I landed upon Greath South Bar last night after searching high and low online for a Tuesday night open mic on Long Island. Sign up was at 7:00pm and the mic started at 7:30. Now I've pervious performed at and attended over 100 open mics, at different bars, venues, houses etc, and believe me when I say this was one of my all-time favorite. All the musicians were super talented, the host was a pro's pro, and the audience were incredibly supportive & engaging. The space just felt warm, friendly and had a calm yet electric buzz the entire evening. Also, the bartender, Penny, really seemed to set the tone for the entire bar. She is extremely welcoming, witty and just an all-around positive person. You can tell she really enjoys her job and makes sure that her patrons are having a good time. I was sticking to non-alcoholic ginger beer all night and she only charged me $2 each, how kind is that?! All in all, a true gem of a bar with an open mic that I will 1,000% return to. read more

I stopped in here last night with my dad & brother. This is a nice little bar with a full bar and unique craft beers & lagers. Last night they had live music, some guy and a lady playing guitar, bass and singing groovy music. I sat at the bar and had plenty of people to talk to, lots of local yokels hang out in this establishment. The owner was the one serving drinks last night and made a tasty gin & tonic. This is easily my new favorite spot in town. It's small, quiet, has great service, awesome selection of craft beers, fantastic cocktails, amazing vibe, and I could go on and on... It's such a nice place to take a breath of fresh air away from the hustle & bustle that is Main St and what those bars offer. Great South Bar is the perfect place if you want a nice date night out or even to hang with some friends when you want to hear the conversation. Terrance and the other bartenders are serious about their mixology and the cocktail menu here is the best, bar none. These masterful drinks will run you a little bit at $13 each, but get here during happy hour and they're $2 off. Speaking of happy hour, they have half price beers of some reallyyyy great stuff. The other night, we got a couple Three's brews and the bill was under $10. Can you get there anywhere else? No. Also, dollar hot dawgs on the happy hour menu also. Depending upon your expectations, the bar could be considerd disappointing. There are limited beers on tap. I ordered a beer that I thought was on tap and it was out of a can. Cocktails are $13, this is Patchogue, not Manhattan by Times Square. Happy hour specials are $2 off a beer, not half priced similar to some other bars in the area. There is a limited selection of bar food available. They have a nice space, and there is good potential here. Hopefully I will be able to upgrade my review in the future. read more

Patchogue desperately needed great south bar. No frills cocktail bar with reliable beer and wine options, and cheap beer options also for those who just want a bud can. And super simple bar food! Their housemade hummus is great and really hits the spot. I recommend their margarita, it's perfect. Though everything I had was good. Great south bar is a perfect hangout spot, but it's small so it fills up quick. I went in on Friday at 7 and it filled up at 8:30. Still really enjoyable, it didn't get rowdy or anything. I admittedly had dodged this place for years which can now safely surface as a mistake but glad I got a safe recommend to try. It's because it was so dark inside (even during the Summer)! I've become a happy regular here who looks forward to seeing what the shenanigans are going down here. First, let me dust off my trumpet for some taps for the town's own beloved Hoptron. I feel that Great South Bar has taken in refugees from Hoptron and are doing the good deed of keeping options for Craft Beer alive. The curve ball is that the cocktails here are made at a city like precision and quality. I have skipped beers for cocktails here and have been fully satisfied. Constant rotation of taps and craft cans... Tap take overs as well! Interior decor here is fun with a mixture of sailor Jerry, copper ceiling tiles, a lot of wood, and a lot of plants. Staff as everyone has stated already is very pleasant, personable, and passionate in their craft. Food options vary a bit but I'm not coming here for a filet mignon-- I'm here to watch a campy movie, a beer, and some cheeseballs. Covid-19 details-- Was happy to build a 4 pack of beers pre-phase 2 and support this business. Phase 3- they put 2 tables that seat 4 out on the side walk and have strategic spacing inside. Staff is respectful with masks and order. Again, Terrence the owner here has made great efforts to follow protocols and rules with the state. Overall, I highly recommend this as a secret spot though I feel like the last few times I've been here it's been picking up. I do like that sometimes it can be quite quaint in here. It is off the town strip but it's definitely a great vibe for someone that doesn't need the assortment of dudes in black express polo shirts and khaki shorts and blasting EDM songs. The place is OK. A little disappointed since I went here on a Monday night - expecting to get some bar snacks and maybe a cocktail but they only had beers and no snacks. It's got your typical old town dive bar feel, which is fine and cute, but again more disappointed with the lack of snacks and drinks that I had thought would've been available. Maybe I'll swing by on a more happening time? But if the kitchen closes at a certain time or whatever - I'd like that info to be available somewhere. read more

I grew up just south of the bar in the village, this place brings the authentic south shore vibe like none other. Great beer, chill environment and James and Terrance are super chill guys. read more

Had a great time here a few weeks ago during the day and lastnight with friends for after dinner drinks. The aesthetic inside is really neat with tons of cool artwork and plants. They play old movies on the TV by the bar. It reminds me of a place you'd go to in Brooklyn or LES. I've only ever had the old fashioned there so can't speak to anything besides that, but the drinks are always great. Came in last night and got the last table available as it was very busy. The staff was concerned about reaching capacity and turned some people away, which was nice to see them being careful about covid still. Even though the bartender Terrance was swamped and clearly very busy he took great care of us all night. Before we left he even came to the table and took a free shot with us. Great South Bar is one of the newer bars that creates craft cocktails and small plates that's off the Patchogue strip. Sincerety and kindness goes a long way, this place employs wonderful caring people which attracts good customers here ,which makes the bars atmosphere one of a kind type of place. The establishment is ran by a few veteran bartenders who create seasonal drink and food menus. One thing you'll never have enough here is Fernett-Branca! make sure to ask them about it. They'll often have different wines, beers and spirits from cool breweries and wineries. They also have music on certain nights. The place is small but very cozy, it sort of has a West Village type of vibe to it. The bars decor and theme is based heavily on film and movies so there's always something interesting playing. The prices are fair and the bartenders are wonderful, there is plenty of street parking available as well. There are plenty of good bars in Patchogue, but if you're looking for a one of a kind bar that pours some craft cocktails where you can catch a movie this is your spot. read more

This is the type of place I've been looking for! A very chill vibe with knowledgeable staff. My husband and I came here for puppy bowl- wouldn't have known it existed except for an ad on Instagram. I'm glad we came in! Since Mondays are our night out, it's hard to find a place that's open. Luckily GSB is! My husband and I love this spot. We are Patchogue regulars and I have to say this is the kind of place we really needed. Every little hideaway bar we have turns into an overcrowded nightmare filled with frat boys. It's nice to step away from that have some great drinks in a chill bar.
