Carte Blanche is cute, convenient and cozy! Located in the Shashi Hotel in Mountain View this little spot serves up coffee, tea, juice shots and pastries. Iced Latte - solid cup, with an option of milk alternatives and syrups. Price is typical for the Bay Area, $6-7 a drink. Not too crowded the morning I was here so service was quick and seamless. My drink was well made and tasted great. Wish they had more food offerings, since The Emerald Hour and Broma hours aren't open until later in the day. Lots of bright seating in the the main ordering area, but more seating in the lobby that's perfect hanging out or working. Complimentary parking (and charging) in the hotel structure and street parking. read more

OVERALL Fresh food, quick table-side service after ordering at the counter, and a relaxed hotel-café ambiance make Carte Blanche a very solid breakfast choice, especially if you're already at Shashi Hotel or in the Shoreline area....coffee is so-so and you're likely better off taking a walk over to Google Cafe for this one (from taste and price!). Overall solid fresh food (pricey but I guess normal for the area), knocked off a star for coffee being very average and service being less enthusiastic or friendly than I expected. AMBIANCE We came down for breakfast in the early morning to grab a quick hot breakfast and coffee and it was easy enough to get to and solid hours for the working folks. Fairly quiet spot and just the usual buzz of folks taking calls or having chit chat with coffee. It's right inside the Shashi Hotel and has a clean minimalist feel. There's indoor seating (about 3-4 tables) within the cafe but most folks just found a spot within the hotel dining area with more booths and long tables for coworking, and tables by the fireside, or outside by the pool. It's pretty comfortable spot to work in though some of the floor charging ports were often a trip hazard! SERVICE You order at the counter...(and can't say the folks taking the order didn't seem particularly enthusiastic working there but otherwise we got what we ordered and all substitution requests were honored), take a numbered placard, and sit down wherever you want. We dined in but you can obviously get to-go. In 10-15 minutes or so, the staff bring your food out to the table, which is pretty efficient and keeps things casual. Food was prepared quickly, arrived hot and well-presented, and they bring you silverware -- which is ideal if you're trying to grab breakfast before meetings or a flight! The overall atmosphere is calm and polished "urban resort lobby café" than crowded street coffee shop, which fits well if you're staying at the hotel or meeting colleagues nearby. FOOD The breakfast menu leans toward elevated kind of price-y but limited. There's only 4 main breakfast items (if you're not a pastry person in the morning). As an aside, the pastries in the case also didn't look super fresh. While limited in menu, everything we tried tasted fresh and was pretty solid -- a bit pricey but hey for the speed and fresh, healthy feel it was fine. The avocado toast came on hearty sourdough with scrambled eggs and bright toppings (loved the edamame in the salad), making it feel more like a full meal. The pork sausage breakfast bowl was solid too with scrambled eggs, potatoes, spinach, cheddar, avocado, salsa, and a touch of habanero heat that made it comforting but still interesting. The fruit and yogurt bowl balanced things out nicely with Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, granola, and honey, so you can go lighter if you don't want something heavy first thing in the morning! Would recommend this or the avocado toast if you're looking for something lighter but want to get the greens in. read more

I really enjoy Carte Blanche for their breakfast and pastries - almond and chocolate croissants are delicious, and the coffee is great. I believe breakfast is served only until 10 a.m., but they stay open until 2 p.m. for drinks and pastries. However, one big issue is that the pastries aren't covered, and flies tend to swarm around and land on them. For such a beautiful, modern café, I expected better attention to hygiene. I hope they address this because the food and atmosphere are otherwise lovely. read more

The people here are friendly, but some days they are pretty busy and the service can be slow. I've ordered ahead a couple times which didn't matter because they usually don't get to it until a few minutes later. Parking is, most of the time, easy to find but last visit I had to park pretty far due to sidewalk closure. I also noticed last time their pastries had a few fruit flies. The location is convenient, but I'm not if I'd come back here again unless maybe I was a guest at the hotel. read more

Very cute cafe. It is attached to the hotel, and you can sit and work in the hotel lobby. They even bring your order to you there. Great place to hang out or do some work. I ordered the ube latte and it tasted great. My friends ordered pastries as well and they loved it! read more

Was excited when this place opened up and was looking forward to a new pastry place with some good coffee but their selection wasn't as wide as I had hoped and it looks like they get their food from other place? Maybe next door? I picked up a cinnamon roll, which felt store bought. It was dry and tasted okay but for $7, no thank you. The coffee was interesting, this was my first time seeing an automated pour over setup and thought it was cool. I picked a Costa Rican coffee and it had a nice fruity flavor. The machine really did a good job but you get a 9 oz coffee for $8 or $9. I don't know if it's really worth it. I can pickup a pour over from Castro Street that's just as good, have a person doing the pour over, for less, and get more. I'm hoping they take this feedback and look at pricing as well as quality of their baked goods. There are much better quality bakeries on Castro for less. read more

Cute! 3.5 stars. Love the aesthetics of the dining area. It's part of the Shashi Hotel (an urban resort) in Mountain View. This place may seem like an overpriced cafe for the type of food served, but keep in mind this quaint cafe is near Google and the Computer History Museum. Being the young engineer who works for nearby tech companies, the clientele here can afford "overpriced". The good: if you are trying to get away from the hustle and bustle of Silicon Valley life and the 12-14 hours you put into work at the office every day, then this is a nice getaway for a relaxing breakfast in an upscale setting. Better ambiance in the dining or patio area, which is accessible to cafe patrons. The menu may seem simple but I come for the entire experience. Sit by the fireplace and enjoy a quiet and meditative meal to start your day. read more

Came here to get coffee with friends and some work done. I was surprised to find that the coffee shop is part of a hotel but it wasn't particularly busy when we went on a weekday morning. There's plenty of seating and charging stations so it's a great place to get work done. The place is very nicely decorated and very modern. They offer coffee, tea, and pastries. I went with a drip coffee which was very nice and went well with my seasonal pear tart. I'm told the Ube latte here was very tasty. Service was great and they bring your items to you once you find seating. They gave free Wi-Fi, just ask. There's plenty of free street parking. read more

Ordered short latte but received a regular latte. Not being nit picky but for the price that is charged, why can't I get what I ordered? Or maybe just tell me you don't do that here...? Service could've been better too - there was a customer waiting for quite a bit and the personnel decided to prioritise something else (looking for a salt shaker) over taking her order. This place is my new go-to spot! I live out of town and come here twice a year for work. Carte Blanche has great hours for that early morning pick-me-up and they're open on Sundays. The staff is super friendly and seems to really love their jobs. They made me feel like I was at my neighborhood cafe. The coffee is so smooth, not a hint of bitterness. The atmosphere is really chill too. They have both cozy dimly lit spots and bright window booths. Perfect for me to check my emails and recharge for the day. read more

Cute space -- opened just in time to take advantage that the nearest Starbucks is closed for remodel. It's connected to the Shashi hotel where it appears many of the patrons came from. The place is small so the order line and pick up was all jumbled. Despite taking my name, my oatmilk latte came out the wrong size (I believe it went to the gentleman before me). It was corrected and delicious. I didn't wait long for my coffee, but my toasted ham and cheese croissant sandwich was already cooled off. I would like to come again to try their muffuletta sandwich. This place has good food and is close by so I frequent often. The prices are high which is to be expected in this area. However I think the cleanliness can be improved. Half the staff was standing around chatting about their weekend plans while all the tables were covered in crumbs and spilled coffee. The straw, lid area was just a mess and in the half hour I spent there having my coffee it never got wiped up. If prices are this high at least have a staff that keeps the area clean and doesn't look at you like, ugh, another customer. Music is good! read more

Very cute place, been there multiple times since I stayed at the shashi hotel. The ladies working there look miserable which is a bummer to see first thing in the morning. The coffee is yummy and well made but some of the food is odd. Had the worst Caesar salad in my life, I feel like its hard to make Caesar salad bad. Chocolate muffin is very yummy but tastes ok at best when not heated up. I would only go again if I had to stay at the hotel, other than that, i'd rather find a more comfy coffee shop with more cheerful staff. read more

Stayed the weekend of Chain Smokers. I've stayed at this hotel for other events. Sad to say they don't have pancakes anymore but I pick delicious lattes and coffee selections over the previous breakfast choices. The cafe is cute and quaint, the ladies behind the counter rocked it when it was busy.Shout out to them for making my morning amazing, Coffees came out at a great time, the breakfast sandwich was delicious and hit the spot. My pumpkin spice latte was waaaaaaaay better then starbucks, my friend had a regular coffee and it was better then most coffee shops. 10 out of 10 would recommend! read more
