There was a worker that was supeeeer nice today. He was heading out the door right as we were going in, and he held the door open for us and welcomed us in. Left kiosk wasn't working but the right one was. The food was made relatively quickly and tasted good. My favorite is still the Thai chicken salad. I tried the chicken chop today and it was fine, very crispy and lots of ingredients. I wish the price was a little cheaper, it's a bit pricey for a salad, but I understand the salads have a variety of ingredients in it. I also appreciated how fast they were and they had a good amount of workers working so that could explain the price as well. We missed the parking lot entrance and ended up parking next door and just walking over. read more

A great Bay Area chicken place to satisfy all of your chicken cravings. I went with the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and the jumbo chicken bites. I was planning to eat this in a later time and they were helpful to deconstruct everything for me and separate all of the sauces so that I can make it myself at a later time. Definitely get the star sauce, which is their number one claim to fame. Chicken was nice and crispy, but also tender at the same time and pretty decent portion size is for what you're paying for. I pre-ordered ahead of time on the app and I like that it literally shows you step-by-step your order being handled and made and also when it's ready. I love chicken sandwiches and I wanted to try their classic chicken sandwich :) The sandwich was surprisingly really TASTY!! They put a massive tender into the sandwich with fresh tomatoes and a slaw with a really good dressing. To be honest, the dressing was the best part of the slaw, and it carried a lot of the flavor in the sandwich. The chicken was juicy, tender, and crispy!! I really enjoyed it! Revisited StarFish in Sunnyvale to see if the food quality issue I mentioned in my previous two review in different store was specific to the location or a broader problem. I ordered the same Chicken Parm Crispy Chicken Sandwich, and I'm happy to report the quality was totally different this time. The chicken inside the sandwich was finally warm and hot--exactly how it should be! I also tried the Truffle Fries and Rainbow Slaw. The Rainbow Slaw was fresh and flavorful, way better than the slaw I've had from other chain restaurants. As for the fries, I forgot to request "no cheese" when ordering, and the cheese had a very strong smell that wasn't for me. Thankfully, the staff was super friendly and replaced them with a new batch right away--really appreciated their understanding and great service! Pro tip: If you're not a fan of cheese, make sure to ask for the fries without it when ordering. The restaurant environment was clean and well-maintained. I saw a kid make a mess on the floor, and the staff cleaned it up immediately--big kudos to them for staying on top of things! However, the online ordering process was disappointing. I tried applying a reward to my order, but it kept returning an error with no explanation. Definitely something that needs improvement. Starbird is me and my friend's spot. We've been to a few locations, and this stop was totally unplanned. We had just split something for lunch, but he wasn't happy, and all he has to do is see a Starbird and he's sold. I'm not a huge fan because I think it's expensive for two people, even with the rewards, but we swung by this location so he could grab something quick. He went with his go-to, the Nashville Hot wings. I have to say, this location seemed pretty busy but the food didn't take long at all to come out, I'd say it was under 10 minutes. The wings were great! I also noticed that this location doesn't force you to order on your own like I feel they do at some of the other spots, which was a nice change. It was now Winter in the Bay Area, and this particular late afternoon (05JAN2026) it was ¡WET! I had stowed our HPVs (her upright and my "FrankenBike") under a stout tarp and we were motoring from our most favorite #1 grandchildren in the pouring rain (I even put the wipers on low) when I felt the hankering for chicken. A week before, I had cycled to this eatery and found it full of customers enjoying, to my surprise, cooked chicken. I didn't have time to queue up for a meal, but resolved to return in the future. It was in this downpour that seemed a good thing to do--the torrential weather would reduce the wait time. Parking in the small lot was good--plenty of open spaces. I (gimp)walked up the ramp and entered the nearly vacant super clean space, pleased to not be in a queue. Sure enough, I was the only person inside other than the cashier & chef. Now my concern was deciding upon the specific dish; finally choosing the Starbird 2.0 sandwich only--not the meal that included fries and a drink. The pleasant cashier quickly had my selection bagged and ready to go, and my credit card completed the transaction. After collecting numerous napkins, I returned to our (motor)vehicle and my much better half, who had patiently waited for me. Once back at our apartment, I finally got a look at my purchase. It was exactly as promised, crispy chicken slices between two buns, along with a small pile of veggies & sauce. I love Starbird and have been coming here for several years. It's a super tasty fried chicken place with lots of fun fresh options. My favorite is their Nashville hot chicken on an Elote or chopped salad but there's plenty of other items as well. It's easy to order through the app (and get rewards this way too!!) and pick up or each there in the small dining area or patio. My only sadness is that there no closer locations to Reno/Tahoe. The chicken is always crispy, and the ingredients used in their salads always look and taste fresh. My go-tos are the classic crispy tenders, sweet Thai glazed tenders, and Thai chicken salad. Their season specials tend to be really good too. I just tried the lemon garlic tenders, and really enjoyed both the lemon sauce on the tenders and the garlic aioli to dip them in. Over the summer, they had a Cali Mediterranean salad that was delicious, and I wish they would bring it back! Our total for two people was with small tip was $47.28 The service was good placing the order at the counter, we didn't use the self service kiosk. I felt the chicken tenders were a bit too salty. The portions were reasonable, but not mind blowing. The overall flavor of the tenders was just ok. No better than Popeyes. The salad was ok, but the vegetables felt and tasted a bit aged, not super crispy or fresh. There was also way too much cubed Jicama which detracted from the overall taste making it a bit sour. The truffle fries were decent, as were the nice selection of fountain drinks. I'd say overall for a place that has made its mission to be a disrupter in the chicken space, again, it was not mind blowing as we anticipated it should be. The store itself wasn't that clean either, making our first experience just ok. I think I'm being generous with three stars, but it's barely a three star experience. I asked the staff about the menu as I noticed that their chicken wings aren't marked as gluten free nor are their churros, but their chicken nuggets, tenders and fries are marked as gluten free. I have Celiac and depend on accurate information to make safe choices when eating as I can consume NO gluten whatsoever. Not even a crumb. The staff completely struggled through answering if they used a shared fryer or not. The fries are cooked in a shared fryer with churros. Cooking fries in the same fryer with the oil that has been used to cook churros is like claiming that cooking pasta in water used to boil shellfish is safe for people with a shellfish allergy. The staff member said if he had Celiac he wouldn't risk it. This same staff member said that they use a shared fryer but the chefs do something to make it gluten free, which is simply not possible unless they're changing the oil and scrubbing down the fryer between orders, which isn't a thing. Another staff member chimed in saying that they use a shared fryer for the wings and the tenders, but that it's okay because they cook the wings in the morning first. What? Not only would that guarantee that the oil is contaminated, they're precooking wings? Either this restaurant is falsely advertising gluten free items (people who can't consume aren't "friendly" to gluten) putting people who need to eat gluten free for medical reasons at serious risk of injury, or this restaurant has completely failed in training their staff how to explain their product and their safety protocols to customers. He seemed to not have much concern about my experience and gave no apology. I was then told to leave my phone number so the next time I visit I can let the cashier know that I have store credit there for a free meal/item. This just seemed unreliable and I had to ask again and explain that I just want a refund. He replied hesitantly saying it'll take 7-10 days and I told him that's fine. He said ok he can give me a refund and that it'll take 7-10 and then he hung up on me... I called back right away and asked for some sort of confirmation or if it would show credit on my app, he said if I don't see it in 10 days call back.
