Nice bar, welcoming, food menu looked good but was too late to try. Tried a new type of Red Bull wasn't bad about the same as original. Would go back.

It's been a minute since I've written a review (okay maybe only a few weeks, but even so). For those interested, my abode location on this lengthy island has shifted from Nassau to Suffolk and so I find myself getting into new food spots and new...Shenanigans (did you see that coming?). This aptly-named little hole-in-the-wall spot was (takeout) dinner for my fiancée, her family, and yours truly about a week or so ago with pleasant results. Shenanigans definitely has that local feel. A kind of business that nobody outside of the area knows, but if you live around these parts, you've been here, had a meal here, or have some kind of story that involves here. I can't say I fall into any of these categories (yet) as the one meal we did have wasn't even in this divey yet welcoming location. I picked up the grub and got that combo of feelings from the booths and high top tables, little gaming screen machines, beer signs, and the whole bar (which takes up most of the space). While waiting, some Led Zeppelin and Hall & Oates played on the digital jukebox (good choices) and the employees were friendly and kept letting me know the food was almost ready (even though it took a little longer than we expected). Most of the customers seemed a little older, but I felt comfortable enough hanging out and could see myself stopping by for Happy Hour at some point down the line. Once the grub had been grabbed, I drove back to open our bounty and found some pretty tasty food. My build-your-own-burger with sautéed mushrooms and onions was solid and the interestingly-cut potato wedges were a perfect side (plus slaw and a pickle). My fiancée also enjoyed her burger and so did her parents. We shared some wings too which were put in a Jack Daniels BBQ sauce. Though they could've used an extra slather, the wings themselves were great. Not too shabby. Overall, I'll say my first experience of Shenanigans was honestly not filled with too much of that word. But hey, that's a good thing in some ways. Though I look forward to getting a chance to find myself in some...you know...here in the future. Glad to get a quality review back on the board at a nice little local spot in my new location.

We go here frequently, why? It's a nice cozy place to go to. They have been following covid guidelines and make sure you do too. Masks on, sanitizer on the tables, and signs everywhere. It's a small cozy bar and you won't be forgotten. They have different themed nights. Musingo is my personal favorites plus you get gifts too if you win!! Food is always good typical bar food- you can't go wrong. This time we tried their potato leek soup, pirogies, fried shrimp is always a go to, and flank steak with mashed potatoes and vegetables. You just can't go wrong. Always a favorite go to.

So this is a restaurant with a full bar, that accepts credit cards as payment and had it's own parking lot. As you enter you'll notice that they have outdoor seating with a canopy, although they don't allow for smoking. The Bar Area is located in the center of the room with a U-shape to it and the kitchen is located behind it, towards the rear of the building. They offer an ATM, 4 Arcade Games such as Cards and Slots, multiple TV's, TouchTunes, and they play QuickDraw here. Occasionally they'll have live music playing and Trivia Night. There's separate restrooms for men and women. They have a fairly large and diverse menu of food to select from, but the kitchen closes at 9pm. The unique feature to this place is it's wall that are full of hand drawn cartoonish portraits. This place has a fun vibe about it and is worth checking out.

Faraday's Of Smithtown

Faraday's Of Smithtown

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to check Faraday's out. Today was the day for lunch…read morewith my dad. As expected, it was a casual pub style spot with a bar and a small dining area in the back. For this Friday afternoon, it was quite busy. It was bustling with almost all the tables taken by the time we left. Our server was friendly and upbeat. She offered suggestions based on our preferences. We both ordered the same thing - burgers. They came out quickly. The burgers were big and yummy. They satisfied our craving perfectly.

If there's one restaurant in town I've tried to give a fair shot to over the years, it's Faraday's…read moreof Smithtown. I've been here on numerous occasions hoping that maybe this would finally be the visit where everything clicked. Unfortunately, it just hasn't happened. My experiences have been so-so, and more often than not they've been slightly disappointing. My biggest complaint has always been the food. My take has been it's been bland or uninspired. The French onion soup was just ok, and seemed like no effort putting this together. No provolone cheese option when I've ordered which is crazy. The Caesar salad tasted diluted, with lettuce that seemed waterlogged rather than crisp and fresh. Just overall underwhelming. The food is not necessarily terrible, but just mediocre and forgettable. Portion size is another problem. For what you're paying, the plates often feel surprisingly small. One example of this was the "Big C Burger," which was honestly a huge letdown. With a name like that you'd expect something substantial. Instead, the burger was tiny--maybe 4-5 ounces at most. At first glance you could barely even see the meat because the bun swallowed it. I ordered it medium and it came out completely overcooked, cooked to death really. The bun didn't help either--dense, dry, and overpowering the already small patty. The whole thing just felt poorly executed. Even the little details were off. I asked for olive oil on the side for a salad and what came out was clearly some generic vegetable oil. It felt like a lazy substitution, the kind of thing that makes you question how much care is going into the kitchen overall. To be fair, the one thing Faraday's consistently gets right is the atmosphere. The restaurant is has a cozy charming space with a warm pub feel. The indoor dining area although small has character and a comfortable vibe. The outdoor area is really nice too, and perfect for setting for a nice meal on a comfortable day. Service is good. I've not had any issues with any servers ever being inattentive. Occasionally some order mixups but quickly rectified. Unfortunately, that inviting setting hasn't translated to memorable meals. After several attempts over the years, Faraday's has remained one of those places that seems like it should be good--but for me, it just never quite hits.

The Villager - Pastrami sandwich

The Villager

Finally a date night with NO KIDS!!…read more As I've reviewed in the past, The Villager is a great place for parents who like good beer and good food but also have to bring their kids with them lol. However, if you can steal away for two hours, this is also a great date spot. The music was from my generation so I was confused why it was so loud? This was my first clue that I am officially old. But that is a me problem not them. We always order the wings (top 5 on the entire island) and the Gouda fries are unparalleled! My husband ordered the gyro. Bold move ordering a cultural dish from non Greeks. He said it was really good! I like that it came on a round instead of a pocket. It gave a quesadillas feel. His only suggestion was to put the siracha on the side since that's not a traditional gyro ingredient. On another bold move, I ordered the Ramen and added braised short ribs. Wow!! I don't know who they have cooking in the back making these authentic meals but this was some of the best Ramen I've ever had. The flavors were so good and the eggs was cooked to perfection (not too runny but not over cooked). Our waitress was very nice as well. It was busy but I never felt like we had to wait long for her attention. 10/10 as always! Reliable top quality with an ever changing beer menu.

We have dined at the Villager over the years and noticed a decline in the quality of the food. Beer…read moreis good but to charge $17.00 for a salad containing lettuce, tiny pieces of cucumber, grape tomato halves, a few corn nibbles, avocado and crushed tortilla chips is a lot. If you want meat its another $5.00. I wouldnt mind but its boring and Ive had better. I actually ordered the vegetarian burger but for the second time they didn't have it. If its not a choice, remove it. The staff are always great, lots of beer choices, so get it together LFRG!
