We love our Cavanaugh's! This place still hits. We went with the fam on a busy Sunday because it's 2 for 1 wings during football season. We ask for them to be extra crispy and they hit like they do every time. We also get them mild because the sauce is also that good. It doesn't need the heat. My moon burger was a work of art and after all those wing, I had to take most home. It's ok because my burger made for a great dinner. It's a real local spot with a bunch regulars there. It's a place where everyone knows your name and I hope it stays for many years to come. read more

First time visiting this local Irish pub. Immediately on entering, I knew the ambiance was something special. Every inch of the walls are covered in history, developing over years of service and customer loyalty. Service was great with a kind and attentive staff. The food was very good! I enjoyed the mini tacos appetizer. My entree, while more of a roast beef sandwich than a proper Philly Cheesesteak, was quite tasty. The big standout, however, was the incredible Bailey's Cheesecake for dessert. Super tasty, highly recommend! read more

Decided to try this tiny little pub after a recommendation. It's exactly as everyone states it is. It's a small hometown pub with years of memories in frames on the walls, 5 tables and a bar. Very "Cheers" like. We were told we can sit anywhere upon entering and a waitress came to our table within seconds asking for our drink order. Very attentive. Food came out quick and hot. This place is a staple in Bayport/Bluepoint. I have been coming here since my college days when I dating my wife and still here now with a family of 4. The owner Chris is one of the nicest guys I have meet. On certain nights he's here to Brett his customers and always remembers my name even if I haven't been here is a couple of months. The food is except and reasonably priced. I love coming here for their porterhouse specials and to catch the games. The service is great and the place has an old school Irish bar feel. They have great drink and food specials daily. This is one of my go to places for a great night out with the family and it's better than going to a chain restaurant. read more

I've passed Cavanaugh's for years but never went in until today. Bar's are not typically places I frequent but I would absolutely come back to this one. I visited around 1:30 on a Friday and there was a good amount of people both at the bar and seated at the tables but the vibe was relaxed and comfortable. There were about 10 tables in the back and about 5 in the front by the bar. The bar had about 10 seats and was a full service bar. The Friday lunch special "a Burger & Bud" was what I ordered. It was a burger on a bun served with raw onion, a pickle and French fries with either a pint of Bud or a pint of soda. The burger was juicy and cooked exactly as I ordered. The server was nice and everything came out quickly. They have specials for everyday of the week. The patrons are a mix of young, middle aged, and older so it's a place for everyone. read more

The atmosphere is great for a local pub. The food was good and seemed fresh. The three stars are because the bartender was rude. I'm sure he's been there awhile so maybe he just felt like embarrassing me would make him look important. When I asked for a particular condiment he said he would see if the kitchen could make it. I was surprised because it was something I would suspect came from a bottle not freshly made. So I replied "no I don't want them to have to go through the extra work to prepare it". The food was good enough on its own. He answered by loudly asking me "how do you think things are made and where do they come from?" I quietly ate my food and left. As long as he's behind the bar I won't be back and as I said I'm pretty sure he's been there awhile so, you win. read more

Service was fantastic! The food, ok. My friend and I ordered the exact same dinner and the results could not have been more different. My turkey BLT had inedible, dried burned bacon on it and if they put two slices of turkey on, its an exaggeration. To their credit, the waitress immediately brought over a plate of much better bacon which I replaced. But why did this have to happen? When I'm thinking about the person preparing my plate, I'm wondering if they would be willing to eat the thing they served me. My friend complained that there was too much turkey (not real turkey btw) and her bacon was abundant and cooked perfectly. I mean, really? Several weeks ago the service was just downright ODD. Our server was Caity B and we were thankful she wasn't there last night. I tried to ask for a fried egg on my BLT and you would have thought I asked her the most insane question in the world, rather than try to accommodate a simple request. There was more intangibly confusing behavior that made dinner just weird. We've really enjoyed dining here as we live locally and it's usually consistently good. I didn't feel that way the last two times. I hope it's just a fluke. read more

Awesome pub food in a great environment with phenomenal staff. We went tonight with our 2 kids, the specials are awesome. Our waitress couldn't be friendlier. The staff were all great! Great local pub. Bartenders are great, servers are usually nice local kids. The food choices are what you would expect at an Irish pub, but the wings are stand out (order dry rub and get the sauces on the side). They have great daily specials and the food feels homemade, just good comfort food. I often order steaks there, they are very reasonable. We went in for dinner on a Tuesday night and really enjoyed it. We brought our 2.5 year old so we were a little nervous when we walked in and smelled cigarette smoke. It was probably just coming from some of the guests bc I doubt they allow smoking. They took us to the back dining area and it was perfect. The staff was SUPER friendly. The owner stopped by to check in on us halfway through the meal which I always think is nice. We enjoyed the food- they give perfect portion sizes and reasonable prices. My husband had a massive steak which was the special for only about $20, he said it was delicious. We will definitely return. :) read more

Absolutely BEST fare here alongside the main rd. Cold beer on tap, delightful hard ciders. Hamburgers are cooked to temperature even though it takes a period of time. Order salads, appetizers and beers to pass the time. Food served piping hot, soups are delightful to the Irish palate. A must try en route to Long island east end. Or venturing back to nyc. Love Cav's.... It's an institution in the Blue Point community. The bartenders and servers are all very friendly, the owner Mr. Cavanaugh is very warm welcoming and attentive. The crowd is a mix of families and local bar patrons. A common place for the fire department volunteers to blow off some steam. They have tons of tvs for sports and OTB as well. I had the bacon cheeseburger Cavanaugh's platter and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The onion rings are really good as well. They always have specials for beer and wine and each night of the week has different specials and deals. I highly recommend checking it out if you haven't already. read more

See, I was born premature, I needed round the clock attention much like now and I had an au-pare (fancy word for a live in nanny) anyway, he worked at the time for the nearby Claire Rose, naturally he had and still has an infinity for Cavanaughs and why not?? I've seen pics of me as a young tyke with a bud light can and a green Cavs sign in the background more than once, so you could sorta say I was raised a bit here. I went today and realized that after every storm, I've gone to none other than Cavanaughs. What a great place to seek shelter though. Warm, inviting, and open! A dark, Irish, hometown feelin', sports pub with good grub. When I go here I stick to the basics, and the basics for me are their wings, and burgers. So the wings come out crispy every time, sitting in a bit of buffalo flavored oil nothing too spicy. The burger is cooked how you order it and is more than sufficient for the price, I dig the bun and the broil I the burger, I just don't believe lettuce and tomato should be an additional fee, however they do include onion and fries! Get the waffle fries (spicy or not, same difference) The French onion soup is good but it's always been too sweet... A darkened sugared broth that needs more onion, and maybe even more bread, but I still order it from time to time. Service is good and they show every football game on Sunday. Sunday is two for one wings and they have daily specials to follow suit. Check them out when yer in the mood for that good, local, hole-in-the-wall, hometown favorite. read more

First time stopping in based on a friend's recommendation. Place was hopping for a Tues night. Was told we might have 1/2 hr wait but a table opened up in the bar area and they seated us right away. Great family restaurant. Owner is awesome. BEWARE though the waitress Maura is the nastiest person I have ever encountered there. She is rude nasty and disrespectful to long time customers. My husband and I went to Cavanaugh's for the first time on a Wednesday at 7:45 pm. We were immediately greeted. We sat at the bar before being sat in the back of the restaurant. They had my favorite bee, pumpkin on tap and it was part of the happy hour special. We had heard Cavanaugh's has the best burgers. So everyone had burgers. They were think and cooked to perfect. We each ordered different fries, regular, sweet potato and waffle we couldn't decide which one we enjoyed more. Our waiter was funny and attentive. We look forward to going back. read more
