finally tried this place after years of it being in my bookmark! would not ever return again. food tasted low quality with high price. forgot to include the spicy pork we ordered which was very little (broken/shredded-ish) meats that's too expensive for what it's worth. at first we did the bbq n thut it was OK but it really was very little meat for a high over $70 price tag. rice cake was chewy but on the sweeter side which i didn't really like too much - should have done my hw better! it felt like i was eating like a semi fast food maybe like a late night pocha joint.

Korean Barbeque Combos: #1) Anseem, chadolbaegi, samgyeopsal (Tenderloin, beef brisket, and pork belly with seafood tofu soup)

Final Thoughts: 4.74/5 Small KBBQ spot in Santa Clara area. They actually sell Korean BBQ items, but also have the option to just get your typical Korean food dishes, as well, if you don't want KBBQ that day. This is a dinner and late night eats place. Their dishes are very homey and comforting, so it works with their opening and closing times. Food: Korean Barbeque Combos: #1) Anseem, chadolbaegi, samgyeopsal with seafood tofu soup (Tenderloin, beef brisket, and pork belly with seafood tofu soup): 4.4/5 This comes with a variety of meats and they also provide a tofu soup to go with it. All of the meats are nicely cut and tender. There is some nice marbling on some of the meat and they all appeared of optimal quality. The meats go well with all of the sides and ssamjang sauce. Something I like to do is dip the meat in the tteokbokki sauce, as well. The flavors just work together nicely for me. What I typically do is put the meat in the lettuce and dip it in the sauce. The lettuce adds a refreshing element to the meats and gives it some texture since the meats are tender. For their tofu soup, it comes out piping hot in the bowl. Flavor is quite nice. For spiciness, it was a good kick for me. Subjective, but I liked the balance of spice and seasonings here. Very warm and comforting. Tteokbokki with ramen noodles and cheese: 4.7/5 This item comes with rice cake that includes fish cake, egg, and vegetables with sweet and spicy sauce. The sweet and spicy sauce is where it's at for me. Personal preference, but I love the level of sweetness. Others will perhaps say the balance of sweetness of spicy is off and too sweet, but I personally like it that way. The texture of the rice cakes are nicely cooked. They're chewy, but still have that nice bite to it. Fish cakes are always a must with this dish and they are not skimping with them. I will say though that I wish they had at least another egg added into the dish. There's a singular one and that might be related to the egg shortage these days. It's not a big concern, but I do love my eggs in this dish, as well. The noodles and cheese are provided with an additional cost. They are always a must for us though because anything with this sauce tastes amazing. If they bottled it up and sold that, I would have gotten one. Note: This place seasons their food items a little sweeter than other places. This is the case for their sauces, kimchi, pickled items, etc. It's delicious for me, but I understand that other people might not be too fond of this level of sweetness. --------- Quality: Fresh Their meats are quite nice and I like the variety that is provided to us. They were all very tender and had nice flavor. Very nice marbling happening on the meats too. For their sides, the vegetable items were also very fresh, which I love. The items seemed fresh and not wilted. Price: Little pricey The prices do lean more on the expensive side. I have gone here once before and this is my second time, so I'm aware that inflation has affected their prices too. Between 3 people, the price was about $45 each. This might not be the case for everyone depending on what is bought. We went with a Korean BBQ, so it's naturally going to be more expensive. They have options for you to pick from though. Service: Pleasant Something about this restaurant is that a staff member will cook the meat for you. I don't see this happening often in Korean BBQ places, but this is one of them. Some people will find this a plus and others will prefer to cook the meat themselves. I'm pretty neutral about it and they weren't standing there the whole time. It was only to cook the meats, put them on the side so we can pick the pieces ourselves to eat, and then leave for a bit and come back to cook the next meat once we cleared the grill. Ambiance: Homey Very small and almost like a hole in the wall. It gives me very homey Korean household vibes. The interior looks like a small little shop. Not too many seats inside, but it seems optimal. We haven't had a concern with any wait times or seating yet. Location/Parking: Hole in the wall This shop is kind of hidden? It is located on the side of the road, but the signage and spot of it is almost hidden in plain sight. Something that was mentioned to me was that this place might do better if they were in a better location. Their food is quite good, but just their location is a little hidden. The parking space in the back is optimal for this area. There's not too many shops around here, so the parking appears optimal for the space.

Fried dumplings, seafood pancake, banchan

We ordered food to go on a Wednesday night at 6 pm. Food would be ready in 25 minutes. It was a small parking lot and a small restaurant with not much ambiance but it was filled with young adult diners. We had the seafood pancake, big, salty, chewy and okay. We also had Goon-Mandu - fried dumplings, not too exciting but crisp, a side of rice which was normal, bulgogi- marinated slices of beef, tasted okay, some fatty parts. Of course, we ordered Yangnyeon tondak- traditional Korean fried chicken with sweet & spicy sauce, half and half. The non sauce chicken pieces was perfectly crisp, cooked thru, and still juicy. The sauced was a bit mushy and good flavor. The pork tofu soup was my favorite. It was spiced just right. It came with a small container of daikon and a small divided container with fresh banchan which were delicious. Overall, good. I think I've had better bulgogi. I would order non sauced kfc. I really liked the tofu soup. I would consider doing take out again.

One of my favorite mom n pop shops here in ktown! When you walk in you're immediately hit with a korean pub vibe and it feels homey. I usually come in earlier for dinner as it's not as crowded when you come in later. We always order their kimchi spam fried rice and it's the BEST I've ever had. It's spicy, salty, and delicious, especially when paired with their homemade banchan! I also really like their bbq combos because it's so filling and it's so yummy! We've also tried their army stew and the portion was huge enough to feed 3-4 people. We've had their spicy pork and although the portion is on the smaller side, it's packed with flavor. Everything's great 10/10 would recommend.

Ddeokbokki, Korean fried chicken, & kalbi short ribs
Lorcan Y.

I was excited to try out this recommended Korean spot from one of my Korean friends but I'd say I wasn't crazy impressed with it. We got three dishes: the ddeokbokki, the half half fried chicken, and the kalbi short ribs. I did like how they made the sauce for the ddeokbokki for sure, a nice sweet and slightly syrupy gochujang sauce. The only downside there was the rice cakes were slightly on the overcooked side so I wish they had more of a bounce to each bite. For the fried chicken, I'm a big Korean fried chicken fan, but I'd say their fried chicken wasn't anything special. If you want good Korean fried chicken id rather go to BBQ Chicken down the street. Lastly for their kalbi short ribs, it was pretty on par with all the other Korean restaurants that serve it. Nothing spectacular. Definitely worth a try but I probably won't go back often.

A new korean spot that I just discovered! I've gone here twice already and got seated right away. I enjoyed the ambiance at this restaurant (felt authentic and that I transported to Korea). Their banchan is sooo good -- I love the different spice levels / sweetness that was used in them especially the fish cake. The first time I came I had their lemon soju since I've never had that before and it came in a cute little pitcher. You have to like tart to enjoy this! It was refreshing but definitely sour because fresh lemon was used. I've had their tteokbokki with ramen and also with cheese, spicy marinated pork, LA galbi, korean fried chicken, and the dolsot bibimbap. The tteokbokki is so good that I've had it both times. The korean fried chicken was also good (I liked the batter on the chicken). I highly recommend this place for korean food!

Bulgogi
Ron P.

This place is open till late with lots of menu options and we love that! We ordered the bulgogi, naengmyeon, and tteokbokki for the two of us and ended ip taking the bulgogi togo. I'd say every menu item we ordered was great! The side dishes (banchan) were also all amazing! Although we could tell there was a lot of sugar involved. The only star I take off is the service which isn't the best, which is somewhat expected when they are working late night shifts. Not too much of a complaint tho!

seafood pancake

Hole in the wall Korean restaurant with some hearty seafood pancake! I enjoyed the bibimbap as well with perfectly crispy rice. The only letdown was the Korean Fried Chicken's marinade was a little clumpy. Definitely recommend for the BBQ and seafood pancake!

L.A. Galbi and Spam Kimchi Fried Rice
Aerielle S.

Came here at 10pm and waited around 15 minutes since the restaurant was fully seated. The banchan they gave us were really good. My personal favorite were the bean sprouts, kimchi and fish cake. For our main dishes, we had L.A. Galbi and Spam Kimchi Fried Rice. The Galbis were sticky but flavor was really good, a little sweet and a little savory. I loved the fat to meat ratio. The Spam Kimchi Fried Rice was perfect, not too spicy or salty. I really enjoyed it. The ambiance was cozy, everyone was really enjoying their meals with their company! They were slow on refilling our water but understandable since there were only 2 servers for 9 or 10 tables!

Soft tofu stew with beef

Who loves Korean food and soup? I came here with my friends on a Thursday night when it was super cold and rainy. We wanted something hot and soupy and decided to come to Jang Mo Jip in Santa Clara, CA. We absolutely love the soups here! Starting off with the amazingly seasoned side dishes! They give 5 different side dishes here which I believe are fish cake, kimchi, cucumber kimchi, some other type of kimchi and bean sprouts! They were all delicious full of savory, sour, sweet and tangy like flavors. However, the only side dish I didn't like too much was the fish cake because the seasoning on that was a bit too salty for my taste. However, all the various kimchis were so good! I wanted to buy a jar of it to bring home. For the main course I ordered their "Subdubu-JjIgae" as displayed on their menu. It is their soft tofu soup! They give three different meat choices that you can have in your stew which are seafood, beef and pork. I chose beef! The stew was super comforting and perfect for the cold rainy weather. They are very generous with the amount of soft tofu that they put in. As for the broth, it is perfectly seasoned! Not overly salty but just enough to taste how savory and spicy it is. The stew comes with a bowl of rice like most Korean restaurants I've been to. My friend ordered "Odeng-Tang" which is their fish cake soup and he said it was good but rather spicy for him. I tried his broth and it's delicious! For me it's the perfect amount of spice! There's a lot of fishcake in the dish too. Overall I highly recommend this place because not only was everything delicious, the vibes are great! Lots of people at night, songs are playing and they have a TV LOL. I will be coming back here again! The service here is great too no complaints!

My go to Korean spot. I'd call it a hidden gem but it gets crowded after 8PM. Service is minimal but gets the job done. Highly recommend for that kbbq fix.

We waited for probably 15-20 minutes which wasn't too bad. The place is pretty big and fits a good amount of people. The food was great. They have also opened a location in Cupertino that is more convenient for me. Adding Mian to this plaza definitely livened it up, it was so difficult finding parking and then there was an hour wait when we joined the waitlist. We wandered around Grocery Outlet and Savers to pass the time. I came with a group of 6 people. We ordered the sichuan spicy fries and fried chicken cutlet to share. The fries were the spiciest item I had that day, wow! I ordered the Sichuan chicken cold noodles, extra spicy. They were not spicy at all. I left everyone at the table try them and they all agreed it was not spicy. Kind of disappointing, I expected them to be spicier than the fries at least. My partner had the chengdu zajiang noodles, mild spicy. They were good, the signature dish of the restaurant. I would return, but their spice levels are very inconsistent.

It is straightforward with a good mix of udon, rice dishes, small bites, and drinks, which I really appreciated. The food felt delicate but still had layers of flavor. Nothing was heavy or overdone. The rice was one of my favorite parts. It was crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly inside, which made it so satisfying. The chicken karaage was also really good. Crispy, tender, flavorful, and exactly what you want when you order karaage. The only thing I would probably skip next time is the mixed sake drinks. They are fruity and fun, but they tasted like they were made with sugary syrup. So if you do not want a sugar bomb or you are watching sugar calories, I would stay away from those. The inside has a cozy feel that reminded me a little of something you would find in Japan, but with a bit of an American touch. It felt clean, casual, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and attentive without making anything feel rushed. Also we had our son so they brought share plate without us even asking for him. I loved that they considered that. For the amount of food, the quality, and the overall experience, the prices felt well worth it. We will definitely be going back. It is one of those places that feels easy to recommend because the food is good, the menu makes sense, the service is warm, and the whole experience just works. Only minor letdown? There were only a few slices of beef left, so I opted for lamb instead but it still hit the spot. My bowl ended up being about $26, which honestly felt like a steal considering it was nearly 2 lbs of food. Definitely way more affordable than some other spots I've been to.
