Side of Fries Mac and cheese Bread
Jess B.

This is a solid spot if you're craving chicken late night. Parking is a bit limited and the place itself is kind of small, but there is seating both inside and outside, which helps. Portion sizes are definitely a highlight. We ordered the 5 tenders with mac and cheese, bread, and fries, and it was more than enough to split between two people. Good value for how much food you get. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Fries were alright; my husband and I just wanted it slightly crispier but seasoning was good. Mac and cheese was good. Loved the cheese and pasta was cooked well. Food came out fairly quickly, though the service itself was just okay, nothing standout but not bad either.

Just to get some of the not so great things about Chicken G out of the way; it's not a very sanitary place, and it's not at all a fancy place at all. However, if you want a lot of food for ~ 15 bucks, then Chicken G is the place. The chicken is so tender here, and it's a fun place to just hang out after Volleyball. It's deserving of a 5 star rating! Keep up the good food!

Big G with seasoned fries

Came here for a quick takeout order on a Sunday around 2pm and there were a few customers eating inside, but no line! Not a whole lot of seating options inside, so more of a casual quick bite or takeout place! ~the food~ - The Big G (~$15) : HUGE fried chicken sandwich! The fried chicken pieces here are very generous and definitely freshly fried! The chicken was super crispy, juicy, and had great seasoning/flavors! It was a bit oily, but hey it's a fried chicken sandwich lol the sandwiches comes with your choice of a side, and we went with the seasoned fries which was also super hot and fresh! ~parking~ there's a small parking lot behind the shop, but also plenty of street parking around the area! ~overall~ it took about 10-15mins for our food to be ready after we ordered since they cook everything fresh! overall, i think this is a great takeout spot for fried chicken! i will definitely be back to maybe try their fried chicken platter!

Loaded G fries

I got the loaded g fries, which comes with some pieces of chicken. While the flavor was there, the whole thing was too heavy for me so I got full pretty fast. I ended up taking at least half home. The portion is huge - definitely shareable. Most of the chicken pieces I ate felt more like the fried skin, and not the meat itself. The fries were great when freshly made, but not that amazing once it cooled down. I'd suggest sticking with their chicken sandwiches instead. I tried a few bites of my fiancé's sandwich and it was very flavorful, juicy, and huge.

It was a late night. I didn't have too many places to eat at because everything's closed. Luckily, a place called Chicken G's was open near me. When we got there we noticed it had its own parking lot in the back, bathrooms not in the restauraunt, and about 5 tables of seating. The inside looks like your typical american diner. On walls they put "This isn't fast food, it's fresh", to let us know that it will take time to make our food. We decided to order the naughty sandwich. One thing that really stood out to me was that the cashier wiped our table before we sat down. Really didn't expect that, a nice little touch. When the sandwich came, I was floored. This thing was HUGE. I literally couldn't even fit it in my mouth in 1 bite, I had to chip at it bit by bit. but oh man, it definitely did not disappoint- it was craaaazy juicy, with a nice spicy kick from the serranos. The crispiness and juiciness really blew me away- it's like a tier above other fried chicken (buttermilk style, so don't compare it to nashville). When we asked the cashier for more peppers, he really hooked us up- he gave us a tray of them! I was so amazed because I was just not expecting them to actually fill our outrageous request. The fries were pretty good, but I was so full from the chicken I ended up taking most of them home. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone and I'll for sure be coming back when my fried chicken craving hits again!

I really wanted to like this place. I have friends who come here often, and I currently live nearby. But after a few tries, I think Chicken G's isn't right for me. Starting with the pros. The service is typically fast and friendly. You do get a lot of bang for your buck, as the servings are generous. And, when I taste the chicken, I can tell it's well-seasoned, flavorful, and made-to-order. But, I just think the fried chicken is just way too heavy & oily. The breading is excessive, as my mouth dries before I get to the chicken underneath. The sides, like the fries and coleslaw, are also average. While I appreciate Chicken G's and acknowledge some like what's offered, I feel there are better places for fried chicken, even for halal customers.

The Big G and The G Meal
Janni Linea B.

Came here on a Monday afternoon. It wasn't very busy, but the food did take a while to come out. The interior is decent, nothing fancy but it seems like a chill hangout spot, especially since they're open until 1 a.m. We ordered The G Meal, which comes with 4 pieces of chicken (2 thighs, 2 drums), 2 sides, 2 Texas toasts, and house sauces. For our sides, we chose the mac & cheese and fries. Honestly, the sides weren't great. As you can see in the photo, the mac & cheese was clumpy and mushy, and the fries were just okay. The chicken was definitely worth getting tho, super crispy, tender, and juicy. The seasoning was on point you don't even need extra sauce (we didn't even get any house sauces with ours). We also tried The Big G, which is their chicken sandwich with a side. It was so good. My final thoughts: Come here for the chicken and skip the sides.

Food: the classic chicken g burger with side is pure delicious awesomeness!!! The chicken is so juicy and outside is crunchy. I got the coleslaw, yummy but the dressing could be less. The Mac n cheese is also nice and creamy. Definitely fresh made to order. Service: friendly and pretty quick to receive the food! Ambiance: cozy and small. Wish they could turn on ac more during the hot weathers but still bearable. This is our go to place as the quality never disappoints! A safe option!

Friend's Meal with Side of Fries

Got here right when they opened and the fryers probably had to reach temperature because the wait was about ~25-30 minutes and I was the second customer of the day. Got the friend's platter and the chicken pieces are nicely seasoned and very meaty. The chicken sandwich is a very large portion, however, the chicken to bun ratio is a little skewed as the chicken doesn't really fill the bun properly, some spots there's lots of chicken and other spots lots of bun. The portion sizes for the sides for the friend's platter are very small, but they are good. Cheese sauce on the Mac was a good consistency and flavor, just the ratio of sauce to pasta was a lot. The coleslaw was refreshing and didn't have too much mayo. I would've liked to have tried the sauces with the chicken, but unfortunately, it was forgotten and didn't make it into the bag. Maybe they're more on top of it later in the day. Service was nice and inside has a decent amount of seating ~25ish seats. The restrooms are outside while there is a prayer room inside. Overall, might come back at a later time to see if this place does better, the chicken is good but everything else was just alright.

I just said surprise me and they delivered! They don't miss with the sauce too and the people there are very friendly and funny! the chicken and fries... too goood especially the price too!

Sauce cups 1/4 full.

On my search for the best halal fried i finally stumbled across Chicken Gs. My order- 2 Naughty Chicks meals with seasoned fries and Mac n cheese. One order of bone in fried chicken (#1) and one 5pc chicken strip. Along with 5 extra sauces. PROS The Naughty chicken sandwiches were great! Large. Hot and crispy. Definitely a great chicken sando. Chicken strips- great size served hot n fresh. Bone in fried chicken. My 9yr old son hated them. Its because they incorporate middle eastern seasoning. Definitely not kid friendly. CONS The fries- hot lamp fries served luke warm. Fries need to be served right out the fryer. It only takes 4 minutes to make. Mac n cheese, honestly great, creamy and noodles were cooked perfectly. Only problem it was served at room temp. Food needs to be served hot. Ne exceptions. Sauces. @50 cents a pc we received all of our sauce cups a 1/4 full? WHY??? Lack of customer appreciation. Give me what I paid for. Service. Definitely mismanagement. Why is the cashier stopping to take orders to prep the food? Shes leaving some food unattended to grab stuff from the back and thats how we are being served cold food. At $80 for our meal with consistent foot traffic. There should be no reason a customer has to wait close to 30 minutes for cold food. Absolutely unacceptable

The G Meal with barely any sauce and the Mac and cheese "soup" in the back
Anne P.

I would describe this place as wasted potential. The chicken, just the chicken, is well seasoned and crispy and delicious and generous. But then they put that delicious piece of chicken in between a cold bun with the texture of wonder bread....then they skimp out on the sauce making the burger dry. (If you ask for more sauce you have to pay for it). The Mac and cheese has initial good flavor but it's so soupy and after a while you get sick of it. The fries are not seasoned evenly and also unevenly fried. I think this used to be a really good place but I think they just stopped...caring. The guy working at the time was either in a bad mood or just didn't care at all. Barely spoke to us and just...grunted? It was so dirty everywhere. All the tables and chairs had not been wiped down (there was nobody inside), there was trash on the floor, the self service station was dirty and sticky with ketchup sprayed everywhere. The same hands that handled the register touched the food... A pretty disappointing experience overall.

All the items are available on their website under Starters and Sides, with free delivery, pizza restaurant style. On superbowl sunday, we got a bunch of pizzas, and twenty piece of the Flame Roast Lemon Chicken Wings, and another twenty of the BBQ Chicken Wings. Both were good. They were wings and little drumsticks mixed together. One guy here can't eat spicy, so we opted for mild spiciness on both. But they did come with a nice spicy ranch sauce. Definitely bingeworthy wings. Friendly on time delivery.

It's just not my go-to when it comes to fried food and so I don't have it often. That being said, one of the beauties of Local Kitchens is that it's open late and so when I finished work late one weeknight, I decided to come here and try something I had never ordered. I ordered the fried chicken with the goddess and buffalo ranch sauces as well as the garlic Parmesan fries. Despite not enjoying fried chicken, I am foodie enough to know that it's all about the batter. They definitely have a good spiced coating for their chicken that made it delicious. The fries were made with fresh garlic (always a good sign) and were tasty. The dips were also good and rather unique especially the goddess dressing dip. Overall, a decent place if you enjoy fried chicken. Like I said, I'm don't really eat fried chicken so I'm probably not going to rush to this place anytime soon. However, if there's another late night and/or I'm craving fried chicken, then I will definitely keep this place in mind.

Prop Chicken comes in three types: Fried, Flipped, and Fake. Fried is fried chicken. Flipped is roasted chicken. Fake is Tofu. I have ordered food at the real Prop Chicken in Oakland, and this food from Local Kitchens is exactly the same. Same flavor and quality. On a Sunday evening, using the Local Kitchen's App, I ordered the Flipped Chicken Entree. That's roast chicken (leg, thigh, and 1/2 breast), a salad, and a buttermilk biscuit. (Cost: $14). How was the chicken? That chicken was HOT, and the biscuit was soft. No complaints. I picked up my own order at the counter. Service was fast and professional.

And frankly, KFC has gone so far downhill in the past 5-10 yrs. Doesn't downtown MV already have Bon Chon (excellent, I go semi-regularly) and Clifford's Chicken & Fish (not *quite* downtown, but also excellent, I'm glad they're here!)? Sure, but those are slightly frou-frou places, you go, place your order, and wait a probably reasonable length of time while someone fries up your order, the wait longer (ofc!) when more people would like to eat. At Bon Chon, I've waited almost an hour for a single order! Contrast this with KKC, where the chicken's hot and ready in the case, you tell the cashier what you'd like, and 70 sec later, you're walking out the door with your order. Unless your order is large or complicated, which you can see mine was not. I actually scurried in *minutes* before closing, and took my chicken to eat at home. IT WAS STILL SUPER CRISPY -- er, KRISPY! Doesn't sound like much, but the old KFC was even nearer my home, and the chicken was always soggy by the time I was home. (Did it start out soggy?) And it didn't taste old/dry, despite being what was left in the case at the end of the night! The pieces *are* on the smaller side (I feel this is true everywhere -- chicken has shrunk and prices have increased), but it's good chicken. But the biscuits, OMG, THE BISCUITS!! One bite, and I was sure they had shortening -- super unhealthy, but you can't fake that texture, it's close to but not quite the same as lard, plus lard is savory and frankly more expensive than shortening, and let's call a spade a spade -- this is not a gourmet chicken shop. But the texture on these is really good. And the honey butter adds enough sweetness I personally don't feel a need to add more honey/butter/jam, though I enjoy biscuits sweet but not sticky-sweet. YMMV. Do I want to come back? Yes. What do I want next time? Probably more dark meat chicken and biscuits. What about their shrimp and blueberry biscuits? Maybe, but call me narrow-minded -- the shop was clean and I enjoyed my meal, but I feel this is a place that gives you a quick, delicious meal at a reasonable price. I'm not super sure this is a place I'd go for blueberries and seafood? That seems like asking a lot. But maybe I'm wrong -- I do see very positive reviews for blueberry biscuits, but silence on the shrimp, which might mean their shrimp is not selling that well, which maybe raises freshness concerns. Okay, so next time: dark meat chicken, plain AND blueberry biscuits! This is definitely worth trying. It's not expensive, you probably won't have to wait, so if you end up liking it, this will be a great place for you (just maybe not for your waistline and heart).
