I've been to a few restaurants over here and so far this one was the best. we were seated promptly and you had a choice of sitting inside or on the outside deck. I ordered the New England clam chowder that was the best I had in a long time, plenty of clams and a creamy flavorful texture. I also ordered the fried flounder sandwich that was cooked perfectly crispy on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. wifey ordered the fried calamari plain, they also have it Mediterranean style and Cajun but she had the plain and said it was very good, crispy and tender.

Close to the ferry at Ocean Beach. Indoor and outdoor seating. Fast friendly service. The fish tacos were tasty. Grilled fish topped with mangoes and some other fruit, good salsa and guacamole. The burrito was not good. It was filled with some kind of rice pilaf with peas and carrots and grilled chicken. It looked good from the outside, but the inside was like the early bird special at the seniors center.

Food Calamari - 7/10 ok so it was crispy and tasty but we got Mediterranean which they said was garlic Parmesan but it simply was plain calamari with banana peppers, honestly would've rated higher but we found a hair in it at the end Chicken sandiwch 6/10 meh no sauce kinda dry Fries SO GOOD 10/10 Hamburger - 6/10 bun was good cheese was good and burger was juicy but wasn't medium rare like ordered and lacked flavored straight ground beef no seasoning Wait staff- so sweet and very attentive!! Fill up water quick too Drinks Spicy marg- 6/10 a little too spicy and could've been stronger - appearance was pretty basic Ambiance is rlly what made it good because it's quiet everything else was so loud and we honestly just had a good time

Run. Don't walk, to try whatever special The Albatross in Ocean Beach has to offer. My gf and I just had the pleasure of sitting with Jack at the bar. Between the food, the ambiance, and the attentive staff, we will be regulars from here on out. Can't wait to visit again!! (Remember, DONT SWING THE LIGHTS )

Great food for reasonable prices! Kids loved their food and ate all of it after a long and fun beach day. Best part is that for $10 for the kids their meals came with ice cream. Clam chowder was spot on, and fish tacos were fantastic!

    Disgusting. Honestly.

People probably love this place, I'm not one of them unfortunately. It takes a lot for me to be grossed out, a lot. I am willing to try anything food wise, if I don't like it, I'll check it off my list, no big deal. However the steamed clams we were served yesterday afternoon almost made me hurl, I've never been so disgusted by anything served to me in a restaurant. We were undecided about where to go for lunch, mostly because there really is not one solid, consistent, guaranteed always good restaurant in Fire Island. I had been to Albatross before years ago so when we saw shrimp cocktail on their specials board we decided this was the spot. It was around 1:30 in the afternoon on a Sunday and there were only two other tables occupied outside on their patio and some people enjoying Sunday Funday at the bar. Their patio is nice because you can people watch the town but you dont have a water view. It is also a nice spot to be at if you're waiting to catch the next Ferry as you're able to see the line start to form from right outside of the restaurant. They had a $10 shrimp cocktail special and a $15 steamed clams special. Our server was great, young girl who was attentive and friendly. We inquired about how many shrimp came with the shrimp cocktail and there were only 3 so we asked for 2 orders of shrimp cocktail, an order of steamed clams and I also added in a LARGE mixed greens salad. Large being capitalized with a purpose. The steamed clams came out and I wanted to hurl. They came out covered in dirty with the rubbery tails still attached. I do not have a queasy stomach, like I said earlier, I'll try anything but these were disgusting. Clearly being that they were a special, the people in the back weren't doing anything sanitary in regards to prep work. These clams were tossed in a bowl and served. I can't get the vision of the filthy rubber tails out of my mind. Shrimp cocktail came out shortly after. Three shrimp, nothing special about them, not bad, not great. Just standard shrimp with poop veins still in them, again, a special so no prep work done to make them more appealing for customers. Next came the larged mixed green salad, which was laughable. This was a side salad portion at best. I ate it in four bites. For $10, advertised as a large salad, it was definitely something I wish I hadn't ordered. Adding chicken or another protein would have jacked the price up to $18 and I'm telling you right now if that salad was brought to me with a 4 ounce portion of grilled chicken for $18 I would have said no way. The onion on top was slimy and past it's use by date. Sigh. We got two bud lights, two white claws, the only flavor they had was black cherry, two orders of shrimp cocktail, steamed clams and a mixed green salad. It was the fastest $86 I have ever spent and not worth the money at all. I would have much rather go to the deli next door and ordered sandwiches to bring with us on the ferry home for $20. I will skip this place next time, for sure.

Service was just OK, took a while to get our food and our appetizer was missed altogether and we got it after our entrees but the food was very yummy! The clam chowder alone was fantastic and then the fish tacos were awesome and had a great balance of flavor! Also don't skip the rocket fuel, it's a fire island staple and delicious if you love a good pina colada!

Our server appeared to be new, but she was incredibly patient, friendly, and genuinely trying her best. She handled every question with kindness, and I truly appreciated her attitude throughout the meal. The manager also made a great first impression by greeting us shortly after we were seated and even taking our drink order himself. At that point, I honestly thought we were in for a great experience. Unfortunately, things slowly began to unravel. A few items I ordered to accompany one of our pizzas didn't come out with the pizza itself, so by the time everything finally arrived, the pizza had gone cold. While frustrating, mistakes happen, and I didn't make an issue out of it. The bigger misunderstanding involved another pizza I ordered. I was trying to order a white Grandma pie after seeing a calzone listed with the option to make it on a Grandma crust. When it arrived, it had red sauce. The manager explained that the menu description included "Grandma sauce," which referred to red sauce. I hadn't realized that, and once he explained it, I understood where the misunderstanding came from. To his credit, he immediately offered to remake the pizza, which I appreciated. At that point, I considered the issue resolved. Unfortunately, the conversation didn't end there. While discussing the original pizza, the manager explained that it had ricotta cheese on it. My initial reaction was that I hadn't noticed any ricotta, but after he explained it, I acknowledged that perhaps I had simply missed it. From my perspective, the misunderstanding had been cleared up and the conversation was over. Instead, he looked at me and said: "Maybe you don't know the difference between mozzarella and ricotta cheese." That comment completely changed the experience. There is a big difference between explaining a menu item and making a personal remark toward a customer. By that point, I wasn't arguing. I wasn't asking for anything additional. I had already accepted the explanation and acknowledged that perhaps I had simply missed the ricotta. Rather than leaving it there, the conversation became increasingly confrontational. When I explained that I found the comment disrespectful, instead of trying to de-escalate the situation, the manager continued defending it by insisting that I had argued earlier. At that point, the discussion was no longer about the pizza... it had become an unnecessary debate with a customer who had already accepted the explanation. That was the moment we decided to leave. Mistakes happen. Orders get mixed up. Menu descriptions can create misunderstandings. None of those things determine whether I return to a restaurant. What determines that is how those situations are handled. A manager sets the tone for the entire restaurant. Their responsibility isn't just to resolve problems... it's to make guests feel heard, respected, and welcome, even when there's a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, that's where this experience fell apart. The food has always been good, which is why I've returned in the past. What I'll remember from this visit isn't the pizza or the misunderstanding over the menu. It's being spoken to in a way that felt dismissive and belittling after I had already accepted the explanation. Hospitality isn't measured by how a restaurant performs when everything goes perfectly. It's measured by how it treats people when something doesn't. Unfortunately, that's the lasting impression this visit left with me.
