A group of 6 of us dined here last night to celebrate a friend's birthday and use up some gift cards. We had a reservation for 7:30pm originally for 5 people but that we had called and changed to 6 people two days prior. 2 of our 6 arrived before the reservation and told the hostess who had them wait for the rest of the party who arrived all together at just 7:33. The hostess was friendly when we told her we were all here but said they were "waiting on a table to open up." What's the point of a reservation if we're going to spend a half hour waiting at the hostess stand before we're seated? Finally though around 8 we sat down (and noticed many open tables on the further side that never were filled in the whole time we were there...).
Almost immediately after we all sat and put our coats on the back of our chairs the waitress came over for our drink orders besides the waters we already had. She was nice and pleasant but seemed impatient when we literally hadn't even gotten a chance to look at anything as we only just sat down. They kept us waiting so long but then couldn't spare another minute so we could decide on something? She came back after a few minutes and we ordered the $20 wine special which was good for us!
After that, she came back to take our food order (chicken meatball lasagna, chicken francaise, and the seafood marinara but in oil & garlic). In the time we waited for our food and that we ate, she never came back to see how it was going. My visibly pregnant cousin had to ask the busboy/food runner (a very nice, attentive boy!) multiple times to send the waitress over so she could get more water. Again, the waitress was nice and smiling but just not very good at serving us. We skipped dessert, even though it was a birthday dinner, just so we could get out of there. The food was delicious but just a bad service experience.
When it came time to pay, I gathered the three gift cards and asked the waitress if she could take these off the total and then bring us the remaining balance to pay. She replied immediately, so that it was curt and almost annoyed "I can't do that." She must've caught how it seemed and said in a sweeter tone, "the computer won't let me, but I can check the gift card balances first instead." She did and we only had about $2 left to pay, which was good since we weren't feeling very generous to Butera's at this point.
As we were leaving, our waitress and a man who seemed like the manager or owner were at the hostess stand. Only after I had completely passed by them and stepped outside did he say good night and thanks to our group. Yes, I could've initiated it as I walked past him but it's his restaurant and he should be better at making his patrons want to return!
Overall, great food and not too too pricy as long as you don't over order but poor service, besides the busboy!

UPDATE (1/23/16)
One of the owners, Martin, reached out to me to apologize for our experience and to extend an offer to make it up. He was gracious for the good in my review and understanding and considerate of the criticism. I believe an owner who takes the time to keep up on his reviews to make his restaurant the best it can be is okay in my book! Since the food was good and well priced and the place seemed to be well liked, it must've been an unusually short-staffed night or perhaps or waitress was just having a rough day before she came into work.
I appreciate Martin's apology and will return again soon to leave with a better taste in my mouth - figuratively of course! read more
