Seafood at its best. Service as if everyone had their own waiter, live music and over looking the water where the docked boats are. We did not have reservations, we took a chance and it worked out for us on a Friday night. Valet parking or self service. We ordered the oysters on half shell and a few mixed drinks. Live music and dancing on the dock. Definitely a good feeling establishment! Food was cooked perfectly interaction with the wait staff. All around good time!

Mixed review on this place. Wait staff young man wasn't very attentive or friendly. Food was average or below. Was clean and bright. 1st time here. Wasn't impressed.

A hidden gem! This place is tucked away in a channel in patchogue with great views of the water, boats, and sunsets. A great date night option! Service was quick and attentive, food came out fast, and food was quality and delicious The tuna was cooked perfectly, and the coconut jasmine rice was so tasty. The swordfish had great taste as well and cooked to perfection. Coconut shrimp app came with 3 shrimps, which may be too small if with a larger party. Would definitely go again to try some other options on the menu

Sea Bass was buttery melt in your mouth and full of flavor. Crispy skin.

The pre fix menu was good but the sea bass was better and not on pre fix menu. The 14 oz ny strip steak was on regular menu was juicy and cooked medium rare . Delicious ! Along with a bottle of Sauvignon blanc wine.delicious

    Best seaside food in town!

Always great food, great drinks, and great service-Thank You Seared scallops, halibut, and a burger- perfect!

Small $5 chips and the guacamole

I had went there today with 4 others. We ordered from their bar menu, and one of my friends ordered chips and guacamole. They gave a very very small amount of chips, so he had asked for extra chips. We were told that it would be a $5 charge for extra chips. We found that ridiculous, and it was. They barely got a handful of chips.. for $5, after receiving a very small amount in the first place. The thin crust pizza really wasn't great, a ridiculous amount of cheese with little to no flavor. It was personally my first time there, and most likely will not return back, especially given the fact they charge an extra $5 for chips and give a small handful. We spent collectively a total of $200 (two separate tabs). Below is my friends bill including the "open food" charge of $5 for chips.. almost feeling as if they just can charge whatever they'd like (not on the menu anywhere is the charge).

Was in Long Island for a work meeting and we found this place for a dinner. Very good food and view. Table was a little crowded with 7 of us but we appreciated the fact we were able to sit outside. We were seated right away without a wait and service was very good. They do valet parking only.

What a lovely restaurant! Two colleagues and I had a fantastic dinner here, the restaurant had all the holiday decor out and sits on the water. Not sure how long they've been here but it's clear they're very popular. We had a nice table by the back window with a little view of the boats and dock. We did some nice craft cocktails and coconut shrimp for an appetizer. Two of us ordered the lobster rigatoni and one of us the seafood Fra Diavolo. The portions are very hearty, and they do NOT skimp on the lobster! We saved room for the bread pudding (wow!) and glad we did. Service was great and super attentive. Love this place and if I'm ever back in the area would not hesitate for a round 2!

Ask the Community - The Oar Steak & Seafood Grille

Is it more business casual dress or just casual like polo and cargo shorts?

Casual... no dress requirements.. my husband was just wearing shorts and T-shirt and slippers. I was wearing summer dress and flat sandals.

Do they allow dogs? I noticed this place on being fido but want to make sure before I bring mine.

Yes, they allow dogs for outdoor dining :)

We started with some oysters, which were the freshest oysters I've ever had. The oyster menu had a good variety of sizes and salinities. The Manhattan clam chowder was SO GOOD. I normally don't approve of soup in the summer but this is a must try no matter what season it is. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share so we could try a little bit of everything. Sicilian calamari was cooked to perfection and perfectly tender. Loved that it was sautéed because it's a little lighter than fried, but I definitely want to try the fried calamari next time we come here. Seared ahi tuna was also some of the best I've ever had. I don't even like swordfish but the blackened swordfish special completely changed my mind. They have different specials every day and I don't think you can really go wrong with anything on the menu. The atmosphere is very laid back, and everyone was so friendly. It's family owned and operated, and you can tell they really care. There were lots of regulars, which says a lot. The prices are surprisingly reasonable for food this good. We'll definitely be coming back. Hands down the best oyster bar in Long Island.

All drinks standard or fancy come out cold and tasty to accompany that barside snack or full lunch/dinner meal. Servers don fun T-shirts with catchy sayings buzzing around smiling serving it up. Everytime I have dined here they have been very attentive, sometimes overly, but in good spirits just making sure you have everything you wanted and needed, on top of keeping things neat/clean. This outing was for my Mr's Birthday, so appetizer, entrées and dessert. We started with the Crab Spinach and Artichoke dip with chips as we waited for entrée selections. It was served up creamy in a bread bowl stuffed with crab, spinach and artichoke, super tasty and great start. The Mr ordered up the Crab Stuffed Lobster Tail with a bechamel sauce. Noted the flavors were good, but next time would order bechamel sauce on side so there was more control of it not overwhelming the fresh protein with every initial bite. Mentioned the Roasted Potatoes and Corn that accompanied it were nicely cooked and not overly seasoned. Personally opted to double down on the crab side of things and snagged myself one of their Crab cake sandwiches on a pretzel roll. With each bite you knew the crab cake was freshly made not a frozen premade puck. It easily smashed down quickly with each bite, with good fresh crab flavor, not just breadcrumbs, like you might experience elsewhere ;) Also noted their pretzel bun was soft, airy with good classic pretzel flavor without the hard/tough exterior crunch. Noting that in the past I have also ordered up their fresh Tuna Steak entrée which is also a delicious entrée option. Finished off the meal with a menu fan favorite Chocolate Lava Cake, as my Mr is always hoping for it to truly lava out. Will say Harbor Crab definitely has come the closest in sense of it sorta flowing out when cut into. I assured the birthday boy that he should know the texture, taste were indeed on point, even if it didn't fully lava out ;) All in all another great dining experience at this location as the quality of fresh seafood offerings, service, live music ambiance and atmosphere are on point. Totally understand why this has been a fan favorite for my Mr and others for years. Would highly recommend a visit to any seafood lover.

We didn't find anything special about it that would make us want to order it again. Also, no tentacles...just rings. For my entree I chose a boil. For my boil I had scallops, head off shrimp, and black mussels in the cajun claws blend medium spice. It also came with corn and baby potatoes. My boil did not have any spice at all. It was quite mild. I was disappointed in this as I was really looking for that spice. There was no oomph! My fiancé said his lobster spaghetti was flavorless; no taste in the sauce at all. His meal also came with shrimp and scallops. The scallops were not whole, they were split in half. For drinks, he ordered "Bikini" which was supposed to be served in a pouch, which it was not. I had "Tropical." Drinks had decent flavor. Our waitress was attentive. We did agree that we'd return but definitely order something else.

I was dining with my two children, my 11-year-old son and my 4-year-old daughter. During our meal, when our server approached to take drink orders, my four-year-old daughter specifically requested a "blue drink." The server noted this request and subsequently delivered a beverage matching the description. After my daughter had consumed a significant portion of the drink, she commented that it tasted funny. Out of an abundance of caution, I tasted the drink myself and was immediately alarmed to detect the distinct presence of alcohol. I promptly brought this critical issue to the attention of our server, explaining my grave concern that my four-year-old child had been inadvertently served an alcoholic beverage. To my dismay, the server initially dismissed my concerns, asserting that she had personally witnessed the bartender prepare the drink and that it contained no alcohol, further suggesting my daughter could continue consuming it. Given the unmistakable taste of alcohol, I reiterated my certainty and insisted that she re-verify with the bartender, even offering for her to smell the drink herself. It was only after this insistence that she consulted the bartender, who then confirmed that the beverage did indeed contain alcohol. The gravity of this situation rapidly escalated. Due to my daughter's consumption of alcohol and her subsequent physical discomfort, I was compelled to contact emergency services. Both paramedics and law enforcement officers responded to the scene. My daughter was then transported to the hospital, where medical professionals confirmed she was experiencing alcohol intoxication, described as being "tipsy." The incredulity expressed by the attending police officers regarding a four-year-old being in such a state underscored the profound negligence and potential danger of this incident. This experience has left me profoundly shaken and outraged. The fact that a child could be inadvertently served an alcoholic drink in a family restaurant is, in my view, an inexcusable breach of safety protocols and trust. This entire horrifying ordeal was entirely preventable with proper communication, attentiveness, and rigorous adherence to responsible service practices. I am now left with a deep sense of mistrust regarding the safety of beverages served to children, and I urge your establishment to conduct an immediate and thorough review of your procedures to ensure such a catastrophic oversight never occurs again.
