Yum! I'm a fan of Vons chicken and this location doesn't disappoint. I tried their oven style chicken for the first time here, but found I prefer the fried chicken. I like the variety of flavors offered here, through different sauces and powders topped on the fried chicken. We ordered crispy garlic, honey butter, and crispy BBQ sweet and spicy flavors. Compared to other Korean fried chicken, the chicken meat itself tasted less seasoned and the coatings were less crunchy (1 star off), but the flavors of the coatings were all excellent. If I was eating here for the exterior sauces and powders only, I would give 5 stars. However, this is a chicken place, so I do need to take off a star for the chicken itself. Friendly, yes, but also forgetful... ordered items were forgotten, even after multiple reminders. VONS CHICKEN YOU SAVED ME!! I came out of an extremely disappointing Yelp event and was desperately hungry for some good food -- ordered crispy chicken for pick up $16.99 for 3 drums and 4 wings. The order was pretty much ready in the 10 minutes it took for me to drive over and I devoured that box within minutes sitting in my car. So yeah, I should have thought it through some more before ordering roast chicken from Vons, but I figured they should do a decent job with any chicken they serve, right? Right? Wrong. The roast chicken was freaking dry as heck and had hard edges. It's as if the chicken had been cooked the day before and was sitting under a heat lamp overnight until my order was received that day. This Vons Chicken location in Mountain View is a great place to find good Korean chicken, soups and sides. It was actually somewhat serendipitous to find this location in an otherwise ordinary strip mall. It's located on the corner of El Camino Real and Grant Road -- just across from BMW of Mountain View. This location is not a particularly large; but, there seems to be ample seating even during the busier hours. Best of all, it's found with the large (free) parking lot near other stores (including a 99 Ranch Market Asian supermarket located just across Grant). The food here is quintessential Vons -- very tasty Korean chicken. There is a very nice variety available too. In addition, there are many other dishes that are just as "signature" as the Korean chicken. The Japchae is delicious and the spicy chicken ramen is one of the best you'll find anywhere. My personal favorite is the chicken dol sot bi bim bap. It really is a great go-to dish -- especially when it is paired with a side of mandoo. At Vons Chicken, we always go for the honey butter fried chicken. This time, we tried the garlic chicken, expecting it to be like garlic soy, but it pleasantly surprised us with a sweet garlic puree. The wings were hot and crunchy. We also ordered the chicken cheese tteokbokki, which was decent but nothing to rave about. It was a really hot day, and they didn't have the AC on, which affected our comfort. There's plenty of seating and TVs to watch the game (and cartoons like Tom and Jerry!) Lots of parking since it's in a plaza. The server was nice, checked in a couple of times, and was a good conversationalist. From a price perspective it is a bit expensive (8 wings for 17+) but you definitely feel the quality and get a lot of meat. Came here on a Monday afternoon and the place was empty so service was super quick. The restaurant is really nicely decorated and they have the most comfortable chairs. Vons is delicious. I've only ordered from this location on Doordash, but it's pretty consistent to the other locations I've been to (Newark, Sunnyvale). They're the only place I know that offers cheddar or honey butter korean fried chicken, and they do it super well! I like to order the Vons Plate for one because it usually feeds me for both lunch and dinner. They provide a lot of wings, and it comes with a side of fries. Great tasting food with an amazing crunchy. Everything is packaged very nicely and I've never had any issues. The fries do get soggy, but for the amount of chicken I get in this, I don't really mind. Plus I'm not ordering from here and expecting the fries to be the star of the show! Overall great food great value. One of my favorite Korean chicken places comparable to others around the area. I ordered my Dog at the counter along with the small Crispy Yangnyum Chicken drumsticks to go. My food was brought to my table by the friendly and helpful Aileen. I was expecting a corn dog but was surprised with what I got; mostly deep fried cheese with a small chicken filled sausage (like a small Vienna sausage) on a stick. I filled up on my lactase pills and ate the gooey things. The tiny sausages were tasteless mystery meat but if you like cheese you might like it. Mountain View remains a hot dog wasteland. The spicy crispy chicken was very good and came with a tub of pickled daikon. It was sweet, crispy and mouth burning hot; which was okay for me. The pickles help with killing the residual heat. I paid at the register when I left. I'll never get a Korean Dog again, from anywhere. The crispy Yangnyum chicken is repeatable and there are more fried and roasted items on their menu to try. This place was a disappointment for me. Granted, the restaurant dining area itself is modern and has well-arranged seating, and I was able to order from a techy touch-screen panel. However, I noticed that groups of people who came in and ordered after me had gotten their food first. It took quite a while for me to finally get my order, and when I did the server was completely nonchalant about it (and I even entered a nice tip on the order screen beforehand). Also, the server was largely absent from the floor the whole time, and I could never get his attention. The food itself was perfectly beneath mediocre. My go-to fried and oven-roasted chicken in the peninsula. So good! I've only had takeout (perfect meal for a movie night, kdrama binge, or lazy weekday evening) and this place has never disappointed in crispy chicken timed well for delivery or pick up (plenty of parking). One time I called after placing a pick up order online that I was going to arrive 20 minutes later and they made sure to hold off cooking my order so it would be hot and crispy when I arrived (much appreciated!!). You can get a mix of wings, drums, and boneless at small or large sizes. Their healthier oven-roasted chicken options are also tasty. I just lean towards the fried goodness ;) Tip: ordering for one? They have "Vons for one" meal options including fried chicken with a choice of fries and pickled daikon or coleslaw (sweet potato fries and pickled daikon for me!). There are several chicken flavors. My favorites are their regular crispy fried chicken (mild or spicy), crispy yangnyum (spicy), and crispy real garlic. I'm not a fan of the crispy honey butter, which has a sweet powdery flavor. I wish you could have a small order with a variety of flavors but you can easily order a mix for 3+ people. Finally decided to meander over and check out the spot for dine in (I've only ever done take out). I've always felt like the prices for one were a bit steep for a take out order, so I've always ordered a small portion of chicken to spread across a few days. Took me a while to get more napkins (I'd ask for a lot right away). I think next time, I might ask for sauce on the side and dip as needed. The chicken was pretty good, they both had a nice flavor. However most of the flavor was from the sauce and once you get to the actual chicken portion, there's not much taste. The boneless pieces were also gigantic. That being said, the chicken was still juicy and moist. Normally I'd opt for bone-in chicken, but I preferred boneless just because it's less messy to eat. Can't comment on the service/environment much since I didn't dine in, but the interior seemed pretty open and modern, with a decent amount of tables. Been to this location a few times now and usually it is solid. But last night, it was off and not good. The F2 Crunch Fried Chicken was fried too long and the exterior was beyond edible. The chicken tasted old and had a dry mealy texture. No seasoning at all so tasted like just batter on outside. The Yangnyum chicken had a good slickness to it. But again tasted old. For appetizers, we ordered the cheese balls with honey butter seasoning. The cheese wasn't as ooey-gooey as places like Pelicana, but a good appetizer regardless. Also ordered two types of Crispy Fried Chicken (drums and wings) -- one plate with honey butter seasoning and one without. The honey butter is perfectly sweet for a savory chicken dish, and the crunch never disappoints. Also ordered japchae, which was a bit on the salty side, but fragrant with sesame oil. **Reached another milestone! My 100th post! :) I have been craving Korean fried chicken for quite a while and am so happy that I got to satisfy that craving with Vons Chicken! Placed the order through DoorDash and the process couldn't be easier. Ordered the 1/2 Crispy Fried Chicken, 1/2 Crispy Yangnyeom, and 1/2 Crispy Padak Chicken which came with pink pickled radish side. The Yangnyeom is coated with a spicy sweet sauce but I definitely prefer the crispy fried chicken over the more sauce-y fried chicken. My favorite would have to be the Crispy Padak Chicken -- the sweet and mustardy green onion sauce topped with shredded green onions were extremely tasty.
