I love the food at Drift. They have lots of seafood options but also other options for people who don't want seafood. Last night we had the oysters Rockefeller- delicious. I had the scallops with risotto and my boyfriend had the swordfish special- it came with bok choy. It had an Asian twist to it. Coconut curry sauce. So yummy. The vibes are always high at Drift. They have an outdoor bar where you can enjoy the band and sit by a fireplace or warmer when the sun goes down. Or you can choose to sit inside if you just want a more quiet dinner. This is a favorite summertime spot that serves good drinks and good food. Whether we decide on burgers or seafood, we are never disappointed. Our server Katelyn was friendly and attentive. Fantastic location. Ellen is an amazing waitress. made excellent recommendations and delivered excellent service. It was lovely to see boats on a bustling river. With the exception of the mussels, the seafood tower was excellent. The taste was off and they were really soft. Calamari didn't taste well either. Was trying to make a reservation for 22 people on a Tuesday in August. My wife's 60th birthday party. Called 3 times, each time I was told their manager would contact me. Took my information, etc. I told them no need for a special menu, that the open menu would be fine, let everyone order what they want, including the bar, as it's a big deal for our family to celebrate this. I had anticipated spending between 2000-2500, and leaving a sizable gratuity for the servers. Pretty bad that they wouldn't want our business on a Tuesday in August. The irony? As soon as I walked into Drift 82, I really wanted to love with this place for repeat visits. The restaurant has a cozy, beachy vibe that makes it the perfect spot with its stunning view of the Great South Bay. The service was impeccable--our waiter was friendly, and really made us feel taken care of. But, as much as I wanted to keep coming back, the food just didn't live up to the expectations that the beautiful setting and upscale prices would suggest. I had high hopes, but some of the skepticism after reading other reviews which was unfortunately spot on: the food here is incredibly underwhelming for the price. Appetizers: Clams Casino: For $18, I was expecting a little more than six tiny clams, each one was rubbery, overcooked, and lacked any of the depth of flavor. Cajun Seared Tuna: I love a good tuna, and this one came close to being a standout. The sear was fine, and the temperature was just shy of medium, but the wasabi and teriyaki drizzle felt lazy. I've had better. Entrees: Mahi Mahi: Broiled, not seared, it wasn't terrible. The fish was a little on the dry side, but the overall flavor was decent, especially with the grilled pineapple topping. Still, for what it cost, I expected a more flavorful and tender piece of fish. Halibut (Dinner Special): This was really disappointing. Halibut is such a beautiful fish, delicate and buttery, but what I was served was far from it. The fish was overcooked, and the accompanying risotto was undercooked--nothing like the creamy, perfectly al dente risotto you'd expect at a restaurant of this caliber. It was bland, dry, and sorely lacking in seasoning. I had to add so much salt and pepper. Two mixed drinks, two beers, the two entrees, and two Apps added up to well over $200 (with tip). You're paying for the ambiance here, which is undeniably great, but the food just doesn't justify the cost. Despite the beautiful setting and excellent service, I'm not sure I'd be returning. Unless bad night for the cooks? Drift 82 has potential, but for now, it's more of a "look but don't touch" kind of place for me. read more

Went there for lunch with some friends during the week, not really busy. I found the service to be a little off, kind of casual and not very attentive. I hate it when waitresses constantly walk by without glancing your way and that happened all the time we were there. Several people in our group ordered the calamari shrimp dish with bok Choi which they loved. Me, I got the lobster roll and was disappointed. I got a brioche roll, not toasted or grilled, just sitting there with a pile of ok lobster on top, not even into the bun and impossible to eat without a knife and fork. We booked a reservation well in advance for a party of 10. While we were seated promptly and served initial drinks, the service completely broke down after that. We waited an hour and a half, and our food never arrived. It felt as though our order was entirely forgotten. The staff never proactively communicated with us about the extreme delay. We had to go out of our way to chase them down just to get an update. Even then, they repeatedly assured us the food was "right on its way," but it never came. Based on the location and decor, I really wanted to like this place. It's close enough to become a regular place for us. Parking: The lot is small, but appropriately sized for the seating inside. Plus, the valet took care of everything. Service: We arrived about 10 minutes early for our reservation, but were seated right away. It's seemed busy, but not packed, so I can't say if this is the norm, but everything was prompt. Drink orders were taken and came out right away, food service throughout the meal was prompt, and drink refills were always offered. Appetizers: Raw oysters were good. Could use a better cocktail sauce and maybe offer some hot sauce, but I'm sure the latter was available, if I asked. The fried calamari was a mixed bag. The breading wasn't too crisp, but the calamari was also perfectly tender, not rubbery. The breading just had no flavor or seasoning. Not even a little salt over the calamari when it came out of the fryer. That was disappointing. Dinner: My wife ordered the petite filet medium. I know it's tough to get a perfect temperature right on a thick cut filet, but hers was mostly medium well to well done throughout. I ordered the mussels with white wine and garlic as my main. The broth tasted like ... skim milk would be the best way to put it. I couldn't taste garlic, butter, or wine. The mussels were perfectly cooked, but all I could taste was mussels in skim milk. We ordered several sides which, in hindsight, we should have known were family style sized, based on the prices. Four sides for two people turned out to be quite a bit. I guess the server wanted to be polite and not point that out in case we did want four family style sized sides for two people, but that's fine. It's on us, not them. The shoestring fires were crispy. The mashed potatoes were a touch dry, but my wife likes the consistency. The asparagus were a touch undercooked, as was the broccoli, but you did get a good amount for the price. The one constant in everything we ate was that there was little to no seasoning on anything. I'm not talking over seasoning everything to the point that you don't taste the food. I mean not even a pinch of salt on anything. I don't like a lot of salt. I tend to go very light when I cook myself. If I'm adding salt to something at a restaurant, it's definitely under-seasoned. Had it been just one item, we might've sent it back or just let it go. Being that it was everything, I think it's more about how all food here is being prepared. Overall: Like I said earlier, we REALLY wanted to like this place. It just didn't live up to expectations. To John (The Owner): I went back to your resturant last night to celebrate an incredible achievement by one of our close friends that completed her Pilot Instrument Rating flight test but it was completely soured by how we were treated. Michele had reserved the table for our party of 8 friends and she chose to go to Drift 82 to celebrate in-spite of our previous experience that I reviewed about in Yelp just a few weeks ago. Once again we had A.J. as our waiter and Cynthia the manager who recognized us for having a problem at our last visit that involved an un-edible steak served to me. At that time I wrote a review that we had an issue and the manager had resolved the problem promptly but I ignored to mention the hiccup we experienced. We went to your restaurant again to celebrate and after ordering our drinks and placing our order with A.J. It all went down hill from there. I was one of the people that Amo O. had just posted in Yelp of a factual review of the poor treatment we had experienced...once again. All the food was coming out at staggered times particularly the dinner plates came out staggered but only 7 of the 8 people got served their meal. As we were all patiently waiting for the 8th dish to come out for Michele, who picked Drift 82 and the person we were celebrating, she did not receive a dinner. After a long wait as we were all are waiting to eat with her, we realized they forgot her dinner so we flagged down Cynthia to fix. Once again she apologized and went into the kitchen to find the missing dinner and came out of the kitchen and served Michele her dinner. After a long wait she cuts into the Salmon that was served on a salad, the fish was raw and un-edible which was then returned to the kitchen and never to come back out. As we all began eating most of the Halibut plates were overcooked, the Chilean Sea Bass was under cooked and once again the apologies to us were plentiful. Although we were offered free deserts and not charged for the dinner she never received, we left disgusted and angry after ruining our celebration. After two bad experiences in a row it has become obvious you have a systemic problem with overwhelmed staffing. The ball was completely dropped from the Chef's, wait staff, food servers and Cynthia for not responding to a forgotten meal and poor coordination. Sadly our group of friends who dine out together frequently, we have concluded that we won't be returning after this experience. This is a shame because the water view, music and boat docking were the only positive experiences we enjoyed but with poor service, long waits, mediocre food and high prices it is hard to justify spending money there. John, as a business owner that 4 of our party of 8 are, we hope you recognize the staffing shortage, overcrowding and quality control issues you have. Our waitress, Jackie was amazing. She explained the dishes very well. She was also knowledgeable about their wine list which I appreciate. The food was delicious - I love lobster but don't like to work to get it out of the shell. The entree lobster was served out of the shell and it was divine. Ambiance was unmatched as you might be able to see from my pictures. Additionally amenities worth mentioning: heated lamps for outdoor dining, live music on Sat night (when I was there) and valet parking. What else can a girl ask for? read more

I stopped in on a Tuesday night, and there was live music and a crowd. There was a short wait to eat outside, and although the service was super friendly, it was a bit slow. I enjoyed my big bowl of lobster mac and cheese, and my mocktail was refreshing. Dined here this past weekend and was lucky enough to get a reservation as there was a three hour wait. We've never been here before but loved the ambiance upon arriving. There was a live band (who were great) and everyone was enjoying the outdoor bar, tables with fire pits and outdoor seating. My husband had the oysters and we shared the fried calamari appetizer. Both were extremely fresh and enjoyable. Unfortunately, they were only able to offer penne a la vodka for lunch and not dinner, which I hoped to have. It was a bummer but I couldn't change it so I opted for the steak tidbits appetizer as my entree. It was actually extremely delicious and the marinade was perfect. More than enough for just myself. My side of asparagus, though, was horrible. It was smothered in garlic so I wasn't able to finish it. My husband has the pan seared scallops over asparagus and risotto to which he said were very good. The dessert options were pretty average but we opted for ice cream elsewhere. Completely under staffed and the manager in control literally sucks. In a very condescending way, she acts like she cares and she doesn't give a s***. It was so clear she's like, oh, we'll give you a dessert for free. That was absolutely so unprofessional we weren't looking for anything for free.We were looking for decent food.The food was horrible.The service was horrible, and the bottom line is the management sucks. We came here for a cute date night to be on the water. We weren't expecting it to be phenomenal but it wasn't bad. It was just mediocre. Our server was weird & so was the rest of the staff but we just ate & enjoyed the atmosphere & drinks. It definitely gets rowdy & loud & packed so be prepared. If you're looking for a quiet night out, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for somewhere to go, have a few drinks with friends or whoever and just chill this is a good place. This is such a polarizing review. On one hand, you cannot beat the vibes at Drift. Live music, swaying palms, boats coming in, the fact I can ride my bike there and if I don't, there's a sweet young man to park my car so very politely....my gosh it's fab! Like when you're really ready for summer and it's a beautiful night and the drinks are flowing - yep, it is. When it comes down to it though, the food is sub-par, as is the service. Food only? Not worth it one bit. Once seated, it took nearly 20 minutes (timed...sorry ‍) to put in a drink order. We reviewed the menu that is the exact same menu it's been for at least five years, maybe more; and asked for specials. Server had to go check. Then go check again because she forgot to check the first time. We settled on the halibut special and the mahi from the menu. Folks, the jig is up...we are just broiling fish and using up all the peppers and onions on site and chopping them in different ways to accompany said fish. A mango salsa versus a pineapple chutney? - yeahhh we throw different chopped fruit into that pepper onion mix. That's all. Both fish dishes were DYING for flavor - I dang near sucked my lemon dry, and honestly for nearly $40 a pop, I'd like the chef to make an intelligent, comprehensive pairing with a side and not just slice some bell peppers in different ways and pretend to be serving a $40 dollar meal. Please do better. I love your spot. The menu needs a refresh, your service needs and smile, and the food needs to be upgraded from something I can throw together in my kitchen. I want to give Drift 82 my business, I really do. But it feels like they don't really care if they get it or not and that feels yucky. Get the hint that it is summer on Long Island and crappy food in a great locale is a dime a dozen. Drift needs to not be so comfy with expensive mediocrity and elevate the menu and the service to meet its price point. Started off my journey at Drift 82 by ordering their Marinated Steak Tibits. Tastes just as it sounds, PHENOMENAL. Thinly cut strips of steak with crumbles of bleu cheese on top, simply divine! The Ozu that the steak is marinating in is what makes this dish so remarkable. Beautifully medium rare cooked steak, you can't beat that with a few beers and a beautiful view of the waterfront. Then I ordered some Buffalo wings, crispy and delicious. Needed more sauce but still hit the spot. For our mains we ordered the steak sandwich. Probably the best steak sandwich I had in a long time. Juicy, Smokey and tender steak meets with a sesame seed bun with fried onion straws. The juice of the steak mixed with the ozu worked perfectly with the bread just soaking in the flavor. My boyfriend and I have been wanting to come here for a few months. We finally made it here for our weekly date night! From start to finish it was amazing. Atmosphere, food, service, all 5 stars. We decided to sit outside by the water. The view was nice and relaxing. We started with fried calamari and lobster bisque. The fried calamari was delicious. Lightly fried and tender. It was served with a garlic aioli and marinara sauce. Both paired with the calamari well. The lobster bisque was great as well. It wasn't as thick as other lobster bisques, but still delicious. It also wasn't heavy in sherry flavor. The seafood tower was amazing!!! It consisted of mussels, clams, oysters, shrimp and lobster! So delicious and fresh! Perfect amount of everything for 2 people to share. Service was great. I don't remember our waitress' name, but she was very attentive. Toward the end of our meal I had asked for wet naps. She came back to the table saying they ran out, but she brought me a damp napkin instead. Talk about being thoughtful! For everything and 3 beers it came to $125. That's very reasonable for everything that we ordered. We already decided we are coming back to try other things of the menu! read more
