    We LOVE Bistro 58
    Jim D.

Hey folks, Welcome to Jake's Bistro 58 bar. Located on Jake's casino ground floor across from the check-in desk. It was great to be back here again after all the covid closures. Many of the staff team were still here and remembered me after our 2 year absence. Thank you. Really hungry and thirsty, I pulled up to the bar. I was grateful that the place was still here. The menu availability was brief. Only about 10 items, Ive included a recent menu photo. There's currently no Sunday buffet or dinner items like steaks ect available at this time. The courtesy and interaction from the staff really helped make up for the current void of their other usual amenities. I really enjoyed my drinks, talking with the bartenders. I ordered a hot cheese steak sandwich, I was so grateful for anything, I inhaled the hogie in minutes. Watching last night's Mets game as I ate was ok, as they did win. It was so good to get out again. We we're happy for company and a few drinks at a bar again. The lack of some of their items was understandable . We're really looking forward to the return of the steaks and buffet again. Thanks again to the staff who made a big difference. See you folks again soon.

So its a hotel restaurant right outside of Jake's 58 Casino. It's a solid "3 stars", not too bad but nothing special. Decor is okay, it's open and airy. Service was pretty slow. They could certainly do better.

We ordered the kids Mac and cheese and chicken fingers with fries. Unfortunately they brought out a burger instead of my daughter's chicken fingers along with my other child's Mac and cheese and we told them it was wrong. My poor child was starving while everyone else's food came out already and she had to wait for hers but luckily we had some fries for her from our dish to share. I got a French onion soup and you can see it was a bit burnt on top. The soup was too salty and I couldn't take more than 3 sips. My husband enjoyed his chicken sandwich and I liked my cobb salad. My youngest enjoyed her Mac and cheese.

Reservations are highly recommended. A lot of my mom friends rave about this place and I got to dine here twice with them, once for brunch and the other for dinner. The first time I came here was with my child for brunch. I got a mocktail and we ordered chicken and waffles along the unadvertised kids menu containing chicken fingers and fries. Portions for both dishes were generous and took home the leftovers. We also shared the Brussels sprouts and the infamois complimentary bread, which were really good. The second and most recent time we went was for dinner with the a huge group of moms. We shared the Caesar salad, Brussels sprouts, and general two's cauliflower, which was amazing. I had the red sangria and a taste of the Huckleberry lemonade, drinks were strong. For the entrees I ordered the salmon and once again portion was huge, took it home and the hubby ate the leftovers. Other moms ordered the frose, spicy paloma, le poulet and spicy Rigatoni. At the end we had key lime pie which tasted great but I was too full to finish it. I'll be coming to this spot more often because of great company and food!

Heard the guy next to us order a French dip and the waiter said great, we have only 2 left. So when he came to us I ordered and he said great timing it's the last one. Took 45 minutes to get our strawberry salad which was delicious. Another 3o minutes go by (and the guy next to me who ordered the other French dip had already finished and left) So the strawberry waiter, after more than 1.15hr walk over and says "hey, we ran out of the French so I ordered you the steak sandwich. Huh? 1 hour and fifteen min later you ran out and the other guy already ate and left? I said great, but I'm not paying for it. 10 min later the owner came out. He could not have been a friendlier, responsible and all around nice person. It wasn't that he not only covered my meal but the table but it was the way he handled it. Owning a restaurant is not easy and problems happen. Food - 8/10 Prices 9/10 Place 8/10 I would not only recommend this place but they have absolutely earned my business. We were seated immediately in the room toward the back left corner where we were the only table occupying the space. In fact, as the evening progressed, no other diners/groups were seated back there, which was nice. We observed that although it was a Friday evening at prime dinner hour, the restaurant never got too full nor was the bar area buzzing. Again, it was nice that it wasn't so hectic in there, but we noted that as curious for a spot like this, on a Friday evening, and when the weather was pleasant. Starting with a high point: our server was really good. He was a very nice young man who let us know at the end of our meal that it was actually his first day on the job. While we could tell he didn't know everything about the menu - which is totally understandable given him being a new hire - he was kind, personable, and went above and beyond to provide excellent and timely service. As for the venue, it was nice although not upscale and that was just our speed for this evening. We loved having the room to sit comfortably at a setup that could comfortably seat 8. As for the food, it was decent although I wouldn't call anything I tasted fantastic. For apps, we shared 2 orders apiece of calamari, crab cakes, and lamb chops (6 apps total) with the chops being my favorite out of those. The calamari were small and didn't pack a lot of flavor but they were fried well. The marinara sauce that came with it was also fine but not remarkable. The crab cakes were a little mushy for our liking. For my entrée, I ordered the Lobster Rigatoni. There was plenty of lobster on top, the portion was more than solid, and it came out at the right temperature but the flavor again failed to really impress and was somewhere between "fine" to "good". For dessert, I ordered the chocolate lava cake, and I was truly disappointed by that. For starters, there was no gooey "lava" as the name implied, and the edges were dry and seemed overcooked. The flavor again fell a little flat and I didn't bother to finish it even though I am usually a huge fan of chocolate desserts. All in all, we had an enjoyable evening as a crew, but the food could be elevated a bit from a flavor standpoint. I would give the food a little better than a "3" but I think they have enough going for them that amping up the flavors could do wonders for their desirability and drawing more diners.

Between the warm, cozy atmosphere and a live band playing, it felt festive without being chaotic. It's exactly what you want during the holidays. Spinach, artichokes, béchamel, shaved parm, mozzarella, garlic dressing, and baby arugula all working together in perfect harmony. Easy 10/10. I'm still thinking about it and already planning my next visit just to order it again. Next up was the crab rangoon dip, which was rich, indulgent, and dangerously good. Followed by the beer cheese jumbo pretzel. They wee soft, salty, and exactly what you want alongside drinks. Zero regrets. We wrapped things up with the Kung Pao Cauliflower Bites, and they were such a pleasant surprise. The tempura cauliflower stayed crispy, the General Tso's-style sauce had just the right balance of sweet and heat, and the cashews, sesame seeds, and scallions added great texture. Drink-wise, we shared a bottle of wine from their solid selection, but I also have to shout out their massive cocktail menu, so many options that I'll definitely be back to explore it properly next time. My wife and I have been wanting to dine at The Union, in Westbury, for quite some time. Tonight,…read morewe both had a craving for a good burger, and wanted to enjoy this beautiful evening, in a nice outdoor setting. With that I said let's try the Union. The Union, is located in Eisenhower Park. The path leading up to the restaurant, is surrounded by mounds of stunning flowers. The restaurant itself has a very nice open look, with a very long 10 seat bar. The rear of the restaurant has a beautiful and spacious patio overlooking the golf course. Sitting on the patio gives a feel that you're dining at a very exclusive country club. The menu is primarily geared for sushi & steak, but has a number of salads, as well as pizza. We began our meal by sharing a Greek salad. My only objection with the salad, was that the feta cheese had a bland taste, unlike the salty creamy taste that typically exudes from feta cheese. The other issue with the salad, was that it was served with a miniature serving tong. The tong, aside from being tiny, did not easily close to pick up portion's of the salad. We asked the waiter if he can provide us with a serving spoon & fork. After 10 minutes the waiter returned with a regular sized fork & spoon, and to our dismay, said the restaurant didn't have any other serving utensils. Next, we moved on to our main reason for our being there, which was to enjoy the 10 ounce cheeseburger & fries. Unfortunately, when we began eating, our burgers, it was pretty apparent that the sesame buns the burgers were served in weren't fresh, and shouldn't have been served to customers. I did note that quite a few patrons ordered burgers, and I noticed that most patrons took the burger out from the buns. I will never understand why a restaurant would serve patrons any item that's past its useful life. Finally, the restaurant redeemed itself with dessert. The waiter suggested that we try the warm apple covered beignets, which I say was a big YUM!. All in all I have to say I was disappointed with my first visit to the Union, but the ambiance, and the overall delight of the outdoor setting will draw me back again sometime this summer.

Sometimes it's really good, and other times it's like they forgot to season anything. But also now, on our most recent visit, we noticed the portions seemed to have gotten smaller. The positives are that the interior is clean, spacious, and nicely decorated with high ceilings. If the weather is nice, you can sit outside, where there's even a putting green to enjoy while you wait for your food or after you're finished eating. The waitstaff has always been friendly and happy to offer recommendations. Over the years, we've tried quite a variety of their menu: pancakes, several burgers, the biscuit benedict, the Shegg sandwich, avocado toast, chicken and waffles, fried pickles, and more. So what's been inconsistent? How do you serve unseasoned ground beef? It's not pleasant. Have you ever had breakfast sausage with almost no seasoning? We have--and it was here. What about the portion sizes? Just compare my photos of the fried pickles from different visits, and they'll tell the story (the outside one was the most recent). Or if you've ordered a Bloody Mary recently, you might be wondering what happened to the mountain of slaw that used to come with it. The Shed isn't a cheap restaurant, so with the premium prices, I'd expect a lot more consistency when it comes to the food.
