This place would get a 3.5, but I'm rounding down for reasons I will say in the review. I started off by seeing this place by searching for fish and chips. Seeing they had a Wednesday special, I decided to put off my adventure from Roslyn to Ronkonkoma from Monday to Wednesday. I also found a bunch of things I was interested in to pad my experience and make the drive worth it. The waitress came quickly, got our drink orders, took a few minutes, and we started our order. I started off by getting the Fire Island Fries, the Flanagan's Nachos minus Jalapenos and Chipotle Ranch, sub the chicken in, the Fish and Chips special with additional pay for French Onion Soup and Curry sauce, and my friend got the Penne Alla Vodka add chicken. I asked how the Mozzarella sticks were and she said they were very popular so I got those as well. We'll start with my addition. The mozzarella sticks are good. Fried properly, not raw, not burnt, you get I believe 9 in an order. I greatly enjoyed them, however I would never pay more than a buck for a small brick of cheese. They were great, but not that great. The nachos were very barebones, something getting them at full capacity wouldn't have done much for. The queso is gross, and put me off from eating too much. The avocado was a single, sliced avocado which is fine, but pretty hard to eat with chips. The chicken was a bit of an issue, not tasting great. The fire island fries were good, I enjoyed the flavor change, but I feel like some cheddar would have made them from "good" to "amazing". Adding cheddar to my leftovers later confirmed that. The french onion soup was the shiniest turd I've had the experience of eating. It is the best of the worst, in every way. The cheese tastes a bit off, the broth did't have much flavor or salt, the onions were sour, and overall it looks tremendous, proper quality, but tasted like I was eating expired progresso with some sour cheese melted over it. I love proper French Onion soup, but this was very difficult to force myself to eat. The penne alla vodka was fine, but they could have added more salt, it just felt a little bland. The chicken was hard and dry. It didn't work with the dish itself, it felt like eating two different things at once, neither of them tasting as good as they should. The fish and chips were the real star. The fish was as crunchy as you expect, the chips were proper chips. The curry was hot but delicious, everything was absolutely fantastic. If I was reviewing on the fish and chips alone, this place would absolutely get five dtars. But they need to work on the other areas of their menu, they're heavily dragging this place down. I also got the donut with ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. A donut from dunkin would have been better in my opinion, and you would save $10 assembling everything yourself. Finally, the service. It was very here and there. At first, we were getting checked up on often, but at the end, there was a good 20 minute stint where they wouldn't show up at our table and we had to flag them over to get our check. I'm not rating this against them, but I would have liked a little more observation. It was a one and done place, with excellent fish and chips this side of the pond. If I was closer, this would be a Wednesday night thing, but I'm too far to justify that. read more

Came here with my team for a dinner it was 10 of us! The service was amazing, from the hostess to the bartender our waitress and the busboys! Everyone was super friendly and helpful (because I ask a LOT of questions ) the atmosphere was laid back and relaxed, there was a guy singing amazing music they had a lobster roll special that two of the people in our party got and said it was delicious!! I got the fish and chips it was so big but so good!! Honestly everything everyone got said it was fabulous!!! We will be back certainly also the seasonal desserts were a warm cinnamon bun and fried brownie bites that were to die for!! Highly recommend if you are in the area to check it out!! Oh we also got appetizers that I forgot to take pictures but we got mozzarella sticks, big pretzel and spinach dip all again fabulous!! Skipping the formalities. I came here for one thing and one thing only, the fish and chips. These beer battered hunks of cod were meaty and the fish meat was nice and moist. The batter itself had a light crisp to it despite its hard fry look. I insist you get the curry sauce as well, it would have felt incomplete without it. As for the "chips", very underwhelming. They come served as wedges but they were pretty soggy out the gate and just had no flavor to them beside potato. Next time I would get their regular fries as there is a choice, so user error I suppose. I also did try their Clams Casino for fun. These are cheesy, clammy, tasty little morsels. Heavy on the little though. I get it's an appetizer but they were gone in under 2 minutes. That said, I will definitely come back for a plate of fish and proper chips next time and alternatively, try their stuffed clams. read more

There's always a little fun in writing a review of a place that is just about walking distance from your home (that you've lived in for years) in which you've passed hundreds of times but never actually eaten in...until now. Flanagan's Pub takes this title as my parents, my wife, and yours truly finally checked out this Hawkins Ave watering hole a couple of weeks ago with generally tasty results. Like I've said, I've known for years about what the front of Flanagan's looked like, but finally stepping inside gave me some different (but positive/cozy) vibes. The interior isn't anything spectacular, but the wood finishing, Irish notes, and setup emanated just what you're looking for to make you feel at home. I know there's some tables out front too (and in the back) which is a nice additional touch. What's also nice is the menu size as there's plenty to choose from between burgers, sandwiches, apps, entrees, salads, and Irish pub favorites. There were specials listed too which is always an extra positive, but we all went with items found on the regular menu starting with the Irish dream rolls. These were like little corned beef and cabbage meals fried up in egg roll form and though there were only four pieces (one for each of us) they were delicious, especially with the secret sauce on the side. For a main dish I got shepherds pie which came out piping hot and was quite large (I struggled to finish so that's a positive). My wife got the pretzel burger (the pretzel was the bun part) which I had a bite of and it was juicy/meaty enough though I really enjoyed her side of fries. They were uniquely thick and crispy. The parents each got different sandwiches which they said were tasty too. All that created some superb eating and high star quality, and though I could throw out a fiver, there were a couple of small things that keep from getting there. For one, I'll return to those Irish dream rolls and say that in general the price of those (and everything on the menu) felt perhaps a tick more than I/we would've liked to pay. Not saying the food was overpriced per se, but it just gets harder and harder these days to feel like you're truly getting a good deal on what you pay for. The other small snafu was even though our waiter and the staff seemed friendly enough, there was no drink menu for beers, and so the waiter said if you want something on tap let him know and he'd tell us what there was. So when I asked, he instead asked me what kind of beer do I want. I get that he was trying to help, but honestly I didn't know what I wanted! I really wanted to just hear the choices, but after his first comment I just said what types of Irish beer are there and it was Guinness or Killians. I ended on Guinness which was fine, but the interaction was a tad perturbing and I never did find out what else was on tap. Overall though, I'm not going to fault little things like that too far. Perhaps price can play a bigger part, but I'm still throwing out four stars for this Irish spot with the intention to most definitely return in the near future. The grub was great, space was nice, and staff was (mostly) solid which warrants coming back...maybe sooner than the three years it took me to get here in the first place! read more

My girls and I wanted to grab a quick bite before heading onto the Ronkonkoma LIRR and found this place to be a good option. Their food isn't bad for a bar or looking forward a last minute eat. Came in on a Wednesday because we knew the musical act. We sat in the bar area so there's no waitress service, but once we asked for a waitress anyway, they helped right away. Our drinks were served in a timely manner. Even though they sent over a diet soda instead of a regular soda, it was switched out right away. The other drinks we got were beer and cider, that tasted fresh. We ordered wings that came out really fast, we had one of those "wow that was quick" moments. The food was flavorful and the amount of fries they give you for a side is incredible! The music was at good volume when the live act was both off and on. I always saw that the place was packed whenever I passed by so we thought we'd give it a try. The place was empty at around 5pm on a Sunday. There was plenty of seating including bar top, tables and booths. We took a booth and were greeted immediately. When asked what we'd like to drink I asked if there was a beer menu and was told no, so then I asked what was on tap. I selected the Kona big wave, but I don't think that's what I got. The beer I got tasted like a flat bud light. I'm not one to complain though so I just drank it then did ask for another, in which case I got another different tasting beer that still didn't seem like the Kona but it wasn't flat that time around. For apps we got the wings with the bourbon glaze and the Irish egg rolls. The egg rolls were pretty good, but the 'chefs sauce' that went with it just didn't make sense to me - it was like a tangy bbq sauce, and that doesn't seem to pair nicely with corned beef and mashed potatoes in the egg roll. I ate them without the sauce. The wings had nice flavor, but my husband didn't think they were crispy enough. He's also a ranch guy and they only came with blue cheese so we had to ask for ranch on the side. For meals we got the French dip and a burger. The French dip was subpar, nothing to rave about. They also forgot the au jus sauce and we had to ask for that. The burger came with the wrong kind of cheese, I had asked for blue cheese and got American. The bun was also a little burnt which overpowered the taste of the rest of the burger. The meat was cooked to my liking though. I had paid extra for sweet potato fries which had potential and good flavor, but they were undercooked and very soggy. They did come with the maple sweet sauce though which is always enjoyable. Our waitress was friendly and nice and the place was clean. People started coming in after 6 so we must've just been early for the dinner crowd. Overall, it was a nice clean atmosphere and friendly staff but the food and drinks were just not enjoyable. read more

I ordered chicken fingers and fries and my fiancé ordered the rack of lamb. Disappointed that no bread and butter was brought out to our table. My meal was average - nothing special but my fiancé loved his rack of lamb. There were a few chunks of something in my dish and my fiancé took a bite of it - it was CLOVES OF GARLIC! That was gross!
