Still the best cheesesteak in the Bay Area

Still the best cheese steak in the Bay Area Start with quality ingredients Don't mess with it. Hope they re open some of the locations (Palo Alto, San Mateo etc)

This was mixed for me - pricing felt high for a half sandwich but it was overall tasty. I hate having the cheese directly on the bread though - so most of the bites are cheese-less and then no cheese on the meaty bites. Ambience isn't much here but there were spaces to eat when I was here for lunch (but the tables were not cleaned). I'm not sure if I'd be back.

I've never had the opportunity to spy or sample a cheese steak in its native habitat of Philadelphia before but I must imagine that they are quite a bit different than this because the offerings here at Cheese Steak Shop are... pretty mediocre. The meat and cheese itself, pretty important ingredients one would imagine in a "cheese steak", were rather bland and underseasoned. The hot & sweet peppers offered a bit more flavor, but they were haphazardly thrown on top of the sandwich, easily falling off with every attempted bite. I appreciate that they let you subsitute curly fries in place of regular fries for no additional cost, but the curly fries themselves were also underseasoned and they've taken the criminal but all too common step of charging for dipping sauce so if you want to enjoy your curly fries with ranch (the only right way to do so) except to be charged an extra dollar for the pleasure. The restaurant interior was clean and there was a surprising amount of seating for the small area, but sadly the food quality just doesn't warrant a repeat visit anytime soon.

Quick service, hot food, and a chill vibe. I was craving a sandwich while on a walk and decided to stop here! Curly fries were great, I asked for onions on the cheesesteak, but I think the girl taking my order mistook that for no onions, but it was tasty either way! I took it to go and ate the other half as leftovers

Really great cheesesteaks! Generous amount of meat in the sandwich and large portion of fries. There was a perfect cheese to steak ratio and the bread was very delicious. The curly fries were my favorite, as they were nice and crispy, but the steak fries were also good. The staff at this location were also very friendly and the service was very fast. I would highly recommend this place if you're in the mood for a cheesesteak!

10/10 give me 14 of them right now. This cheesesteak I had right before going to Philly set the bar high. This is the best cheesesteak I've had in my life. The meat is tender but the cheese is melted in it so nicely. The meat is also super thin. The peppers give a nice acidity, spice and sweetness all at once somehow. There is a good amount of seating indoors but the plaza also has some tables outside. The service was quick and very friendly. I will say this sandwich was on the more pricey side (around ~$17 after tax and tip). However, definitely worth it if you are having the craving.

Suppose to be garlic fries, so dry and no flavor.

Spent $45+ and was disappointed when you don't get what ordered. While checking my order I noticed our garlic steak fries didn't have any garlic on it so I asked them about it and he took it back tossed it in a metal container and gave it back to me. Great, I thought until we got home. It's the same fries as he originally gave it to me, no garlic oil, no flavor. Bag it came in was dry as can be. What was he tossing?!? Not garlic fries.

Most cheesesteak shops have a thick and chewy hoagie that sometimes gets to be bit too chewy and becomes a problem trying to take a clean bite - more often than not, it ends up with the meat falling out of the hoagie, and/or juice oozing out onto your lap. Not so here at New Jersey's! This is the first time I ate a cheesesteak with no mess, no meat falling out, no juice on my pants! They solve the problem by using a soft hoagie roll. Yet there is not the sogginess that one automatically expects, as there is little juice to be soaked up. If you think that this makes for a dry cheesesteak, it does not. The meat is tender, not dry at all, the onions and mushrooms are not limp, but the flavor is all there! Some people may prefer the thicker bun to give it a definite bite, but I do like this more refined eating experience!

A friend recommended them because he said he had the best onion rings and they make their own ranch dressing. I got the standard cheesesteak with onions and cheese. Sadly I did not really get the cheese with my cheesesteak, there was one hidden slice inside my sandwich. Definitely not what I am used to if I have a cheesesteak anywhere else. The flavor was good, I just missed the cheese :( I know people love this place, but I will probably just go back to my regular spot on Saratoga.

It has been almost ten years since my last visit here, so I figured I'd give this review an update after my latest visit. The Good: * Large shared parking lot in a strip mall * Friendly service * Outdoor dog-friendly seating * Housemade bread is terrific * The beef itself is so simple, but so delicious as you can really taste the wood-fired oven in the beef. * They make their own root beer and it's available in bottles and even on draught! They also sell root beer floats, if you're so inclined. * If it's your first time, get the OG French Dip with the jus. So simple, but so good. If you're a big eater, like myself, be sure to add a few extra ounces of meat on your sammy, for a nominal cost, of course. *Their horseradish will definitely clear your sinuses! I love it, but if you're sensitive to that, then be forewarned. * Onion Rings are very good, and slightly better than their fries imo. The Meh: * Honestly, with such great branding, I'm surprised they're just starting to venture out into the franchisee market, as they'll be officially opening a second location on S Bascom Ave by Valley Med. * A little pricey but they serve up a delicious quality product. The Ugly: * The location is kind of small and seats maybe fifteen to twenty people inside and out. Conclusion: Meat eaters need only apply.

We thought that was a thoughtful and considerate gesture. As for myself, I ordered a breakfast burrito with bacon, sausage, eggs, and cheese. It came with a side of salsa which added some freshness and helped balance the heaviness of all the meat and cheese. Overall, it was a good hefty burrito but just a little greasy. Final Thoughts: 4.20/5.0…read more Contrary to many other opinions, I personally really like brunch. It really is more for the vibes and spending time with my friends and family versus the food sometimes. For some reason, this place has always been on my list of to-go brunch places, but I've just never had the chance to go here. After our matcha run, my friend and I decided to go here for brunch. It was around a 45 minute wait today. On their Yelp, appears to be quite the quaint place to to get food and relax. Will definitely be a 4 star for me. Food: Jumbo Crab Bene with seasonal fruit: 4.0/5 This is their fresh lump crab with sliced avocado, whole grain mustard and poached eggs stacked on lightly toasted English muffins, topped with scratch made Hollandaise sauce and garnished with locally sourced microgreens. This is served with either house potatoes or seasonal fruits. The lump crab is actually fresh crab I believe. There are some pieces of the shell that were still in there. I'm honestly not even mad because that's a pretty big indicator that it's the fresh crab meat picked out. The egg is nicely poached with a runny yolk. Hollandaise sauce is quite nice and light. The Dijon mustard was quite strong for me and did overwhelm some of the other flavors on the plate. It does add a nice flavor, but occasionally, it was too much. For the English muffin, it was quite thick, so it felt kind of dry. It's noted to be slightly toasted, but its somewhat hard to tell with the mustard, crab meat, and poached egg on top, which are mainly wet items. Avocado is perfectly ripe. I'm not an avocado person, but this one did it just right for me. The fruits came with blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, apples, cantaloupe, and honeydew. Very refreshing and needed after the savory foods. Philly Steak Sandwich with garlic fries: 4.0/5 This sandwich has grilled steak with peppers, onions, and mushrooms topped with provolone cheese on a toasted baguette with mayo and a light teriyaki drizzle. Will come with either a side of house salad or garlic fries. I really liked how they caramelized the onions and peppers inside of this. There's that additional sweetness from it that works well with the steak and cheese. Very tender meat. The bread also seemed kind of big and just almost dry too. Not too big of a concern given the amount of filling that they give. My friend choose the garlic fries and those were amazing. The cut is just right and the crisp on the outside is just so good. You can taste the garlic, but I could do with even more garlic to it. --------- Quality: Fresh Something I really like is that they use real crab in their jumbo crab bene. You can actually feel the tiny pieces of the shell in it, which usually means its fresh. The food did take a second to come out, but both were piping hot. My friends onions and veggies were quite caramelized, which is nice. Brings out a lot of the flavor component in the sandwich. The fries were actually so good too. I wanted the side of garli fries, but it was convenient that his came with it. Super crispy, nice size, flavor is good. May need a little more fresh garlic, but overall, really good. Price: Reasonable Prices seem reasonable for what they give. Initially, it does lean more on the expensive side, but their portion sizes are larger than your average brunch place. Prices will range from between $18 to $24, with a few outliers. Service: Very sweet workers Very nice service here. Everyone was sweet, greeted us, and checked on us. Our food did take a little longer than some others around us. For us, it was around a 25-30 minute wait after ordering our food. Even the table next to us that were seated after got their food first. The food did come out fresh, so I'm not really complaining. They did let us know and give us little updates about our wait and food though. Ambiance: Classic Brunch Spot The space is nice and looks slightly cramped inside. It was just my friend and I and they gave us a seat right in the corner next to the window. Honestly, probably the best spot for me and the person who seated us also noted that it was his favorite spot in the house. I didn't see much beyond from what was seen by the door. The space looks fairly small, but fit a decent amount of tables with walking space in between still. Always love the open kitchen. It's fun to watch what happens behind the scenes. Location/Parking: Large space It's located right on Saratoga Avenue. There is a Lucky grocery store here, so there is a lot of parking around. We really didn't have any concerns finding a space at all.
