Choose Any 2 Proteins: Half Grilled Half Hainan

I ordered via doordash and it was good despite being transported! Both the hainan and grilled chicken were so tender and the green onion ginger + thai sauce were really tasty. The rice was salty and flavorful as well. Overall a really balanced and delicious meal. The only thing I didn't like is the chicken broth, which was overly salty and just tasted like chicken bouillon. Can't say much about the service and ambience because I doordashed it. Anyways this small chain is definitely worth a shot!

This is the trifecta: healthy, yummy, and affordable! Food: I love their dark meat chicken with skin. I've been here 10+ times and it's never disappointed. They also will allow you to switch the rice food brown rice or lettuce for those that are trying to lower their simple carb intake. Service: Most of their locations allow your to order though kiosk and have a water station so you don't interact with their workers too much. It's a fast process Parking: Easy plaza parking

IS GINGER SCALLION OIL THE BEST DIPPING SAUCE FOR CHICKEN? Hainan chicken is in my top 10 favorite food of all time. There's something about the cold poached chicken and flavored rice. What ties those two ingredients is the ginger scallion oil. About a year and half ago I came to this location of Chicken Meets Rice. I ordered the hainan chicken box. I was disappointed in my eating experience from this first visit to Chicken Meets Rice as the hainan chicken was flavorless and there was a limited number of items. I came back to this location the day before Super Bowl LV. I wanted to give this location another shot. I planned to get two proteins rice bowl. One of the proteins was going to be hainan chicken. I thought about the grilled chicken as the second protein. Then I decided to get a more contrasting texture to the poached chicken. I ended up getting the fried chicken as the second protein. For the two sauces I chose two ginger scallion oil. I also ordered crispy wings. As with the two proteins rice bowl for the two sauces I choose two ginger scallion oil. Why did I choose scallion ginger oil as my dipping sauces for these two dishes? The ginger scallion oil isn't sweet or spicy. Yet the ginger scallion oil brings out the flavor of the chicken. The ginger scallion oil is a match with the poached chicken but surprisingly compliments with the fried chicken. That was evident with the grilled chicken and crispy wings I ate during my lunch at Chicken Meets Rice. I couldn't stop dipping the grilled chicken and crispy wings in the ginger scallion oil. It's a very addictive sauce for me on chicken. I can even use the ginger scallion oil as a dipping sauce for chicken nuggets. What made my lunch satisfying was a drink of the lychee peach lemonade, which its sweetness balanced the saltiness of the ginger scallion oil. I am glad to give this location of Chicken Meets Rice a second visit. I don't go to San Jose often but if I do and I'm craving for hainan chicken I'm going to Chicken Meets Rice.

Solid, consistent food here. Chicken and rice plates are my most ordered dish and I'd happily come here after a workout for a Hainan/Grilled chicken plate with chicken rice, I like them both. With the Hainan, I usually go for mixed meat with no skin. I usually go for two sauces amongst Singapore chili/ginger scallion oil/Thai ginger garlic soy. I've once tried the wings and wasn't the biggest fan. Easy parking outside!

We usually do delivery from here and every single time it's an absolute hit! My husband gets the Hainan chicken box with white meat and no skin with chicken rice, Thai ginger soy sauce and ginger scallion oil. I usually get the grilled chicken box with the same rice and sauces. It's such a filling meal and I love the freshness that the cucumbers bring. I'd love to go in person sometime! Big fan of their food and highly recommend to others.

Update: Shone, the owner reached out to me shortly after I posted my review. He was very sincere and addressed the issues I had. He informed me that the green string was pandan leaves and apologetic for it being left in the rice. I really appreciate him reaching out. I will definitely go back there if I'm in the area because of Shone's sincere customer service! Original post: Came here at 8pm on a Saturday after watching the Earthquake vs LAFC game at Levi's stadium. We were starving as we got there. There were 2 kiosks and we started ordering on it. On my 4th ordering, the kiosk started to stop responding to my touch! It just picked no sauce for me so I just let it go and check out. But then the kiosk completely froze at the last step! So I asked for help and a girl came over and order for me on her device all over again! She had a stoic face. Not too friendly. Due to the malfunctioning kiosk, the ordering took about 10 min. The food was ready in 7 min which was quick! We dived into our food! All meals come with soup and it was so soothing . I got the hainan chicken rice . The rice was ok . The chicken was moist . I also tried the grilled chicken. It was flavorful . But then as I was eating, I found a long piece of green thing in my rice. Not sure what it was and I didn't want to bother with the staff there since they didn't seem too friendly or they looked too busy. Overall, the food was worth the price. I chose this place since most of the food there were gluten free which I really appreciate! However, I wish the ordering went smoother and the mysterious green string was not there.

Hidden gem for sure right up the street from Levi. The team here are very friendly and helpful. I ordered the fried chicken box and it didn't disappoint. The only issue was there's more rice than chicken but still really good. Overall a really great place and a must try. Btw shout out to Jeremy who went above and beyond with excellent customer service. Make sure you stop by Chicken Meets Rice off Tasman.

Relatively quick service. Great casual chicken place. I ordered the Hainan chicken to-go and liked how customizable this is : rice (you can choose white or brown), half rice half salad or just rice/salad, white versus dark meat with options to have skin on or off. I tried the green scallion ginger sauce and it does pair well with the Hainan chicken. I would've liked the Savory ginger sauce to have stronger ginger taste. Overall, a delicious affordable Asian chicken place.

Finally got to try Chicken Meets Rice, I can see why hella people love it! I tried the split plate with fried chicken and hainan chicken with sauces, salad and rice. The chicken did not disappoint, definitely enjoyed the meal and finished most of it, would definitely recommend and come back again. We ordered online for pick up and ate there and it took about 10-15 minutes, I saw people order in person and it took them around less than 10 minutes for the food to come out. It is a small parking lot but I believe there is more in the back and there is a good amount of seating inside and a few outside.

Can you please consider opening more locations throughout the Peninsula? I've never been able to find good Hainan chicken rice until now. I know Rooster and Rice is popular and it used to be my favorite until I tried this place today. I was near Santa Clara when it popped up, so I gave it a try for the first time. I couldn't believe I just discovered it. I'll definitely be coming back whenever I'm craving Hainan chicken rice. I really like how you can customize everything, and the added vegetables are a great touch. All the sauces are incredibly tasty too. A lot of people order takeout, and it can get really busy during peak times. If you want to avoid waiting, try to go outside of prime lunch or dinner hours.

I've been in this establishment for at least a few times and really love the taste of the chicken. This chicken shop serves all sorts of chicken especially their Hainan Chicken. I've never been in one location that has its own place since I usually go to the one that's in 99 Ranch Market at Fremont. I decided to go to this location for an experience inside its own place. Would not wanna miss out and so I got Split 2. The grilled chicken is seasoned well and the Hainan chicken tastes as authentic. The chicken rice really hits the spot. It's like they mixed the chicken broth and white rice all together, which am unsure if that's the case. It's a really good lunch spot and might be good for dieting since it has grilled chicken and brown rice as well as the salad on the side without any sauces. Honestly would hope that they included an option to not include the skin, but that's ok. I think I remember ordering one type of chicken only and there is an option to remove skin, but doesn't show up on "Split 2" selection. If I have to make a suggestion, they should add that part. Also, this location or probably the establishment doesn't accept cash payments.

Normally we'd pick up from a Korean fried chicken joint (the other KFC) but decided to try something new. This place is in a tired old strip mall and over the years I've seen businesses come and go, but a few have managed to hold on for the long term. I've noticed this place for at least a few years but never had occasion to try it until recently. We arrived after the lunchtime rush and ordered a 5-piece meal to share with a side of fries and a mango lassi. It took just a short time for the food to arrive at our table, piping hot. The individual pieces were decent in size. The skin was satisfyingly crispy with just about the right amount of salt. The meat was moist, even the breast meat which tends to be drier than the legs and thighs. It came with three different sauces (spicy, BBQ garlic, and regular garlic). The fries were seasoned and were decent, but I prefer just plain fries. The mango lassi was great as a palate refresher in between bites. Prices were good, and the service was great. The guy who took our order and offered suggestions was particularly nice. Looking forward to our next visit, at which time I'll probably try one of their interesting-sounding sandwiches.

I had went in upon opening time, so my wait was a little bit, but I was not complaining because you know what they say: "Greatness comes when you build them up one by one." I got their hamburger with the extra cheese, and curly fries. The patty was extra juicy, and the brioche buns were toasted really well. I especially like how they added on the cheese after the patty was marinated on the grill for quite a while, but not too long to the point all of the juice was sucked up. The only down side to the food: the prices. Be prepared to spend quite a bit on lunch if you decide to go to this place, because they do end up charging quite a bit more than what the regular places around Downtown would. But the IPA beers make up for it, so it's also worth a bang for your buck. Hospitality was pretty top-notch -- my order was taken in an orderly fashion, and they even apologized for the wait as well. A week before, I had cycled to this eatery and found it full of customers enjoying, to my surprise, cooked chicken. I didn't have time to queue up for a meal, but resolved to return in the future. It was in this downpour that seemed a good thing to do--the torrential weather would reduce the wait time. Parking in the small lot was good--plenty of open spaces. I (gimp)walked up the ramp and entered the nearly vacant super clean space, pleased to not be in a queue. Sure enough, I was the only person inside other than the cashier & chef. Now my concern was deciding upon the specific dish; finally choosing the Starbird 2.0 sandwich only--not the meal that included fries and a drink. The pleasant cashier quickly had my selection bagged and ready to go, and my credit card completed the transaction. After collecting numerous napkins, I returned to our (motor)vehicle and my much better half, who had patiently waited for me. Once back at our apartment, I finally got a look at my purchase. It was exactly as promised, crispy chicken slices between two buns, along with a small pile of veggies & sauce. I devoured it rather quickly, washing it all down with iced 0% milk. ¿Maybe I should have gotten the meal; I could've eaten more of the delicious food! Anyway, I was glad to have had my first ever experience with this lovely chicken eatery on this drizzling late afternoon, and look forward to returning in the future. The photos are incredibly outdated as this truck no longer serve mac and cheese nor collard greens, which are two dishes that I enjoy. Even their main fried chicken and waffle menu has gone from about ten items down to five. Nevertheless, I decided to get a fried chicken and waffle sandwich and ordered the Spicy and I Know It. It was honestly the saddest sandwich I have ever seen. The waffle was barely the same quality as what you would get at the continental breakfast served at your local inn. 5 stars for the soy garlic wings. They are double fried and always crispy. They are usually plump…read moreand juicy. They are not dried out or thin wings. I like the Sunnyvale location the best. I've tried other locations and the wigs aren't cooked enough or just right. Our family of four orders the medium 24 pieces with radish or coleslaw. If we have other food with the wings, it's enough. If not, then we order the bulgogi fries, fried zucchini, and/or rice. We have tried most of their sides and they are ok but the star is the wings. Of course for convenience, it's easier to order sides to go with the wings than to make another stop. Wings are usually done when they say. Service is usually young adults ready to help at the register. We always get our wings to go. There is a sit down eating area with tv's but not my scene. It's very open and seems great for young people. There's a big lot to park and you might have to walk. It gets very busy occasionally due to the other businesses in the complex.

Now they don't have that bundle anymore, they're skimpy on the radish, they're skimpy on the sauce, the wings are insanely expensive and they reduced portion size. Wholesale a pound of wings is around $3, that gives 9-12 wings depending on the size. For 24 wings, it would cost them max $7.50. 24 wings now costs $42 on their menu. Quality and portions went down massively with a sharp increase in price. They're now living off the reputation they once build and it is sad. Corporate greed at its finest
