I am above and beyond with this restaurant!! It is located…read morein a small shopping center and I was not expecting what I experienced . Upon entering I was greeted by what seemed to be the entire staff, which pleased me me . The decor is classic and dimly lit. Making the atmosphere very intimate and inviting. We were greeted by our Waiter(not a server) who diligently explained the evening special. He took our cocktail order and listened intently because I I am a particular customer who demands my Martini just so, in other words....a pain in the ass. The bartender actually came to our table for me to make sure he made my Martini correct. Wow! My Bride Robin ordered the Classic Country style chicken , I ordered the Duck which was usually served with a peach chutney, I asked if the chef would be so kind to make me a orange glaze sauce , he was more than willing to do so. Needless to say both dishes were impeccable and wonderfully prepared. After our main course I ordered a Sambuca with coffee beans and we both ordered the Crème Brûlée garnished with fresh Raspberries and a spearmint sprig. voilà voilà voilà!!! This dinning experience was comparable to the best houses in Manhattan if not better. I am a traditionally trained Chef and I was obliviously beyond impressed. It is my personal opinion that this restaurant is an incredibly hidden culinary gem here in Patchogue . I implore you to not let the opportunity to dine here pass you by. To the owner and entire staff... I say KUDOS to a job well done . Thank you and you may look forward to seeing myself and my family in the very near future.

The new owner is very friendly, makes a point of greeting customers, and seems genuinely invested in creating a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, we noticed some changes to the menu and recipes, and the food just wasn't as good as we remembered. The quality seemed to have slipped, which was disappointing since that's what kept us coming back over the years. One thing that also made us uncomfortable was being repeatedly encouraged to pay in cash for a 10% discount while being told the credit card machines weren't working, even though they clearly were. It gave the wrong impression and took away from the overall experience. The restaurant was only about half full, although that's not unusual during the peak of summer. We're hoping they find their footing because this has been one of our longtime favorites. We'd love to see the food quality return to what it used to be.

Please BEWARE!!!!!! I had one of the word dining experiences…read moreof my life at this restaurant last Friday evening. While eating, I suddenly suffered a painful tongue laceration on my tongue caused buy something sharp in my food. This was not a minor event as ended up in the ER and required to follow up with an oral surgeon. No one goes to dinner expecting to leave needing medical treatment. What is truly unacceptable is the restaurants complete lack of concern afterwards. I made them aware of what happened, and despite the seriousness of the injury, the showed no accountability and no willingness to compensate. They told me they would not compensate for any of the medical bills that I have incurred. This raises serious concerns about their food safety standards, and how they treat customers when things go wrong. In this case their was clearly wrong doing on their part. I would STRONGLY caution others before dining here!!!

We ended up sitting next to the wine fridge and got to interact with anyone who came by to grab a bottle from the selection they had. Food - Since this is curated menu and will constantly change, you will have to come with an open mind to try anything. Please notify your server if you have a food allergy; they were very accommodating to my table with my food allergy and notified the kitchen staff to not cross contaminate. The food was good and it was fun to be surprised with the menu of the day. We had a curry soup, hamachi crudo, surf & turf, and a chocolate dessert. Bill - this was the downfall for the night. Out of the 4 items on the bill, 3 of them were wrong. The price was listed on the menu but the charge on the bill was more; I called ahead to know the corkage fee (which i was told was $35) was charged $45; I also was charged for an extra glass of wine when ordered only one. Be diligent when reviewing the final check of the night. On to my next adventure....

I was absolutely starving after a hectic morning, which involved too many phone calls and a visit…read moreto a government entity. I had to go to the UPS store (avoided rude unpleasant character in Shirley), and saw Howard's Cafe. Looked it up here, seemed great. Went in, and greeted by really NICE people! And they have GLUTEN-FREE rolls! Caryn came to seat me and take my order. She was the BEST! She didn't know if the turkey burgers had breadcrumbs, so I went with the grilled chicken. I also decided that I deserved bacon, so got the Mary, Mary topping--bacon, mushrooms, and sautéed onions. Entrees come with a salad, which arrived in a bowl topped by another bowl, with two things of dressing and croutons on the side. Caryn didn't think that I could have the croutons, and she was right. The salad was iceberg lettuce, which I hadn't had in YEARS, lol, with tomato and red onion. And a shaker of BAC-O's!! Oh my. Hadn't had those in 30 years. Very salty, which explains why. There was a choice of skinny fries (boo), steak fries, or sweet potato fries. I got the steak fries, which were wedges. Yum! The grilled chicken was yummy and generous, the bun was TOASTED (yay), and the toppings piled high. So good! A tad dry, but Caryn brought me some mayo. I forgot to order cheese. Ack. This is a nice place, with a bar filled with convivial locals, a cheerful bartender, and the marvelous Caryn. There are booths and tables. The iced tea came with two slices of lemon! I was SHOCKED when I got the bill. SHOCKED. It was $20.06 for a LOT of food and an iced tea! I took half the sandwich home because I couldn't finish it. I did finish all the salad--and Caryn asked if I would like more (declined)--and all the fries. Astonishing. What a great value!! That seems so rare these days. I had looked at the menus of a couple of other nearby places. Very glad that I chose this one. Sad that it's not near me, but I'll be back.
