Market Mezze Plate
Eilien L.

I recently stopped by Bluestone Lane in Los Altos to try their new Mezza Plate, paired with an oat milk latte on the side. The dish featured a colorful assortment of arugula, halloumi cheese, smoked salmon, boiled eggs, and a tomato-based chickpea mix with peppers and olives. While the ingredients sounded promising and the presentation was appealing, the overall flavor profile was decent but not particularly memorable. The service, unfortunately, felt a bit disorganized during my visit. Most of the staff were warm and accommodating, though one moment stood out when a server carried three customer drinks by hand without a tray, which honestly felt a little unsafe and chaotic in a busy dining environment. That said, the ambience is where this location truly shines. The space is incredibly cozy, inviting, and thoughtfully designed , perfect for catching up with family or spending a relaxed afternoon with friends. It's also very baby-friendly, which makes it an easy choice for casual group outings or family brunches.

It was our first time and was impressed with the service provided. We showed up for lunch. My wife ordered a sandwich and I ordered their wrap. We decided to sit on their outdoor deck and enjoy the beautiful weather. I made the mistake of ordering my matcha latte with regular milk, but they were very kind and replaced it with another one with oat milk at no cost. Will stop by again to try out their other items. So far so good. PS: my apologies for the plate photos, we were hungry and took the photos after a few bites

Friendly staff and quick service. I went solo on a weekday with my dog after a nice walk around Shoup Park and Redwood Grove. They had refreshing iced tea and just ordered a side of scrambled eggs to replenish some of my energy from a hot summer morning.

The environment is so beautiful, cozy for a relaxing lovely morning :) Would definitely come back!

Pricey but cute! We came to do inkind credits which unfortunately are defunct now. The berry smoothie was refreshing and the patio area is really cute, otherwise the drinks were just okay. There were huge rats on the patio tho which were scary but it was like a zoo. Service was nice, the staff tried to help me troubleshoot the inKind credits but no luck.

Good location in Los Altos downtown, good view, good selection of brunch. Food presentation is also decent. It's a nice place to hang out for morning birds however I expected a restaurant in such prime location could surprise me more than others. I feel the staff could be more proactive than hanging out. Also I felt the ordering process could be more straightforward, when we got there we were confused by the QR code on what we've ordered. Anyways, I'm sure it's just this one time thing, and I look forward to visit again to change my score here.

Here is always a great option to have a meeting, gathering or just stop by for a bite and sip. Outdoor patio is specially lovely to enjoy the breeze and sunshine.

Breakfast Bowl no feta
Lily Z.

Stopped by for a quick bite as I had an appointment in the area. Food: I ordered the breakfast bowl sans feta and with spiced chicken and dressing on the side as I like to have less dressing with my salads. I have to say my biggest pet peeve is dry chicken so when I first saw the bowl I was a little underwhelmed...but after taking the first bite I was very surprised! The chicken was perfectly cooked and tender, lightly spiced. Lemon vinaigrette was not overpoweringly citrusy too even though I added most of the dressing!! Only thing is, I'm what one might call a certified big back and was pretty hungry and hoping for a hearty serving, but unfortunately wasn't completely satisfied after my meal. I wish their portion size was a bit bigger. Would definitely order again though! I also ordered a matcha latte with simple syrup. They definitely don't skimp on the matcha, the latte was STRONG with matcha flavor. Decent quality too as far as I can tell. Ambiance: stunning property with lots of flowers outside, cute blue ocean themed interior decor, outdoor seating available, though I opted to sit inside Service: you can scan and order yourself which was what I did and the service was friendly, fast and professional. Would come back again!

BL burrito
Emily S.

Came in on a reservation on Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy but it's definitely understaffed. The staff is very friendly but just too busy to be checking up on you. My friend and I both got the BL burrito but mine looked drastically different (granted they did forget her order so they made it look nice to make up for it). The pictures I took is exactly how it arrived. It was quite plain and nothing special especially considering the price point- would not order again. We also got the lemon ricotta pancakes which were pretty good but a bit too crispy. Overall, cute place but way too understaffed and food is just alright.

The Smash--Avocado toast with provolone cheese
Peggy C.

The food here is very good. Our party was for 6 people and it was our second visit. I loved my avocado toast. It was customized with my favorite cheese. The bread was so fresh and healthy with a brown crust. I also ordered a Hibiscus Ice tea that was refreshing. Unfortunately the service was spotty and most of the time one of us had to get up and find our server. Also there were problems getting our reservation ( no one answers the phone) and putting up with a dirty unisex bathroom. So not sure if we will return.

Close up of new drink menu

This was my first time ever here and wow was it ever packed on a Wednesday around 10 AM!! Apparently nobody works! Lol Everything was incredibly clean and open seating area. I really like the nautical clean look!! Since everything was packed at all the tables, my friend and I decided to get some drinks to go. Sadly, I'm lactose intolerant, so I tried their mango Matcha! I was surprised it already came with an oat milk and not a cow milk, right off the bat!! The Matcha was really good with a kick of mango and I really enjoyed my drink!! I can't wait to come back and try the food!!

Cute coffee shop cafe. Free parking in small private lot. Service was quick and efficient. Menu had a wide assortment of drinks and lots of breakfast/brunch items. I had the BL big brekkie and split the ricotta pancakes. It was a lot of food. Delicious and beautiful presentation. .

Their restrooms are more dirty than in a gas station. Can't imagine how their kitchen looks where guests can't access.... I'll try to avoid this place next time.

My boyfriend and I split the garden omelette meal (which we ask for as a scramble instead). There are jams on the table and a variety of hot sauces. We ask them to provide sugar free syrup and they bring it to the table. Brunch egg dishes come with crispy hash browns and a choice of a side of toast or get this, pancakes! So you get a whole extra order if you choose the buttermilk pancakes as a side. I see people come in with their kiddo and order an omelette and give them the pancakes. Aside from Spot Pizza across the street which sells delicious affordable slices for lunch, you won't find many meal deals on this street. The folks who work at this Holder's are friendly and on top of things while respecting your space. Your coffee cup will not be empty for long. They are well equipped to serve older folks and have accessible tables at both the front and rear entrances. Lots of regulars here. The place is always bright and clean and has booths as well as stand alone tables which can be put together to accommodate larger groups. It's a great no frills, restaurant which consistently serves good food and seats folks promptly all day long.

Didn't make any difference since our server Jose was a new face, and sorely hurting in his job description? He messed up my toast order, stating I had ordered sourdough and this was around 3 seconds after I ordered whole wheat toast. Really? There were only 2 of us and the place was not busy. HAM & EGGS $18.50 served with hashbrowns & toast (your choice) ~ nice generous cut of ham. Warm smokey, pork aroma and taste. Eggs over medium were prepared correctly, but they didn't appear fresh, which was a disappointment as in prior visits nice yellow yokes sitting high and proud. Hashbrowns and toast were a major letdown. Tears all around, as potatoes were barely brown while the rest of the potatoes were white and just warm. Some of the toast was just brown but not really toasted. TIP: order hashbrowns CRISPY, on your own with the toast. VERY BERRY FRENCH TOAST $17.50 for the Duchess. Proudly and incessantly proclaiming its wonders ad nauseum, the Duchess truly loved her dish. She was apparently overwhelmed with the copious amounts of fruits, blue berries and strawberries, whipped cream, which were accented by a light covering of powdered sugar. She was a bit dubious about the big scoop of butter and not asking for the whipped cream on the side, left us wondering if this will be the norm now. DRINKS - 1 Hot Chocolate $4.50 for the lady and 1 Coffee $4.50 for your writer. Duchess thought her order was too sweet and will not order again. I believe they've upgraded the coffee as it was passible. I do wish they had honey packets on the table. AMBIENCE - American diner, wouldn't do first or romantic date. Wow, I've frequented this restaurant several times and am sorry things seemed to have slipped. Server presented us with the bill and disappeared not to be found again by the Duchess. However the device stated we should hand it back to the server. Server was AWOL, so we left. I don't know, probably will try it again.

We asked about a cocktail that was listed by name only, with no description. Her entire answer was "a cocktail." Not helpful. The menus didn't help either. Three separate menus, all dense and cluttered, made it hard to figure out what we even wanted to order. On top of all that, the food was mediocre at best, small portions, flavorless, disappointing for a Los Altos restaurant at this price point. Between the heat, the service, and the food, there was nothing that made this worth a return visit. Based on the owner's responses to other reviews here, it seems she prefers to argue with customers rather than fix the actual issues, warm dining room, no ice, unhelpful service. So a few days after returning from an overseas trip, I made a lunch reservation with a friend. Apparently, reservations are required if you want a proper meal experience. At $35 per person for lunch, including tip but excluding drinks and additions, it still seemed like good value. Finding parking during lunch time in downtown Los Altos was surprisingly difficult. There were no spots available on the Main Street, so I had to park in the lot behind the buildings. As I walked inside, I admired the high ceilings, curved alcoves and glass-enclosed dining room by the entrance. The entire space seemed to be illuminated by a central skylight. Aaron is a co-owner of Tal Palo along with his partner, Chef Adriana. He greeted and complimented me on my Mikkeller Taipei t-shirt. Aaron told us he was once the co-owner of an Oakland bar specializing in Belgian ale called The Trappist and subsequently knew Mikkel's brother, Jeppe, who founded Evil Twin Brewery quite well. It was cool to meet a fellow artist and Renaissance man. Fittingly, the beautiful space was largely designed by Aaron. We had our choice of seating. It didn't seem as if there were any two tables and chairs that were alike. Each part of the dining room was unique. There's a really nice patio in the back with a cool huge mural on the wall that is undoubtedly popular during warmer months. We chose a nice broad two top table near the entrance, lit brightly by the skylight above it. Chef Adriana introduced herself and brought by what was essentially an elote muffin, and offered it as an optional appetizer. We took her up on it. It was delicious and buttery with the texture of corn kernels, not simply pureed into a batter. I also ordered a Cafe de Olla, which was pleasantly sweet and blended with cinnamon and spices. She then brought a plate with skillfully prepared green salad. It was then clear that each dish was meant to be shared family-style. The portion-size of each dish is about the size of an individual portion, but there were three dishes included in the lunch course. I could see how this might be an issue for those who eat larger portions, leaving them unsatisfied. Me and my friend don't generally eat a ton, so this was perfectly fine for us. Next up was the highlight of the meal, Chilaquiles Verde. The egg was perfectly fried atop tortilla chips that still had a bit of crispness to them. The tomatillo salsa was a perfect balance of flavor, tanginess, spice and temperature. It was a superb dish that outpaces any chilaquiles that I've been able to find locally, and I've certainly been trying out many for the past six months in search of the best one. I think Chef Adriana's version at Tal Palo may be the winner. There was one more interesting dish remaining: fried quesadillas served with a creamy red beet mole sauce. The quesadillas were light and fluffy, made from masa rather than flour. The beet mole sauce had pine nuts and sesame seeds and several other ingredients blended into it. Very unique and creative rendition unlike any mole I had ever tried. The overall experience at Tal Palo was very unique. There is no set menu, and you are served whatever Chef Adriana has prepared that day. So one needs to approach this restaurant with an open mind and leave preconceptions at the door. As I mentioned earlier, the shared portions might not be enough for people with a higher caloric intake. If these are showstoppers, this is probably not the right place for you. I personally really enjoyed the concept and experience. I look forward to trying their dinner course and going to their workshops for things like making tamales.
