Terrible and scary experience here today. We found a small metal wire that resembles the same type found in the steel brushes used to clean woks or pans. We were already halfway into the meal when we discovered this. Thank goodness my 2 year old and 5 year old sharing this food didn't encounter it. Also, my wife ordered the broccoli beef and you can clearly tell they were cutting corners using old broccoli because the broccoli had specs of black dots inside the stalk that permeated out into the floret. It was disgusting but we had already driven too far to return. This is all on top of the fact that it was a mediocre sub par quality Chinese fast food. We were first taken in by the fried rice and chow mein because it actually looked dressed up with lots of ingredients unlike the sad 2-3 ingredient fried rice and chow mein you get at Panda Express. This is one of those 2, 3, 4 item quick pick Chinese food places, except 1 of your item quotas must be the fried rice or chowmein. I chose the 3 item option with half and half fried rice and chowmein, and eggplant tofu and beef & broccoli. They give you huge portions so a 3 item plate is definitely shareable between 2 people. I must have walked past Wok's On Express more times than I can count since we became SVL residents over 5 years ago but only recently have I gone in to buy a la carte takeout for potlucks. The potlucks we get invited to have a diversified crowd: South Asians, Filipino, Chinese, Hispanics, Afghan and Whites and everybody loves what I bring from Wok's On Express. Their secret ingredient must be cocaine or something similarly addictive, they just can't get enough of it. First and foremost ... let me just get this out there... as this was my first visit and I didn't know... Your "side" dish is part of your "item" count... so be aware if you get a rice or noodle dish paired with two more entrees, technically that is a 3-Item plate. There are a few "sneaky ways" you can end up getting up-charged for menu items, so make sure to take note of prices before you add them to your order! One is the item count I mentioned from above, and the other is that certain items are considered "premium" like shrimp, etc. So be mindful! On the particular day I visited, the line was short but took a while as the gentleman up front had some trouble with the cash register and understanding that I wanted to add a drink to my order. All in all, this is your average run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurant. Clean, decent portions and lots of variety. Food was decent enough, but didn't impress. Service and seating space could use an upgrade... but ... you get what you pay for. Good. Food was just getting packed up when we arrived for pickup. Web ordering was great. Bad. Rice was overcooked or had been sitting in the pan for too long. Mushy and inedible. 1/31/2024 Came here around 11:45am. My friend wanted to try this so I also tagged along. The system is similar to Panda Express but it needs lots of help. I got three item plate w soup: chao mian, broccoli shrimp, Mongolian beef, and hot sour soup ($14.95). Apparently, the first item is fried rice or chao mian (cannot be changed) The inside wasn't bad and the service was mid. The portion size was good and you can see that they filled the box all the way. However!!! The noodles were extremely bland. The broccoli and shrimp were good. The Mongolian beef was alright, the onions in it needs to be cooked longer though. I do like the soup but there wasn't a whole lot of ingredients put in. A major thing was that I was charged more that necessary. Probably because the cashier was an old frail Grandpa. I was charged $17.95 for a supposedly $16.30 meal (if you include tax) I didn't want to argue and just pretended that I tipped. But and $16 meal for this ?!? My first time back in a few months. They stepped up their pork fried rice game. The past couple years, it has gotten dry and less flavorful. Still decent, but nothing noteworthy. They were closed for a long time after maybe a fire a while back. Was a good and easy place for cheap American Chinese food. But ever since reopening the chicken dishes (ones with battered/fried pieces) have mostly been super dry and stringy. Would be a good time to maybe fix some of your food prep. The salt and pepper fish was STALE (?), the orange chicken was bland, everything tasted old, off...just horrible. No MSG, large portions and fair prices. fast forward post pandemic and not been there in a few years, and I got my previous: chow main, spicy eggplant and tofu, 5 flavor chicken, and peppered chicken. all of these fell "flat" in flavor to me. just greasy and "meh." don't know if it was just a bad day or my taste buds are muted two weeks post Covid, but I was underwhelmed and sad since I had a craving for it and was disappointed. on the taste bud issue: I don't think it was my taste buds because the hot and sour soup was just fine. will go back another time to give it another shot, but not not excited to do it any time soon. read more

I saw in their menu they had things like Tien Fu fried rice, Tien Fu chow mein and Tien Fu chow fun and it made me curious what Tien Fu was so I gave them all a try. To my surprise they were all so fragrant and I especially loved the Tien Fu chow fun which was so flavorful. The texture was definitely there in terms of chewiness but the chow mein just wasn't good, however it also wasn't bad. It was just meh. Wouldn't recommend. Five flavor chicken: The flavor was good but the chicken was stringy and it wasn't crispy or anything. My boyfriend thought this was amazing but I didn't like how it was a bit dry on the inside. I'd recommend it if you came here and didn't know what to order though because it isn't bad it's alright! Broccoli beef: Their broccoli is steamed to perfection! However we did not enjoy the beef because it was on the chewy and rougher side. Wouldn't recommend unless you just wanted steamed broccoli in a light sauce then maybe you could ask them for broccoli beef as one of your items but only ask for the broccoli! Hot and sour soup: This was not good at all I would pass on soup altogether because even though it's free it just had a bad taste to it. Would not recommend. The service was great and their portions are pretty good! It's also VERY clean and well kept which I was surprised about. This place has been around since 1997, when I was still married to my ex. Didn't come here too often then, as my ex was a great cook of Chinese food. Only after I remarried in 2003 did I come here more often, as my current wife doesn't know how to cook Chinese. 9 minute walk from my house. Same shopping center at Peets Coffee, Habit Hamburger, Tacos Jalapa, Boudins, Noodle Talk, all of which are open for take out during the pandemic. Wok On had to survive a price war with Safeway's Chinese 200 yards away, and then the kitchen fire, which closed the place from November 2018 through January 2020. They reopened in late February 2020, just in time for the pandemic. Talk about bad timing! When they reopened the express line 2 items went from $8.50 to $9.95, the 3 item went from $9.50 to $11.75 and the 4 item went from $10.95 to $13.50. One item must be rice or noodles. Comes with soup of the day. The Mongolian beef comes with beef and sliced white onions barely cooked-crunchy just the way I like them. The beef comes without green onions and is on the tough side, tougher than my ex! The Kung Pao chicken has no red peppers, lots of squash and zucchini, little chicken, and not spicy. The chicken chow mein is on the greasy side, but good. Best seller here. Sometimes when they run low on the chicken chow mein, the cook dumps the vegetarian chow mein on top of it. The curry chicken is great when they have it, but salty -cook must have used tablespoons instead of teaspoons of salt. Also a lot of filler with carrots and potatoes. The black pepper chicken is my favorite dish here. Nice savory slices of chicken lightly breaded, with lots of flavor. The Tien Fu chicken is diced chicken pieces with more bamboo shoots than chicken, but is a decent vegetarian dish. The hot and sour soup is meatless, with bamboo shoots, egg whites, carrot slices -lots of vinegar, no pork let alone shrimp. Wife is huge hot and sour soup fan, and we fight over this dish. Wok On prices are $9.95, $11.75, and $13.50 compared to $7,$8.50, and $10 for Panda Express, 1 mile down El Camino Real. However, I weighed their food for the $13.50, and it was 59.2 ounces, compared to 28.9 ounces for Panda Express. For $3.50 extra, you get twice as much food! They advertise no msg, so no need to drink water like a house on fire! read more

GRAND OPENING!! Thank the lord this place is finally open! I've been waiting for Wok's On to open again. It was a drought and Panda will not just cut it. I just came back from Wok's an hour ago and it was the same experience. The only difference is the digital menu, more clear and spacious seating, and the prices raised by maybe $.75 or even a little less than a dollar. They still serve large portions, they still provide egg drop soup with your meal, and the food is still the same. I think they did however reduce the salt and bold ingredients from some of the food like their fried rice and chow main but nonetheless, it was good. I really missed the food. My favorite items are their salt and pepper chicken, chicken chow main, egg plant, and sweet and sour chicken. Wok's On is that true neighborhood hole-in-the-wall Chinese food spot where locals come to gather for authentic cuisine. It's a true staple in Sunnyvale. WOK'S ON IS BACK IN ACTION!! read more

Unfortunately I got a craving on a Sunday when my go to Chinese restaurants were closed. The place I usually go to has a similar set up with the pre-made items. I ordered off the menu bc all the veggies looked overcooked. I ordered a veggie deluxe with chicken added. There seemed to be much discussion about what veggies the guys in the kitchen were going to give me. Once I got home, the only veggie I got was broccoli.
