Post Office Cafe is a classic stop in Babylon Village that I often forget. We were in town trying to get 3 teens and myself to agree on a place to eat. Pizza? Nah - the boys just ate that. Chinese or Asian fusion? We just had that the other day. Diner? Nah. My daughter remembered Post Office Cafe and we went. It was very loud in the front and we almost walked out but figured we'd give it a try. They seated us way in the back (I had no idea this place was so huge!) where it was quieter. I ordered a chicken salad of some kind with avocado and salad. My son ordered the mac and cheese - it was the highlight of dinner! Absolutely delicious. His friend got the Thai calamari which was decent until he got to the bottom. It was soaked in seasoning and too sweet. My daughter got the buttered pasta - children's portion. I'll let the photo speak for itself. It was drenched in butter. On the bright side - service was great, most of the meals were excellent, waffle fries on point. I mentioned the pasta and showed our server the pool of butter. He took it off our bill without even asking. I had the fish and chips it was good. The fish was flaky and good with a homemade tarter sauce it was delightful. The fries had old bey seasoning it was good but a little bit salty besides that great flavor on point. The Coleslaw you tell was made in house. I'm not a coleslaw fan but this was actually not bad. The ambiance was nice lights dim and beautiful decor to go with a nice spot. The service was good they got us in quickly. Two to three people asked if we needed anything was everything okay. Overlooking the food on the floor under our table, the nachos looked like the bottom of a bag of chips emptied on a plate, with unmelted grated cheese, drinks were mixed reviews, French dip sandwich was soggy on the bottom and meat ranged from bloody to well done. Came here for a bite to eat after attending a show at the Argyle Theater in Babylon. Not much to say... service was weird, food was mediocre, ambiance was eh, typical. The spring rolls appetizer wasn't too bad, but as basic a cesear salad can be, how was it just ok? Grilled chicken seemed like it was pre-packaged, not fresh. Excellent service, delicious food just way too loud. It's like being in an echo chamber. (And it was only about half full of customers in the middle of a Sunday afternoon between brunch and dinner time.) Salmon bowl was delicious, the Reuben was tasty but thin on ingredients, the chicken club was enormous. Chicken Milanese was excellent except for the croutons which looked and tasted like they came out of a box. They're easy to make and freshly made croutons would really elevate the dish. read more

I can't believe how disappointed I was after my visit! I had decided to check this place out because a few people had mentioned it to me and I had driven past a few times. It definitely is beautiful establishment, very pretty on the outside, and a nice space inside as well. There is a full bar as well as lots of table seating. Once we were seated we were asked if we wanted drinks, and we then placed our food order. Once the food came out, our waitress never came back until it was time to ask for the check. We had wanted more diet cokes/prosecco, but we didn't get a chance to order it. Aside from the service, the food was also sub-par. The chicken quesadilla was overtly fried, and the chicken did not taste good at all. It almost tasted like that type of filler chicken. It didn't taste fresh at all either. The wings were okay, but the sweet potato fries were bad. They were super soggy and lacked any flavor. I thought this may have been an off night, so I did try dining here a few nights later with my husband and we had a bad experience as well. The fries and burger were COLD. On both nights, it was not busy in there at all. The food was consistently bad. I'm not sure I'd return. read more

I was fortunate enough to photograph an office holiday party at the Post Office Cafe. My trip from Mineola was extremely simple and there was plenty of street parking. No meters during the holiday season was also a wonderful thing for the Village of Babylon. This is a very large venue with many different places to sit. I came into the bar area and navigated to the attached party room. (Obviously, this was a very large post office.) It was a very comfortable walk around this very comfortable venue. This was a party of approximately 55 people and as soon as people started to arrive, the appetizers came out in ample supply. There was never a shortage of food here. The private bar area was busy and the team members behind the counter were moving quickly and well. The team here is wonderful and everyone was very attentive to all of the guests and... extremely pleasant. Everyone sat down for the late lunch and were all served very promptly. I stayed at the bar and had a TERRIFIC burger and fries. Plenty of pictures to take a plenty of room to take them. They even helped me move some tables for a group picture. This is a wonderful environment with great food and an amazing team. I am looking forward to returning with my wife for a meal. KUDOs to the team at Post Office Cafe. read more

The Post Office restaurant sounded fun and seemed to have a fair few vegetarian options, so we went there with a bunch of the family. Super cute place, and we were greeted promptly. The menu is interesting, and a number of us were talking about the burgers, and I was super interested in potentially turning the "Truffle shroom" burger into a vegetarian version. Our server said that'd be fine, and when I asked if they could prepare the veggie patty on a separate surface, like a separate pan. She seemed quizzical, and replied that she imagined it shouldn't be a problem, but that she'd have to check with the kitchen. The arancini sounded interesting as well - cacio e pepe - but we wanted to clarify that it was also vegetarian. Our server seemed a little miffed: "it's rice". Our clarification question was whether or not that was prepared with any chicken stock, for example. She said she'd check with the kitchen. When our server returned, she informed us that the kitchen does, indeed, use chicken in their arancini, and added that they can't cook the burger on a separate surface. Really? The kitchen doesn't have a pan? So, "can't" really means "won't". Well, that is just a high level of accommodation. Rather than argue, I relegated myself to just fries, and now limit this this review to a maximum of three stars. That's right; I "can't" give more than three stars to this restaurant. Looking at the titles of the star-levels, Three is "OK", and "could've been better" is far more appropriate. Two it is. The drinks were yummy, and the waffle fries were tasty. So much so that I didn't even think to take a photo of the fries until there was only one left. All in all a fair experience, but the basic refusal of the kitchen to accommodate a legitimate concern of a vegetarian to not have his veggie patty cooked on the same surface as the rest of the meaty burgers is disturbing. read more

Horrible experience today. We didn't even stay to eat. Very poor management. This place was recommended highly. But I will never ever go here. At first there was nobody to greet u at the door. Never the small sign says go inside in the middle to be seated. Then we waited to be seated for 20 mins. They temporarily placed in a small corner booth. Next. Inefficient busboys did not even clean to clear a booth. I had to go to him twice and ask him to clean it. So we could sit but nothing. The waitress did not even hear us out about the brunch menu substituting items. Hope the owner gets to fix this. But patronage is not going to be from end. Had lunch here. They have a great looking menu but the food didn't hit sadly. Ordered the spinach and artichoke dip. It was more soupy than thick. There was no sign of artichoke. The slice of cheese on top looked good but solidified really quick and we had to tear at it to try to eat it. I got the chicken wrap. It didn't have any flavor and seemed to just be the breading of the chicken without any chicken at all. There was no flavor to it at all; not even the ranch. I mainly tasted the burnt part of the wraps. My friend got a salad and said the chicken tasted like prepackaged chicken rather than freshly grilled. The drinks we got were great! Glad I stopped in to Post Office Cafe in Babylon N.Y. for lunch today. I got the Buddah salad with steak which was cooked perfectly and had a nice mix for a hot day. The dessert - see menu- that I ordered Tres Leches with blueberry icecream they were out of. Parking is on the street. Note: bring coins as they are meters. I didn't have but it so happened the meter already had enough time. Pheew! They were a Post Office on the corner, years ago before being converted into the Sports Bar of today. Seems Tuesdays are Life Guard days as they pay no cover. There were a mix people of different ages there today and as they opened at 12:00 noon and stay open late, I expect they get many of the younger local crowds. read more

Went for Easter brunch, no one to greet people, guest walking around looking for someone to seat them, wall to wall people. The most disorganized place I have ever seen! Then we realized they had a bunch of 20 year olds running the show, no clue what they were doing, the food sucked and it should not be called a buffet when you put a bowl of salad next to slimy shrimp, and some hard bagels and cream cheese on a table and charge $50 a person? The dessert area was packaged cookies and the "hot" breakfast was gross French toast, eggs that looked like playdoh and sausage that was chewy as hell! What a disappointment! We visited here on Monday night. It was kind of loud since it was trivia night. It wasn't too busy. We started off with the calamari. It was very overcooked, dry and chewy. I've never had dry calamari before. I think they probably used a batter that was too thin and fried it at too high of a heat. The sauce was good though. I really wanted the fish & chips but they were all sold out, so I ordered the Buddha bowl instead. Which I felt was really strange in what they choose to put in it. It was warm quinoa with sweet potato, roasted cauliflower, overcooked very large halves of brussel sprouts, crunchy carrots, lettuce, chickpeas and avocado. The dish did not feel very cohesive at all and the flavors together were kind of strange. It was pretty bland and had a weird mouth feel. My friend got the PO dirty rice bowl which they really liked. We left feeling like the food wasn't that great. Though the staff were really friendly. I don't think it was worth it. read more

It was cooked perfectly Medium Rare. Could have used a pinch of salt. I wish I remembered to ask if it was char grilled. Blech. I would have ordered something else. That's on me though. I would recommend if catching a show a Argyle. Nice menu with a lot of options from which to choose. All around a good choice. Was it the most amazing meal? No but it was very good. The fish and chips were easily the highlight. The fish was super fresh and cooked to perfection--crispy outside, flaky inside. The fries were also great, nice and crispy, but the seasoning could use some work. They come with Old Bay, but it was barely sprinkled on a couple of fries instead of being evenly coated. Also, the vinegar, which is usually standard with fish and chips, had to be requested. Small details, but they make a difference. The chicken sandwich was underwhelming. The chicken itself was just okay, and something about the bun--maybe liquid smoke?--threw off the whole balance. It didn't really complement the flavors, and in the end, I deconstructed it and ate the chicken with a fork and knife. Definitely not something I'd reorder. The Brussels sprouts were pretty good. They come plain, but we asked for the sweet chili glaze, which made them much better. That said, the glaze leaned on the sweeter side, so if you prefer a more balanced flavor, keep that in mind. Didn't leave super impressed, but not completely disappointed either. Solid 6/10. read more

All the staff were pleasant & friendly .... you can tell how they all worked together from the host to waiter to bus boys... all helping each other out! We got LILY ROSE as our drink & it was spot on! Then I asked for mojito which I didn't care for but waiter was attentive enough to notice & he replace it ... for another Lily rose! (Keep them coming pleaseeee!!!) We got the Thai calamari & it had tons of flavors, loved it! That Thai sauce was so good! I got the Cajun shrimp dirty rice & when I say they were not cheap with the shrimp, believe me! It had small shrimp within the rice and over 6 giant shrimps on top! All the flavors complimented the plate! It was an explosion of flavors for what looked like a small bowl (super deceiving! I was so stuff!!!) I love it... coming back for more!!! for sure!!! It's a regular bar. It's a sports bar. It's a restaurant. It's a multiple party place. It's overly crowded on a Saturday night. Too much going on all at the same time. At 9pm they raise the piped in music super high. Since we were eating dinner you couldn't talk to the person across from you unless you shouted and even then it was hard to hear. Menu is basic, appetizers to share, a few salads, sandwiches, burgers and a few dinner plates. Food was fair. Nachos with chicken barely had any chicken on it. Pasta with shrimp; pasta was overcooked and shrimp were undercooked. Onion rings overly greasy. Bloody Mary was served in a short high ball glass with no garnish, strange, never got one like this before. I ordered a glass of Malbec which was very nice and my husband got a Guinness, perfectly poured. I decided to get the Monterey chicken club with roasted cauliflower. The sandwich was HORRIBLE!!!! Yes, I should have sent it back. It tasted like it was made days earlier. The bread wasn't very fresh, the chicken was like sawdust, totally overcooked. I decided to deconstruct my sandwich and eat things separately. Didn't help... The bacon was a hard tangled hard mess. The cheese was probably melted hours or days earlier. The sandwich was not made to order. If it was made right before serving, that's scary. Yes, I should have sent it back, but we were going to a show... Oh, the cauliflower was plentiful, but equally bad. Hard like rocks, maybe microwaved or baked for a minute. I gave it two stars only because I tasted my husband's fish and chips. A little salty, but not bad. My friend ordered a cobb salad and her chicken did not look as bad. The servers and bussers are mostly kids. What can I say?
