I have had the tuna over salad several times at this restaurant and it is always fresh. That being said, last night my husband and I ordered it and it was very fishy. This seems to be the place where all the retired men and construction workers in the area go on their lunch. Which would be fine if the bartender paid attention to other people besides them. Breakfast is available on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9AM until noon. Happy Hour is Monday through Friday until 7PM with some half priced specials for certain beers, wine, and drinks available. There are also some appetizers available for half price. Check with your server, the specials do change. The waitstaff service is very good and food is also very good. There are healthy options available which you do not always find at a bar. You can also ask for grilled chicken instead of fried chicken on most menu items. For the Sports Bar part, there are game specials available and televisions occupying the walls in the bar and dining room area. I have been a patron of this bar for many years, during their times of mismanagement I have given them benefit of doubt, but after my experience tonight, I feel their chances have been run dry. Nick, the "manager"/bartender, on more than one occasion, has been outwardly spoken on his disagreements on people of other colors bartending in the town of Patchogue, as well as their involvement in town fundraising. He has gotten over served and exposed druken opinions on the town, other bars, as well as people from other ethnicities than himself. I'm disappointed in the behavior as a whole from the village idiot Patchogue staff themselves today, especially as this has been an on going situation, I have observed over the past two years. I am saddened to say as a customer that has visited this establishment at least once a week, after this evening, I will no longer give my business here. read more

First of all, let me start by saying we always loved going to this restaurant. I don't know when and what changed, but we went there last week and we had to wait over an hour to get water!!! We cancelled our drink order and questioned when we could expect our food, the waitress apologized and we told her we had a concert to go to shortly. Well 15 minutes later our "food" arrived. My friend's soup was cold, my burger and fries were cold and inedible. I will not go back, it was a horrible experience. Came here for lunch with my boyfriend and my stepdad. We started with the stoopid sampler to share. It had wings, mini chicken tacos, mozzarella sticks, fried pickles and onion rings. Nice variety and everything was tasty. For my meal I had the ahi tuna wrap. It had ahi tuna, avocado, mixed greens, wasabi mayo & teriyaki drizzle. It was very good! I got sweet potato fries instead of regular fries. They were good. My boyfriend had the Bavarian burger. It was topped with sautéed onions and beer cheese. He said it was really good. He said it had so much cheese that he ended up having cheese fries. So much cheese is never a problem. My stepdad had the groovin Reuben sandwich. It had sliced corned beef, melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut & Russian dressing on toasted rye. He said it was good. He did however say that his fries were undercooked. Service was good. Went for brunch yesterday, in our quest to try something new. Had a delicious Ketel one Bloody Mary. Just the right amount of spice from the horseradish. I loved it. This was followed by a Belgium Waffle, perfectly done and chicken tenders ( a tad dry). Hubs had Idiot platter, bacon ( a bit under cooked for his liking but fine for me), 3 sausage links (he liked those a lot), sliced ham, eggs cooked the way he likes and pancakes. The platter also had home fries that he did not care for at all, said they tasted off. It was a huge plate of food and he was stuffed. I would definitely return, loved the homemade Bloody Mary and hubs would take a pass. To each their own. But it's my review so 4 stars it is! Just realized I never reviewed this place. It's one of my favorite spots to visit when looking for a casual night out with the kids. Always a great beer selection and their menu is enormous. They do everything well. Nothing stands out at all, certainly not a gourmet spot but their fare is definitely better than the average pub food. My favorite is the "Sweet Chicky" sandwich. Get the waffle fries, they're yummy. The staff is always accommodating if not always very well polished. Parking in Patchogue is always a nightmare but that comes with the territory so I'm not deducting stars for that. If you're going to bring the kids come early in the evening because it gets loud and a little rowdy sometimes at night. Overall, it's a nice place that lets me still feel like I'm going for an evening out at the bar and feel just fine letting the kids tag along. Just kind of a dumpy dive bar with lots of fried food and crazy sugary drinks as well as beer.

Good food, good staff , fun atmosphere... we often go there for there themed holiday breakfasts for the kids. I had a delicious turkey club with avocado. It could have had more meat. Just another update...took the kids for the water bunny breakfast.. great bloody Mary's and of course I had the California TBLT. It's Football Sunday & I wanted to order some food while watching the AFC & NFC Championship games. We looked and we came across The Village Idiot. There were so many good menu items that it was actually hard to finally decide what we wanted. We went with an order of traditional Buffalo wings. Those were very good, not any better or any worse than wings I've had from a pub style restaurant. We ordered the American Chicken Sandwich, which is chicken cutlet, bacon & American cheese. Super simple and super delicious and came with crinkle fires. I feel like crinkle fries are so underrated, you barely see them anywhere (maybe only White Castle?). We also ordered the Diablo Wrap, which had grilled chicken, rice, avocado, provolone, onions and chipotle sauce. This was also very good. The chipotle sauce had a nice kick. We called for delivery, and sometimes this can not make the food experience the best as it could be. A handful of times I've experience soggy bread or fries, but not with The Village Idiot. Had the sliced steak sandwich. Which had crispy onions on a hero. That's it, no cheese...was too plain. While the steak was okay, a bit of mozzarella would have made it so much better, and for $23 with some fries was not a value. Service was good. The restroom was an adventure...smelled bad and the urinal had something in it that could very well have been vomit. I went to wash my hands, and pushed the soap dispenser only to have it dispense up on my arm. Went to turn on the faucet and it wobbled around and produced no water. I am from New Jersey and have never had an issue with my ID; not to toot my horn but I am an attractive, 30 year old female. I was not intoxicated or anything of the sort., i was with a group of 5 girls looking to have fun (we are literally bringing you business) i was shocked when the bouncer didn't let me in, and had a nasty attitude that was uncalled for. The interaction was literally: Bouncer: "Show me your ID" Me: "ok, here ya go." Bouncer: "I don't feel comfortable letting you in, No." Me: Shocked...."...are you the owner?" Bouncer: "No" Me: "Well what is the reason i cant go in? I've been everywhere on this street and haven't had a problem". Bouncer: "I don't care, your'e not getting in. You are a liability." Me: "Ummm WHAT?!, i don't get it". Bouncer: Giving me a terrible attitude "i don't care, i don't have to explain myself to you, bye". I was MAD, why? Because I've never had this happen to me in my LIFE. I just wanted to know the reason out of curiosity. I was going to go back the next day to inquire, but why not just write a review? I try my best to avoid Patchogue because it's just not the greatest place since all of the changes, but if i'm in the area i'll always stop at the village idiot for a few beers and some of their great food. The Idiot is the one place in Patchogue that still feels like Patchogue. I would highly recommend trying the buffalo wings (best around) or the surf and turf special which is filet mignon and jumbo shrimp with mashed potatoes... now I know you're thinking it's a bar that can't be great, but I assure you it is. I had a basic cheeseburger yesterday for dinner and it was the only thing of substance I had all day besides a small bit of pasta with butter for lunch.... I now have food poisoning and one of the worst stomachaches I've ever had. The burger wasn't even that good I should've known the second I took the first bite. It wasn't undercooked or anything like that but it was a basic frozen patty like something you would get at a concert or stadium... Hi Yelper friends and welcome to Patchogue Village. I Used to live in Patchogue Village for many years. Stopping back, I loved experiencing the resurgence in the community. The entire town is so vibrant and alive. I was having lunch with my friend Ken who I have not seen in awhile. It was great to stop back to one of my old haunts,The Village Idiot Pub. Kenny really wanted to come here despite the many other options available to us in Patchogue Village. No worries Village Idiot is fine by me. We decided to sit at the bar as the place was pretty much empty, bar area showed some sign of life and I love eating at the bar. Our barmaid was prompt to greet and serve us. She was courteous and right on point. She made sure to tell us about the lunch specials which included soup or Salad. This sounded great to us. First up was a nice cold beer, as I had been hours on the road. Our beer's are nice and cold. Let the afternoon's festivities begin. First stop on our much-anticipated lunch was the cheesy, creamy, hot and wonderful French onion soup, it was our best choice here of the day. A few more people walked into the bar and it started to get a little busy, great don't want to have lunch in a ghost town. Our lunches came out quickly within 10 minutes. I Immediately noticed that my medium-rare Burger was cooked medium well, was a lesson to me sometimes you have to order your burger rare to get it medium rare. I guess that is the case here but the burger was hot and juicy anyway, no reason to send it back. Kenny is Italian through and through so he was really picky on the meatball parmesan, said it was average and not fantastic but certainly enjoyable and edible. Our french fries included with our lunches were the average standard bar shoestring fries, but they were certainly hot and crispy. Really hungry we inhaled our lunches rather quickly, the crisp cold Heineken beers complimented the sweltering hot 90-degree summer day today. No room for dessert it was so kind for our server to ask. Now certainly satisfied it was time for an enjoyable stroll around Saturday afternoon Patchogue Village. Ken and I enjoyed our Saturday lunch at The Village Idiot pub however they were a few small noticeable bumps. I was a bit disappointed having my burger overcooked, it was the Cornerstone of my lunch today. But no worries. The thing that kind of upset us was that our server did not mention the Village idiots save $10 ..Yelp Deal to us ?? She certainly knew that I was yelping as I mentioned it to her and was taking pictures of our food. Yelp deals are great and I need to take advantage of every one available. Came here on sunday early eve for dinner. I felt like yummy bar food. Crowd was very mixed. All ages and ethnicities. The bar are was fairly busy with a young rowdy crowd near the window. Ok. We got the disco fries, sampler, and meathead burger. Disco fries came in large portion but had a strange aftertaste like something was cooked in the oil before. The sampler was not very good. First off, there was literally a puddle of oil on the dish from the fried pickles. They were saturated. Paper-thin pickles. The wings i asked for extra crispy and came out sorta crispy. The buffalo sauce has black pepper in it, beware fellow pepper haters. Onion rings had way too much batter- it was like eating crispy mush. The mini tacos tasted like refried beans and looked like they came straight out of the freezer section of a grocery store. My husband thought the roll overpowered his burger. The food was good, but my food came out 15 minutes later than the other people I was with. All I ordered was a rare hamburger!! I also never got my soup and my friend never got her salad. The waiter was very rude and the manager was even worse. The waiter never checked on us and would have liked another drink. There are plenty of other restaurants on this block.
