After workout, we're craving something comforting but not too heavy, so we finally checked out this place. It is inside the food court next to Ranch 99, and the parking is easy since the lot is huge. There're plenty of Asian options around, and you can mix and match dishes or grab a drinks. The ordering process is smooth. You choose your cooking style, then pick white meat, dark meat, or a mix, and even whether you want the chicken skin. Chicken rice is highly recommended. The prices are very reasonable, and their packaging is great for takeout. The chicken thigh was cooked perfectly. The meat was moist with soy sauce and sesame oil seasoning. You also get to choose two sauces for the rice. The scallion ginger sauce and the Singaporean chilli sauce were both so flavorful and honestly took the whole dish to another level. I also have to call out the chicken soup that comes with the meal. You can really taste that it's made from chicken bones, and it is seasoned lightly enough that it doesn't leave us feeling thirsty afterward. Solid option! read more

It's an alternative to Rooster and Rice which is basically the Thai style hainan chicken rice. What I like about Chicken Meets Rice is that it has more than one style of chicken in that it also has fried chicken but then tbh the whole point of these kind of food is the hainan chicken so I'd recommend the steamed chicken with chicken rice instead of the other stuff on the menu. Chicken is tender and flavorful and I prefer this style of hainan chicken over the Cantonese style. This place also has other sauces (I love the spicy Singaporean sauce but it has a kick) in addition to the regular sauce. You order through the kiosk and pick up at the other end of the counter. This location is inside the small food court next to 99 Ranch and the food court is basically dying so I'm hoping it stays there. The noodle and the boba place pretty much died already. Service is good and courteous for a to go place. read more

This is located in the food court next to 99 Ranch with a big parking lot outside. Once you go in, there are a few restaurants inside. Some tables are not cleaned. Not sure if anyone clean up regularly. They have a couple kiosks in front of the restaurant for ordering. The Chicken Rice is ok. I thought it used to be better when we went to other location before. The chicken is tender, however, the chicken rice lacks chicken flavor. The chicken flavor is weak in the rice. It comes with a side salad, chicken broth and two sauces. For the chicken broth, the ginger flavor is too strong and it overpowers the chicken flavor. When you choose the sauce in the kiosk, it only shows the sauce names without any details of what's in it and how spicy each sauce is. It would have been nice if they could incorporate sauce ingredients and spice level in the kiosk menu, especially for people with allergies. The sauce we got was too spicy and the teriyaki sauce is too thick for Hainan Chicken. The traditional Hainan Chicken rice comes with a thinner seasoned soy sauce that we don't see it in the sauce list. read more

Amazing~ I have been a major lover of hainan chicken as that's the staple my parents have cooked for me throughout my childhood. Although nothing can beat my parents cooking, this place comes close to it. I ordered the 8 soy garlic fried wings and a bowl of the half hainan chicken and half grilled chicken with chicken rice. Chicken wings were decent. I felt the chicken was a little overcooked and batter was ok. The hainan chicken was made very well and the ginger and scallion sauce were perfection. The grilled chicken with the thai sauce was amazing. The chicken rice is so packed of love and soul. I felt rejuvenated for the rest of the day after! I heard from many friends that their coffee meets tea, and the other flavored teas they have are delicious too so I will try those next time. read more

Omg the wait was long bc it was a busy Friday but meal was the best i ever had! The chicken so soft even the white pieces are good tho the dark is even softer/more flavorful. I love the ginger scallion oil and i got the brown looking sauce this time and it was pretty good. Friend said the grilled chicken was good and enjoyed it as well. Love the salad dressing and fresh greens and overall just chef's kiss. Got the coffee meets thai and it's so good. Recommend! read more

Unlike the one on Tasman Drive, this one is a small store inside EatUp which is next to Ranch 99 on de Anza Blvd. Most customers use take out service but there's a common seating areas if you want to eat there. The food is always packed as take out with a brown paper bag. You order via a kiosk and you can use the loyalty rewards before checking out to reduce payment. They have improved the menu. I hated the pickled carrots and I don't seem to get them anymore. Love the chicken broth and the chicken rice as always. My go to bento which is also the cheapest is Hainan chicken of dark meat with no skin. Most workers there are busy assembling bento, but someone can always answer your questions. They have a screen showing the orders that are ready and the ones in process, I love this clear and efficient setup. Join their loyalty program, it's worth it! read more

Home run on my first time trying this via Doordash, delivered to Los Altos. We tried the Hainan chicken (delicious and tender), the fried chicken cutlets (which looked amazing), and the grilled chicken which was flavorful and great. The chicken rice is basically white rice, probably cooked in chicken broth, the brown rice was the same thing but brown (I did the 50/50 mix which was nice). Sauce wise, the hot chili cause was hot and the sweet chili sauce was great for those who didn't want hot. Overall, loved it. I will definitely be back. Tasty, healthy lunch. read more

A solid four star meal because I would say everywhere you go in Cupertino. It's gonna be pretty expensive but one of the things that's the most surprising I would say is the fact that they have something like this chicken rice that has been a popular staple in Hawker stalls and Singapore and other places that you finally get a franchise that they bring down here. Did it taste the same as those famous chicken rice places not really but it did have a good taste a little bit more saltier than what I would expect but overall I would say hey this is a great spot to catch a quick meal about 18 bucks I would say for one plate I will say on a weekend service took about 18 minutes just to get my plate so expect to wait . read more

The wings were sooo crispy and piping hot. The Hainan chicken was a teensy bit dry but the rice was savory without being too strong. Bring the extra sauce home for your own meal! There's plenty of seating inside of the food court for parties of all sizes. read more

Located in the back of the EatUp! dining hall by 99 Ranch supermarket is Chicken Meets Rice, an establishment that serves quality Hainanese chicken. Orders are placed on a kiosk in the front. They tend to get really busy due to online orders so prepare to wait. I ordered the split 2 protein (Hainan and grilled chicken) with chicken rice. Both styles of chicken were flavorful and juicy. It also paired well with the sauces. I picked the ginger scallion oil and Thai ginger soy -- both really good in its own way. It was a very balanced and protein forward meal which I loved! I was looking for a place to eat at on Christmas eve and went to several Asian restaurants and they were all closed during dinner time. My friend and I took a chance and drove to Chicken Meets Rice at the Ranch 99 food hall and luckily they were open. I have gone to CMR many times but the last time, I was disappointed because they changed the crispy chicken to some small pieces similar to popcorn chicken and it was not the same. You can see my previous photos and my photo from last night and you can totally see the difference. I didn't go back for several months until last night. Thank goodness they listened to their customers and the crispy chicken is back to the original recipe. My favorite sauces are the ginger scallion oil and the Singapore soy. Both sauces are great on the rice and chicken. The chicken rice is fluffy and has great flavor and to cap off the meal, the chicken broth. Ordering is easy on the kiosk and there's plenty of seating in the food hall. Thanks CMR for listening to your customers because the food is what will keep us coming back. read more

+ Food: I got one Hainan Chicken Box with extra meat and soya egg, and one crispy Fried Chicken (Cutlet) Box. They were both delicious. The egg was perfectly medium boiled. My favorite sauce is the ginger scallion. Singapore Chili sauce has a great kick! + Service: I ordered at the terminal and received my order in about 20 minutes. A little slow for a Friday afternoon at 3PM, but it was worth the wait. + Ambiance: The Eat Up food court has plenty of dining choices and available seating for a casual meal. CMR always hits the spot. Just like Hainanese chicken rice in Singapore, but without the 17-hour flight. Hainanese chicken rice is the national dish of Singapore. Although it's a simple dish, it's packed with flavor. For me, it's comfort in a bowl. Chicken meets rice does an amazing job of bringing the authentic flavors of this dish to the bay! My favorite is their hainan chicken box. Poached chicken is served over a bed of fragrant rice. What makes this dish extra special are the sauces. I always choose Singapore Chili and Singapore soy as my two sauces. I wish they allowed a 3rd free sauce because then I'd get the ginger scallion oil too! The dish is served with soup and a side salad. read more

My friend and I had lunch here today. They had two tablets for taking orders, which made the process smooth. I noticed they updated the way you order from the menu, but it was still easy to navigate, and I was able to get my usual. I ordered the split Hainan chicken and grilled chicken with chicken rice and soup. Everything was really flavorful, especially when dipped in the sauces--I went with the ginger scallion and Singapore soy. They were pretty busy, so my order took about 15 minutes, which was totally reasonable. The food court used to feel pretty empty with only about three restaurants, but now all the spots are filled. Fast food but make it healthy. I'm obsessed with this spot - simple whole natural meals of chicken, rice, and some veggies. Add a little bit of sauce and really, it can't get any better. Highly recommend their grilled chicken with rice and pair it with whatever sauce you desire. Chicken is juicy and marinated and never dry. Delicious every single time. Note this location is part of a food court area so more of a casual dining spot but the food is still stellar. Chefs kiss!!! read more

We arrived about 30 minutes before closing, but the restaurant was still taking orders, so we assumed it was fine to order. After waiting, the chicken we received was cold, it honestly felt like it came straight out of the refrigerator. I went back to complain, and they told me it was because of the time, which is unacceptable if you're still accepting orders. When it came time to issue a refund, the attitude was very unprofessional--no apology at all, and it felt like they were blaming me for the situation. If you don't want to serve food properly near closing time, then stop taking orders. Very disappointing experience. read more

I always have a regular craving for Hainan Chicken ever since I tried it from their menu. Poached chicken, yes! And they have tasty sauces to add flavor to the chicken. Just writing about it, gives me cravings. I always get the dark meat with skin (it's poached anyways, still healthier!) For the sauce, you get to choose 2, and I like the Thai Ginger and the Ginger Scallion. I pair it with their chicken rice, plus add that pickled vegetable included in the plate and you have a simple but tasty meal! They can get busy on weekdays lunch hour, so I order ahead for pick up. There are tables in that food court and you can dine there. I like the ambiance because it's relaxed. Sometimes you just want to focus on the food. Back to basics. Pretty good hainan chicken in the Bay. Located inside a food court in Cupertino, Chicken Meets Rice sells a variety of different chicken and rice options, served with some delicious sauce. I went with the Hainan Chicken Box (dark meat no skin), with half chicken rice and half veggies, served with Singapore Chili and Ginger Scallion Oil and chicken broth. I really enjoyed the taste of the chicken and rice! The Ginger Scallion Oil was easily the better sauce. I wouldn't get the Singapore Chili sauce again. The portion was pretty big too and filled me up. We ordered online for pickup and they were super busy. The wait ended up being pretty long (20 mins after the original pickup time). read more

Chicken is generally over cooked here and ginger sides came way more oil than ginger. Workers seem to be inexperienced high schoolers. Gave me wrong order, I ordered Hainan chicken with skin but half came out wrong(No skin). Ask clerk why chicken was half skinned, the guy said something about process of filleting the chicken which has nothing to do with whether chicken having skin or not. Left feeling unsatisfied and not recommending this place to others. read more

Second attempt coming to Chicken Meets Rice. My first try a few weeks before, came in about 30 min to an hour after they opened, and staff mentioned most of their chicken was going to take another hour to be available so I left to maybe try again in the near future. I ordered: -$14 hainan chicken box, mixed meat with skin, chicken rice -sauces, CMR (thai ginger soy) and ginger scallion oil -chicken broth Pricey for the amount of chicken you get. Mainly chicken rice fills the weight of the bowl, and the rice is just average. It took the food quite a long time to come out. Close to 20 minutes. The location definitely gets a lot of Doordash orders. Parking is usually pretty easy to find in the plaza. read more

The first time I was here, I thought that the food was acceptable even though it wasn't exactly what I hoped for how Hainan chicken rice should be. So this time I was in the area again, and felt like having chicken rice again. I got there around 3:20pm so I was really hungry, I ordered exactly the same combo as I did last time, I paid the same price and same way I did last time. I took my order away to the nearby table, only the find that my boxed chicken rice looked like they were chicken scraps roughly scattered on the rice, like they didn't even try to plate it up nicely and pretend that's just how it is, I had to double checked my receipt and make sure I wasn't charged for half thee price for chicken scraps. And no I indeed paid full price for these horrendous chicken scraps! The photo I took was the moment I open the box, before I even touch anything, and the chicken were just as tough and dry as it looks! Needless to say, I won't be returning less recommending it to anyone! read more

I was reeeally craving Hainan chicken rice and stumbled upon this place through the positive Yelp reviews. SO glad I came to try!! We got one Hainan chicken box and one fried chicken box with the ginger scallion, thai chili, teriyaki, and Singapore sauces. There isn't really a dine in option since the storefront is fairly small and located within the 99 Ranch plaza food court, but the takeout option was really convenient and the online ordering system was easy to use. Loved how clean and bright the store was and how friendly staff were when I went to pick up my order. Hainan chicken ($14) was SO good- simple really is best with these specific dishes. I really liked the ginger scallion sauce as well. The only thing was I wasn't as big a fan of the skin, it was a little too chewy for my liking. Fried chicken rice ($14) was also surprisingly good!! Loved how crispy yet tender the chicken was (and it paired really well with the teriyaki sauce). This place had great value for the portions, and I was pretty happy with the taste!
