I had an engagement party for my daughter last night at my home. I searched for restaurants who cater and came across Mabella. I knew they had great reviews so I took a chance and ordered food. Without hesitation, this was hands down the most delicious Italian food I have ever had!!! Maria took my order on a day the restaurant was not open yet. She was extremely helpful with how much food I needed. She did not over sell me on quantity where as most others would try to sell more. When food arrived, I met Frank who was also very helpful in setting up the trays in an order in which guests would choose from. It was an absolute pleasure meeting them both!!! Service - Nice but glacial. You have to tell your server to have the dishes out in a quicker pace. The wait time between the apps and the entree was too long to the point that we didn't want to sit there any more. Food Mussels in Garlic Lemon White Wine Sauce - Clean. the sauce was perfect for dripping the table bread and the mussels were plump and fresh. Calamari - Tender. You know when squid is overcooked, they tend to be rubbery? This place has perfected it and it was the most tender calamari I've had. Chicken Milanese - over dressed. The dressing placed on the salad was sopping! If it were to sit on the chicken, it would've gone through to the breading and make it mushy. Ask for the salad on the side. read more

Mabella easily deserve five stars! There is simply nothing not to love about this place. I called in a reservation and the moment my fiancé and I walked in the hostess knew we were the ones that called. It gave me the impression that most the people in the restaurant were regulars/returning customers which was pretty impressive seeing as it was a packed house. The service from the hostess and our server were impeccable again especially for how packed it was. Finally the food! My eggplant rolatini was arguably one of the best I have ever had. Somehow the eggplant stayed super firm and the sauce and cheese were to die for! I cannot wait to return. read more

I was last at MaBella's about 4 years ago when I met my son for lunch. It left a really good impression, so last night I went there again with my son and daughter-in-law. It was even better this time! This is a small place in a strip mall on Commack Rd. The inside was really nicely decorated with Valentines Day not too far away. There's a nice bar on the right with seating to the left. We started off with appetizers of calamari and capellini cakes. Both were good, I liked the fried calamari better of the two. Our meals ranged from my Frankie's Veal Scaloppini, to my son's Bella's Scarparella, to his wife's Eggplant Parmigiana. All the meals were excellent, I thought the veal was very well prepared. Even though we had a reservation, we still had about a 10 minute wait, but the owner was very apologetic and accommodating. She also stopped by at our table to make sure we were satisfied. We had a large birthday luncheon for my mom this past Sunday and it could not have been better. It was all of our first time there on a very trusted recommendation! The table was set beautifully. The food was fantastic. Maria is an expert at her craft! All of our servers, especially Brianna, were wonderful. Everyone was so kind and caring. Our guests raved about it and we will all return. I got the chicken bisentino with vegetables. It was quite tasty. The vegetables were mostly zucchini tho. The place was very cute and had a nice ambiance to it. The staff were very nice but not always there to refill drinks and ask of everything was ok. Was in Long Island and decided to stop by hoping to have a good meal. The restaurant is in a corner of a small lot and is a little difficult to see from the road. The hostess (who I also found out was owner) Maria was not friendly at all when she greeted us or went to sit us. The waiters were not the friendliest either. They kept standing by the bar to watch the game instead of checking on tables more frequently. The food was mediocre. I would not say it was terrible but I have had a lot better at other locations. The clams were tender and fresh and the stuffed zucchini flowers were very tasty and good. However the eggplant parm and chicken parm for dinner were just o.k. The breading completely fell off, it was drowning in sauce (which was nothing to brag about), and they served with plain spaghetti and sauce which tasted straight out of the box and was not properly drained. It resulted in a soup consistency on the plate between the water and sauce. The cocktails were not great either. I would say if you are in a pinch for time or in the area it is not bad, but nothing more than that. There is a lot better Italian food in New York. read more

I had never heard of MaBella before my good friend suggested we have dinner here. She had already been here a few weeks prior and raved about how good the food was. Funny enough, we actually sat at the same table she sat at last time. I made a reservation the night before and i'm glad I did; the place seemed to fill up very quickly. I ordered the shrimp parm ($27) and my friend ordered the penne ala vodka ($17). $17 for just pasta seemed a little high to me. Nonetheless, the shrimp had a nice crisp texture and sauce was really good. Was not really a fan of the pasta that came on the side--it was okay. It reminded me of angel hair and I really don't like that type of noodle. However, the meal as a whole was really delicious! read more

Met friends at this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. Although a small dining area (approximately 12 tables) the service and food were outstanding. The rice balls and spring rolls were very good but be aware the sauce for the rolls was spicy. Veal dinner with spaghetti was delicious and portions were larger than other Italian restaurants I've been too and a good value for the buck. I was too full for desert although the cheese cakes and affogato were great per my party. I'd recommend the cappuccino. Love me some MaBella. The owner and family are wonderful people, very warm, inviting and home-y atmosphere built on a solid foundation of great food! MaBella is the go to meeting spot for me and my family as it's right in the middle of both of us. It's not expensive like most Italian restaurants seem to be these days, and $8-$10 a glass of wine!! The food is delicious, many of the vegetables grown in their own garden from what I hear - you go to the east end and you're paying big bucks for "farm to table", skip that jazz and head to MaBella instead. For appetizers we've eaten both styles of Calamari which comes out perfectly cooked - not chewy like some places - with either a tasty marinara on the side (5/5), or spicy and mixed together arrabiata style(4/5)! Also loved the stuffed zucchini flowers(4.5/5), light and flavorful. Entrees we've enjoyed are Eggplant Rollatini Dinner (5/5-so good!), Chicken Francese(4/5), Stuffed Pork Loin (5/5), Pollo Bisentino (4.5/5). Check out some of my photos. First time customers and wow!! Food was delicious and amazing! Service was awesome, owner on premise, came over and checked in on us. This is rare service nowadays. We enjoyed fried calamari appetizer, lightly breaded and crispy. Excellent not drowned in oil. Ordered the veal Parmesan, nice portion, sauce was great. MaBella is a great restaurant. The owners are extremely nice and accommodating. We sat outside in the courtyard which was nicely setup to distance customers from the road noise of Commack road. A few things I ordered were: pear salad (absolutely delicious), their flatbread pizzas (also great), and the blackened salmon which was cooked to perfection. Ordered almost $400 worth of catering and all my guests when asked honestly said it was not good. When I ate at Mabellas couple of years ago. The food was good and had quality ingredients. The shrimp oreganata was embarrassingly small. If I wanted bad food I would have gone to Patrezias in Commack. Better off sticking with Manninos. Atleast you know your getting quality product. It's my sister in laws birthday and she chose to have dinner with her family at the family owned restaurant MaBella. My sister in law is over the moon with the MaBella Bolognese. She compares other restaurants to the MaBella Bolognese. I'm glad to dine with her family so I may sample this family recipe from Acri, Calabria. My dining family style, my wife and I like to order one large spaghetti dish and one protein. I love Branzino so we each have a sharing dish. While we placed our entree orders, the hot antipasto and caesar salad comes to the table. The various items were cooked to perfection, the calamari was lightly fried, as well as the shrimp. I'm not an eggplant fan, there are rollups on the platter. The five of us are enjoying this dish along with my bottle of Peroni. Now come the entrees. I'm told the homemade spaghetti of the day is Gemelli and of course we topped that with the famous MaBella Bolognese. The Branzino has two fillets topped with pink peppercorns? I mean, not a few peppercorns but a ton of these things. Now before I get emails calling me a dumb Italian American (Part Greek) I am telling you I have never had any peppercorns with Branzino. I'm sure they eat them like popcorn but as for me? I could have done without them. My wife is already making a face. The fish was cooked perfectly and tasted well after I scraped off this peppercorn stuff. Long Island is peppered (see what I did there) with these small Italian trattorias, Billy Joel sings it best: I'll meet you anytime you want, in our Italian restaurant but hold the peppercorns..
