I feel like there's not enough substance. The bowl was barely half full and lacking toppings. Food was average.

Located along El Camino somewhere in Koreatown, parking is limited but I'd say enough for the size of the restaurant. There are a few reserved spaces specifically for the restaurant. Service was alright mainly due to the fact that the servers spoke little to no English making it a little difficult to communicate. 8. Korean style sausage soup with napa - U Guh Ji Soon Dae Guk Bab (5/5): served in piping hot, the soup was so flavorful. For me the spice level was perfect. The sausage was so tender and the cabbage was good too. Tap to pay is not accepted. Overall, Obok Restaurant is a great place for some delicious Korean food.

Ask for Soon Dae Gook Jeong Sik. You get the soup, the side dish and variety of Soondae meats.

Ask for Soon Dae Gook Jeong Sik. You get the soup, the side dish and variety of Soondae meats. It's how my dad used to like back in 2000s. Wow!

I found this little mom and pop shop in a shopping center. It's a small place with a dozen tables. Everything was in Korean and I heard only Korean from a lot of the people there. I didn't know what to order, so the lady recommended the beef soup that came with the usual kimchi and other sides with rice. Everything was very good and tasty! I really liked the kimchi and sprouts that had some spice and heat but not too much. Soup came out scalding hot with some noodles. Very nice staff. I felt like my aunt or grandma was feeding me.

small local Korean soup in a small center. Soup was tasty except the tiny tiny tiny pieces of beef. I think than ran out and beef, I expected more hearty pieces. sides weee also good (i had two kimchi and radish). I would go back if in the area again.

unassuming mom n pop place esque place. i LOVE their gopchang bokkem and japchae. i normally wouldn't order japchae but honestly theirs was one of the best japchae ive ever had! i wish the price wasn't sooooo expensive on doordash tho then id def get food from here more.

I came by to try some Korean blood sausage. It was ok - I don't think I'm a huge fan of blood sausage as I don't eat it very often (this was my second time) and it may be an acquired taste. The restaurant itself is very small so come during off hours to get a good seat. Lots of traditional items on the menu!

Small mom and pop shop with stellar service. The beef soondubu was outstanding and came with rice and side dishes. Barley infused drinking water, crisp Cass beer. Overall above and beyond in terms of quality experience and I would definitely come back with friends and fam for home style Korean cooking.

    Intestine tofu soup

Definitely a hole in the wall spot, but I think they have some of the best soondae in the bay area. The spicy cabbage soondae soup is so good! Tried the intestine tofu soup, which was also flavorful and delicious. For those who enjoy chicken feet, they're chicken feet is delectable - it's coated in a spicy sauce and they give you gloves to eat with it. If you're a fan of intestines, the soondae/intestine combo would be perfect. Their menu also has your more common Korean options like galbi, jap chae and combo tofu soup. Would recommend and they usually don't have a wait :')

Very good banchan, just has a very old school flavor.

I really enjoyed coming to this restaurant to get my soup fix on, as I have been under the weather a LOT lately and Korean soups just hit the spot. Unfortunately, my appetite did not allow me to order the soondae platter with my soup so I have yet to sample their trademark dishes such as soondae guk, spicy soondae guk, or soondae. However, the beef and cabbage soup really did hit the spot. They put those ridiculously tiny little shrimp into the stock and while I usually don't care for seafood stocks with land animals in my soup the flavors were definitely balanced and the soup was hearty without being heavy, flavorful without being salty, and had plenty of fun goodies floating around like bulgogi chunks, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and radish. I want to come back to try the soondae sets of course but the goat stew and spicy soondae guk seem to be very popular as well. Very friendly husband and wife couple running the show and working their tootsies off. I was able to just relax and take my time nursing my "I'm so sick" mentality. I wasn't too sick to hit up Sulbing on the corner of the same plaza for a smoothie after; I had to cool down on a summer day after that hot bubbling soup, naturally.

this spot is such a gem. we enjoyed everything that we ordered. definitely would recommend the soybean noodles and the soondae gukbap. if you're a fan of intestines I recommend getting the combo intestine platter. the staff are super nice and they helped with seasoning our dishes. it's a small restaurant but service is pretty fast.

My party was greeted warmly and was quickly seated after my reservation was confirmed. SERVICE Very prompt and professional service. The BBQ meats were cooked consistently, and every request was accommodated. FOOD Chungdam focuses on delivering high-quality meats for your Korean BBQ experience. The banchan was delicious! I was surprised that three spicy raw baby crabs were served. To be honest, it was my first time trying it despite hearing about the hype. It paired pretty well with rice. The dressing and condiments were perfect. I appreciated that salt was provided since we ordered all non-marinade meats. The fermented bean curd dip was my favorite. The seafood pancake we ordered took a bit longer to arrive, but it was delicious and crispy! We were even greeted when leaving. They offer kimchi for takeout in jars, available in 16oz and 32oz sizes. I particularly enjoyed the kimchi and had it refilled during dinner, so I decided to buy a 16oz jar to enjoy at home.

This is not "trendy K-BBQ." This is craft. Premium Beef Sets The two beef platters show exactly why this restaurant has earned its reputation. Cuts are uniform, balanced, and beautifully marbled - not over-trimmed, not sloppy. You can tell each cut was selected with intent. And then comes the part that separates Jang Su Jang from the rest: The Ajeumma Grill Masters The ajumma who handle the grill are true specialists. They adjust heat, angle, and timing with an instinct that can't be engineered - it's earned through years of repetition. Fatty cuts get brief exposure to maximize aroma. Leaner cuts are rested, turned, and finished with restraint. Everything lands at the table tender, glossy, and perfectly rendered. This is the kind of skill you don't fake. Signature "Wang Mandu" Dumplings These oversized dumplings - often associated with Pyongyang/North Korean culinary tradition - are beautifully pleated, delicate, and generously filled. The wrapper stays thin; the interior stays juicy. A standout item, and a rarity in the Bay Area. Cold Noodles (Naengmyeon) A textbook bowl: * Broth clean and chilled * Buckwheat noodles with bounce instead of mush * Two precise slices of beef on top -- tender, thin, and chosen specifically because they don't fight the noodles' texture A lot of restaurants get this wrong; Jang Su Jang gets it exactly right. Spicy Shredded Beef Noodle Soup Deep red broth, long strands of tender shredded beef, and vegetables cut for texture rather than decoration. A bowl built for cold days, and executed with discipline. Service & Atmosphere Service here is closer to Korean fine dining than casual K-BBQ: * Full uniforms * Structured training * Staff who monitor your grill without interrupting * Adjusting cuts based on who's at the table * Cutting, rotating, and finishing the meat so you don't have to guess You feel taken care of - not rushed, not ignored. And yes, you'll leave with a little grill aroma on your clothes. That's the mark of a proper K-BBQ house - an imprint of the experience. A Note on Hanwoo If you truly want to experience Hanwoo, the most direct path is simple: from SFO or SJC, a few hours in the air puts you in Seoul eating the real thing. But within the Bay Area, Jang Su Jang is the closest expression of classical Korean grilling done right. If any restaurant here were to introduce Hanwoo one day, this is the one that deserves to serve it. In a region full of modern, high-tech, all-you-can-eat K-BBQ concepts, Jang Su Jang stands alone as the Bay Area's classical Korean reference point - precise, disciplined, and anchored in real craft.
