This place is basically like Chicken Meets Rice, but with a little bit more of a modern twist. I would say they have fewer sauce options, but it's equally as good and yummy. I like the soups here a lot. The portion sizes are basically the same as the other spots, but the presentation is a little bit different. It's a really great place for a quick lunch! I usually get the Hainanese chicken with the leg pieces, skin on. The crispy chicken is really good too, though.
Great food with nice people. Was part of the tear down crew for the World Cup at Levi and was happy they had a rooster and rice nearby. My go to is the cutlet. Crispy, delicious and flavorful. Love the soup/broth that comes with it. Small location but, still clean and organized. The Hat Yao looks really good too but I couldn't wait the extra 10 minutes because I was pressed for time in my lunch, but will try next time.
I ordered work lunch from here through a company delivery service. I ordered a mini vegetarian, which is supposed to come with tofu and vegetables, but they did not give me the vegetables. They also randomly gave me the ginger scallion sauce instead of the default KMG sauce, and I did not really enjoy the ginger scallion sauce. The vegetarian broth was not very good, tasted oddly oily and not very flavorful. Tofu and rice were nothing special. Thai sriracha hot sauce was quite good. I would be willing to give this place another try in the future, I suspect the KMG sauce is actually pretty good, but unfortunately I did not get to try today.

This rice paired so well with the chicken and I drenched my chicken in the scallion sauce Definitely a clean plate if that is something you are looking for!
I was in the area and decided to try their poached chicken. We've been ordering from a different chain since we discovered the dish, and wanted to try Rooster & Rice version. The chicken is more bland by itself compared to the other one where we've been getting. It also felt overcooked and dryer. The sauces are great. It saved the experience. Their pricing is a bit higher by around a dollar for the items. They do have other dishes and sides on the menu that might be worth a try in case I'm around the area again. They do have only a couple of tables indoors for waiting. But they have a nice covered outdoor patio that's relaxing and just lowkey ambiance.
Instead of trying a Rooster and Rice close to my office in the OC, I decided to try one almost 400 miles away near my hotel in Santa Clara. Like others have said, the chicken is kind and bland, and a little dry. The ginger scallion sauce was good and was a good condiment for the chicken. The portion was pretty good sized. It's a good place if your hotel is close by.
Original doesn't come with ginger scallion sauce, I wish I had known that when ordering. Garlic soy isn't bad though. Soup however was kinda sour and didn't taste clean or clear like you'd expect. I've been to rooster rice but different locations and had no issues. It's been a few years and thought I'd try it again craving chicken and rice. This will probably be the only time I go to this location. I feel there are better options out there. It is convenient though
Came again during weekday for a quick lunch. Khao Tom Kai chicken porridge was so good, very flavorful with the soft boiled egg and chicken skin crisps. It was only $5 with purchase of any meal. They also have happy hour 2-5pm weekdays with 25% off the entire menu.
Service was good but the food was disappointing. This franchise location is not up to par in quality with the San Francisco location. My chicken was unappealing and was very bland. It's a small quiet place, we were the only customers at this location when we ate there.
Definitely had a greater experience this time around! I ordered two originals, one with skin and one without. I do like that you can customize it a bit - for example, no skin, substitute sauce, type of rice, only chicken breast or thigh, etc. Didn't really have any complaints about either one - it was prepared and put together nicely and had a good amount of rice and chicken and I was satisfied! Also, the ginger and scallion sauce is a must for me! I'm glad I remembered to substitute it this time. It comes with a broth which is flavorful and nicely adds to the meal.
This place had a pop up event in Hawaii and it was super packed we couldnt get to try. So when we were in NorCal, we found out it was located out here. The food was really good, the taste and the sauces were flavorful. The people working there was super nice.
Foremost, every time I visit this location I've received great customer service. The staff greet you and seem very friendly. The place is clean and has outdoor seating. The chairs are colorful so it feels vibrant. I ordered The Original and Popcorn chicken for pickup. The Original had a few dry bits, but I dipped it in the ginger sauce so gave it so much more flavor, so of the two I think the popcorn chicken was my favorite. There's a hint of lime flavor with the popcorn chicken, something that was new to me. A side of lime aioli is included as well for dipping. Highly recommend visiting this place.
Yum!! Perfect when you're hungry and at the mall. Walk past the notorious lines at Ramen Nagi next door and make your way to Rooster & Rice for a tasty, comforting meal. My go to is the classic #1. It's perfect and simple. The portions are generous and the service is fast and friendly. Ask for their hot sauce.
Keen to try this place, as I love chicken and rice. Gotta have the OG, for comparison and as a baseline. The chicken was tender and juicy. Ginger scallion sauce was on point. My friend had the cutlet, which looked good. We sat in the covered outdoor seating area. Water is self serve. Our food was delivered to us, great service. I'd come back again, for sure. read more

I stopped in to Rooster & Rice for lunch. They are located in a small strip mall by Mission Jr College and Great America. The parking lot can be challenging during peak lunch hour because of all the wonderful restaurants in this strip. It's a corner restaurant with limited seating inside and a outdoor shaded patio area. Only one unisex restroom. The service is friendly and welcoming. The Original: breast & thigh with skin, fragrant chicken rice, cucumber, cliantro, KMG sauce, side of chicken broth (3/5). The chicken was tender and the portion size was decent, as opposed to competitor, CMR. My complaint is that they charge you $2 extra for the ginger scallion sauce. Also, the rice was not as fragrant and the chicken broth was bland. I'd be back to try their other food options. read more

Great spot for a delicious meal. Rooster and Rice has chicken and rice plates. They actually have a lot of options - boiled or fried chicken? Have it on a salad? Brown rice? Breast or thigh, or both? The chicken and rice are cooked in this delicious broth, and you get extra sauces to throw on top. You can also add hotter sauce if you desire. This is a cute little place with a bit of indoor/outdoor seating. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I think overall a very nice experience of a fast and wholesome meal! read more

I ordered work lunch from here through a company delivery service. I ordered a mini vegetarian, which is supposed to come with tofu and vegetables, but they did not give me the vegetables. They also randomly gave me the ginger scallion sauce instead of the default KMG sauce, and I did not really enjoy the ginger scallion sauce. The vegetarian broth was not very good, tasted oddly oily and not very flavorful. Tofu and rice were nothing special. Thai sriracha hot sauce was quite good. I was looking for a place for lunch in Valley Fair and decided to go with Rooster & Rice. I love Khao Mun Gai/Hainan Chicken Rice in general, so I was excited to finally give them a try. I decided to go with The Original and it came with chicken broth on the side. The portions were good and the flavors for the rice were there. The sauce was flavorful and the chicken was tender. We came to this eatery because it had a short line (almost everything else had a 30 min wait). We ended up getting the Original, Tom Yum Thai fries and the chicken wings. The chicken itself? SO SO GOOD! You won't find dry chicken here! The sauces are pretty good too. My favorite was the pineapple habenero that came with the chicken wings. The Original kinda tasted like Filipino tinola. -2 because if you want extra sauce, that's gonna cost you $2. If you want a water cup, you can, but it's room temp. read more
I ordered the Original with just chicken thighs (additional $1), and added extra cucumbers since the option was there. I thought the dish as pretty filling and a good portion for the price. I enjoyed washing down the meal with the chicken brown. I also tried the Cutlet, which is a panko crust chicken thigh. The chicken was pretty crispy, and the portion was good enough. My favorite chicken and rice restaurant!! Even though Rooster & Rice is a chain, they have amazing chicken and rice. Food: I always order the Original (Breast & thigh with skin, fragrant chicken rice, cucumber, cilantro, KMG sauce), but substitute for all breast and no skin. Chicken is never dry and it comes with a chicken broth soup on the side. The sauce is so flavorful, and the meal is filling. I don't feel gross after eating this which is a plus. Service: Service is decent! The line wasn't long when we came, but they have a self-service kiosk to order at. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I have had them disregard my no skin or all breast requests before, but this does not happen every time. Pricing: $ Good price for lots of food. I normally get 2 meals out of it. Ambiance: A lot of seating and not too packed compared to other places in the mall. It is definitely the best food in Valley Fair if you don't want to wait. Tables were clean. Parking: Park in the Winchester parking garage for closest parking! Will definitely be back to this location. :) read more

Went here because the neighboring food inside the mall were quite busy. Ordered on an iPad, the food took a little while to come out even though there were only 1-2 other customers. I think this is tastier than I expected. Hat Yai Thai Fried Chicken was good. I wish there were cucumbers or greens of some sort to balance out the heartiness. The Khao Tom Gai soup was pretty salty. Would be good for when youre sick and can't taste much haha! Overall I enjoyed it and thought the pricing was fair for what it is. read more
I really love rooster and rice but for some reason, every time I ask for no skin or any sort of modifications, it seems to be ignored or taken very lightly. This time I asked for no skin for one order and both our orders came with skin. We also asked for extra cilantro but the amount looks the same in both. This is probably the 5th time this has happened and not just for this location but all their other ones. Also not sure why the sauces are different. One is the soybean sauce that it usually comes with and the other one is the traditional ginger oil sauce. I love the food but just disappointed with the service and lack of quality with prepping it to our customizations. read more

Chicken and rice is one of my go-to comfort meals. The closer location to me, in north SJ closed awhile ago so I rarely make it here anymore. Since my hubby was at the mall, I asked him to pick me up some lunch from here. For $15, the Original (#1) comes with dark and white meat, some chicken skin, over the chicken rice and some slices of cucumbers. Also there's a soy ginger sauce. I usually don't like or need the sauce with Hainan or KMG chicken. But this sauce was pretty tasty and I've had a knack for all things ginger right now. Oh and a cup of chicken broth. The portion size was just right for me. I finished it up real quick and was fully satisfied and not too full. The chicken was boneless and tasty and tender and flavorful. I ate the white meat first, as I prefer the dark meat. There was a bit of tendon and cartilage on the chicken meat, which doesn't bother me, but FYI, if you're turned off by that. The rice is also super yummy. I need to learn how to make chicken broth rice. Haha. And the cucumbers add a fresh and crunchy texture to the whole meal. The chicken broth is slightly oily but goes well with the whole meal. Overall a very satisfying meal. read more
Love coming to This restaurant in the mall for something fast and yummy. The hainan ordinal chicken is my favorite. I enjoyed my classic order here if the #1 hainan chicken, comes with plenty if chicken and rice, just wish they gave more sauce bc one wasnt enough. I got the savory garlic one and bf got the sweet chili so had some of his. He got the fried one and didnt look like as much meat but looked crispy which he likes. read more

If you looked at my order picture, I only got one tiny piece of cilantro and 4 pieces of cucumbers with no extra skin. I ordered fried chicken on my lunch break today and I got to the middle of the chicken leg and realized it was RAW. Be cautious while dining here because they are not properly cooking the food! I'm praying I don't get salmonella poisoning after eating half the leg. read more
Came here for quick lunch. The food is generally good but soup (chicken broth) was too salty and portion was smaller than I thought. I wished they would give more veggies (have to pay extra for it..) I ordered mixed of chicken breast and thigh, thigh was tender and good but breast was too dry. The sauce was tasty with ginger & garlic soy flavor. Chicken rice was what I liked the best from this place, but again portion is small. You order using tablet and it's all self service. Came on weekday lunch so had plenty of seating too. If you need quick lunch without any wait could be good option. read more
