy night ahead as the restaurant filled up quickly after 7:30 PM. Ambience is kind of loud due to the chatter and closely spaced tables. They really try to maximize the seating here. Make sure you wear socks in case you end up being seated in the carpet area.

On top of that, while we were still eating, they brought us the bill halfway through the meal. We ordered our favorite appetizer first and then placed the rest of our order. There were both a female and a male server, and neither of them made us feel welcome at all. The male server did not write anything down while taking our order and barely responded when I spoke. He gave no acknowledgment whatsoever, so I honestly could not tell whether he even heard me. It felt like the staff simply wanted us to leave as quickly as possible because the restaurant closes at 8 PM. We even rushed through our meal and made sure to leave before 8 PM out of consideration for the staff, yet we were still treated like an inconvenience the entire time. What shocked me the most was the hygiene issue. The black-haired female server at the counter near the entrance dropped a small stainless steel basket used for checks onto the floor, stepped on it with her shoe, then picked it up with her hands and placed it back without cleaning or sanitizing it. After that, she never washed or sanitized her hands, yet continued touching napkins, utensils, and setting tables. That is completely unacceptable, especially in a restaurant. To make things worse, my husband ordered a soju cocktail, and the male server placed the alcoholic drink directly in front of me even though I am visibly 9 months pregnant with a very large baby bump. He said nothing and walked away. Not once did the staff say "enjoy your meal" when serving our food. They never checked on our table even once afterward, and we never received any water or napkin refills. The only time the male server came back was after cleaning the restroom to tell us the kitchen was closing. If customers arriving after 7 PM are such an inconvenience, then please put a sign on the door telling people not to come in after that time. And most importantly, please teach your staff proper hygiene and basic customer service. This was one of the most unwelcoming and unsanitary dining experiences I have ever had.

First, I made a reservation on yelp but forgot to mention it to my friends. I was the second to arrive and my friend was already seated so I joined her. Later the server came by asking if we had a reservation which I said I did, then she complained in Chinese to my friend "I asked you earlier and you had said No. I had set up the table for it already". I found it pretty rude since the restaurant was half empty and just because she had the utensils and water out, shouldn't be a big deal. My second issue is that I ordered explicitly with "no wasabi and no green onions". Then, of course my sushi roll came with full of green onions on top. I said "I asked for no green onions" and the server said "but this is already made", expecting me to just accept it as is. My friends all heard me clearly ask when I ordered too. I said firmly that I would like it remade, which then they brought it back and I saw the original server who took the order glare at me and gestured towards me. This was ridiculous treatment. The food was not good either. I tried the Salmon Lover Roll ($17) and Sake Nigiri ($8). The salmon nigiri was a joke because as you can see from the photo it was tearing and falling apart. It was also cut so thick which just felt very unrefined. Thicker fish is good to a degree but it was too extreme and made me think it was due to lack of skill from the sushi chef. The salmon roll was not great either because the salmon skin in the middle was coated so much I just tasted the coating and not the fish anymore.
