The alleyway in the middle of the block was closed for construction and walked around the block to cross Castro. It's a cozy table, bench and counter setup. Some of the tables are used for prep by the staff. I ordered the spicy beef stew noodles which was brought shortly. Lots of tender stewed beef chunks with tendon in a shoyu based broth with flecks of chili pepper flakes to make it "spicy". The noodles were wide, flat and nicely chewy. Ambiance: Queen House is a small Taiwanese restaurant with an attached boba shop next door for a dessert drink after your meal. There is a combination of booths and tables present with some traditional decor but the place is a bit of a dive in looks as well. Wait Time: Practically no wait time most nights and take out is also quick and efficient. Service: The staff seem friendly and attentive making sure drinks don't get too low and also not overbearing while you are talking to friends or family. Food: The food is pretty good with the Mu Shu chicken having a good mixture of veggies and pieces of chicken with some hoisin sauce provided as well. The pancakes that they serve with the Mu Shu chicken however were extremely thin and were very dry to the taste which unfortunately couldn't be salvaged by the chicken mixture you put inside. The main lady came over to take our order--we went with the Sichuan green beans, tofu and eggplant claypot, and shrimp in spicy sauce. The flavors were just okay. The green beans lacked that typical Sichuan zing, the tofu and eggplant dish was bland and forgettable, and the shrimp dish tasted more like it was in a tomato-based sauce than anything spicy. Aside from the shrimp, the portion sizes didn't feel worth the price. Service was disappointing. The two young servers and the main lady spent most of the time chatting among themselves, and no one came to check on our table once the food was served. The beef noodle soup is so so good and authentic. The tendon is so tender and the beef soup base has a rich umami flavor. The noodles are thick and just chewy in the right way. I think that's their best dish. The three cup chicken was good but not too special and the portion was quite small. Salt and pepper fish was a little soggy but flavor was good. They have the BEST beef noodle soup ($17) here!! The broth is full of flavor and the beef is so tender-and they give a lot! I haven't had any other beef noodle soup in the Bay Area as good as here! Very mixed (leaning on bad) experience. All the Taiwanese and Americanized Chinese dishes are fairly decent (sesame chicken etc). Everything else (chow mien, soups, clay pot) is awful. Service is honestly abysmal, sometimes they will even ignore you and can't take basic hints. Last time I went there there was a massive clump of turmeric in my food. When she took my plate I attempted to tell my server of it and was ignored. I tipped $0. As I left they attempted to chase me down in order to get me to tip. We had a party of 3 and got the chongqing spicy tofu, 3 cup chicken, black mushroom with Chinese greens (it's shitake with bok choy), white rice and purple rice (which is purple rice + brown rice). The food was tasty (especially the chongqing spicy tofu). However to be honest I found the prices a bit high for the amount of food that we got. Looking around we didn't get the 3 dish deal that others mentioned--not sure if this deal has been discontinued or we just didn't know about it when we went. When I order the Mongolian beef from this place, I always use the leftover onions and sauce to create myself a stir fry. SOOO GOOD. The portion size is super huge and can feed me for DAYS. We also had enough left over to make another meal the next day for lunch for two of us. The total was about $28 a person. But note that since we got another lunch out of it, in a way you can say it is enough food for four people. So technically, it would be about $14 a person. Definitely Taiwanese comfort food! I've been coming here since two previous owners and I was basically in a high chair (so about since 20 years ago). We'd get take out at home and I have memories of being fed the Taiwanese beef noodle soup while my dad calls the noodles "Rapunzel" because of how long they are. Over the years the noodle soup has changed from having less dried chili, having less fatty beef shank pieces, and also changing the bok choy to spinach. However, I still believe this Taiwanese beef noodle soup is the best you can get in the area. Its charm is definitely the Szechuan beef noodle soup! However, if you're interested in family style rice and sides, my favorite is general tofu, San bei ji (three cup chicken), and xiao dou miao. read more

I was very happily surprised by this spot! They serve a mix of Taiwanese and Chinese food. They have an affordable family meal special of rice and three dishes for $45, the dishes being typical ones you'd find at a Chinese restaurant. My party opted for the Taiwanese dishes found on the regular menu. The pork chop bento was decent. Pork chop was authentically seasoned and fried, and braised minced pork rice with braised egg were fine. The spinach side tasted kind of like a banchan, sort of cold baby spinach. I liked the Taiwanese stir-fried rice noodles and sautéed pea sprouts a lot. The noodles had a strong wok hei, which in my Taiwanese experience isn't common, but I enjoyed nonetheless. The pea sprouts were cooked perfectly, with the garlic fragrance really coming through and complementing. Service was fine. The interior felt a little bit old and dingy. read more

All of the food we've had is super flavorful. We really like the green onion beef, sesame chicken, and hot and sour soup. The chow mein is also pretty good. The pork and Chinese chive dumplings and the basil bacon fried rice are okay, but not something we'd order again. Our favorite, though is the sweet and sour pork. The sauce is the perfect amount of tangy, and there are onions, green bell peppers, and pineapple mixed in too. Make sure to get some rice on the side to put the extra sauce on. The portions are large and reasonably priced. The staff isn't super conversational, but service is quick and all of the food comes out hot. Queens House has some of the best tasting Chinese food in the bay area. We've tried their broccoli chicken, beef noodle soup (not Sze Chuan version), green beans and Mushu dishes. These dishes are generous and flavorful. The only issue is, the workers frequently (including yesterday) give us dried out and cracked, and one time moldy mushu crepes for take-outs. These crepes are wrapped in tin foil. They have obviously been bagged and kept refrigerated for at least several months. One can feel the rock hard tin foil wraps when handling them, but the front line workers packed them for us anyway. I strongly advise customers to open up the wraps and examine the crepes before leaving the restaurant when ordering Mushu dishes. read more

When I crave a delicious bowl of pork belly over rice, this place hits the ball out of the park. The Taiwanese chopped pork belly over rice is around $11 and is super filling! They do not skimp on the meat! It was perfectly braised. They also add a good amount of sauce to coat the rice underneath. The marinated egg was tasty. Only thing that would make the dish better is if they added more mustard veggies as it adds even more flavor and nice crispy texture.
