Saturday night is our designated date night, and this past weekend, our friends chose Sangria 71, a place I hadn't dined at in nine years. The restaurant was busy, and they offered valet parking, which made arrival easy. When we arrived, our table wasn't ready yet, but the staff kindly asked if we wanted high-top tables by the bar, which we declined. The bar area is quite expansive and has a cozy feel, so I'm not sure why I didn't recognize the restaurant from my previous visit. Once seated, we were promptly approached by our server, who took our drink orders with promptness and friendliness. One thing that hasn't changed is the restaurant's lively atmosphere. Its noisy and can be difficult to hear each other, especially if you're sitting near a crowded table enjoying sangria. The lively ambiance is part of the experience, but it does make conversation a bit challenging. For our meal, I ordered the Lobster Meat & Shrimp in garlic sauce, which I found to be very flavorful. My partner ordered the Chicken Lemoine, and she enjoyed it very much. Overall, our dining experience was pleasant, and the service was excellent throughout the evening. Been here for lunch and it's great! First time for dinner and still very good! Service was excellent despite how packed the place was, our waitress still checked on us to make sure everything came out okay. I like that they have a lamp on the table, if you tap it it changes the lighting depending on your mood. We did the price fix for restaurant week and it did not disappoint. For appetizers we had the beef empanadas and seafood stuffed mushrooms. Dinner I had the fresh grilled cod which was very good just had to brush off the capers as the price fix menu did not mention this, no big deal. My husband had the chicken sangria which was also very good. Dessert we did Flan and Pistachio Cake. If I had to pick the better of the two I would go with Pistachio Cake! If I could leave a zero I would! My family and I came here the day before Mother's Day, and it was HORRIBLE! Six people made a reservation in advance, but it was not honored. I waited over an hour for my reservation. We sat down, they served my appetizers and sangria pitcher, but only my daughter's meal arrived. We ordered two churrasco, one medium and one well done. We felt like we were getting heckled in Spanish right in front of our faces. Understood a few choices words which prompted us to get up leave mid meal. My chicken was tender but bland just needed some salt an pepper The shrimps were overdone I had to spit one out overdone. We came here for dinner. The restaurant is pretty large and I was surprised that they only had a couple of other tables dining here. I ordered the lobster from the special menu. The whole lobster was $25, so I thought that was a very good price. And it tasted pretty good. We came here mainly for the paella, so we ordered the Paella Valenciana. This restaurant requires valet parking which I thought was unnecessary considering the parking space available. The food was palatable, however, it was not amazing. The seafood did not taste very fresh and the paella was slightly dry. None of the tapas really wowed me. Ok so, we've been to different locations, but none as great as this one (Commack). The food is always great. We ordered to begin, the grilled octopus & fried artichoke hearts. Both delish! We also ordered the seafood paella & added chorizo to it, for 4 (there were 3 of us eating from it). Really, really good! Although if I had to nit pic, the paella isn't serviced on the traditional paella pan that it's cooked in. So for the authentic Spaniards, there aren't pieces of burnt on rice corners that we are used to. For desert we ordered Churros, Coconut tres leches, choc tres leches & choc lava cake. All amazing. The service was I think even better than the food. They didn't rush us out, they were tentative & just all together made the already great food a great experience. After being completely disrespected and mistreated at Outback in Commack, we called Sangria 71 to see if they could possibly accommodate 16 people for a 90th birthday celebration, last minute. Without hesitation, they said, "Come now, we'll make it happen." We left Outback and headed to Sangria 71, and from that moment, everything turned around. The food was fabulous, the sangria did not disappoint, and they even surprised us with a birthday note for the guest of honor. Our server Teresa was absolutely amazing, warm, attentive, and made us feel like we were celebrating in her own home for the holidays. She handled every detail flawlessly, even helping capture photos to remember the night. What started as a disappointing evening turned into something truly special. Excellent place! We got delivery. What great food. They even make homemade potato chips which were great. The filet mignon was divine, it's in kind of in a mushroom wine sauce. Very tender and soupy. Paella marina I think we got, the saffron rice, all of it was delicious. It's good to try something besides pizza and burgers this place is definitely worth a try. The scallop wrapped in bacon on pineapple was awesome and the sautéed mushrooms and seafood stuffed mushrooms were devoured pretty quick. We promised to come try this restaurant whenever we came to the area and we are so glad we finally made it. While running errands on a weekend afternoon, we stopped in at the tail end of their lunch menu and we remade a promise to come back for dinner. Decor inside is very classy but casual at the same time if that makes any sense. At least we weren't self conscious coming in jeans during the lunch menu. Very very impressed with Sangria 71. My wife hosted a work party for about 15 people. My job was to get them a cocktail at the bar and then escort them to our table. Me? While I do like a good cocktail, my go to is a glass of Rioja. Sangria 71 does offer Tempranillo on the happy hour menu. Don't fret because Tempranillo is the main grape in Rioja. Some Rioja wines are 100% Tempranillo so I hope that eases confusion. Sangria 71 offers a really nice wine pour of Tempranillo during the happiest of hours. We had a gift exchange and we set up a table. The restaurant is deceiving, it's actually quite large. I see a party going on the back*? The menu is substantial, there are lots of meat choices! The next time I come back I'm going to order for my wife & I the Churrasco / assorted meat platter for two. The tapas also are crazy good, the Camarones en salas (Shrimp in garlic sauce) will make it a must order every time we come back. When I was touring the Med with a bunch of Marines, we stayed about 3 months in Spain. I fell in love with the foods! Although, most people tend to gravitate towards paella, I zeroed in on the Fresh Grilled Cod. Such a simple yet elegant dish that was prepared perfectly. I must point out, having a large party brings up the different dietary concerns. One diner had a nut allergy and another was a strict vegetarian. So I came here for Long Island restaurant week and I was first met with a mandatory valet? It as strange because their parking was all in the back. My mom is handicapped so it worked out that there was a valet / it was complimentary of course - just should tip at the end. Unfortunately the valet brought my moms car to the furthest part of the parking lot when it was time to leave. You'd think they'd bring it back to where you got out and dropped it off but it was a good 50 feet away if not more (defeating the purpose of helping a handicapped woman) As for the restaurant inside / it was very crowded which is a good sign generally - they had a lobster special going but we were there for restaurant week! The apps were very tiny portions. The shrimp was okay but nothing to write home about. The entrees were unexpected: they came with a side which we both chose rice. The rice came on a separate plate and in a nice portion. The entree plate had lots of sauce which adding the rice to it really soaked up the flavor. For dessert I decided on flan. Again it was typical: Loretta good but nothing outrageous. Generally for restaurant week I like to try new places to see if I'd return but after my time at sangria I think I'll keep it in mind but not running to go backZ I'm sure their normal menu has some great items but restaurant week was just ok in my book. read more

This review is specific to the event that I just attended. Our professional association of pediatric oncology nurses held it's monthly meeting in the back room. The room was conducive to a private meeting, expert attentive service in a well appointed room that was closed off from the dining room when needed to allow for conversation and our fabulous keynote speaker's presentation. Our fixed menu was well chosen by our facilitator. We started with tapas. An (over)abundance of crisp calamari (w/ tentacles!) , tortilla, camarones en garlic salsa, and chorizo la sangria. Not included in this package, a well made negroni was only $12. Mid course was a fresh mixed green salad. My entree choice, Chicken a la Sangria featured two tender boneless breasts in a delectable mushroom garlic sauce. Shareable platters of saffron rice, sauteed string beans, and addictive potato chips made this a satiating meal. I finished the evening with an espresso and eco boxed an ample slice of chocolate mousse cake to go for my favorite daughter to celebrate her successful nursing semester finals. In the main dining room a classy crooner, a lively bar with all the essential games on, and unfortunately a missed sighting of the Infamous YELP Black Baron! The croquettes were bit of a fail though, however the paella is a great deal for the price with tons of fresh seafood and chicken in it. Staff was very nice and really welcoming and accommodating. Would I go here again? Yes, especially if I'm in the area coming back from the Hamptons and need a mid island traffic break meal, but definitely better basque tapas available in this city. Very nice atmosphere. Walked in on a whim last night for drinks and food and there was a sax player. He was awesome. We sat at the bar and Milton served us. He was pretty cool. The margaritas he made weren't bad but not the best. I had one spicy and then a mango. Very strong though! I ordered the crab and avocado appetizer and mussels in red sauce. The mussels were tasty but seriously the smallest portion I've ever seen and the crab and avocado app was pretty bland. I doused it in salt, pepper and lemon and it was alright. The Beef Empanadas were delicious & not greasy. The Complimentary salad was great Just a little to much vinegar. The bread & olive oil were warm & olive oil was amazing. I had the stuffed lemon chicken & my husband had the veal. We both enjoyed everything. The waiter Carlos was amazing. The only thing it lacked was refilling the water at dinner & we are not a fan of frozen veggies. Went for our office holiday party, great pick Jill! We all really enjoyed it! The drinks were great as was the service and the food. A large bar runs as you enter and there are different dining areas separated away from it. Vibe is a traditional Spanish style. The food was absolutely outstanding. I had a passion fruit margarita & then tried a mango one both delish but passion fruit will always be my fav. I tried garlic soup because I never had it & was curious, it was good & very garlicky. Also had the honey coated fried manchego it was really good, my entree was the chicken al limon...wow wonderful. Tender chicken stuffed with cheese and a delicious sauce and rice on the side. First of all we had no idea it would be a limited menu otherwise we would not have done it because the options were not that good but we tacked on some extras which ended up costing a fortune and honestly the only think worth it were those manchego cheese bites in a honey glaze. For the event tho, we split the brussel sprouts which were nothing special, chicken empanada and potato croquettes-those croquettes were amazing, very tasty and not dry at all like most croquettes I've had in the past. For the entree we got two of the chickens and one of the shrimps-both dishes lacked any flavor at all and was literally just shrimp on a plate-not sure if normal dinner would come with anything tho? The side options were saffron rice, potato chips and veggies. The chips were literally a bag of kettle chips dumped on a plate and the veggies were string beans which I don't like. Rice was ok but again lacking flavor. For dessert we got the pistachio cake and that was actually good but honestly for the price this place isn't worth it.
