Our first time eating here on a Sunday night around 5pm. Place was much smaller then I expected! Must get super busy on Saturday nights. We were seated right away without a reservation, waitress was very nice and came right over to tell us the specials. I had the peach sangria which was a special. It was so fruity and delicious! It was a white sangria and I usually prefer red, but this was yummy. My boyfriend had a drink called the "Darth Vader" which was the only reason he ordered it... he was not a fan. The food was AMAZING. I had the almond crusted Bronzino which was prepared perfectly. It came with a kale salad on the side which other reviewers have said is delicious and I AGREE! This entree was so good I will return for it. My boyfriend had the ribeye and was very impressed. He said it was soft and cooked perfect. He knows a good steak! $90 for 2 entrees with 2 drinks. There was one waiter literally doing everything except cooking. He tried his best and was pleasant. However, it took 15 minutes to be given service from when we arrived. 35 min to receive dinner. Went to the South Shore Grill today for a gal pal lunch after a wonderful massage in Sayville. This is about the BEST restaurant in the surrounding Patchogue, Bayport, Sayville area that I have been to or anywhere lately for that matter. On par with a NY City restaurant. I picked South Ocean Grill as our Valentine's Day/anniversary dinner spot because of the reviews but left with mixed feelings. My boyfriend and I loved the ambiance and agreed that the service was great. We also really enjoyed the volcano shrimp (definitely a must get!). However, when it came down to our entrees (filet and crab cakes), the food was just OK, especially for the price. 1. Volcano shrimp: Perfectly sauced and the coleslaw was delicious! This dish was definitely the star of the night 2. Barrel-cut fillet mignon: The beef was soft but was nothing special. The steak fries were good but needed a sauce 3. Crab cakes: I thought the crab cakes were a bit fishy but my boyfriend thought they were good 4. Seasonal vegetables (green beans): The green beans were fresh but needed more seasoning Don't get me wrong, there was nothing wrong with the food but there was no wow factor for me. Amazing! We ended up here on a whim, no reservation on a Saturday night and the hostess did all she could to get us seated as quickly as possible. She even came over to celebrate with us when we scored a table only 10 minutes later. It's cozy and lively, perfect date dinner spot. I got the filet mignon and my boyfriend got one of the specials, lobster fettuccini. I was blown away and the house made truffle Parmesan steak fries.. out of this world. Portion sizes were perfect and employees were polite and warm. I've been in patchogue for two years now and kicking myself for waiting so long to try it. We'll be back next week with friends! Incredible dining experience! The ambience of the resturant was so romantic and perfect and the food was litterally incredible. If you haven't been yet then you are denying your self an unforgettable delicious dinning experience. We have talk for months about wanting to go here and let me tell you it was phenomenal! We got a reservation for 8pm Saturday January 5th 2019. Everything from start to finish was delicious and perfect! They had our table ready when we walked in, the wait staff was so sweet, courteous, and helpful. We had the Valcano shrimp appetizer. In the mood for seafood after the disappointing Oyster Bay Festival, we were in the mood for seafood. We Googled "best seafood restaurants" (near us) and South Ocean Grill was 1 of the top 3 so we decided to drop by after calling ahead. We were told that it was walk-in at the moment but things could change in the 20 minutes it would take us to get there, and the hostess was right! When we arrived we were told the wait was 45 minutes to one hour, so I recommend making reservations. This was one of the best experiences we've ever had. The place is very small, so reservations are suggested. It's cozy and romantic, but still friendly for groups of friends. The service was casual and friendly, the drinks and food were fantastic. The bartender (whose name I forget...sorry) was creating Halloween-based drinks that night, one of which (The Dracula) I tried. It was fun, artistic and strong. My wife and I shared a shrimp appetizer and our entrees were the scallop dish and lobster/shrimp gnocchi. Both delicious and decent portions. For dessert, we went with the homemade banana bread, made by the bartender's cousin, which was delicious! The best compliment my wife could had made was that she wants to make this place our new romantic restaurant. My girlfriend and I used to meet at Houston's near the Roosevelt Field mall once a week until they closed years ago. Someone told me this place was comparable- I wish I didn't wait so long to check it out. What a gem! Love the small, quaint dining room. The food was divine. The slaw w the ribs and sweet potato fries was incredible- the old fashioned burger was out of this world. The white bean dip was delish - and the cookie skillet dessert was perfection. I do NOT recommend. Food was average at best. The place is so loud you can hardly talk to the people you are sitting with without screaming and the server can barely hear you. Was told they are known for their fish, but yet their Filet Mignon was sold out, idk that seems fishy to me. The scallops were not good and the herb crust that was supposed to be on the salmon was more like an herb mush smeared on like butter. Strolled in on a Sunday afternoon with a friend and sat outside at one of the little tables in front to enjoy the great weather. The waitress was amazing. She was very accommodating and had a like able personality. She recommended the kale salad which was amazing it came with some roasted peanut dressing that just hit the spot. We went early on a Friday evening (4:50/5pm) knowing that we didn't have a reservation. Said they opened at 4 so should still be good to go. Got seated outside quickly and it filled up fast. The staff did not seem like they had their stuff together yet and throughout the whole meal we didn't have great service. They were out of the beer my boyfriend ordered and then our server told us there weren't any specials but overheard the other waitress tell the other table specials. We asked him again and he said there was a meat ravioli and cod. We asked the other waitress and she gave a more detailed description and catfish. The whole time they didn't seem to know what was going on. We went with dinner menu dishes. My dad ordered the swordfish only to be told they were out of it, quite early to be out but no problem chose again. The third waitress had no idea which table to deliver food too and just asked every table. Now why I gave them four stars: The food was fantastic! It seems the chef is holding this place together. We got the steak and Gorgonzola flatbread, perfect! I had the ribeye and baked potato, amazing marinade and one of the best cooked potatoes I've ever had - nice crispy skin and fluffy inside. The scallops my dad changed his order to were very good and loved the corn and risotto combo. My boyfriend had the filet and it was cooked perfectly, really enjoyed the Parmesan fries as well. Overall it's an average place. Location isn't the best especially for outdoor dining and there seemed to be a weird smell upon entry to the restaurant (we didn't smell it sitting outside). The street is a bit busy but it was a Friday so fun people watching! The inside atmosphere was really nicely put together but not much comment since we were outside. Reservations for our original dinner plans had to be canceled because of timing and logistics.... Stuff happens .... So, we ended up going out a few hours later. After some consideration, we ended up at South Ocean Grill in Patchogue. Wow!! Where has this place been hiding ??? Well, apparently right across the street from Lombard's on the Bay.... We were seated promptly... it's a very small place. I think I counted 31 seats, which included 5 or 6 at the bar. If you've never been, it's like you just walked into someone's house, and the living room furniture has been replaced with 2-tops and 4-tops.... Super quaint and cozy for sure. We ordered drinks and then decided to have the Sesame Crusted Tuna appetizer... pan seared to perfection... so tasty... and the chipotle aioli gave it a nice flavor... a bit of mixed greens and oh, watch out for the wasabi that was hiding on the side, and somehow became attached to my chopstick... now, I love wasabi with my sushi.... But an UNEXPECTED chunk.... Yikes... We ordered the Pan Seared Jumbo Scallops and Rock Shrimp with the creamy corn and spinach risotto... super tasty and the scallops were cooked perfectly. I ordered the Cajun Grilled Swordfish.... Now... from my experience, cooking swordfish needs to be timed just right or a dense fish like that will be dry... Well, chef Hirbin Manzanares has the swordfish timing down pat. Super moist and delicious!! Could not have been happier with my dinner choice! We never order dessert, but somehow we were draw to the Key Lime Pie... a most unusual choice for the 2 of us. The Key Lime Pie had just the perfect combination of tartness, sweetness and creaminess. Great crust too... well worth going for, I'm glad we did. Overall, an amazingly delicious dinner. We had originally planned on going elsewhere... and as mentioned, stuff happens .... My husband and I have become semi-regulars...it's our "the kid is with her grandparents, let's go out and have a nice meal, place"... and we've yet to be disappointed. I never rank this low on yelp but I was truly disappointed in the dinner I had, especially after seeing so many rave reviews on yelp. Made reservations, was seated right away which was a good thing. The place is small, 8-10 tables inside max. Once we sat we waited easily over ten minutes to be greeted and take a drink order. Then another ten minutes for the drinks. And so on and so on. Everything dragged on. An hour meal took 2.5 hours without dessert. I had to call my waiter over for more bar drinks. And the food was really not that great. The mussels smelled really bad, like feces. We couldn't even eat them. The volcano shrimp was good. Entrees were ok but nothing really to rave about. Their steak fries are a potato cut into four pieces and fried with truffle salt. The Mexican corn everyone raves about was drowning in some sort of mayo sauce. They had such a heavy hand with it that's all I tasted. I wished we could have tried to dessert but by that time I was there so damn long I just wanted to leave. It was dark in there too which made it ever more depressing. I will not go back there to change my mind. No photos because after waiting so long to get a drink in my hand and order appetizers I was already over this place. read more

Food arrived cold; we have the photos to show, upon request. Artichokes must have been set afire, and the crab cakes dumped into a "leftover" box, along with leaking cole slaw. Upon calling the restaurant, we were put in touch with Jackie, an "owner/manager." We were promised a refund, a gift certificate and that the situation would be addressed with Grub Hub. After attending a wake we were looking for a quiet place to relax and have a good meal. We hit the jackpot with South Ocean Grill. We were literally the only ones in there when we arrived. I was a bit skeptical at first, but it was early on a Tuesday night so not to be deterred we grabbed a cozy table by the window. There was plenty of staff on hand but they didn't hover, they were attentive but not overbearing. We ordered the white bean dip as an app, which came with homemade tortilla chips. My husband was a huge fan of this dish, i would order it again for the chips alone...wish they had a salsa or hummus to go with the delicious chips. For our meals hubby had scallops with risotto. i ordered the flounder with rock shrimp and risotto. Gordon Ramsey would have been proud of the risotto, it was very good. The fish was cooked well, the scallops could have had a better sear on them but were very tasty. As we were getting ready to leave a few customers arrived, which I was happy to see as this place deserves to have a loyal following. I have been wanting to go here FOREVER. We finally go for Mother's Day (my wishes) and went because my mom passed away and I wanted the day to be perfect and special. The prices for the portions/food was outrageous. They made it sound extra special to throw in a mimosa or Prosecco but we all could have done without it. My father came with us and almost always takes his leftovers and he did not even want them. They did not ask how we want our steak cooked. After the awesome sky diving experience, we decided to treat ourselves with a good but light meal. Is sky diving a life changing experience? It is because I only wanted veggies now! Small intimate restaurant. Suggestions: 1): BREAD. For the love of Mike, why no bread? Your answer was "covid". WTF. If you think it's too much to give away, just charge for it. While I am having a drink while deciding what to eat, I like to munch on bread and olive oil. What does covid have to do with it? We all use same salt and pepper shakers/grinders. Lame excuse. 2): lower the damn lights, just a tad. A little ambiance please. Hint, makes people happy, happy people drink more, that is where you make your money. What a little gem! Located on South Ocean Ave. in Patchogue, this is a perfect, cozy spot to grab a bite after a walk to the water or a bike ride around town. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and was lucky enough to get a spot to sit outside. The women dining next to us honestly could not stop saying good things about the food, so that got us pretty excited. I ordered the grilled fish sandwich which came out and I wasn't sure how I was going to be able to eat the whole thing! It came on a freshly baked sesame seed bun (they bake their own bread!) with lettuce, tomato, and some aoili. I was able to sub out fries for a kale salad which was worth it!! It was so delicous. It was dressed with a mild vinagarette, dried canberries and some sunflower seeds. Must try! My friend ordered a mushroom, spinach, and goat cheese flatbread which was super tasty! There was enough for a whole meal. My boyfriend ordered the crispy chicken sandwhich, that came on their sesame bun as well. Fresh baked bread was brought out to the table to start, and they have a decent selection of beer and wine which they say keeps growing. South Ocean grill was another one of the small hidden gems that thrived off the beaten path in Patchogue over the summer. Their food, drinks and appetizers are absolutely incredible. We came across South Ocean grill by accident taking a stroll around the park. The establishment is a fairly small place with an outdoor patio and a few seats inside. Our favorites off the menu are definetly their skirt steak flatbread, coconut shrimp and the salmon burgers. Their salmon burgers are beyond delicious and it was defined one of the top dishes of 2020 we've had. The prices are super fair for what they serve you and service is super attentive and friendly. Omg. Not only is this place a perfect mix of cozy and charm, the drinks and food are absolutely phenomenal. I came with a group of people waiting for a wedding cocktail hour to start and we were not disappointed. When you pull up to the restaurant it looks like an old house. But when you walk in you are transported into a beach hut wrapped in cozy pillows and island music vibes. The layout is wrapped in different tones of woods and a few tables for seating. (Just for the record, we came at 3:00pm and there was no one here.) We all had the drinks special (a mango basil margarita) and ordered a whole bunch of appetizers to share. And the food was at a perfect temperature as wonderfully flavored. The staff was super attentive and made sure our margaritas kept flowing. We already made plans to come back and enjoy dinner together. I highly suggest this lace for date night or a night out with friends. Really-really good food......Nothing bad at all. Two of us had the fish sandwich which was fresh and as advertised topped with a spicy slaw on a home made bun! ...the burger with avocado slices was a winner and I had the fries were crispy and fine but my friends had the the kale salad was unique and delicious!...It had peanut dressing so my friend couldn't eat it (she didn't read menu well) and I got it for lunch!
