vegan fish po boy
Grace X.

So far I've tried their mock beef banh mi, vegan fish po'boy, vegan chicken po'boy, and their vegan and gluten free double chocolate cake. All of the food has tasted amazing, and their mock meats are really really impressive. Also appreciate the extensive vegan menu. My only complaint is that the menu is extremely pricey especially for the small portion size, these sandwiches are smaller than usual for a banh mi yet also more expensive.

Seafood Pho
Cato S.

Dinner was very fresh and attractive. Veggies/cilantro/basil/sprouts/green onions in perfect crisp, tasty condition. Flavor of Seafood Pho was good. Garlic fries were very tasty, sauce has a lil tiny spicy bite to it that most people would enjoy. Vegan coconut curry was good. Wontons were scrumptious. Thai ice tea wasn't the best. Will probably go back and try other menu items. Love that they have vegetarian and vegan options as well as meat!

Grilled Chicken Banh Mi
James H.

If you're in the area and need a quick bite then it's a decent option. But don't expect a superb bahn mi here. The prices are high, $12.95 before tax for a regular sized bahn mi. Surprised it didn't come with jalapeños and not much carrots/radish . The grilled chicken was aright. They have other dishes available like curry and pho. Lots of parking Few tables inside/outside

Misleading wonton soup no thanks
G P.

Wonton soup is misleading on delivery apps. Literally a 24oz cup of PHO??? broth and 5 fried wontons?? The hell is this.

Veggie Pho
Tianjiao D.

Their veggie pho is excellent! I'm not even a vegetarian - I just happen to be in the mood of opting for something that has no meat in it. Turns out veggie pho tastes better than all the beef phos I had in the past (no here - this is my first time here). Very happy with my experience!

Ox 9 Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles - Soybean Paste Dry Noodles with pork

Ox 9 Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles

(130 reviews)

Came here with friends craving real Lanzhou beef noodle soup and Ox 9 delivered the goods…read more Ordered both the spicy and the clear broth to compare. The spicy is the one to get. Deep red chili oil on top, beef broth underneath that tastes like it actually simmered for hours, tender braised beef, bok choy, scallions, and cilantro finishing it off. Heat builds slowly and stays there, not the cheap instant burn you get at lesser spots. The clear broth version is clean and comforting, more for the purist crowd, but the spicy has way more depth. Noodles are the real deal. Hand pulled in house, chewy with that perfect pull when you bite in, holds up in the broth without going soggy halfway through. You can order different thicknesses, which is the move. The cucumber salad appetizer is a must. Whole cucumber fanned out like a dragon coil, dressed simply with garlic, vinegar, and chili. Crisp, cold, cuts through the spice of the soup perfectly. Get one per person, trust me. Service is fast, prices are fair for what you get, and the bowls come out hot and massive. One of the most legit Lanzhou spots I've had in the Bay. Already planning the next visit.

Service was…read moregreat as well - just the right amount of attention, including keeping our drinks and water filled. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we went for lunch, and I appreciate that they let us stay quite a bit longer to hang out even though we were too full to order more food. If you like larger portions, definitely go for the large. They mentioned it's 50% larger than their regular size, and generally only a few more dollars for each dish. The two of us who had the Nebeyaki Udon really enjoyed it. My only wish is that they would put the tempura shrimp on the side so that it doesn't get too soggy. One of us had the Niku Bukkake Udon and really enjoyed that as well, especially since it was a warm day outside. The restaurant itself is nice and clean, and the seating is spacious, allowing for a feeling of some privacy. I appreciate they don't pack everyone in together.

The restaurant's interior brick clad walls and the warm soft ambient lighting provide a comfy…read morerustic feel. The seating layout leaves a wide walkway in the center of the dinning room, allowing the dinning experience feel intimate even when people are seated nearby. The service was excellent. It was our first time at the Udon Mugizo, so the server offered to walk us through the menu. He explained the differences between dishes and their sizes. He even offered to show us images on his hand held ordering device since we were debating over what dishes to get. We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday celebrant received a free dessert. Kind, patient and helpful. Excellent customer service. The Order: Crispy Onigiri Bites -Chopped up pieces of well done pork Chashu with some delicious sauce and fresh green onion, all on top of crispy rice. A great starter. Tonkatsu Udon Deluxe (no spice) -The broth was well balanced. Full of flavor and not too salty. The shrimp tempura wonderful, even though it was slightly submerged so it was as crispy as I hoped. The deluxe comes with a cube of braised pork belly, and it was so tender and sweet. I could eat an entire plate of it! The noodles were perfect, soft and flavorful. The egg was sweet, but I wish I would have eaten it sooner, as I prefer the egg to be a creamier. I definitely recommend the Deluxe. Vegetable Tempura & Broccoli Tempura -A beautiful and tasty assortment of pieces. The corn was a stand out since it was off the Cobb, being held together by the tempura batter. It was delicious, with a batter that was not overly thick. Both were nice side dishes during our dinner. Kurogoma Mochi Ice Cream -The mochi may tend to stick to the paper lining, and picking them up with your fingers can be slightly sticky. The nutty flavor from the black sesame ice cream is fantastic. The pairing with the sweet chewy mochi exterior is a wonderful pairing. Matcha (Green Tea) Ice Cream -Delicious and creamy. Not overly sweet. A nice subtle creamy flavor. A great way to end the meal. The food and the service truly make this place stand out. Everything had a well balanced flavor, with the components to each dish (appetizer/side dish, soup, dessert) having a wonderful flavor journey through each bite, as the various ingredients take turns on center stage as you work your way through each dish. I will be coming back to try more of the menu, and I recommend you do too.

It's pretty hard to find options in Chinese cuisine as a veg and this place finally sees me. I always get the dry pot and I love how it's so flavorful and not that mala. You can pick however many toppings as you like, my favs are(hotpot noodles, lotus root and bunch of star donut). It's pretty heavy and definitely like a once in a while thing. Cause the dry pot has hella oil but I do think that contributes to the flavor profile. It's mainly self serve, but now they assign you tables and bring out your order to you. Service pretty fast and straightforward. For the best ambiance and taste you should go when it rains or when it's cold, it makes the food taste 10 times better! It's pretty casual and a place you can drop in anytime.

The beef here is decent, the vegetables are quite fresh, and the sauce station has all of the essentials. In terms of soup, I think the best one has to be the classic bone soup. You have the option to choose your spice level from 1-10 (not for all soups though). I've been told that I have a high spice tolerance and I usually get 7 here and it isn't really spicy at all. My friends who self proclaim that they have low to very low spice tolerance will at max get level 3, and they say that that is spicy. Service here is pretty minimal since you just grab everything yourself. Once you enter, you are given a table number so pay attention! After you get to the register, you'll weigh your bowl, choose your soup, and be given a bracelet with a number on it. You will be given the bill after you finish eating. It definitely gets busy during dinner time so plan ahead and/or join the waitlist in advance. Overall, Zhangliang is one of the most solid malatang spots in the area and it is always a good time when I come here.

We went on a night it was raining, so the restaurant wasn't crowded, and we weren't rushed away. Noise levels were great for an adult conversation at a reasonable volume. Service and attention was at the perfect level - not too much, but enough where our tea and water were never empty. As for the food we tried several dishes and enjoyed them all. * XLB: very juicy and tasty - I like the skin was a bit more substantial than DTF (I know, thinner is supposedly "better"), and the size was a lot more substantial than DTF (XLBs are way too small at DTF) * Pan fried XLB: This was perfectly executed and very tasty and juicy * Shanghai stir fried noodle: I didn't find this special, but it was just well cooked and executed and very tasty * Pork steamed dumplings: Hit the spot, nice and tasty - great sauce on the side that went with it (or maybe the sauce was for another dish) * Dry fried string beans: Deliciously cooked * Pork ribs: These were excellent, and I believe a special menu item - tasty, soft but with a bite, and nice and sticky with flavor The XLBs were the most "special", but we enjoyed how delicious the food was overall. This is a nice addition to Castro Street with plenty of parking all around.

We were greeted right away. Very friendly. Pan Fried Dumpling - 3/5 first place I tried that actually has a lot of soup in it! However, the soup was not good. It was really salty and didn't pair well with the rest. If you ignore the soup, it's really good. Braised Kaofu Gluten Salad - 5/5 so good! Finally found a place that has this. Braised Beef Noodle Soup - 2/5 not a huge fan. Probably just a preference thing.
