My sister and I were in Babylon and decided to try out The Villager. It definitely has the feel of a local bar/restaurant where the staff knows most of the people come in. We wanted to grab a bite for lunch and had Gina as our waitress. She was great in providing insight to some of the more popular dishes along with her favorites. She's worked there a number of years and her warm personality adds to the family atmosphere. We ended up ordering a Reuben sandwich with tater tots and the Big Mick Empanadas. I do enjoy a good empanada, and when Gina explained that this particular empanada was based on the very popular Big Mick burger (which tastes like a big Mac) I decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. We have dined at the Villager over the years and noticed a decline in the quality of the food. Beer is good but to charge $17.00 for a salad containing lettuce, tiny pieces of cucumber, grape tomato halves, a few corn nibbles, avocado and crushed tortilla chips is a lot. If you want meat its another $5.00. I wouldnt mind but its boring and Ive had better. I actually ordered the vegetarian burger but for the second time they didn't have it. If its not a choice, remove it. The staff are always great, lots of beer choices, so get it together LFRG! read more

Finally a date night with NO KIDS!! As I've reviewed in the past, The Villager is a great place for parents who like good beer and good food but also have to bring their kids with them lol. However, if you can steal away for two hours, this is also a great date spot. The music was from my generation so I was confused why it was so loud? This was my first clue that I am officially old. But that is a me problem not them. We always order the wings (top 5 on the entire island) and the Gouda fries are unparalleled! My husband ordered the gyro. Bold move ordering a cultural dish from non Greeks. He said it was really good! I like that it came on a round instead of a pocket. It gave a quesadillas feel. His only suggestion was to put the siracha on the side since that's not a traditional gyro ingredient. On another bold move, I ordered the Ramen and added braised short ribs. Wow!! I don't know who they have cooking in the back making these authentic meals but this was some of the best Ramen I've ever had. The flavors were so good and the eggs was cooked to perfection (not too runny but not over cooked). Our waitress was very nice as well. I walked in . Great energy. Loved the ambiance. Chill hang out spot . I was excited. The food just was not good tho. I came here for a graduation 'after party' of sorts and everything I tried was not something I would order again. I tried the Mac n cheese. Nope. As a matter of fact. Two ppl ordered it and they both came out differently. One the cheese on top was melted and the other the cheese was still shredded sitting on top. Boneless wings. Nope. And the food is OVER price u clearly see he's runnin out of money . 19 dollars for wings . 22 dollars for Quesadillas , 17 bucks for fried pickles but the ur drinks are 15 -_- oh yeah and I been sitting on the toilet all morning . Can't stress it enough folks, if you're in town and haven't visited Joe and the crew for a late night brew while watching your favorite team play, then I don't know what you're doing. The ambiance is so welcoming and the food? Forget about it! I would recommend everyone to try their SnackWrap, the name itself does no Justice! Let's just say it's your favorite combination of Crispy BACON and fried chicken, what else sounds better then that! Went to the Villager last night to get drinks with some friends. Was waiting on the bathroom line for about 10 minutes when i knocked to alert whoever was inside that i was waiting. Oh boy- Did i make a mistake. This lady tried to fight me and was screaming horrible nasty things for rushing her out. After glaring at me from across the bar she came up behind me to try and sneak me and the bouncers who were working there were amazing and made me feel so much better! This is a lively, fun place to have food and drink! The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is top notch. Like literally, good quality food. Came with my boyfriend for a casual night out. When we arrived it was very loud...and crowded. We didn't know what we wanted to eat...so we decided to share 3 appetizers. Big Pretzel- Basic. nothing wow-ed us. However, the beer cheese was good and my boyfriend enjoyed the mustard. Gouda Fries- Delicious. However, I wish there was more cheese...or the cheese was more evenly spread on the fries. Bang Bang Shrimp- the winner appetizer! It was so delicate and had great flavors. Beers.... You won't find much "brand" beers here. My boyfriend and I both went with the Villager Beer. It was a very light beer...but it was good. Definitely my go to place for craft beers on draft in Babylon! They always have a great variety on tap and the staff is always friendly. The nachos are tasty and filled will lord of great toppings, the fresh avocado is a great touch! One thing I would say is the layering nacho technique needs to happen because once you get to the bottom nachos you have some without anything on them. But overall I would order them again. The Buffalo shrimp is really good and a nice alternative when you aren't in the mood for wings. The French dip sandwich is so delicious and is a nice size sandwich. If I was reviewing the food alone, I'd easily give the Villager 4 stars. Unfortunately the service on a Friday night was extremely slow and made for a sub-par dining experience. The food: Like many other Yelpers suggest, the burgers are perfectly seasoned and those tater tots complement the dishes nicely. The hubby got the DPA dip which was tasty but on the smaller size. The chicken quesadilla was stuffed and bursting with flavor. The drinks: We always love the extensive beer list, there truly is something for everyone. This time we tried a couple mixed drinks, the lavender lemon drop and the spiced piña colada. While tasty, they were not strong by any means. It also took over 30 min to get a second round. Which brings me to.. The service: The bar was packed for an early Friday dinner but we were able to grab a table fairly quickly. There were a few empty tables here and there but maybe two waitresses total for the place. While ours was very kind, it took 20 minutes to get just the menus. She did apologize for the wait and again when drinks took forever but it seemed way too slow for the few amount of tables actually eating. All in all, we'll be back for the food but we will probably sit at the bar next time. read more

I'm pretty simple when it comes to bars. I want a great tap list, knowledgeable bartenders and snackable foods. The Villager is top tier in all of those realms. Drinks: Listen, you can come in here and get a mixed drink or a standard beer, but why? Their tap list is legit and always changing. I've found some of my absolute favorite breweries rotating through here constantly. I'm never bored with what they carry. Food: Duh, it's always great. Give me wings, give me nachos, give me a charcuterie board built around a giant soft pretzel. Plus you can get awesome burgers and sandwiches too (that's just not where I live when I'm at the bar) Atmosphere/Staff: Now the atmosphere varies by the day. During the week, it can be really chill. Sit down, have a meal, watch a game. Weekends get wild, but honestly in a way that I really love. Overall, just know what day it is in order to know what to expect.
