Joy Wok is a cute little restaurant hidden around the corner from Lucky. It is quite small, and most of the food is like a Panda Express type ordering system. The orange chicken and spicy chicken wings were tasty. It was a little hard to know what each entree was, as they weren't labeled. I'm guessing this place is mostly regulars who come in and out because of the lack of labels. Each plate was a little less than $13 and I think you are definitely getting what you pay for. If you want to eat here, I would say choose somewhere else. The best thing about it was the price, $12.55 out the door for some orange chicken, rice, chow mein, and 1 egg roll. And Wok On was charging $16.95 for three items, soup and noodle. Time to look elsewhere. Always go to Lucky for their lowest priced Atlantic salmon, today $6.99/lb. Have to drive 4 miles round trip, through maybe 10 traffic lights each way. Next to Lucky is Joy Wok, a hole in the wall restaurant, with maybe three tables, as everyone does take out here. Food sitting in vats of hot water. $10.50 for noodles/rice and two items, $12.50 for three items. I always get the same thing: orange chicken, two orders of spicy fish, and noodles. Their chicken is really tangy, and their noodles greasy just the way I like it. Wife loves their spicy fish, each order of 4 strips of fish, lightly breaded, and hot and spicy. Can't find this elsewhere. The spicy fish is in the same vat every time, right in the middle in the second row. I am a very picky eater so I try to bear that in mind when handing out the stars but there's a reason why Joy Wok is so cheap and it's not a good reason. Last night I ordered Chicken Fried Rice and Sweet & Sour Pork via GrubHub. When I first pulled the containers out of the bag I thought to myself, "Well that's an interesting smell." The rice looked as though it had been made sometime last week. Everything in it was a lovely shade of beige, including the peas. The chicken was quite ... rubbery and didn't taste like any chicken I've ever eaten. I held out hope for the Sweet & Sour Pork despite it's violent color. If you're a big fan of deep fried pork gristle this just might become your next favorite meal! Two mouthfuls of rice and two mouthfuls of pork and my dinner was on it's way to the garbage can. My hot and sour soup was JUST sour. So so so sour! As if it was cooked a week or more ago -- ate one spoonful and poured it straight down the drain. A hidden gem for their banh mi and soups. Banh Mi (4/5): I get the Combination 1B Banh Mi (ham + pork roll) every time, the meats are fresh and tasty - there are about 3 cuts of meat + pâté. BIGGEST issue is that I don't taste any "bo" or butter on the bread. I really wish they put more butter. Soups (5/5): The hot and sour soup and wonton soup are seasoned for the soul! Garnished with fried shallots and fresh cilantro. The taste takes me back to the jubilant, bustling street food stalls of Vietnam/Asia. BEST thing about it is that it's only $5!! Great price! Personally I order their hot food or their banh mi's since the price is right for the generous amount of food they give you. For food off their 'regular' menu, I personally recommend the Won Ton soup or the rice places!! I don't think we would have ever come here if it weren't for a power outage at the restaurant that we originally went to. We craving some banh mi, but when we arrived at our go-to place we were dismayed to discover that they had lost power due to a utility pole repair down the street. On the sign on their door, they mentioned that the same sandwiches could be found at Joy Wok, so we made our way over here. This place of course has more than just banh mi, and is one of your typical ready-to-eat buffet sort of places, where you construct a plate with the items behind the glass. In addition, they offer fish and chips, and I just couldn't resist giving this a try because I will never turn down the opportunity to eat fish and chips. We did order one banh mi as well. The overall verdict was mixed. The sandwich was fine, but the bread didn't have that nice crusty texture that we have come to expect at our regular haunt. As for the fish, I had high hopes when it came out because it was surprisingly large, with two fairly enormous planks of fish on a large bed of fries. It was blisteringly hot when it was brought to our table. Sadly, this really fell short. Both the breading and the fish itself was lacking in flavor. The person behind the counter said that they use swai, which in my experience is a very mildly flavored fish and does require some seasoning in order to make it enjoyable. The breading should have taken care of that, but unfortunately it was also kind of bland. It was also too thick, and there were some parts of the batter that we still a little soggy. Happy to have a new Chinese restaurant in Sunnyvale! Ordered a two item plate from them (comes with two items + rice/chow mein). They had run out of chow mein which was a bummer so I ended up getting orange chicken, Mongolian beef and fried rice. We were there for dinner so the menu was made to order versus having things pre-made (which I assume is how lunch is done based on their layout). Pricing was fair: $7.69 for a two item combo. Food was pretty good. Orange chicken was good and I would order it again. I think I would have preferred chow mein so I will try that next time! Great local spot for Chinese! Highly recommend trying the special noodle soup - it blew my mind

This is their "1 side" meal from their hot bar. I didn't realize 1 side meant to fill only 1 side. If I did, I would have spent the extra dollar and go for 2 sides. Quality is about the same as Panda Express, which to clarify now, I'm not a fan of either. I will give them the extra star because their "banh mi" is better than average in this area of Sunnyvale (granted it's been over a year since I've ordered one of those from here). Needless to say, I won't be ordering from the hot bar again. May change my rating if I decide to come back and go for a banh mi next time. read more

I'm a casual guy, so to me this place is first rate. It's a neighborhood small business. For what it is, its at the top of its class. I've never had anything here that I didn't like. Tonight alone, I had the Mongolian Beef, Broccoli Beef, Sesame Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork, and BBQ Pork Fried Rice. All of it was terrific. Especially the Fried Rice, which I'm now adding to my favorite dishes here. Which includes Orange Chicken, Egg Rolls, Pot Stickers and Chicken Chow Mein. The people here are very nice. We tried the following items: Broccoli Beef Chicken Fried Rice Fried Rice Chow Mein Sesame Chicken Sweet & Sour Pork All the items were very salty. I would rate all items a 2 on there own except the Sweet & Sour Pork that was definitely a 5! The cashier/server was friendly. The restaurant clean. The price was standard about $6.00 an order. Once again Yelp directs me to a place to eat. In town for work for a while and I need to find new haunts. This one I will come back to because it's pretty good and inexpensive. I had the Wor Wonton Soup because it's now cold enough to have it. Plenty of dumplings and pieces of brocolli, beef and chicken and a surprising number of shrimp too. No skimpy portions here. The soup is staming hot so I decide to tackle my fried dumplings while I wait for it to cool off. I think I got 10 froed dumplings for under 4 bucks and by the time I mowed through the ten ..... my soup was still too hot. after a little while I'm able to sip my soup without scalding my tongue and it's good... I mean really good! By the time I'm done with my soup and all the meat, shrimp and wontons in it I'm in a food coma and happy as a little clam.
