When in search of a place that would make my family of picky eaters happy (ie: a vegan, a vegetarian, a traditionalist, and two that try to make the other three happy but like good food), WhiskeyNeat appeared like a gods-send on Yelp. I've been to Main Street Patchogue a few times before and I'm always amazed at how it's now like Huntington, with tons of eateries, bars and places to hear live music. It was a busy late Spring Friday night and my cousin told me if we were there just two weeks later (ie, post Memorial Day), there would have been lines to get in anywhere. So make resos! I made one easily earlier that day and when we arrived around 7:30, it was not packed, but it is pretty loud in there even half full. Our waiter, Jonathan, expertly took such great care of us from start to finish, even taking my father's dad jokes in stride. There's a solid cocktail menu, but I had a couple glasses of a better-than-decent prosecco. My cousin loved his espresso martini. For food, count on a couple respectable vegan entrees and I went with the Japanese eggplant with cashew ricotta. The eggplant is delicious, slightly sweet with a creamy rather than chewy (thank god) texture. The cashew ricotta is also tasty, but I do think it needed to be blended a bit more to remove the slightly grainy texture (the cashews might have needed more soaking). My father loved his French onion soup and pastrami sandwich. Separate paragraph for the fries. They deserve it. I'm glad we ordered these to share- it's an enormous platter of them. I appreciated that they were salted perfectly. I appreciate restaurants that can make satisfy a variety of preferences and dietary restrictions. On top of that, my damn car decided to up and die, so I've been bleeding money on Ubers just to get to and from work. I was starving--no breakfast, running on fumes--and since my job's in Patchogue, I figured I'd finally try them for lunch. First of all... happy hour on a Saturday from 12-6?! Uhhh hello?? In my Angelina from Jersey Shore voice. And if you pay cash, you get the discount. Say less. They've got a fabulous small plates menu. I started with the French onion soup--ooey gooey mozzarella, cheese pull was undefeated. Soup was delicious too. I haven't had French onion in ages and it really hit. Then I had the pulled pork slider, which was really good, but BABY... those short rib croquettes? To. Die. For. I also had to get my classic deviled eggs. A little heavy-handed on the paprika, but still solid. Drinks were half off, so of course I indulged. Started with an espresso martini because I needed something to jumpstart my day. Then I had a French martini because duh--I'm a French girl ‍. That one was good. Finished with my classic cosmo. Not gonna lie, I've had better, but it did what it needed to do and helped me forget my troubles for a couple hours. Also great playlist of music. I got there and they were playing Ska. Gift cards are great. The problem is sometimes you forgot you have them or just never carve out the time to use them, and honestly that might stop you from trying new spots like when my wife and I recently visited WhiskeyNeat after having received a gift card to this place...two years prior. Better late than never on using it to get this five star review written up! But seriously, I thought I knew downtown Patchogue pretty well, and yet I never noticed or heard anyone really going to WhiskeyNeat until that gift card was in her possession. When we went for dinner, it was a Wednesday night on the earlier side and at the time, no one was inside this relatively small yet cozy-ish bar/pub place. I thought perhaps things here aren't that great, but by the time we left, the inside was almost full, and my feelings were definitely wrong. This place is great! Now these Wednesday crowds could be due to the half price options they throw out there all day long. ANY drink at WhiskeyNeat is half off on hump day plus there are a handful of small plates that also follow this discounted direction. I'll say things might be a little pricier if you're not coming here in the middle of the week, but it's well worth making the trip to slash at least your drinks (and maybe some grub) in two. Enough about all that because the food, drinks, and service is where this place really shines. I downed two of their bourbon cocktails (Goldrush and Billionaire) both being outstanding in taste and quality (my wife enjoyed a well-made margarita). Food-wise, we sampled some hand cut fries (delicious), short rib croquettes (delectable), a mahi taco (fresh), pulled pork slider (tender), gochujang wings (zingy), and a twice baked potato (creamy). All these items were half price (reminder, they were small plates of grub so don't freak for how much we ate). We also paid full menu price to try a side of hot honey cauliflower which was fantastic as well. Before wrapping up, I do want to give a shout out to the staff or at least our waitress who was friendly, helpful in giving us drink options, and chatted with us a bit about WhiskeyNeat and other good nearby food spots. She guided us through the menu on what to order and even realized she had forgotten to put in one of our small plate orders without us asking. Good service always helps in reaching a full slew of Yelp stars. Overall, it may have taken almost two years to use the gift card to WhiskeyNeat, but I'm glad we finally did because dang was it a superb meal. Our waitress said "You'll be back" once we told her it was our first time and even before we had finished eating everything. I mean hard to disagree with that statement. Service was OK, a little slow at times but nothing warranting any major complaints. Of particular note is the 1/2 priced drinks during Happy Hour that is in place from 12-6 most days. You should be aware that the food specials during Happy Hour are not the same as the corresponding item on the full menu. The twice baked potato for example is exceedingly better off the main menu On our most recent visit we ordered off the full menu but took advantage of the drink specials as we arrived at 5:30. Walking around Patchogue on a brilliant fall day, we wandered into Whisky Neat and I can tell it would be our go to spot if we lived closer..or even close! Bartender is a true professional, mixing cocktails that are imaginative and delicious. Lee's Black Manhattan was superb, a mix of Rittenhouse Rye & Amaro Averna, just so different and delicious, served up. After a difficult time trying to decide, I went with the Corpse Reviver No. 2 which is a delightful mix of London Dry Gin, Lillet Blank, lemon, Cointreau & absinthe rinse. It tasted like a light, fine lemon drop. We had already eaten but the menus all looked like they were filled with great options. We will create an UYE here..possibly even for a weekend day soon. She was the only server and bartender, yet somehow made it all look easy. That said, it's surprising that the business would place so much responsibility on one person. I'm not sure who was in the back cooking everything, but I understand why it took some time. As for the food, their brunch special is quite unique, but since I'm not usually a fan of all-you-can-eat, I chose the à la carte option instead. It was endless small plates for brunch and then I could do ala carte drinks or endless mimosa/bellinis. And wasn't like the whole group had to do the same thing. All the small plates were amazing- I found myself ordering the same plate more than once. My 4yo ate 2.5 small plates of the French toast . This place has taken the top spot for happy hour featuring half priced drinks daily from 12-6 and alll day/night on Wednesday's. If that wasn't enough, their signature cocktails are delicious, and the tap list has a little of everything. Their food is also top tier. We have been sticking to apps mostly when we visit but I can tell you I have not been disappointed at one single thing. The sausage queso dip is a fan fave, along with the short rib twice baked potatoes. It's a chill spot with a nice atmosphere and equally nice staff tending the bar. Came here yesterday for a birthday dinner and it was a great night. I had a 6pm reservation and upon arriving I didn't realize there was a private event that was finishing up at 6pm. Waited outside a few minutes till the even was over and was greeted and seated immediately. My server was really nice and had great recommendations for what was good on the menu. For apps I went with pull pork sliders and wings and they were both amazing. For entrees I got the Japanese eggplant and my girlfriend got the best chicken on the block with a side of French fries. The food here is very good and they have a solid menu. I do wish the this place was bigger and the tables were separated from the bar. I didn't like how the food table are in the middle of the bar. Also the portion of food were a lil too small for the prices. 25 for just a filet chicken should def come over some type of rice or French fries. Restaurants are constantly coming and going in patchogue but this one caught my eye coming down Main Street. Got the chance to try it with friends recently and we enjoyed the experience. Small interior with booth/high top type tables, bar seating, and some regular tables in the middle. Came on a Thursday night and it was empty until around 10pm The 3 stars is for the run of the mill interior, decent service, and mediocre food. Granted I ordered the tuna steak (should've known better) as the steak and burger options probably would've been better suited for this place. I personally didn't have any whiskey, but the company I was with did and enjoyed it. Overall I wasn't overly impressed and the visit really didn't separate this place from the dozens of others on Main Street. This is for the Alive after five street fair in Patchogue. Came here last Thursday to check it out. Really nice to see everyone out and enjoying the Summer evening. Since the items for purchase is cash only, I had to find an ATM. While waiting for the ATM, the folks gave my furball a hot dog (thank you so much!). It was her first outing with crowds so she was overwhelmed by the number of people, scents, and noise. I got an order of ribs with cornbread for $25. It was a great way to start the fair. The hubby and I had a great night out last Wednesday which also happened to be half-priced drinks all day! While the bar was pretty crowded, we managed to find a cozy spot right near the front. I didn't read anything on this restaurant ( loved the name and glanced over menu. It was a lunch date-we wanted a place to talk ( I live in South Jersey). From the moment I tasted the appetizers this was THE spot. We had the duck nachos, and short beef ribs croquettes; OUTSTANDING. Main entree was just as delicious-kids to the chef. First of all, I wouldn't even put a star if i didn't have to; WORST SERVICE EVER!! For context: This was my birthday dinner, I've been here multiple times with friends, and have always had a pleasant experience... but not tonight. A group of 5 of us came in for dinner and drinks. When we finally get someone to come over and get some drinks, she was extremely rude, snippy, and she doesn't say her name; just "What do you guys want to drink?" Very unnecessary! When we finally got our drinks, she places them down and walks away; not "do you need anything", "any appetizers?" Nothing! So again, we wait and have to go back up to the bar to ask for our server to order our food. A completely different person comes over and has an attitude with us. We express to her our frustration and she argues back that we went to the bar. Meanwhile, 1 person from our group went to the bar because we were waiting so long for just a menu!? Worst service of my life, I will never go back to this place! I felt extremely uncomfortable and we didn't even order food! We just left due to the attitude of the "servers." Do better; there's no reason to treat people that way! We were looking forward to a nice dinner, but left very disappointed and it ruined my birthday dinner. Some of the best wings I've ever had! Definitely plenty to share and a great size for an app. The flavor on both the wings and the pulled pork were so delicious and flavorful. For our mains we got the eggplant and "the best chicken on the block" along with a side of fries to share. Both were soooo great, and it probably is the best chicken on the block! Seasoned perfectly, juicy, and very tender. But why aren't there sides? I'm all for adding sides to share, but this type of style didn't seem to fit this establishment to me. The eggplant was minimal in my opinion, it could have come with a little bit more to make it worth the price of a main dish for me. The chicken could have been served with some type of side as well. The fries were so tasty and the dipping sauce made it so worth it! The portion sizes definitely were there with good intentions, but the main courses is where they were lacking.
