Ordered takeout from here after wanting some Thai food. The pad see ew with tofu had a spicy taste to it with some sweetness underneath. The noodles had the right texture and there was a lot of tofu in it. It was cooked well and the sauce worked well with the noodles. The yellow curry had a lot of vegetables and was on the liquidier side. I ate it more like a soup than a curry, but it still tasted good. The Thai iced tea was very sweet, just how it should be. We visited Thai Spoons on a Saturday evening, and there was no wait time. Inside is small, but the environment feels very cozy. The staff were also very warm. We ordered the green curry, chicken satay, pad see ew and a side of jasmine rice. All items were so flavorful and the portions were enough for my husband and I to have leftovers. 3.5 Pretty standard casual Thai restaurant. Their variety isn't as much as other Thai restaurants but they do have some stuff I don't normally see at others... For example the panang nue and the curry delights which are basically the curries with different and imo possibly better veggies. Prices are 10-35% more than some places depending on who you compare against. You can get a pad Thai at other spots for bout 13-18$ but here it's $20. They do pack the Togo box all the way full tho AND they did not skimp out on the protein...my curries both had tons of chicken and beef. Food: Pad Thai- Above average pad Thai. I really enjoyed the flavors. Noodles were solid and decently chewy... I've had stale noodles before which I hate. Garlic fried rice- good and very flavorful but also pretty salty or could be msg. Yellow curry- decent curry. Flavor was just ok I've had better. Tons of chicken though. Panang nue- based on the penang curry. It's similar but not as gritty, nutty, pasty/thick. It was def a bit more watery than I would have liked. There was also quite a bit of oil which I've never seen a penang curry do. I think it could have also used a lil more veggies but it was packed full of beef which is a pro if you're just looking for protein. Overall, decent Thai spot. I will start by saying this is obviously a very cute, family owned restaurant. There's pictures of the family on the menu and a sign it has been there for over 30 years. The server was very helpful in answering all my questions about the menu. But the menu has a strange layout, and it felt a bit overwhelming although not authentic; likely because it's being packaged for a non-Asian audience. We got the yellow chicken curry, pad khing with shrimp, and a Thai iced tea with two sides of rice. The curry was sweet and not that spicy. The pad Khing was heavy on the vegetables, which were crisp and plentiful, and came with about 6 shrimp. It wasn't particularly unique. The rice was just the right amount. It's fine for the atmosphere but not someplace I would go again for more authentic food. read more

Nice and convenient Thai place to order for to go. I tried ordering directly through them online since they had the lunch combo box, which was not on Door Dash or Uber Eats. However, I had trouble as the payment would not go through. I tried several cards and had other people tried, to conclude that it was not just me. In the end, I ended up calling them right when they open to place my order. It was quick and ready in about 15 minutes. I got the half half rice combo with basil chicken, chicken eggplant, and added a third item for an extra $1, to which I got the panang nue. Meanwhile my friends got an order of the tom yum soup and two pad thais, both which they liked. I liked the combo more since I got a variety of things for almost the same price, if not cheaper than their items. Overall, it was quick and easy. Parking was easy too. Red curry $19+$2 steak, we asked for highest spiciness level 4 but it was served as level 1. We even asked for extra chili . Tom Kha coconut soup $19 with mixed seafood +$6. We have been enjoying our favorite Thai delights since before the pandemic. It's always a treat to dine at Thai Poons. The food is amazing and the hospitality is incomparable. I can't emphasize enough that this is one of my favorite Thai food spots in the Bay Area! Not only is the food SO delicious, the staff here is extremely friendly and accommodating. I never had my Togo boxes so well packaged and ready so quick! My all time favorite is their Lunch combos. You have the option for two entrees or three entrees. For an extra dollar, I recommend the three entrees so you can try more food (every thing is 10/10 personally). It's similar to Panda Express where you ask them what you want and they put it on a plate for you. I think it's efficient and you can eat right away (great for work lunches and time crunches) My all time favorite dishes are the eggplant delight, the pad ped fried chicken, basil chicken, egg omelette, and the beef red curry! FYI if they ever run low on an item they make it fresh for you. Super hearty, comforting, and delicious. The chicken is well fried and seasoned to perfection. I took my 90 year old mom to the Thai Spoons restaurant in Sunnyvale for a quick lunch meal, it's a buffet-style counter restaurant that you point to what you want to eat, the employee dishes it out into a portioned container, you pay for it, and then you sit down to eat at the small tables. The dishes were filling and tasty enough for the particular dishes that we each chose for ourselves, plus we brought home an additional takeout container for my brother and chose a different set of dishes for him. The food was fresh and many working people came here during lunch to patronize the restaurant. Some people sat down to eat their meal, others took out several containers in plastic bags to take them back to their fellow employees. The restaurant has lunch specials for the budget conscious, with extremely competitive prices, which also made this place popular. It's located in a convenient location, with plenty of free parking, and the restaurant staff were pretty nice and friendly to us. Do try this place out for a quick bite, especially if you're on a tight I'm sure that you wouldn't be disappointed. the portions are very generous. ordered the pad thai, pad kee mao, green curry, & red curry. food was ready for pick up as soon as I arrived and you can tell they are extremely well organized. they have a good buy one get one free deal through Uber eats ($20 for 2 dishes is a steal!). that said, the flavor of the food itself was ok and definitely different / not my favorite compared to many other Thai restaurants I've tried. the pad thai was decent, but I wouldn't recommend the flavor of the green curry. overall this place is definitely a good deal, but the flavor of the food might not entice me to return. read more

We ended up ordering: * pad thai - this was ok but we got it with pork belly which was nice. Portions here are generous though but not my favorite in terms of flavor * green curry - this was yummy and not as strong in flavor as I'd want it but as I kept eating it more I enjoyed this dish. Been to this family own restaurant many years ago when I was still living in the bay area and now in the valley... the foods still taste the same but slightly diff but they made a change and was very nice to ask us how was the food and if there any changes we can make? TLDR: Good Pad See Ew. Friendly staff It's a small space and to get to the bathroom, you have to go outside and go in from the rear of the restaurant. I guess the kitchen is too big and in the way... My go-to dish is always Pad See Ew. It's a slightly sweet and salty noodle dish, that I prefer more than the tangy and more familiar pad thai. The chicken pieces were thin, a bit dry, but not that bad. I like the noodles and the fact that they include broccoli mixed in. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. All of them (the guy and 3 gals) had smiles on their face when they addressed me, which made me feel very welcome. I think I'll be coming back here, as it's close by. read more

My friends and I came here for dinner so we had everything family style, which was great because it kept the price low. For the most part, everything was decently good, and not amazingly spectacular, but there were items that stood out still. Some of my friends that lived in Sunnyvale were frequent visitors and mentioned how much they returned because they liked the food, and I could definitely see why. To me, the pad see ew and the red curry tasted very authentic and very similar to what I have had in other Thai restaurants across the country, which was a good thing and I definitely had nothing to complain. I thought the spicy fried rice was really good because it had a level of spice that provided flavor instead of overwhelmingly spicy and nothing else, if that makes sense. I also enjoyed the mango & sticky rice, but would love a bit more rice and coconut milk because there was a good amount of fresh mango. Otherwise, I don't have other comments because I don't know what else to say other than the fact that this is a very authentic small Thai restaurant and I think that by itself should be a good indicator that it's worth returning to. read more

Feeding my thai food craving here at Thai Spoons in Sunnyvale CA. This was Wendi and my favorite lunch spot when we were dating over 30 years ago. We used to eat here when they first open back in 1994. The food remains as delicious as I remember. Our favorite dish is their chicken pad ped, which is amazing and is very hard to find on the menu at other Thai restaurants. The spicy and garlic fried rices are a crowd pleaser, especially with the pork belly. Pad see ew was a bit smokey and not too oily; it was one of the better versions I've had. Panang beef curry was tasty. Red curry was good because I'm a fan of bamboo shoots. I will happily eat their tom yum, but it needs more lime leaf and lemongrass flavor. read more

The place is a little on the cramped size and offered cafeteria style entrees in chafing pans behind the counter. The dozen+ choices were clearly labeled. It was mostly self serve. We both got the 2 choice for $14 with rice. Most of the entrees were veggie or chicken. Our selections were okay, nothing special and not exactly full of Thai spice flavor. The interior was clean and nicely decorated with flowers on the ceiling! The staff were friendly and were conversing with other tables. Prices are a little higher than average, but for the quality, I would say it's worth it! More notes on dishes: Pad Kee Mao: Noodles were chewy and the perfect level of (medium) spice. I've been coming here for a long time, and over the years, it has only gotten better. I was genuinely sad when they closed for renovations, but now I'm happier than ever that they've reopened. Thai Spoons stands out not only because the food is consistently fresh and delicious, but also because they operate with integrity. They clearly care about the quality of their ingredients, and you can taste the difference in every dish. It's rare to find a restaurant that values ethics as much as flavor.
