    Vegetable gimbap

5 stars for their veg gimbap. Veg to rice ratio is perfect. The quality has been consistent for the past 4 years. Kind service. Other menu items are standard but their vegetable gimbap is authentic korean quality.

    Great lunch for $8.99!

In the battle of the ethnic supermarkets (Nijiya, Mitsuwa, Ranch 99, Mi Pueblo, Hankook), the stakes have been increasingly raised as each store has begun to offer super fresh produce, sashimi grade fish, kobe quality beef and more....all at prices that would make Whole Foods and Draeger's blush with embarrassment. The in store delis, both a one-stop shopping convenience as well as an ode to the particular ethnic cuisine, have also been upping the quality as well. Hankook Super Deli, located in the middle of Hankook Korean Supermarket, is among the top of those places. It's claim to fame is definitely the dolsot bibimbop, a variation of the traditional bibimbop or mixed rice dish that is served in a hot stoneware bowl. During a late lunch, I saw that every other patron had ordered the same dish. At $8.99, it's not cheap, but comes with a generous side dish of kimchee, a great seaweed soup, and a ginormous serving size. Ingredients were fresh and tasty and the large predominance of vegetables means a largely healthy meal. Although you can get a regular bibimbop served in a cold metal bowl for a bit less money, I highly recommend the hot stoneware bowl. It causes the rice to get slightly crispy and means the bowl is a nice hot temperature that mixes nicely with the room temperature vegetable. Combine this rice bowl with the great soup and the cold kimchee and you really have a match made in heaven. This dolsot bibimbop was better than any bowl I had during 4 years of school in the Midwest and we ate a LOT of bibimbop back then. The deli is also a great stop to pick up to-go items for home, with my absolute favorite being japchae or Korean cellophane noodles often served as a side dish during Korean BBQ dinners. Hankook Super Deli is a super low key place to grab a great meal and they even accept credit cards, although only Visa and Mastercard.

$10 minimum for credit card purchase.

Veggie sushi, $5! Hankook super deli is located in Hankook supermarket, make your way to the back of the store and you'll spot the sign. I'm here at least once every month and so far I've enjoyed every visit.

    Rabboki

(: Boba-Foodaholic Says :) My order: Soondae + Rabboki I was unhappy with their food but was okay. First I just happen to eat here before I grocery shop at the Hankook market. I saw a picture menu that illustrates what they sell and they have laid out all the foods. However, I was so disappointed that they just microwave my soondae in the microwave. I hate when the food is microwaved because there is a lot of bad stuff that goes in when you microwave it. Also, according to the picture, the rabboki is much bigger and looks so delicious. However, when we got the food, the food was so small portion of food without any taste but just spiciness. Also, there aren't that much of spaces to eat because when the busy time (lunch or dinner), you have to share with other people or they just take our chairs because they needed it. I wouldn't recommend to go here personally, just go to Food Court inside Lawrence Plaza.

Soy bean paste soup. Korean soul food! Healed my cold.

This is not "trendy K-BBQ." This is craft. Premium Beef Sets The two beef platters show exactly why this restaurant has earned its reputation. Cuts are uniform, balanced, and beautifully marbled - not over-trimmed, not sloppy. You can tell each cut was selected with intent. And then comes the part that separates Jang Su Jang from the rest: The Ajeumma Grill Masters The ajumma who handle the grill are true specialists. They adjust heat, angle, and timing with an instinct that can't be engineered - it's earned through years of repetition. Fatty cuts get brief exposure to maximize aroma. Leaner cuts are rested, turned, and finished with restraint. Everything lands at the table tender, glossy, and perfectly rendered. This is the kind of skill you don't fake. Signature "Wang Mandu" Dumplings These oversized dumplings - often associated with Pyongyang/North Korean culinary tradition - are beautifully pleated, delicate, and generously filled. The wrapper stays thin; the interior stays juicy. A standout item, and a rarity in the Bay Area. Cold Noodles (Naengmyeon) A textbook bowl: * Broth clean and chilled * Buckwheat noodles with bounce instead of mush * Two precise slices of beef on top -- tender, thin, and chosen specifically because they don't fight the noodles' texture A lot of restaurants get this wrong; Jang Su Jang gets it exactly right. Spicy Shredded Beef Noodle Soup Deep red broth, long strands of tender shredded beef, and vegetables cut for texture rather than decoration. A bowl built for cold days, and executed with discipline. Service & Atmosphere Service here is closer to Korean fine dining than casual K-BBQ: * Full uniforms * Structured training * Staff who monitor your grill without interrupting * Adjusting cuts based on who's at the table * Cutting, rotating, and finishing the meat so you don't have to guess You feel taken care of - not rushed, not ignored. And yes, you'll leave with a little grill aroma on your clothes. That's the mark of a proper K-BBQ house - an imprint of the experience. A Note on Hanwoo If you truly want to experience Hanwoo, the most direct path is simple: from SFO or SJC, a few hours in the air puts you in Seoul eating the real thing. But within the Bay Area, Jang Su Jang is the closest expression of classical Korean grilling done right. If any restaurant here were to introduce Hanwoo one day, this is the one that deserves to serve it. In a region full of modern, high-tech, all-you-can-eat K-BBQ concepts, Jang Su Jang stands alone as the Bay Area's classical Korean reference point - precise, disciplined, and anchored in real craft. Five stars- on execution alone. - Dr C Only writing for what truly earns the stars.

You'll have to wait at least thirty minutes unless you get there extremely early. My party of nine was seated around 45 minutes after we first joined the waitlist. However, we were able to order our food ahead of time. The atmosphere of the restaurant was bustling and noisy, a super fun and casual spot. Our dishes arrived minutes after we sat down, which was impressive. There was also a variety of delicious side dishes, with various types of kimchi. The nine of us split two braised beef short rib dishes - and we were struggling to finish it all. The portion size is massive, which makes sense since it's a pretty penny. The meat was so tender, literally falling off the bone. There were a ton of potatoes, daikon, rice cake, and carrots as well. The entire dish was savory and delicious, pairing perfectly with rice. You can also specify your spice level. The medium spice was a fair amount of spice but not overpowering. I highly recommend getting the cheese on top, it provides a creamy contrast to the sharp flavors of the meat. I'm still thinking about the braised beef short rib - it was just that delicious!

A Korean Dining Experience That Belongs in a Different League…read more I've eaten Korean food all over the country -- LA, NYC, you name it -- and Kunjip Tofu in Mountain View is legitimately one of the best Korean dining experiences I've ever had. Full stop. This place is operating at a level that makes most Korean restaurants in the Bay Area look like they're still in the minor leagues. Let's start with the Crispy Chilean Seabass, because it deserves its own paragraph. The fish arrives beautifully seared with a perfectly charred exterior, flaky and impossibly moist inside, finished with fresh herbs and a side of wasabi. It's plated with the elegance of a fine dining course, not what you'd expect from a tofu house. The contrast of textures, that crispy skin against the silky white flesh, is something you'll be thinking about on the drive home. The Black Cod Tofu Soup (순두부찌개) arrives bubbling and volcanic in its stone vessel, a deep crimson broth that hits you with complex heat and umami before you even take a bite. The tofu is house-made, silken and cloud-soft, and the broth has layers of flavor that only come from a kitchen that actually cares about what goes into it. It's spicy, it's savory, it's soul-warming, and it's the kind of dish that converts people into Korean food obsessives. Then there's the Wagyu dish, and if you're a meat lover, buckle up. The A5 Wagyu is marbled like a painting and melts on your tongue with a richness that earns every dollar of the price tag. Whether you get it in the soup or as the galbi, the quality of the protein sets Kunjip apart from every other Korean spot in the South Bay. The Purple Rice is a beautiful detail that shows this kitchen sweats the small stuff. Nutty, slightly sticky, served in a polished copper bowl alongside your meal. Not a garnish. A statement. The Banchan (Side Dishes): Every entrée comes with an incredible spread of banchan, and I counted over ten distinct sides: kimchi, pickled cucumber, spicy radish, seasoned greens, braised anchovies, quail eggs, sweet pumpkin mash, and more. Refills are available, the staff keeps an eye on your table, and each one is clearly made in-house with intention. The kimchi alone is some of the best I've had at any restaurant. Service and Wait Times: Here's the most important thing to know before you go: call ahead. This place does not take online reservations the traditional way. Your best move is to call the restaurant directly to get on the list. If you walk in during peak dinner hours on a Friday or Saturday night, expect a wait of an hour or two, and it is absolutely worth it. Pro tip: Aim for between 2:00 and 5:00 PM on a weekday or weekend. It's the slowest window of the day and you'll practically walk right in. Midweek lunch is also a great option if your schedule allows. Either way, call ahead and save yourself the wait. The service itself is exceptional. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm without being overbearing. They know every item on the menu and will guide you well if it's your first time. Bottom Line: This is Michelin-caliber Korean food in a modern, beautifully designed space and it's right here in Mountain View. If you love Korean food, this is your spot. If you've never been into Korean food, Kunjip Tofu will change that. Come hungry, call ahead, and prepare to be blown away. 1962 W El Camino Real, Mountain View | (650) 282-5195
