I just wish it had a thicker coating of batter to make it crunchy. The fries were soft as if they were steamed with uneven little crispy bits. The biscuit was super moist and buttery but as dense as rock! It def needed honey b/c it wasn't sweet at all. The banana pudding was tasty! Customer service was good, a few table inside and outside. Chicken was very crispy but also pretty bland and a little dry. Highly recommend getting a sauce on the side to dip it in. Mac and cheese was also watery and bland. The fries were the best part and it comes with every combo. Would come back to try the seafood but it's a pass for the chicken. Something changed with their batter. I called and asked about change in recipe or ownership recently. It was so drastic that I had to call to ask. Anyone who loves fried chicken should try Clifford's! Their chicken is very crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. What else do you need and good quality fried chicken? The catfish I was not a fan of (perhaps I am not a fan of this type of fish), it had a strong unpleasant smell of fishiness and was pretty oily/greasy. I didn't like the texture of the fish imo. Came with a friend for dinner at about 5 on a sunday. The restauraunt was pretty empty with only us there. There's only 1 employee and she was nice. Standard customer service. Noone else was visible. There are a couple tables but not a lot. The inside of the store feels like a popeyes. I ordered the fried catfish and fried chicken breast. The chicken breast and catfish were both pretty good. Very fresh, and juicy. The fries were very crispy and fried perfectly. The biscuit was excellent as well. However, the price was very steep. $25 was a pretty large price to pay. I remember when this location was occupied by a Guamanian restaurant. I was sad to see it go. I came here for the catfish even though they're known for their fried chicken. Hands down the best chicken sandwich I've had. The chicken was juicy, flavorful, and incredibly crispy, and the portions were so generous- a much bigger sandwich than most fast food chains give you while still being a reasonable price. The parking lot was nearly full but turn over is fast. There is some interior seating; a table and chair setup for about 14 people. You order and pay at the counter from the menu board behind the counter. I ordered the two piece dark meat, which came with a biscuit and fries. My meal was brought to me shortly in a box with the biscuit in a bag. The chicken had a crunchy breading and was very moist. The fries were hot and crispy. The biscuit was fall apart moist. Every thing was tasty and a little salty. A very good neighborhood chicken place with reasonable prices. I recently came across this place on yelp and have been dying to check it out. So this past Saturday I decided to make a visit. This place is located in a tiny strip mall in Mountain View, when I walked in I was greeted promptly. I decided to order the 2 piece dark meat meal that comes with side fries and drink. I opted out of the fries and instead got collard greens and added on a coleslaw to my order. They don't have fountain drinks here but sell bottled beverages which is actually like better. I decided to scan the menu again and realized they had Red Beans and Rice, I am a sucker for this. So I asked if I could swap the Cole slaw for red beans and rice, to which the cashier was very nice to allow me to do so. The chicken here is made to order and came out quickly. 2 piece dark meat 5/5 : This comes with a leg and thigh, and came out pipping hot. The chicken has a nice flavor and was very crispy. Cooked to perfection. Collard Greens 5/5: The Collard Greens were excellent, it's so hard to find good Collard Greens. But they executed this perfectly, they were flavorful, and tender. (Note these collard greens aren't vegetarian as they contain smoked meat) Red Beans and Rice 4/5: The Red Beans and Rice was really good the rice was cooked perfectly and the Red Beans were Flavorful. I took a point off as the beans were a bit mushy but still good. Coleslaw 2/5: The Cashier was super Sweet and still gave me the Coleslaw; that I originally ordered even though I swapped it for red beans and rice. The Coleslaw to me was lacking in flavor and was a bit too dry for my liking. A bit more flavor and dressing would have taken this up a notch. I can tell the coleslaw is made in house which I like. Service 5/5: The Cashier who rang me up was super sweet, patient, and accommodating. The service was fast and efficient. I've been ordering from here for awhile now. The last few months have been a miss for me. For some reason, food was consistently salty, burnt, or just not up to expectations. I ordered today, 4/6. Whoever was throwing down in the kitchen seasoned and cooked our chicken and fries to PERFECTION. The mac and cheese has also been meh lately, but whoever threw down with it this afternoon did AMAZING. It was hot and fresh, and not super salty. I've been driving by here for years, reviews looked great. But I gotta say we were extremely disappointed. I got a 4 piece, my wife got the wing order. Her chicken was overcooked and bland, her biscuit was undercooked and doughy. (It just fell apart). With my four piece the smaller pieces (drumstick, thigh) were almost burnt. The fry batter was difficult to bite through. It was bland and just shattered falling to our plate. The breast was juicy, but again burnt batter and bland. My biscuit was cooked better, and quite good. But you don't pay $35 for one good biscuit. The server at the counter was very nice, she asked what we needed for our to go order. The overall vibe of the restaurant is that dining in is an afterthought with a few tables, and no real 'environment'. I've had fried chicken in over 30 different states, in over 250 different establishments. If what I got was them 'at their best' then they fall in the bottom 10% of what I've had. Visited on a Monday evening, and the place wasn't too busy during the last hour of business. Parking was easy to find directly in front of the entrance. The interior of the restaurant was clean and casual, with wooden flooring and lovely artwork decorating the walls. Both indoor and outdoor seating available. Staff was friendly and provided immediate service, no wait to order. However, they accidentally mixed up my order with another customer. The staff was apologetic and fixed the error promptly, but I ended up having to wait 30+ minutes for my correct order. I wasn't in a hurry, so not a big deal, but still worth noting. Got the chicken thigh and catfish a la carte, as well as a couple honey butter biscuits. Omg, the fish and chicken were both so juicy and tender, and full of flavor. I loved the biscuits even more, fluffy and buttery, and so satisfying. The food was just fantastic! I was working nearby and remember seeing this a few times before when I was in the area, so I decided today would be the day to try them out. They got a decent sized parking lot that they share with a few stores so you don't have to worry about scarce parking. Inside is pretty clean and modern. The restroom was clean as well. I ordered my food to go and it was ready in decent timing. The fish and fries box was huge, my only problem is that it came with a ton of fries and only 1 piece of fish. For that price and box size, you'd think they'd throw a friend in there for the lonely fried swimmer. The flavor was good though, for what it's worth. The Mac and cheese was decent and the honey biscuit was on the dryer side. All in all I wouldn't give them a bad overall review. They just need to be more generous on things other than the fries. Wanted to try this place out as I always drive past it but never stopped by. I'm glad I did after we decided to try them out for dinner. We ordered the 10 piece mixed chicken meal. Their chicken skin has a nice crunch to it and their batter has a unique flavor. Not too salty like some places but not as crunchy as our favorite Jollibees. We enjoyed the side order of fries that came with the chicken but what also was surprisingly good was their honey butter biscuit. It was soft and not dry and crumbly and had a nice flavor. We also went with the Shrimp and Catfish combo and the shrimp batter was nice and crunchy and catfish tasted fresh. The only knock I have was when I went through their online ordering system. Some of the items on their paper-style menu didn't reflect the items shown in their online choices so I had to call in and place those items on order through the phone. Sometimes it's easier to call and have them take down your order and in this case I did just that. Hopefully they can sort it out where what you see on the menu is also what you expect to see on their online choices. Overall pretty good experience for a place not too far from home. read more

With the knowledge that this restaurant is the brainchild of the owner of BackAYard Caribbean Grill, our expectations were pretty high. In short, Clifford's did not disappoint even when we showed up 25 mins before they closed. I particularly enjoyed the catfish, red beans & rice, and collard greens. Don't get me wrong. The chicken was also cooked to order, coming out piping out and being juicy/crunchy at the same time. However, I can get chicken any time, but rarely get/eat the aforementioned 3 items. I am a sucker for good sides and theirs is right up there! I was so glad we ordered the large size version so that we could take the leftovers home to enjoy the next day. My biggest concern regarding their long term viability is their location. They are located in a small, somewhat hidden strip center in one of Mountain View's neighborhoods. I imagine them getting any recognition by word of mouth and food review sites such as Yelp. Perhaps the rent in one of the downtown locations was going to be too much to bear? read more

Do yourself a favor and give this place a try, you won't regret it. It's an unassuming place in a strip mall. Few tables outside, handful inside. Business is clean and as soon as you walk up you smell the delicious food. Was able to talk with the owner, very nice guy, made some suggestions on what to try. We decided to try everything and got a trio and an order of chicken tenders. The trio with fried chicken, shrimp, and catfish. More than enough for one person including sides, fries, and a biscuit. Honestly two people could split this one meal and walk away full. Including the chicken tenders we had more than enough for leftovers. The food was great, every single thing we tried. The sides we got were Mac & cheese and red beans and rice. My chief complaint with all of the good restaurants in the Bay Area. While I love Jackie's Place meat the sides are lacking to me. Clifford's I would come here for the sides alone. Don't get me started on the honey butter biscuits. Even though we had leftovers, and were stuffed, we got 2 more biscuits.
