Chef preparing my Nigiri Special Lunch togo plus Kani and Amaebi. With cold Draft Sapporo hits the spot every time when I dine in.

Fresh Nigiri Sake(Salmon) is always fresh and sweet. Ebi always fresh crisp and large Amaebi with crispy head freshly fried. Paired well with sweet cold Sake drink or cold draft beer. It is a peace outdoor setting.

first time to sushi kuni and upon walking in there is no sense of direction! only two waitresses here and there is no direction as to walk ins or to go orders the waitresses sat those that walked in first and avoided us who wanted to place an order to go so here we are ordering on the app at the bar which totally could have been avoided had anyone decided to assist us after sitting two more parties the deciding factor is to see if the food is even good , so far the service is lacking ambiance is a sushi bar with seats inside there is no first come first served here!

My family and I have been coming here for a while. It is one of the better quality Japanese restaurants out there. Very small shop but the servers are so sweet and they serve great quality seafood. I particularly like their oysters, they put some sort of topping and sauce on them that makes it unique and taste so good. Their toro is also very yummy. Nice and fatty and melts in your mouth. We also love getting their appetizers and cold udon as part of our meal. Would recommend even for take out to eat at home! We picked up food around 6:30pm and we had to wait a little for the food to be ready but we also ordered a lot of food.

    Chirashi Deluxe Lunch

I came here with my mom & a few of her friends for lunch. It's a cute hole in the wall that's clean and has very traditional Japanese decor, which I loved!! There's a good variety of dishes here, my group opted to order salmon teriyaki and beef teriyaki lunch specials (with salad and miso soup), a chirashi deluxe bowl, salmon sashimi, salmon nigiri (two pieces), and a salmon deluxe roll to split amongst four people. For dessert, we got the specialty matcha creme brulee, which I was very excited about! The food here is decent. The beef in the beef teriyaki is a bit tough, salmon teriyaki had a good texture to it. The chirashi bowl came with a good variety of fish & some tamagoyaki! I had no complaints about my salmon sashimi, it was very delicious and not too "fishy". The salmon nigiri comes with a bit of wasabi on top of the rice and below the salmon, so if you're not a fan of wasabi (I'm not) make sure to tell them you can go without it. The salmon deluxe rolls were good! Unfortunately, the matcha creme brulee was a little more hyped up in my mind. The matcha flavor wasn't too strong and the brulee wasn't as custardy as I would've hoped! It was a bit cakey/thick. Overall, pretty good meal and the service was nice. The waitress was sweet, and they pass by pretty often just since it's a small establishment so it's easy to get their attention. Overall, I'd come here again. Convenient location on De Anza & good Japanese food makes for a great combination!

Came by for lunch the other day and it was a decent experience. Parking is available in the private lot or on the nearby residential streets. Dining is available indoors in the air conditioned dining room or on the patio with umbrellas. Their whiteboard have a ton of specials which are worth checking out. Started off with the eggplant agedashi and this was lightly fried fresh eggplant in a bed of light soy sauce dopped with some grated radish and green onions. Moved on to the grilled chicken wings from the whiteboard and they were fantastic. Super fresh chicken wings and grilled to perfection while being juicy! The dragon roll was pretty decent with shrimp tempura on the inside, avocado and eel on the outside. The gyoza and tempura bento box was huge and came with a side of miso soup, salad, and rice. The tempura was decently fried and the highlight was the homemade gyoza which was freshly pan-fried. ~$33/head after tax and gratuity for lunch with plenty of leftovers.

Fish portion of the Special Dinner - delicious!

I had a wonderful meal here -- they're quick, the fish is fresh and delicious, and the service is great. What more could you ask for? I came in late, sat at the chef's counter and ordered the Special Dinner. It was huge. The miso and salad were the perfect starters -- both delicious. Then came the large fish plate with both sashimi and nigiri. All of it was incredible! This is how sushi is supposed to taste. The tempura was also good, but I don't usually eat fried food, so I couldn't finish it all. It's a quaint space, but the decor makes you feel like you're exactly where you're supposed to be. Do yourself a favor and give them a try if you haven't already, or go here again. Get the sushi - you won't be disappointed.

I liked how Sushi Kuni had a cute, traditional vibe. I enjoyed the service and ambiance. The outdoor seating was great, with umbrellas and a cute little patio area. I like that there are a lot of affordable options on the menu. Some of the rolls do go up to $20 prices, but there were also $9 rolls. We were looking for a little snack, and ordering two of the cheaper rolls was perfect for us. The fish was fresh and soft. I'd love to try more of the fancy rolls and dishes in the future!

The restaurant is dishonest. They didn't tell us how much tip they would charge before we start ordering. Instead, the owner/waitress simply put down the tip amount, which is 20% on top of tax?!, directly on the signature receipt afterwards. Those hand-written numbers are not mine. I wonder if this is even legal. Super bad experience, we felt that we were totally ripped off. Will never go there again. Folks, be careful they would dictate how much you need to tip for you!

    Special Dinner and Volcano roll
    Dave D.

The place is cute but understated. The decor is sort of classic for a sushi restaurant which isn't a bad thing. There was almost nobody else there on a Thursday evening. The service was friendly and fast, maybe too fast. The food was mediocre at best. The tempura was hot but somewhat tasteless. The shrimp in the tempura had a weird chewy consistency and some of the vegetables were total mush. The sushi and sashimi that came with the special dinner was just not special. Cheap rice mixed with low-grade seafood does not pair well. All of the fish had a weird metallic "I was frozen for a loooong time" flavor. The sushi rice seemed to be missing any ingredients besides water. The volcano roll was actually decent, probably the best thing we ordered. It was today's special roll but I probably won't go back to find out if they keep it on the menu.

Came here on two separate occasions. The first time, came alone for a solo dinner and ordered their special dinner combo. I sat at the bar and it was such a great deal AND I was so full!! I even had some leftover tempura that I took home. The sashimi was the star for me and I would recommend that combo all day. The second time, I came with a friend for a chill dinner date and we ordered a few items off of their special "new items" kind of menu. They were delicious and perfect for sharing of course. The inside can be very quiet when empty but even when full it seems that most people are respectfully not too loud as the space is on the smaller side. So the time I went with my friends, we sat outside as to not be too loud. Service is so kind, friendly, welcoming, and responsive.. I'm sure I'll be back again soon !!

We ordered omakase sashimi special, omakase sushi special, unagi nigiri, dragon roll, spider roll, rainbow row, and cold soba. It's not an actual omakase sushi dinner which involves being served each dish individually and in succession. It was more like an omakase dinner platter with lots of yummy sushi. Sushi was good and service too. It wasn't amazing so my search for mouth watering sushi continues.

    Miso Soup
    Auggie L.

Went for Lunch Food - 4/5. Nigiri was very uniform with good flavor on the rice. Fish was alright being on the leaner side. Spicy tuna roll had a decent kick to it and the scallions added a nice bite. Miso soup was light and mellow. Service - 4/5. Fast and courteous service. Value - 3/5. Their lunch menu pricing only applies to their bento combination which doesn't offer sushi as the main. Despite the name, the nigiri special is priced the same as during dinner. Their nigiri combo pricing isn't outrageous, but it is on the higher side for what amounts to run-of-the-mill sushi. Parking - Mall Lot (Free)

I have a big lunch party and was pleased to learn they will take orders the previous day and get them ready practically when they open for lunch. It was a $300+ order and they got everything right. Separated the cold and hot. Packed the Udon carefully. And offered utensils (I declined) instead of just put them in. All the foods were as good as I expect from this restaurant (I am a regular). I was particularly pleased with Futomaki and Spider rolls (we order 3!). They did not separate the soup from noodles for the Udon, as such, they don't keep long. But that was not a problem for us eaters. There's a separate menu for fancier dishes. Don't miss them. I am also glad to see the board now use English instead of Japanese.

We ordered the Chicken Karaage, Gyoza, Hakata Tonkatsu and the Chicken Paitan. We wanted to order the Chicken Paitan DX but we were told that their grill was not working so they could not grill the chicken thigh that came with the DX order. The soups came in bowls that were irrgular shaped and colorful. Everything tasted good. The chicken Karaage was generously portioned and tasted great. My son devoured them in no time. The Hakata Tonkatsu had a very rich, well developed broth that was so delicious. Might have been a little too rich for me as I was not able to finish the meal. The chicken Paitan was also delicious but the broth was a lighter broth. Our gyoza order did not come until much later in the meal. We had to remind our waiter that we did not get our order. This dish, gyoza, was disappointing. It did not look like it was homemade - looked more store bought. We didn't care for the taste with the dipping sauce that came with it. Not sure if this was because we had the heavier broth first. It just fell flat after the robust and rich hakata tonkatsu meal I had. Service was friendly. The waiter and manager(?), were apologetic that the gyoza order was delayed (or forgotten?). They also apologized for their grill not working that day. I would definitely come back here to try the other items on their menu.

We went to Kura Revolving Sushi Bar around evening time after our neighbors recommended it to us,…read moreso we were excited to try it. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing, and we did not enjoy it as much as we hoped. Food: We tried the rainbow roll, Kura roll, spicy tuna roll, hamachi nigiri, negitoro, salmon toro nigiri, and premium American beef nigiri. Unfortunately, none of them tasted good to us. The fish did not taste fresh, the rice was way too sweet, and the premium American beef nigiri tasted very off. We visit sushi restaurants often, and we have never experienced rice that sweet before. The conveyor belt items also did not seem fresh, and you have to ask for wasabi because it is not provided at the table. Service: The host was welcoming but other than that, it did not really feel like there was much service. Most of the ordering is done through a tablet, but the tablet was placed too high, so it became tiring and uncomfortable to keep our arm up while switching between pages. When we asked the server for help, they just told us to use the tablet, which was frustrating. The tablet also did not clearly explain what was inside each item, so it was hard to know what we were ordering. Ambience: The restaurant felt more exhausting than enjoyable. Because there was very little server communication and everything depended on the tablet, we felt disconnected from the whole dining experience. The menu also needs improvement because many sushi items felt too similar, and there were not enough options for someone who does not like shrimp but enjoys tuna and other fish. Overall, we were disappointed and will not be back.

We ordered our favorite appetizer first and then placed the rest of our order. There were both a female and a male server, and neither of them made us feel welcome at all. The male server did not write anything down while taking our order and barely responded when I spoke. He gave no acknowledgment whatsoever, so I honestly could not tell whether he even heard me. It felt like the staff simply wanted us to leave as quickly as possible because the restaurant closes at 8 PM. We even rushed through our meal and made sure to leave before 8 PM out of consideration for the staff, yet we were still treated like an inconvenience the entire time. What shocked me the most was the hygiene issue. The black-haired female server at the counter near the entrance dropped a small stainless steel basket used for checks onto the floor, stepped on it with her shoe, then picked it up with her hands and placed it back without cleaning or sanitizing it. After that, she never washed or sanitized her hands, yet continued touching napkins, utensils, and setting tables. That is completely unacceptable, especially in a restaurant. To make things worse, my husband ordered a soju cocktail, and the male server placed the alcoholic drink directly in front of me even though I am visibly 9 months pregnant with a very large baby bump. He said nothing and walked away. Not once did the staff say "enjoy your meal" when serving our food. They never checked on our table even once afterward, and we never received any water or napkin refills. The only time the male server came back was after cleaning the restroom to tell us the kitchen was closing. If customers arriving after 7 PM are such an inconvenience, then please put a sign on the door telling people not to come in after that time. And most importantly, please teach your staff proper hygiene and basic customer service. This was one of the most unwelcoming and unsanitary dining experiences I have ever had.

If you come in expecting to have a some fresh fish and be full after, then this is a good place. But it just lacks that bit of attention to detail to have me wanting to come back all the time.

Didn't have a great experience here with both underwhelming service and food. I wouldn't want to…read morecome back. I had two issues with the service. First, I made a reservation on yelp but forgot to mention it to my friends. I was the second to arrive and my friend was already seated so I joined her. Later the server came by asking if we had a reservation which I said I did, then she complained in Chinese to my friend "I asked you earlier and you had said No. I had set up the table for it already". I found it pretty rude since the restaurant was half empty and just because she had the utensils and water out, shouldn't be a big deal. My second issue is that I ordered explicitly with "no wasabi and no green onions". Then, of course my sushi roll came with full of green onions on top. I said "I asked for no green onions" and the server said "but this is already made", expecting me to just accept it as is. My friends all heard me clearly ask when I ordered too. I said firmly that I would like it remade, which then they brought it back and I saw the original server who took the order glare at me and gestured towards me. This was ridiculous treatment. The food was not good either. I tried the Salmon Lover Roll ($17) and Sake Nigiri ($8). The salmon nigiri was a joke because as you can see from the photo it was tearing and falling apart. It was also cut so thick which just felt very unrefined. Thicker fish is good to a degree but it was too extreme and made me think it was due to lack of skill from the sushi chef. The salmon roll was not great either because the salmon skin in the middle was coated so much I just tasted the coating and not the fish anymore.
