These are one of the tougher reviews to make. It is easy to be enveloped by the plethora of great restaurants in the competitive nature that is NYC, but when you venture all the way out here to Babylon, NY, you have to change that mindset a bit. The Brixton is a beautiful restaurant with very relaxed and casual vibes. The word around town is that their drinks are awesome. What about their food, though? They originally would not seat us in the middle of the afternoon because most of the empty tables were reserved. We had to request to sit outside, which was empty, before they decided to serve us. Odd that they did not even offer that to us. The General Tso' Cauliflower was the only great thing served to us. It is incredibly crispy and flavorful. You almost forgot that you were eating a piece of vegetable at times. The Short Rib Brisket Sesame burger was shocking. $18 for two White Castles-sized sliders. It was easily consumed, and I was left much to be desired. This is most definitely an appetizer item, not an entree. The Chicken Waffle was good. Nicely deep-fried and packs a lot of flavor. The waffle looked dubious. If I had to guess, it might not be mad fresh to order. Essentially, it's 3 drumsticks/wings over a possibly frozen Eggo waffle. I would recommend a second dish if you are looking to get full. The Steak frites and Eggs Benedict were the final dishes served. It is hard to mess these dishes up, but the ribeye was nicely seasoned and cut up. The dishes were nicely displayed. Overall, this is just an OK experience. When the deep-fried cauliflower appetizer is the most memorable dish here, it is quite alarming. Portion sizes are on the small end, and none of the flavors for the entrees really stuck out. I went to this cute brunch spot for my friends bday! Firstly, the ambiance is really nice. There was live music and the place is nicely decorated. Unfortunately, there was a man who was excessively drunk sitting besides us. The head chef noticed this and escorted him out promptly. Secondly, the service was pretty good too. They were able to take care of a big group of people. Lastly, the food was aesthetically pleasing but the taste was generally okay. My recommendations: Fire fries: loaded with avocado and egg. It's so tasty and great appetizer for a big group of friends (5/5) Avocado toast: small portion but it was tasty! There was an egg with a delicious chili honey drizzled on top (4.5/5) Brunch-wrap supreme: super hefty but packed with egg, short rib, and home fries (4.5/5) Blueberry fauxjito: perfect balance of sweet, acidic, and tart (5/5) sex on the Peach: sweet! Blew me away. Elevated food and drinks and really lovely, accommodating staff. Quick background, we called ahead from the train on a very rainy night to see if they could accommodate us and when we arrived, there had been a misunderstanding and we couldn't be seated. Left to find another spot and got a phone call a few minutes later. The hostess had rearranged things and got us a table. She did not have to go to the trouble and it was so appreciated that they went above and beyond for us. From the time we sat, service was attentive and friendly and the food exceeded all expectations. It's small plates, which I love, and they serve everything on a rolling basis so a hungry family can pretty much start eating right away! Drinks are crafty and delicious, my husband is still raving about their peach iced tea. I had a mezcal cocktail that was perfectly mixed. The lemon pepper wings are some of the best I've ever had, the flavor is somehow all throughout the meat. The birria tacos were amazing - the dipping sauce packs a spicy punch but it's super flavorful. On to crispy rice tuna and Brussels sprouts- the tuna was fabulous. The Brussels were good, but had a very strong flavor of garlic powder (like the artificial kind that people sprinkle on pizza), which was a bit of a deterrent. Peperoncini deviled eggs were an unexpected treat that I hope stays on the menu forever, because I'll be back for those specifically. Finished this outstanding meal with a shared ice cream sandwich that was a perfect ending. We ate in the bar area which was tight, but no complaints. Service was on point clearing empty plates almost immediately and we never felt cramped or uncomfortable. Prices for the small plates range from about $16-$22. The staff is usually attentive and friendly, which is why this visit was disappointing. We had a 6:30 reservation on a Friday night and were told there was a 2-hour limit, which we understood. However, at exactly 8:30, the hostess came over and told us we had to leave because another reservation had arrived early. The interaction felt abrupt and a bit rude, especially since it seemed more like we were being pushed out due to the restaurant being crowded and loud. The Brixton is a very small space with poor acoustics, so on busy nights you end up practically yelling across the table to have a conversation. On top of that, the Monday Bunday chicken also seems different than it used to be and just hasn't been as good lately. We still appreciate the service overall and have had many good visits here, but this experience definitely left us disappointed. read more

This is my favorite happy hour spot in Suffolk as of right now. Happy hour ends at 7 which is great for the 9-5ers. The food never dissapoints but the hummus is top tier!! I never wanted to go back to a place over hummus but surprisingly this place makes me. On Mondays they have a $3 bao bun special and a few of those plus the hummus is all you need. They have a taco Tuesday menu (look online) that has some homemade Taco Bell items on it and it was very delicious. We got the crunch wrap supreme, fiesta potatos and cool ranch chicken quesadilla. The crunch wrap was superior, but the potato's and quesadilla were both very good as well. Everything on the menu was $15 or less too! I wasn't stunned, and I wasn't disappointed. We had popped in here for cocktails once a while back and the live music, industrial vibe really turned me on to trying them out. The menu included unique flavor combos, which I love. So here's the skinny. Let's start with the ambience. The industrial chic decor includes exposed air conditioning vents. We were in an unfortunate table under a part that was leaking, but the staff quickly and helpfully resolved that. I'd like to say the booth seating is rustic, but it's kind of just in distress. Think "Ground Round" right before they went out of existence. Ok, enough of the dragging, on to the good stuff. We started with the Brussels - delicious. Plate of the night, started us off on the right note, and made me feel like I was doing something healthy. Plate was licked clean. Next up - the duck fries. A touch too forward with the blackberry hoisin. I applaud the creativity, but it felt overpowering. The cheese sauce was decedent and belong as a side for every plate. Duck was extra crispy, good for me, not so for my wife. Something felt missing. After that, short rib toast. Flavor packed and well composed. As my wife would say, could've used some of the cheese sauce haha. But I liked the cotija and picked onions. Finally - the big finish. Mac and cheese. Flavor profile definitely strayed from your run of the mill Mac. But I don't remember seeing any short rib in it. End result - we'd come back everyday, just for the Brussels. Great little place on the strip for a drink or a meal. The front left has a beautiful bar with ample seating. And the back has tables as well as outside on good weather days. Trendy feel with lots of nice detail in the decor. Brunch was very good with lots to choose from for drinks and food. We tried the Brunch Wrap Supreme which was surprisingly "light" for as much braised ribs that came in it. It could use a bit more seasoning but throw that cholula sauce on it and it's good. The chicken and biscuits had an amazing siracha aioli and again, the chicken itself lacked flavor of any kind. Great crispiness to it, though, but I wish this place seasoned their meat even a little bit. The duck buns, I had high hopes for as well, but again was let down by the way the duck was cooked. Again, the only flavor was in the hoisin sauce, and the duck was dry. Made the mistake of rolling the dice with terrible $11/each s'more empanadas and warm brownie & vanilla gelato...don't bother. I never knew vanilla gelato could be flavorless, and a $11 brownie taste cheap and powdery. Great homemade whipped cream though. S'more empanadas had a cheap chocolate sauce inside it that we both hated. Nothing about this was redeemable. Unless something changes with the food quality across the board, I will not be eating here again, and I cannot in good faith recommend this place to anyone with tastebuds (except for the drinks, since my friend seemed to really love her cocktail). read more
