Not impressive looking, but a damn tasty sandwich...
    Ty S.

"Mmm... That is a tasty sandwich... Usually I can't get'em cuz my girlfriend is a vegetarian, which makes me one too...but I do love the taste of a good sandwich" Eating "The Melt" sandwich here, makes me think it was like Jules biting into that Big Kahuna burger...always wondering how good that burger was... But short version...the bread...Star of the show. Not too thick, just crispy outside and soft inside, but most importantly the right amount of bread ration to sandwich fillings, 50% or less. It looks relatively small and unimpressive at first, but hot damn, so much flavor going on! Super glad I stopped by randomly!

Tri Tip French Dip - DELICIOUS but so so cheesy

This was super good food. Delicious meat, the bread was so fresh and has great texture. I really liked the sweet potato fries but the Mac and cheese while good wasn't my favorite. It was more soupy than I wanted. The sandwich had a ton of cheese but it was delicious all the same.

Solid sandwich place in Mountain View with excellent service! Came here to pick up sandwiches to eat on a hike. I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich.. and wow, they really do know how to make a sandwich spicy but flavorful! Be prepared for it to be a little messy. I like that you can choose the bread to get it on as well; I got it on sourdough, but they have other options like dutch crunch! I do wish the sandwich had a bit more of the other toppings, but it was still delicious nonetheless. When we checked out, they also gave us 3 cookies on the house: 1 chocolate chip and 2 peanut butter cookies. Super nice of them and showed me that they cared for their customers. I'd love to try some of their other sandwich options next time I'm back!

    Don's Original Tri-Tip

3/13/24 The Don's Deli 2105 Old Middlefield Rd Mountain View, CA 94043 I was in the area so I stopped in at around noon on a Wednesday. It's a small sandwich shop in a strip mall at the corner of Rengstorff and Old Middlefield Way. Parking was okay for the small mall with two rows of spaces. It was busy with many people waiting to pick up their orders. Don't plan on eating in, I counted 7 chairs for the 3 small tables. I ordered Don's Original Tri-Tip on Sour Dough. The sandwich was hefty with a good amount of thinly sliced beef with a subtle teriyaki flavor. The quality of the meat was good with no fat and tender (for Tri-Tip). It was a little chewy but I expected that. It was soaked with dressing and messy, don't attempt to eat in your car. You order and pay at the register and wait for your name to be called. The sandwich was tasty and a good value. It's repeatable.

Long day traveling and we were hungry. My belly is being loud so we stopped by The Don's Deli We entered and were warmly greeted. The insides aren't fancy but its clean without being sterile. The menu is on the wall and east to read. This so important when you are trying to function on three hours sleep Back to the menu- So many options to try and all sounded delicious. I opted for the falafel salad because we also had dinner plans. So glad i did. The salad was large- i couldn't finish it. I really appreciated the dressing on the side. The falafels were crisp on outside and fluffy on inside. Quite flavorful. The dressing i selected was cilantro lime and we also got a sample of spicy ranch plus another one i can't recall the name of. Really good stuff The sandwiches looked tasty two but my son and husband scarfed them down. Definitely worth returning to

Chick Chick Curry with cilantro lime ranch Assorted Cookie Daily special sandwich: Horsing around w vegan chicken nuggets with fire sauce

Amazing and unique sandwiches! Fresh, pretty quick service and super filling loaded up w a variety of toppings. Definitely worth the price point. Dutch crunch bread was really good, crunchy and soft, and the fire sauce in the chick chick curry was spicy. Would recommend the cilantro lime ranch to cool it down and a tangy kick! Cookie was great too- shout out to the location for the cookie on the house :) Few tables in the shop to dine in, would def recommend picking it up and taking a sandwich from here on picnic!!

    Sweet Potato Fries
    Quoc H.

Takeout order: 7/10 Chicken Caesar Salad $11.49 - average Caesar salad with rotisserie chicken meat. Chicken was juicy, shredded, and pretty similar to Costco chicken. Cheese and lettuce were fresh. Balsamic vinaigrette was actually really good. Not too sour and sweet here. 7/10 Sweet potato fries $5.49 - average fries but expensive for price! Came soggy in container but I like that they were large cut.

They have the ULTIMATE SANDWICH in the area. Fresh bread, right amount of mayo, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and onion. I also order the Caesar salad but it's just ok. The service is good and fast. But no restroom at the deli so I have to go Nextdoor to order a bag of chip and use the restroom there.

The chip selection is a standout -- more than 10 flavors of Kettle Brand chips, plus guac and salsa chips. If you like options, you'll appreciate the variety. And the drink selection? Packed. Soft drinks, a wide range of local beers, and more choices than most convenience stores. On top of that, they serve café drinks and Dreyer's ice cream -- so you can grab coffee, lunch, snacks, and dessert all in one stop. Clean, well-stocked, and clearly run with attention to detail. Hence why I stopped here one warm late afternoon despite having lots of food options in this downtown-y area. The Godfather ($15ish/5*) When I first try a deli I will usually try their Italian combo. It's a classic sub I love but honestly I find it hard to find an above average one. I'm not sure if the art of making one has been lost, but within the last decade or so, I strike out more than I get hits. Usually the meat to bread to produce ratio is off. Sometimes the meats are too salty/poor quality. Other times the sauce/dressing flavor is off. I am so stoked that I found a legit one here. They use prosciutto, mortadella and salami here, all my faves. I hate when a place uses American ham/cheese on an Italian sub. And all the meats are of quality, not too salty at all. Provolone was the cheese, textbook. I chose a sourdough roll and even though requires a good amount of teeth strength to bite off a piece and to chew, it was pretty damn satisfying. The interior is soft yet chewy. They definitely use a solid bread company. The bites were what I consider to be classic Italian sub flavors. No curve balls like pesto, red peppers or strong mustard. Just quality meats with great textures, fresh produce dressed in oil n' vinegar so it taste like a good salad. And the kicker that pleasantly surprised me were chunks of marinated artichoke hearts so this made you feel like biting into an antipasto platter just in sandwich form. So Damn Solid. Italian Sausage Sandwich ($15ish/4*). Even though solid I didn't love this as much as the cold sub. They ask what type of sausage mild or hot Italian. Chose hot, no surprise. They said this will take longer to make, like about 10 minutes. I chose a regular sweet French roll for this. Not as chewy as the sourdough roll, much softer but still has body. I liked the flavors of warm marinara with their unique sausage, quite classic once again. But the sausage they use is super thick like twice as thick as a common Italian sausage link. They do split it so it covers the bread but that sausage is one of the firmest textures I've ever had for a sausage. Sausage by nature because of the grind usually bites easily. Not here, I had to bite so hard that the meat couldn't stay in the bread. I think the casing was unusually tough for some reason. I eventually peeled it off. Decent flavors but problematic to eat cleanly. $35+ (after T&T) for 2 sandwiches seems pricey but really it is the new reality. 10 years ago this would have been about $20ish. I ordered the Godfather, which is supposed to be their specialty, and it was very disappointing. The meats seemed old, extremely fatty, and so chewy that I was unable to swallow them. Every meat on the sandwich was fatty, including the mortadella, which was unusually greasy and unlike anything I've seen before. The texture made the sandwich very unpleasant to eat. It also made me question whether the meats had been stored properly, though I can't say for sure. The bread was average and didn't seem very fresh either. Maybe going later in the day means the ingredients have been sitting too long, but either way, this sandwich was difficult to enjoy and ended up in the trash.
