Pho Nam is one of my favorite pho place in the area. I am a frequent (usually during the work week lunch time). I typically order the house special combination pho (#1) and the pho and meats taste fresh and great (definitely not those pre frozen fast food like ones). The service is great too. Even during the busy time during the week day lunch, they are able to serve in a timely fashion. The restaurant has been in that strip mall for a long time. I've tried countless pho spots across the Bay Area, but I always found myself going back to my all-time favorite--Pho Kim Long. Even after checking out numerous places recommended by my Vietnamese friends, none of them quite hit the mark when it came to satisfying my pho cravings--until now. Since moving to Sunnyvale, I decided to explore local options and stumbled upon this unassuming pho restaurant near my home. The exterior isn't flashy, but it gave off a very authentic, Vietnam-street-vendor vibe that immediately caught my attention. To my surprise, this was the only pho place I've come across in over 30 years in the Bay Area that also includes Korean language on the menu--a rare and interesting find. Even more surprising? The pho here was not only delicious but also more affordable than Pho Kim Long and most others in the area. The quality held up just as well, if not better. Honestly, it was very good. Enjoyed my early weekday dinner at Pho Nam. The atmosphere was cozy and lowkey, and everyone else around us seemed to also be enjoying the food and atmosphere. They have a pretty extensive selection of items. I ordered the small #1 which was the perfect portion for me. Food came out super quick. The meat was thin and had good texture, and the broth was deep in flavor and savoriness. I like that they also do a drink + entree combo option, and might come back to try their drinks. We also ordered the eggrolls (2pcs) and I like that they use a slightly different wrap than traditional eggrolls. Seems they take cash for orders under $20 (as of this review). Service was quick and friendly. There were zero issues parking in the plaza lot. Honestly I've been looking for a good local pho spot and while there aren't as many options as the SJ VN town area, I'd say this is a pretty decent option in Sunnyvale. I usually get their pho tai chin nam, the broth is good and portion size is appropriate. Other favorite dishes are bun thit Nuong (grilled pork and cold noodles) and the Bo kho (beef stew). Their rice plates are pretty good too. When my mom doesn't want to cook, we'll order from here. My parents are pretty picky with Vietnamese food, so you know it's authentic. Pho nam is a small hole in the wall right next to AMC Mercado. The cashier lets you pay separately for splitting up credit cards so its nice. The pho is pretty standard san jose Pho but the waiters are nicer and more accommodating. Parking is limited in front but if you park on the side theres plenty of parking. It's been a while since we've come here for lunch. The place is still the same with old attentive service, delicious pho and great price. The pho broth is always flavorful and plentiful with meats and noodles. The prices have gone up but still less expensive than many restaurants around. For lunch with time is the essence, the food delivered quite quickly. I love this place and only come here if I need a hot bowl of pho. For 2 people is less than $30 including tax. I ordered the spring rolls, I got two for $4.55. It reminded me of how my friend's mom made them, which was perfect. I ate it so fast that I didn't even take a picture. I did order the beef stew with noodles. You can choose from bread, noodles, or rice. The noodles is like pho noodles. The soup was delicious and full of flavor. The broth and the soup was meaty. Also, the carrots was soft. I asked for extra onions and cilantro because I like a lot of it. The price for my meal was only $20. I'm pretty impressed for being in the Bay Area. Next time, I want to try their smoothies. They all looked good. This may be my spot for Vietnamese food especially because it's local owned and I try to support those places the most. read more

When my husband was with another company he and a bunch of the guys would frequent this place. So about a month ago when the hubsters received his booster I told him we should grab some pho. This place came to mind. We've been a few times. It's located off HWY 101 and is along a small strip of stores and a bar. It was a Friday at about 6PM and we walked in and there were only two tables occupied, so we were seated right away. The person whom greeted us at the door took our drink orders as he seated us and handed us our menus. My husband ordered a large seafood pho. I ordered a small bowl of meatball pho and an order of spring roll. Food came out pretty fast. Broth was everything you need pho to be. Ingredients were fresh. Produce was vibrant in color and you are served plenty. I requested some sliced onions in vinegar and added some hoison and sriracha to it to enjoy with every bite. The only off putting this about this last visit was that the back door to the restaurant was open and there was people smoking out back. We could smell it the entire time, so it kind of messed with our meal. I don't know if it was workers from the restaurant or if it was from patrons/employees from the bar next door. Either way, might wanna keep that back door closed if that's where people are taking their smoke breaks. read more

My wife and I are regulars at this restaurant and it is one of our go-to Pho places. All beef Pho, Chicken Pho, all good. Same with the rice plates. The food for the price is decent but what really sells is the service. I recommend sticking to pho and rice plates. The food is decent but again, the convenience really sells it for me. As for the service, they've always treated me well. As soon as I walk in, I get seated and taken care of. I've even had waiters and waitress give a little extra when I order. They always check up and are very attentive if you get a table. The place us older, and it seems lke a hole in the wall, but the abiance is nice. It's homey. Since I live just a 5min walk, I tend to take the food to go. But when I do eat there it feels homey. Pho Nam is a great Vietnamese place to hit up if you're around. old fashioned restaurant but very good. I am amazed everything is so cheap. You can get small Pho for less than 13.50, Large Pho for 14.95 ? The amazing thing is you can add special Drinks ( Thai Ice tea, Red bean drink, Mix bean drink) for only 2.75 more. Normally the Sweet Mix bean drinks are $ 5 but if you combine it with Pho, the total is only $ 17.75 ( for both Special Drink and Large/Small Pho. So that is good deal. But you cannot get the Smoothie ( avo smooth, or Real Fruit Smoothies are separate, not part of combo). And the Rice Rolls are only $ 4.95 ( shrimp) $ 4.55 (pork). Most appetizer Rice Rolls are over 6 or 10 at other Pho places so 4.95 here is super cheap. You can also get Fried Spring Roll for 3.95 for 2 rolls. They give you alot of meat in the Large Pho. They put so much Meat/ Noodle in the bowl, you hardly have Room for the tons of bean sprouts they give you ( they give tons of Basil/Jalapeno). I wish the Bowl for Large pho was bigger ( easier to eat?) because they give you so much it is crowded inside the bowl. But because it is so cheap, you cannot complain. I just wish the Pho was a little hotter, but they do give you a container of hot water. I am slow eater, so I could barely finish my Pho. I really wanted to try the rice rolls ( Shrimp) but my Mom start to eat my appetizer with Peanut sauce. She ate almost the whole appetizer and I got the last bite. I gave her my Pho, she did not eat it because it was so full of ingredients ( which got cold) and she had breakfast so she was not too hungry. She wanted to eat my Mix Bean Drink with Coconut cream so I gave her half. i recommend that you bring cash. They accept Credit but you pay 3.99 percent. So my Dads bill was over $45 dollar so he only had to pay $ 2 on credit card. I do recommend you bring cash and not do the credit card ( so you save $ 2 dollars on say a 50 dollar bill). And so you can tip them more if you save the 2 dollars. i was embarrassed because Dad only tip them 10 percent. I was mad at my Dad for tip only 10 percent, since he normally tip 18 percent. Maybe he did not like it he had to pay 2 dollars to use his credit card. I think under 20 you have to pay cash as I read other people review and mention that under $20 you pay cash? This is because Credit card company charges the restaurant for people to use Credit and since they are Old Fashion restaurant and dont charge you much for the food, they cannot afford to pay the 3.99 percent for your credit card. Their Credit machine or system might be on an older machine. I wish this Pho place was closer to where we live. It is North Lawrence Expressway...a block South of Tasman ( near 237). read more

Excellent service and I personally really like the outdated decor inside. I usually get the pho ga even though I'm not a big fan of dark meat in my pho, but the pho tai chin nam is pretty good too. The spring rolls are alright, but a little dry(?) in my opinion even with the peanut sauce. One small gripe I have is that the straw that comes with the red bean drink is too small to actually suck up the beans while you're taking a sip, but maybe it's just Vietnamese style dessert. read more
