Slow nights are the truth serum of a restaurant. When it's slammed, decent places can hide behind chaos. On a quiet night, there's nowhere to hide. On this occasion the staff really used the bandwidth to elevate our experience. We came here for the first time just before closing on a slow night en route to the East End, and i can tell you that this typically bustling place (judging from other reviews) delighted across the board. There is obviously a strong management culture here that expects excellence at all times. Food is fantastic - all the Italian American standards are represented here. Chicken francese and pasta with vodka sauce were off-the-hook. Portions are of the "roll you out the door" size, so the experience continued to lunch the following day. The restaurant is situated right in the bay, so it's a lovely setting as well - even in January. I enjoyed the service most of all. It was extremely tight and not rushed despite the fact that we were the last table. Great dinner last night. They took us early and the restaurant was fairly quiet. We always love the bread basket they bring out mixed with regular and garlic. Olive oil is delicious too!! Fried calamari was fine. It could have been more well-done. My husband said the sauce was spicy but did not come off that way to me. My husband very much enjoyed her dish as did my daughter with her penne. I normally am not a crazy fan of their penne but it was actually delicious. Huge portion sizes and a lot to take home. Not for mother's day brunch. I usually don't review but went to Mother's Day brunch last year and it was great! This year they charged more & it was horrible! They cut the raw bar -only had shrimp &!this year they were lazy & left the shells on (gross to even look at) and some were not even cleaned!!! REALLY overpriced, esp considering the average quality of the food. Pl don't get be wrong - none of the food is bad ! It's just not great, or sublime, but the prices here are basically twice what they would be at a comparable place serving the same food. They are basically charging a 100% premium for the view. If it's worth it to pay double for the view, then by all means - go for it! The entree sizes are also family size (very large) portions, but even so, for the quality of food / ingredients, it does not justify the price. Bright spot - full bar, & the drinks are all reasonably priced, unlike the food. It's also cavernous inside. Good for a wedding I guess, or something like that, but not really an intimate vibe. I loved the ambience, beautiful place. The appetizers were very hood- had clams casino, and mozzarella toast which were little on the greasy side though, I wouldn't recommend those. It was my 60th B'day and the menu had many good items, steak, pasta , fish. Etc. But they did not have Alfredo sauce on any of the items. Which is my favorite! I went here for lunch on a Monday. The place was pretty empty so we went in right away. The place was super cute. Right by the water. Food was good. I ordered from the pre-fixe menu. I ordered stuffed shrimp with crab & spinach. My friend had an amazing beet salad with shrimp. The only thing was that my apple pie should have been warm with the ice cream. The Waiter did offer to warm it after I started to eat it but I declined. I had a good experience and would definitely go back to experience sitting outside. read more

I cherish eggplant parmigiana and a picturesque view of the Great South Bay. On May 17, 2024; I experienced both in Lombardi's on the Bay with my family. It was with my dad that I have experienced their original Italian restaurant and pizzaria on Main Street, Holbrook several times going back to the 1990s. This location builds on the Mama Lombardi's legacy. It was our familiarity that had brought us to their far newer and scenic outpost on the Great South Bay.     Lombardi's on the Bay is located south of the Patchogue Business District at the southernmost point of South Ocean Avenue where the Village of Patchogue merges with the Great South Bay.    We parked across the street at Shore Front Park, where the majority of the parking is. It is here where the waterfront ambiance begins. Walking towards the restaurant, the building looks like an inn with a spacious patio overlooking the Great South Bay. The Hostess led us through the indoor seating area and past the bar to the patio, where the waterside ambiance featuring the Great South Bay and clouds spread out to Fire Island provided the perfect backdrop. If the weather had been unpleasant, we would of sat in the dining room which has an inn vibe.    Mama Lombardi's is renoun for their Italian food. Off their lunch menu, I ordered eggplant parmigiana with penne. It costs $22. Prior to the meal, we enjoyed complimentary hot bread. My taste buds has never encountered eggplant parmigiana that it disliked. The eggplant parmigiana was delicious. It should be because Mama Lombardi's has been serving it for decades. For a lunch portion, it was filling. However, my suggestion for improvement is to serve it with spaghetti instead of penne. This is my first time that I recall having epplant parmigiana with penne instead of spaghetti. To be truthful, the dish is far better with spaghetti. No need to rate the Coke that I drank with it. However, there is a need to share that there are zero complimentary refills. For dessert, I had coffee ($4 and complimentary refills) with Mama's New York cheesecake ($12). This was a solid cheesecake minus the bells and whistles of a restaurant such as Cheesecake Factory. It was the ambiance of the Great South Bay that added to the dessert because we got to spend more time overlooking the Great South Bay.     Their brand new server Denise was personable. She told us of her past restaurant experience in Oyster Bay. Engaging in friendly conversation, she encouraged my dad and stepmother to check out Shelter Island.    It was enjoyable to spend a nice afternoon waterside dining in a renoun Long Island family-owned restaurant enjoying great food with my family while being treated like a welcome customer instead of a number. 10/4/23 A beautiful evening in early October. My sister and her husband invited us to join them for dinner at Lombardi's on the Bay. We started with a few appetizers. One of the special appetizers this evening was stuffed zucchini blossoms, we ordered them and the fried calamari, some baked clams oreganata and a seared tuna appetizer that was served rare and studded with sesame seeds, All of the appetizers were served very nicely.For entrees my sister and brother-in-law opted for the linguini with white clam sauce and hubby chose the penne with meat sauce and a side of meatballs. I had to try their whole Bronzino , and I have to say they did a fabulous job with that. Everyone enjoyed their food. Our server Effie did a fantastic job and we enjoyed taking several sunset pictures after we ordered the appetizers. The views are beautiful and the ambience is very, very nice. read more

Yikes. Despite a beautiful space and being right on the water, Lombardi's needs vast improvements in service and food. Our 11 top table took 3 hours. We came on a Friday night and some staff claimed they were busy for several graduations. However, the restaurant was not packed and if they knew they would be busier than usual, why not have extra servers on hand? To start, the restaurant has 3 women's restroom stalls for an entire huge restaurant with over 300+ seating (according to staff). And pink soap in the bathroom? Penny pinching at its finest. Our waiter, Tyree, was great, and was the shining light in an otherwise abysmal dining experience. Although he had not been serving this location for long, it was clear he is a true professional server and honestly his skills are way above this dump. Other than Tyree, service was terrible. They have some servers just for water - so why weren't they pouring it? I had to go to the bar several times for water. It was about 85° out... why so stingy on water? Some of the food was good! Grilled octopus was delicious, bright, and lemony. Tomato salad was great, very fresh tomatoes. However, for entrees, the food was ok at best, for most of us, it was bad. Many at our table got the veal parm - a classic and staple Italian dish. It was SO salty. Everyone complained. Why was it so salty? I got bow tie pasta w/ crab. My sauce was watery... a very weird consistency. Seemed like they dumped Ragu on it. Pretty bad. We were visiting Long Island for a wedding and I know this is not the best Italian or seafood it has to offer. I would highly suggest Lombardi's take a good look at how it trains its staff, as it clearly needs a huge overhaul. read more

Came here for my birthday with 6 others and had a great time! We arrived on a Thursday night with a reservation, but it didn't seem like we needed one because the room was pretty empty. We sat outside for the sunset, and were the only ones outdoors. Really wished there were outdoor heaters and/or MUSIC! It was sometimes silent and awkward when we started eating, etc. All of the food was delicious. No complaints! Although we were the ones made aware of any allergies, they were very careful with everything. Would definitely love to come back mid-summer to see how the vibe is. read more

During our most recent visit to Lombardi's, we not only enjoyed a beautiful sunset, but amazing food! The seafood is fresh and their sauce has always been the BEST. But on this visit, I was blown away by the teamwork displayed by the staff. Even though it was a busy night, our server and his colleagues worked seamlessly together to ensure every table was well taken care of. The host greeted us immediately, and we were seated at the front with a terrific view. Crisp white tablecloths, and napkins were on every table. From initial contact to arrange lunch, their ability to remain flexible on head count until literally 30 minutes prior to our arrival, the beautiful room and excellent service and food, they were perfect. Had a phenomenal experience here with a large group the day after Christmas. They were able to seat several people with no issue (we did reserve the table in advance). The service was pretty good - water was generally taken care of - there was a little bit of a wait to sit everyone so we occupied the bar area of a little bit but it wasn't too long of a wait. Took a minute to have someone take our orders but once they were around it came out quick. Even though this location does beg for a summer time visit - the decor for Christmas is super cute and lovely! We ordered apps for the table - which were all really lovely but I'd probably skip the apps unless you're super hungry. There is a complimentary bread plate they give and the apps were a wee bit pricey for the amount of food you're getting (we split about 4/5 different apps - calamari, salmon with a crust, lamb chops and baked clams - if there was a fifth i can't remember it lol). Now the entrees - a sight to behold! Massive amounts of food for fairly reasonable pricing - 35$ for a lobster in angel hair dish that I had to doggy bag home and was still able to eat 2 more bowls of after! And they did NOT skip on that lobster! And speaking of not skimping - everyone at the table had at least three drinks - a variation of beers/wines/ and cocktails. And those cocktails were nice and strong! The damage was a little north of 600 that included tip which means it was about 110-120 per person. Which to me - given the amount of food and alcohol we ate - is a bargain. Really loved it here and would definitely visit again for sure! read more

2 hours and still waiting for our entree. 45 minutes ago we were told the entrees were coming right out.... Still nothing. I think we are done.... This is the worst dining experience I have had in my entire life. I asked to speak to the manager and was told that he left already. They told me the owner was in the back but he has not come out. As I was about to leave the food came out after 2 hours of waiting. Still no word from the owner or manager. Took my family for the Wife's birthday 2 Adult children and their spouses My wife and the 7yr old 6 adults and one child .. We book the 1pm slot. Now The food had to be sitting there since the 10am seating. The French Toast was a sponge of grease. It was not edible, the beef at the carving table was raw and gummy and chewy, the chicken fingers were so dry that the 7yr old couldn't eat it. The French fries were soggy and cold. The dessert bar was the cheapest set up I have ever experienced.. pieces of cake shoved in plastic cups the whipped cream was old. The plus was the raw bar and the omelette station oh and the antipasto station!! The included unlimited champagne and mimosas was never refilled for us at the table and my wife asked for a Bellini because orange juice doesn't sit well and they wouldn't accommodate her request!! Needless to say $400 later. It was the worst meal ever experience. Should have went to the diner!! The view is epic but not for that price !! read more

What a amazing spot me and my husband came in tonight for the first time and had the privilege of having Chris as our server who went above and beyond for us the entire meal the food was absolutely delicious Chris recommended the fried zucchini of the special,boy was he spot on they great highly recommend!!! The restaurant is gorgeous, the food magnificent but the service is beyond compare. We took my 96 year old mother-in-law there for lunch, she had the mussels marinara which she loved. After lunch my husband asked Steven our waiter for a water bowl to wash her hands. Steven bought out 2 lemon halves and a warm wet towel and a warm dry towel and proceeded to gently wash and dry her hands. It was so touching it brought tears to our eyes. We will never forget the kindness he showed. I wish I could give more than 5 stars! read more

Highly esteemed restaurant, so I went to enjoy some pasta with my boss...the second we sat down, the environment was just extremely chaotic. To be a bartender is not just to serve and make drinks, but also to tend to the bar. The minute our bartender, Donovan, came over, he was very dismissive and short with us. It took forever even to get the menus given to us. There were about 4 people behind the bar, and a glass literally almost broke in our faces because there were maybe 3 hands reaching over each other at once. And it wasn't a tiny bar space either. None of that needed to occur for one, nor did it need to be taking place literally in our faces while we are trying to enjoy our drinks and get our food. I am not usually one to complain, but Donovan was running around like a chicken with its head cut off when another server/bartender, who was actually being intentional with what he was doing, asked us if we had placed an order, and tried to allow us to say that, he was being cut off and spoken over by Donovan multiple times. That was something I did not respect in any way. Being slow and intentional not only reflects in your drinks but in your tips as well. Managing the space of the bar is also important because everyone is affected by the energy in a room and the environment. Spoke to a manager about my opinions on the situation, especially as someone who is a bartender and understands the high stress behind the counter especially in a busy environment, and then got told "well he's my head bartender"...so why ask me to tell you what's going on then if you're just going to justify the situation with no rectification? If I weren't as hungry as I was, I would've walked right out. I will not be returning. For it being "slow season," that was one of the most hectic and uncontrolled bar environments I have ever been in. I will not be returning to this establishment. Oh, and to make matters worse, we had a ridiculous bill because Donovan failed to inform us about an upcharge from the happy hour menu for one of our drinks.
