I can't even explain to you how bad the last two visits were in the last two weeks!! My husband and I have been coming to this restaurant since the doors opened. I've always loved it and recommended it to everyone. The last two visits have not been too great not only to the portion but the prices went up. It wasn't as crowded as you would've thought. My husband's lobster was mushy and overcooked my son's girlfriend shrimp on crabcakes she only ate two due to being Bland ,my chicken Was dry and boring and under flavored. The french fries were over salted We went back again last night for New Year's Eve. This is the place that we've been coming to for the last 10 years. We come with the same couple and usually have a great time. There were lines for the bathroom which left people standing close to people's tables. I ordered the New York strip off the bone which came black and blue when I ordered it Medium it had to go back two times and then it came back the last time and I couldn't even eat it. It was butterflied and mangled The manager was aware of this and did nothing. Which is a first for this restaurant My friend ordered the filet mignon which looked like shoe leather. They did take that one back and gave her a new one which was cooked properly with the first send back My husband's and his friends were also black and blue, but they ate them because they didn't want to send back all the steaks at the table . The Waite staff is phenomenal there the management has changed and is terrible. You would've thought that the manager would've came over when I'm spending eighty dollars on a steak and am the only One not eating and just say hi can I get you dessert and coffee? Nope nothing!!! I have $600 bill came for four people and I was so unhappy with the amount of money I spent for food that I could've gotten from JNR steakhouse Sorry but that's how much it changed! Came for a celebration and this restaurant did not disappoint! Our service was wonderful and we will be talking about our dinner here for weeks. The tomahawk was phenomenal, cooked perfectly and the sauce it came with was out of this world good. The complementary bread was so fluffy plus the maple butter was savory sweet. Wow! We came to celebrate a friend's "Friday event" and I'm thoroughly impressed at everything from service to food and ambience. We had a ressie and were early so we sidled up to the bar for a drink- the bartender was a treat- friendly and knowledgeable. A-plus service. When seated for dinner, our server was great. Great experience at George Martins! Dined here last night (Wednesday). Super crowded for a weeknight. I'm personally not a fan of the bread and butter, but my husband and daughter love it. For an appetizer, we ordered the bacon. Definitely worth the $25. It came with two, juicy thick pieces. Ask for the house sauce to pair with it! For our entree, we ordered the porterhouse, creamed spinach, Mac and cheese and fries. My husband got the Gorgonzola crust on the side. I loved the filet portion of the steak, however, the strip was too sweet. Never experienced that taste before with a porterhouse. The presentation was great and the steak was sizzling hot. My daughter enjoyed her Mac and cheese, I enjoyed the fries and my husband enjoyed the cream spinach. Sides are more than enough for two people! I took the chocolate cake to go. Another delicious meal and great experience at George Martin Strip Steak... and this time we brought the kids! They loved the speakeasy vibe and were amused by the artwork. Our server (Danielle I think) was fabulous and helped us figure out the best food options for the kids. The vat of mac and cheese delighted my youngest, while my old one got the filet she had been looking for. I did the price fix (which I wish the menu was available on their website) and it comes with a salad, entree and dessert. I did the ribeye with truffle butter, and we closed with a banana pudding which was a big hit for everyone. My wife had the short ribs which is always a home run for her. Also had the creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes....all heavenly.. Finished with different desserts and Irish coffee's. I've been here a couple times and dine out in general often, so I will say that the food is excellent and I like the decor. However, this recent visit is what is making my rating lower. I was here with 9 people for my mom's bday, 4 of which were little kids, which I stated when I made the reservation (btw, you have to keep calling for a reservation for large parties because they do not check voicemails and cannot book big parties online). Anyway, we are here around 5pm for our reservation and this was the time they opened, so wasn't really crowded yet and my 2 year old niece was singing a nursery rhyme (note- not crying or anything!) and the alleged manager (woman in her 60s) walks by passively saying "umm other people are dining here too, need to be quiet" like are you kidding me lady? I never witnessed rude behavior like this from a restaurant manager or staffer in my life and I, myself, was a server for years while in college. It was just uncalled for especially when we easily spent $1000 on dinner, but 2 mins of a baby babbling a song warranted a nasty remark. If she were my employee, that would be her last shift. And if this restaurant wants to have a no kid policy, then enact one, otherwise be respectful of all your guests no matter their age. Our server and rest of the staff was lovely though. read more

The staff were polite, cordial, and eager to appease. I felt hurried. The food was good but nothing meriting a legitimate review. The place is small. Solid place to go for a date night. I had the price fix menu which did come with a good amount of options to choose from. I had the tomato soup and the skirt steak with asparagus. Both were very tasty. For dessert I had tiramisu which was kind of small but also good. I ordered the house margarita which was $10. That was small and filled with ice so I wouldn't get that again. What an amazing start to restaurant week! My boyfriend and I came on Sunday for dinner and had an amazing experience. I started with the mushroom shrimp risotto, it was cooked perfectly and very flavorful due to the truffle butter mixed in. My filet mignon was amazing, look at that bounce! It was juicy and perfect in every way. The thyme added great flavor and even the sides were cooked to perfection. The banana pudding and cappuccino were a perfect end to our meal. We ate at this restaurant a number of years ago, obviously pre-Covid. As we all know, dining out now a days is a bit of a challenge. All the rules are getting to me but a couple of really close friends wanted to go out to dinner with us. I suggested this restaurant and everyone was in. When we arrive out table for four is ready and waiting. First a little history. The restaurant is tucked away in a residential neighborhood. Apparently it was a brothel in its origin. When we were there years ago what stood out was portraits and paintings of naked or partially naked women. Seems they've tamed it to just scantily clad women. Apparently in its day politicians were regulars here. Ok enough. What about the food? Fabulous just fabulous. My buddy wants to have the château briand for two. Yes he wants me and him to have it. Ok, why not. My wife orders the Strip Steak and my friends wife had a shrimp dish. My wife loved hers. In fact she couldn't finish it so it came home with us for lunch the next day. My buddies wife's seafood, well she said it was good but that was it. Now the château briand. Just perfect. Came with roasted veggies. We agreed on medium temperature which was perfect. You've heard the expression " you could cut it with a butter knife ". Well that was exactly how this steak was. Yes it is a little pricey but we'll worth it. This was my first time here oddly. I've lived nearby for nearly 25 years and I can't believe I've never been, generally opting for a much closer steakhouse. This steakhouse certainly has a different vibe and is definitely more cozy. It also had a nice variety of dishes from which to choose. We were seated in one of the back rooms which had a faux fireplace and a lovely glass chandelier on the mantle piece. It was a chilly 66° back there but I did not mention because they were others in the room with us and perhaps I was the only one that was called. The rest of the restaurant seem to be a bit more temperate. Let me first start with the popovers. I love a good popover and a well-made popover is hard to find. So I was pleasantly surprised to be served popovers. While I prefer salted butter, the honey butter was very nice too. I ordered a fillet mignon, Sesame soy brussels sprouts and Parmesan fries. All were excellent and my steak was cooked absolutely perfectly. This is what I expect of course from a steakhouse, which is why I will always send the steak back if it's not cooked properly. Generally, I don't like to send food back to the kitchen. I do make an exception for steak at a steakhouse. So, my steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and this made me very happy. The meat was very flavorful and seasoned perfectly. The brussels sprouts and fries were nice. I've had better fries but I will not ding them because of the fries. Our waitress was great as were all the other staff at George Martin. I would love to know a little history about the restaurant, such as who George Martin was and if the house was a speakeasy at one time. There was a reference to speakeasy dishes on the menu but I couldn't find any history about this online. The decor is lovely with lots of tasteful nudes from the 20s I assume. This place takes a little effort to get to but it's worth the time. Like most gems the interior of this restaurant is beautiful and nicely laid out. Cozy and classy, you can choose this venue for a romantic outing, small birthday dinner, or night out with your friends or colleagues. If you're solo you can likely get a spot at the bar. The service was friendly and professional and the quality of the food was excellent. I only had room for my entree but there was so much on the menu that looked amazing. My mother took my family for dinner tonight at Strip Steak steakhouse, in Great River. She purchased a $100 e-gift card for my dad last Christmas, which she printed on her computer. When it came time to pay the bill, the waitress said her e- gift card did not have a code they needed. She asked to see the manager and Liz Malfa (the owner) came to speak with us. My mom explained with tears in her eyes, that she had bought the card for her husband last Christmas and we never got to use it because he suddenly became sick and passed in June. She didn't want to hear it and said without the code she couldn't accept it. My mom asked for the check and after much discussion, she said she would only take $50 off the check. When she didn't respond she said, "Well do you want it or not?" Ms. Malfa's said it with such an attitude that my 18 year old son wanted to know what was with her nasty attitude. My mom questioned her again, why if she could take off $50 , why couldn't she take off the $100 she had paid for the e-card? She just said she wouldn't! Long story short, she left a very sad, bad taste in my families mouths, plus she kept my mom's $50, from the $100 she paid for the gift card. On another note the pictures on the walls of the restaurant with all the naked woman are definitely pornography and definitely not artistic. Located off the beaten path, this venue is certainly worth visiting...must have been a bordello at one point but now a steakhouse with many interesting rooms. We were seated in a small room which was nice and private with 4 different size tables. We had a nice 4 top... Service was great and the food good. My only negative comment is that they are using Hot plates that continue to cook the steak after its brought our. Our Porterhouse for 2 started rare and in a matter of minutes was well done! Didnt appreciate that I had to deal with well done meat....Meat needs to be taken off the serving tray immediately upon arrival or well done is what you have to deal with...server should have given us another plate to put all the meat on. What I had rare was excellent... You should note that they tout the steak as Angus Beef...its not Prime but better Choice. Only the GM Strip Steak claims Prime! For what they charge the Porterhouse should be Prime Beef like comparable Steak Venues. Anywho, Drinks were good, mashed Potatoes and creamed spinich delish! Also popovers were fun. First time here tonight and it did not disappoint. Started with octopus special appetizer and it was delicious. We got the tomahawk for 2 special for dinner with creamed spinach, lobster Mac and cheese and crispy bacon and bleu cheese Brussel sprouts. The steak was massive and cooked to perfection. The sides were all exceptional. We had a lot of food leftover to take home. Too full to eat dessert so we got banana pudding and chocolate black out cake to go. Both were amazing.
